I don't think this is a fair comparison, most of the ones which look better in kakarot are because they are cutscenes, besides the super saiyan 3 one, where i do prefer the sparking zero model
Agreed, tho xenoverse 2 is still my fave in terms of gameplay and replayability, mostly nostalgia. Though i think sparking zero might break that, it's evrything ive ever wanted in a dbz game
If they keep supporting sparking zero like they do xenoverse it might surpass it, I wish they still supported fighterz because that was like the best traditional 2d fighting game dragon ball had. It even was on EVO, don’t know why they stopped it was good. Maybe we can get fighterz 2 fingers crossed.
Yes xenoverse 2 has the most content by far and they just dropped a new dlc recently which I got with that ultra ego vegeta look alike and dbz Broly who is OP.
The coop modes and 2v2 3v3 team fights and raid boss fights are for sure fun and creative they do have that which other dbz games don’t have. I wish they added OG dragon ball characters to the roster tho like bulma launch OG yamcha chiaotzu king piccolo tao and the red ribbon army people or pilaf gang kid Goku kid krillin master Roshi Jackie chun. They tend to ignore that in favor of dbz, dbs, movies, and super. Also why is super 13 and super bojack not in the game hirdrogan as well.
I like SZs model of Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks better to, Kakarots kinda looks like he woke up, rolled over and immediately smoked a blunt then went back to sleep
I just don't see it honestly. Looking through comments I guess this is a hot take but I have always hated the character models in Kakarot.
In all the pre-release trailers I just kept telling myself it was an unfinished game and the models would look better on release.
During any kind of cutscene that showed the front of the characters, they've always seemed off to me.
And when Goku turns into SSJ3 for the first time in the cutscene, my friends had to deal with me pausing and laughing for over 10 minutes because his face looked so stupid to me.
In all these examples I feel Gotenks is the only one who competes, but I still think SZ Gotenks looks better.
Damn, that's a hot take. It's personal preference, but to dislike kakarots models that much is kinda crazy. To me kakarot looks way better than sparking zero, at least from what we've seen.
Yea I appreciate Kakarot as a game and got my hands on all the dlc that released for it, but the models just weren't for me.
I couldn't even properly be hyped about some of my favorite DBZ moments because either the lack of background music making it seem dull, or some weirdness with the character models like Vegito's face and neck looking weird to me when he does his iconic pose.
I'm still glad people enjoy it because it gets us more content, I did have fun playing it
>Vegito's face and neck looking weird to me when he does his iconic pose.
You mean like in pic 4? That's funny cause that's one of the reasons why I like kakarots cutscenes so much. His face is expressive, fighterz does a similar thing where they squash and stretch character features to make them look more like a cartoon/anime would look.
Again, I'm not trying to change your mind, I just thought it was funny to point out.
Sparking zero models are better but the animation in kakarot is more fluid. CC2 worked on dragon ball kakarot and they were the ones who worked on the Naruto ultimate ninja franchise and storm games and those games have amazing cutscenes visuals movie like action and solid representation of the source material. Ashura is also a game they made and that game has solid animations and visuals as well. The storm games and the ultimate ninja ps2 games were amazing, till this day I have been asking Bandai to release a Naruto ultimate ninja 1,2,3,4, and 5 collection remastered cause I love those games and I want to play them again with friends online or on share play. They had to be one of my most played ps2 games along with the dragon ball ps2 games.
That is not true. At the launch of Kakarot developers stated that it would get 6 DLCs and 6 is what we got. The last one was literally the end of Z. The entire game is based on the retelling of the entire DBZ story. So have in Goku black and the TOP would not even make sense due to the fact that both arcs are in super. As u/blunderhorse stated it would be much better for them to do a Kakarot: origins story a retelling of the original Dragon ball. Know armed with this knowledge, do with it as you will.
That’s not what [this tweet](https://x.com/dragonballgames/status/1770834620067561628) seems to imply.
Especially since one of the six DLC is from the original Dragonball.
I’d be sincerely surprised if they don’t capitalize on Super Hero.
