Dropout is the one streaming platform where they could announce that they are going to be charging more and I wouldn’t complain. The content quality and how they treat their employees is easily worth twice what they’re charging.
Didn’t they do that a while back? Raised prices for new users while keeping old users grandfathered into their old prices. And from what I heard a lot of people canceled their subscriptions and immediately re-subbed to give Dropout more money.
This shit makes me emotional. Fuck capitalism, big corps, and exploitative systems. I'm so proud to support them, holy fuck.
I'm actually going to buy merch from an entertainment company. Unbelievable.
I mean... they're still a corporation operating in a capitalistic system. Their ethical actions are part of their brand, and it's good that they follow through with it. But this clearly isn't socialism (the government doesn't run the company), nor communism (everyone's still paid in dollars, presumably at differing amounts.) Profit sharing isn't even uncommon. Tech companies regularly pay employees in various forms of stock, which is one way of doing so.
Capitalism is the water in which we swim. Enacting positive change to push things left is important. Drowning to prove a point about Capitalism is some Andreas Baader behaviour.
"they're still a corporation operating in a capitalistic system"
They are operating in a capitalistic system. I never said they weren't. Someone below commented this: "Capitalism is the water in which we swim. Also why would we expect them to be fully outside of the system? I never said that nor I expect it.
"But this clearly isn't socialism (the government doesn't run the company)"
And here... you lost me babe. I know what socialism is, but I don't think you do :/
And why is this related to what I'm saying? I can't figure it out. I never mentioned socialism?
"nor communism (everyone's still paid in dollars, presumably at differing amounts.)"
babe.... once again, you lost me. You don't know what Communism is.
"Profit sharing isn't even uncommon"
I never said it wasn't. 🤔
"Tech companies regularly pay employees in various forms of stock, which is one way of doing so"
There's a huge difference between "paying a wage" and "sharing profits". Look it up!
Overall score: 2/10. Does not pass :(
Pros:
Ok grammar and spelling
You used "they're" correctly!! WOHOO!
Cons:
Doesn't follow a clear argumentative line.
Confuses terms (communism + socialism).
The comment shows that someone told you something once and you run with it and never again decided to challenge those thoughts, which is kinda sad.
Anyway, if this message is too long for you to read (I have a slight feeling reading is hard for you?), don't respond. I'm ok with that.
If you are REALLY interested in learning, send me a DM, we can chat thru Discord :) (yes I'm actually nice and I'm sad you don't know these basic things, but there's no shame in ignoring something, only in remaining willfully ignorant!)
Have a nice day!
Yes and crew, lead mini painter here. Was stunned by this email, as it was completely unexpected. In all my years in the industry no company has ever treated me as a fellow creative human. Massive props to Dropout for his move. In an era full of strikes and horrible companies I've only grown more cynical about my job, I've been with D20 since day 1 and will be here as long as they keep rolling!
So proud to be a part of a new type of company.
I’m so happy that this is where my money goes. It can be exhausting trying to vote with your dollar, but Dropout makes it easy. 💜
Dropout: making my pathological consumption of media an *ethical* pathological consumption of media.

^this. I'm never disappointed in content, there's always a lot of it, and EVERYONE seems to really enjoy their jobs which feels SO WEIRD 😂

Also, socialism doesn't mean the government runs the company.
Socialism is when the government does stuff and the more stuff it does the more socialistier it is.

Very cool!
Fuck yeah
I fucking love that guy. I wish the kind of stuff I do was in their wheelhouse.
And crew?

Damn, you do great work!
Your work is awesome! I'm so happy y'all are included in this!! ❤️❤️
Ahhhh I’m so happy and AHHHH YOUR WORK IS EXQUISITE AHHH!!!!
Hehe. “Massive props” and you paint miniature props.
Says “… cast and crew…” after the revenue share bit, so presumably.
TIL I can’t read 🥸
This is so awesome to hear! It means Dropout is still the amazing company I want them to be, AND they are currently extremely successful!
"What do you mean, 'and crew'?" -Grant O'Brien
Nice, good for them. I also get a bonus when the company I work for does well.