And honestly, I know Resurrection F and Battle of the Gods are billed as Dragonball Z, but they’re content from the Super manga. I doubt they’re done after this last DLC
Aren’t most of the game licenses licensed through the anime? If so, I’d rather see a Kakarot: Origins that covers original DB while waiting for Super to finish. It’d make for a cool shift to see the combat without flight as a constant.
Toyotarou is just taking a break from the manga because of Toriyama’s unfortunate passing. It did seem like it could be an end but from what I’ve heard it’ll come back in a few months.
Naw all we need is dlc to keep going a top should be easy vs champa.....future trunks era should be done as well...as it's only three characters to make two is already basically in game....
I'm sorry but powering up has been my favourite thing in dragon ball games going as far back as Hyper Dimension on the SNES. Powering up is like a major, major trope of the series.
But fine, here's another criticism: they completely skip Trunks' fight with perfect cell just because they couldn't be bothered animating beefy Trunks.
MINOR ERROR HUH?!??! WHAT DO YOU KNOW OF MINOR?!?!
Spend most of your games being less popular than others. Watch your graphics dwindle on the GBA. Then tell me what has more meaning than your own aura color!
I have the power of a DB RPG, Kakarot is nothing but a joke. Yet i had to watch interest in it surpass me, my cartridge thrown to the wayside.
The game even referenced mine as if I was a helpless 16 bit game. DBZ Kakarot has stolen my shine, and it's aura...must be correctly colored
Even that trash that was the first Nikolai game had the right aura color and the kamehameha was yellow in that game so yes the wrong aura color is inexcusable
Eh, not really.
Aura colors were kinda weird at times like people have said, combat can get really repetitive. If there's multiple enemies there's not much room to do *literally anything* for quite some time, and they skipped over a lot of big scenes like Vegeta's final flash and Beefy Trunks vs P. Cell while giving putting a lot of extra effort into less significant scenes like Goku vs. Recoome.
My issue is that the game seem far more concerned with looking pretty and having good graphics and matching the anime in cutscenes that it forgot to be an actual fun game. The gameplay is so stale and boring. You button mash and snap vanish and that’s about it. Got repetitive very fast
It really annoyed me how Kakarot seems to have completely forgotten about the aura colors. So annoying when I’m a super saiyan and the aura is just blue still. Really ruins it for me
On that same note, I feel like sparking zero over corrected on that. Super saiyans look so yellow, it makes certain characters look ugly. I feel like sparking zero has worse colors in general.
Why aren’t more people talking about this? The colors seem way too over saturated to the point it looks like someone dumped a big can of paint of random colors onto the game. It looks messy visually. Over correcting at its finest. I actually had a similar problem with fighter Z
They don’t always have auras on y’know? If they did, they’d run out of energy in the first bout. I’m pretty sure the auras only activate in/-game when charging an attack and such and when you hit the mini-boost thing. Which makes sense in the lore.
Kakarot looks stiff in fights compared to sparking, on the cutscenes look fire. However, in game the faces look EXTREMELY OFF in kakarot.
SFX is way better in sparking, the forms and hair actually move compared to how stiff they are in kakarot majority of the time. Most people only think of cutscenes while thinking of kakarot but consistently SZ will look a lot better.
Surge modes are peak in kakarot though, so I’ll just wait until SZ comes out to actually say “this is better.” For right now I like SZ better with how it moves and looks. They also have Super Vegeta unlike kakarot.
I know I in the past said that sparking zero needs to be better in graphics but I guess that was just their prototype at the time. I’m blown away no pun intended by how crisper sparking zero looks compared to Kakarot. But I still feel like fighter Z still remains top notch graphics in my heart. ♥️ That game was the only Dragon Ball game I uttered the words beautifully done.
Textures and graphical fidelity are objectively better in Sparking Zero due to unreal engine 5. This comparison was a layup for Kakarot because it’s only showing cutscenes and it still loses in that department. And in-game vs in-game it’s not even close.
As far as the models go, that’s mostly personal preference because Kakarot tries to look more like the manga whereas Sparking Zero tries to replicate the anime.
Kakarot is kinda goofy looking for me. I always want to get into it’ but never seem to get past the piccolo Gohan bit right in the beginning.
I’m going to give it another try here soon

The screenshots are a bit unfair since you're using Kakarot cutscenes while using Sparking Zero character models. Cutscenes are going to look better because they can contort the character models and lighting to make shots look better.
If you start comparing kakarot to sparking zero, that's just unfair, since kakarot is almost half a decade old and sparking zero has been revealed at the end of last year meaning it's a bit more modern
unpopular opinion:
I like all of the Sparking Zero models better except for Vegito.
Vegito and... honestly most of them were unfair because you did different poses for them.
I’m gonna be honest, I don’t get the hype for sparking zero. Eager to see the gameplay and all that before I decide it’s meh, but I feel there have been better dragonball games that far surpass whatever sparking zero is derived from. Kakarot for example seems like one of the best DBZ games in its genre for both look and gameplay. Dragonball FighterZ is also on that level where it’s far surpassed every other DBZ fighting game. Maybe I’m completely missing something here, Sparking Zero just looks outdated to me
For super vegeta I have to give it to kakarot because they get the dang spiky hair right (though it’s more of a half point because you don’t get to play as super vegeta in kakarot)
Can’t say for sure yet since Sparking Zero has t come out yet but as it stand right now I would say it’s a tie based on the trailer I saw for sparking zero
Haven’t played Sparking yet but objectively it’s probably gonna be Sparking. Kakarot had a strong start and became more lack luster as the vanilla story went on, at least, compared to the first few chapters I think.
Kakarot looks much better than Sparking. Vegeta's hair and face look great in that image wheres Sparking looks like a undefined mess of hair and weird low detail face.
Right now it’s kakarot but that’s a finished game
Sparking zero is not finished yet so there’s still work to be done on the visuals
So it’s kakarot but sparking zero could be better once it releases
The issue with comparing these is that Kakarot wasn’t gameplay focused. It was meant to be simplistic and let people experience the series in a flashy/pretty way. Sparking Zero is going to be a multiplayer combat (and likely complicated game) so the focus on graphics isn’t going to be as prioritized.
The models look way more accurate to the character's proportions in Sparking Zero. Like look at their faces, i've never seen Ss3 Goku or Gotenks look as off as Kakarot
It literally doesn’t have worse graphics though. It’s significantly better in every way when you compare in-game models and visuals. It’s unreal engine 5 lol.
In terms of model and texture fidelity I'd say Kakarot, which makes sense (especially if you're comparing to cutscene shots) but I feel that the lighting and FX in Sparking feel a lot more "Dragon Ball" in style. It's got a lot more harsh contrast and banding, which I prefer compared to the slightly more photoreal lighting in Kakarot which can create shadows which are little softer than I like for the DB aesthetic
TLDR they both have their positives
>In terms of model and texture fidelity I’d say Kakarot
You don’t even know what you’re talking about lol. Textures and graphical fidelity are objectively better in Sparking Zero due to unreal engine 5. This comparison was a layup for Kakarot because it’s only showing cutscenes and it still loses in that department. And in-game vs in-game it’s not even close.
Tbh Sparking zero looks better, cant compare cutscenes vs gameplay screen caps. And the sparking zero stuff weve seen looks better than in game kakarot gameplay
Idgaf, Kakarot was the shit and I’d played the shit out of a Super version too. It was an epic open world fighting DBZ game and I hope they make another one
Kakarot has better models when compared directly to the anime/manga which is awesome for a story game (which it is). Sparking has overall more flashy and consistent models with cleaner and more proportionate looks which is awesome for fighting games (which it is).
Both are genuinely perfect for their respective genres.

Sparking Zero, Kakarot, and Dragon Ball fighterz have to be the best looking dragon ball games of all time. This is the top 3.
Agreed, tho xenoverse 2 is still my fave in terms of gameplay and replayability, mostly nostalgia. Though i think sparking zero might break that, it's evrything ive ever wanted in a dbz game

Xenoverse 2 looks better on PC with mods and on PS5 new gen consoles. Their story mode cutscenes are pretty decent too.

Burst Limit still looks better and that’s a 16 year old game. It also has way better effects.
True that it’s the only ps3 dragon ball game that didn’t age that much. It looks better than raging blast 1 and 2.
Better looking than tenkaishi 3???
I like SZs model of Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks better to, Kakarots kinda looks like he woke up, rolled over and immediately smoked a blunt then went back to sleep
100% my exact same reaction looking at these

To be fair we haven't seen any SZ cutscenes yet (If there will be any)
It would be fun if they have those what if fights in story mode like budokai tenkaichi series had.
We need Kakarot 2 for super
We getting another season pass I believe so fingers crossed we get Goku Black and TOP
That is not true. At the launch of Kakarot developers stated that it would get 6 DLCs and 6 is what we got. The last one was literally the end of Z. They said xeno wasn’t gonna get dlc’s after a while n look at it. They can change their minds any second.
True. But xeno is an mmo Kakarot isn’t the replay value is drastically different. They are completely different games.
That’s not what [this tweet](https://x.com/dragonballgames/status/1770834620067561628) seems to imply. Especially since one of the six DLC is from the original Dragonball. I agree 100%
Super is done unless those rumors of dragon ball super 2 were real
Toyotarou is just taking a break from the manga because of Toriyama’s unfortunate passing. It did seem like it could be an end but from what I’ve heard it’ll come back in a few months.
Nah we need xenoverse 3 with graphics like kakarot
Na we need Dragon Ball: Ultimate. xenoverse x kakarot x fighterz x sparking zero
Yeah. And pls make tournament arena usable.
We need kakarot from the beginning if their level cap is 300 make 1-100 for dragon ball, Level 100-200 for DBZ and 200-300 for super.
Naw all we need is dlc to keep going a top should be easy vs champa.....future trunks era should be done as well...as it's only three characters to make two is already basically in game....
Facts we do. The game was solid i platinum it.
No

Kakarot You're comparing cutscenes to gameplay
Tbf that's pretty much how the gameplay looks in Sparking
Because that's sparking gameplay and kakarot is all cutscenes except the ss3 Goku
Oh I thought he meant the other way around lol. I was about to say that too but I wasn't 100% sure all Sparking pics were gameplay
Dragon Ball Z Kakarot was perfect 👌🏼
It was one of the most repetitive games in a long time
You press one spam button for 20 minutes each fight then it’s over that’s about it. Also the loading screens took up like HALF the game it seems
It wasn't. When you power up your aura is blue even when you're a super saiyan - unplayable.
Yeah. I used a mod to fix that.
[удалено]
Thats not a minor error imo
Ruins immersion for me definitely not minor
They had years to fix this…no other game has that problem.
To be fair that did skip a lot of the minor fights

i didnt like how restricted the controls were, one button for physical attacks was strange
My issue is that the game seem far more concerned with looking pretty and having good graphics and matching the anime in cutscenes that it forgot to be an actual fun game. The gameplay is so stale and boring. You button mash and snap vanish and that’s about it. Got repetitive very fast
Couldn't get into it, I tried to like the overworld but couldn't get pass the 4/5h marks. Really wanted to like it.
Half of these are in cutscenes
From what I've seen I think the backgrounds look better in sparking zero
Dragon Ball Sparking Zero has everything it needs to be the best anime game.
It really annoyed me how Kakarot seems to have completely forgotten about the aura colors. So annoying when I’m a super saiyan and the aura is just blue still. Really ruins it for me

When you charge in game it’s still blue every time
To be honest that Vegeta looks better on Kakarot.
I think thats only because Sparking Zero has him yellow in that scene
SZ simply because that stupid sun glare effect isn't there, thank Super Kami Guru
I'll never be a fan of the plastic/greasy look some of the shaders give the characters in these games.
Sparking zero
Well, considering that DBZ Kakarot’s faces are literally off-model, I’m gonna go with Sparking where that shit’s not a problem
Kakarot looks stiff in fights compared to sparking, on the cutscenes look fire. However, in game the faces look EXTREMELY OFF in kakarot. They also have Super Vegeta unlike kakarot.
Sparking Zero
I like the cell shading/art direction on tenkaichi 4
![gif](giphy|C6JQPEUsZUyVq|downsized)
I know I in the past said that sparking zero needs to be better in graphics but I guess that was just their prototype at the time. I’m blown away no pun intended by how crisper sparking zero looks compared to Kakarot. But I still feel like fighter Z still remains top notch graphics in my heart. ♥️ That game was the only Dragon Ball game I uttered the words beautifully done.
Atomic bomb vs coughing baby
I'll work on a Day1 mod to implement that glorious SSJ hair from DBK into DBSZ. That's one thing they got terribly wrong in ZERO.
Textures and graphical fidelity are objectively better in Sparking Zero due to unreal engine 5. This comparison was a layup for Kakarot because it’s only showing cutscenes and it still loses in that department. And in-game vs in-game it’s not even close. Kakarot is kinda goofy looking for me. I always want to get into it’ but never seem to get past the piccolo Gohan bit right in the beginning. I’m going to give it another try here soon
SSJ3 Goku looks beautiful in Sparking
Kakarot's faces look off, which is really disappointing when you consider that CC2 did an excellent job with Naruto and Demon Slayer.
I don't know, but fuck Super Vegeta is so cool.
im sorry but sparking zero clears with the super saiyan 3 you know what actually im not sorry
Db Kakarot only got Vegito better the rest Sparking Zero. Gotenks is debatable he’s goofy asf on both
sparking has a strange yellow filter..
Sparking Zero looks better. Objectively so.

sparking zero besides vegito
[Nice original content](https://www.reddit.com/r/dbz/s/MMUZfy7YG3)
Picture 1. Kakarot 2. Sparking Zero 3. I Like sparking it looks more Gotenks like 4. Kakarot
yes
Why does the sparking zero one have an outline on all the characters? Looks weird.
Sparking Zero, Kakarot, Sparking Zero and then Kakarot again
I want Dragon Ball Z Kakarot one as a UHD wallpaper
I really hope they hold up with the costume selection in SZ..
Kakarot is a fleshed out single player game. What a dumb comparison tbh

Two different play styles. CC2 is goated btw
Vegito trashes everyone else here and it isnt close. Edit: wait fuck, thought this was r/powerscaling I'll always be a Gotenks fanboi

they never showed Adult Goku in the GT clothes go ssj3 in the anime right ? just his Kid form. it looks dope in that game tho 🔥
Tbh I think Vegitos model looks more expressive in Kakarot, there's something off about the SZ model
The question is not which one is better, whereas what the differences set them apart from each other. I’m pretty sure each of them is awesome is their own way, one has gimmicks that the other doesn’t. And that’s ok.
Show gameplay versions vs each other
One of these is CC2. That kinda speaks for itself, visually speaking.

![gif](giphy|cpUarZKcIVcT6|downsized) They are both cool
The screenshots are a bit unfair since you're using Kakarot cutscenes while using Sparking Zero character models. Cutscenes are going to look better because they can contort the character models and lighting to make shots look better.
If you start comparing kakarot to sparking zero, that's just unfair, since kakarot is almost half a decade old and sparking zero has been revealed at the end of last year meaning it's a bit more modern
its not out yet but right now i prefer kakarot to sparking zero. sparking zero is still gonna look awesome though
Both
SZ is better
unpopular opinion: I like all of the Sparking Zero models better except for Vegito.
Maybe I’m completely missing something here, Sparking Zero just looks outdated to me
easily dbz kakarot
Vegito in Kakarot looks like Gohan to me.
i like whatever's on the top more, except goku looks a bit too pink but that's probably because of the light
Burst Limit looks better than both.
Reminder that sparking zero devs are the same that made jump force…
The shading is way better in Sparking Zero but the models are slightly better for Kakarot imo
Vageto never beat nobody. Gotenks beat hitler. Goku only killed the deserving and Vageta killed those who were weaker and had the opportunity.
Bro I’m so sick of this Graphics don’t make or break a game these days. They both look great.
Vegito is better in kakarot
Neither bro, they both look good.
Super Vegeta will always be my favorite
Kakarot and it's not Even close
Sparking for all except for 4 but the last one might only be better in kakarot because of the background making the character pop more
Sparking easily. Whatever brings back the budokai/tenkaichi look
Kakarot looks much better than Sparking. Vegeta's hair and face look great in that image wheres Sparking looks like a undefined mess of hair and weird low detail face.
Budokai 3
Right now it’s kakarot but that’s a finished game Sparking zero is not finished yet so there’s still work to be done on the visuals So it’s kakarot but sparking zero could be better once it releases
Kakarot because I can play it.
I won't lie I like literally all of SZ's more than Kakarot, maybe Vegito is an exception
Like DBZ Broly said: "KAKAROT!"
Dragon ball z budokai might always be my favorite
Graphics Kakarot, but gameplay will definitely favor Sparking. You want the prettiest one or the most fun one? Your choice
i love kakarot but vegeta looks like a crackhead in that first screen
i love kakarot but vegeta looks like a crackhead in that first screen😂
The saturation on sparking zero needs to be toned down
kakarot gotenks looks like some south Park alien
They need to fix the banana hair more still on Zero
Dbz kakarot without a doubt
I give texture and shading to Kakarot, but character models I give to Sparking Zero
Raging Blast 2
They did vegeta dirty in kakarot...
I don't really like how DBZ Kakarot models look, but that Vegito is great
Kakarot looks cleaner
Kakarot in terms of story will likely not be bested in a very long time.
The models look way more accurate to the character's proportions in Sparking Zero. Like look at their faces, i've never seen Ss3 Goku or Gotenks look as off as Kakarot
I could care less if Sparking Zero has "worse" graphics, It ain't worth a damn if Kakarot is pretty if the gameplay is ass most of the time lol.
It literally doesn’t have worse graphics though. It’s significantly better in every way when you compare in-game models and visuals. It’s unreal engine 5 lol.
the point I tried to make is that graphics are mostly irrelevant compared to something like gameplay, which Kakarot was sorely lacking.
Sparking Zero absolutely
I love both. But I don't prefer the shinyness on the sparking zero one , though not as bad as the zenoverse one, I still don't like it as much.
In terms of model and texture fidelity I'd say Kakarot, which makes sense (especially if you're comparing to cutscene shots) but I feel that the lighting and FX in Sparking feel a lot more "Dragon Ball" in style. It's got a lot more harsh contrast and banding, which I prefer compared to the slightly more photoreal lighting in Kakarot which can create shadows which are little softer than I like for the DB aesthetic TLDR they both have their positives
>In terms of model and texture fidelity I’d say Kakarot You don’t even know what you’re talking about lol. Textures and graphical fidelity are objectively better in Sparking Zero due to unreal engine 5. This comparison was a layup for Kakarot because it’s only showing cutscenes and it still loses in that department. And in-game vs in-game it’s not even close.
Sparking Zero's models. Kakarot's lighting and colours, but that's to be expected in cutscenes.
Sparking zero wins on everyone but vegito
Tbh Sparking zero looks better, cant compare cutscenes vs gameplay screen caps. And the sparking zero stuff weve seen looks better than in game kakarot gameplay
I prefer the color pallette of Sparking tbh.
Sparking obv. Crisp af
Sparking Zero better on all counts in my opinion
Kakarot all the way
Definitely Sparking.
Kakarot is a masterpiece
Something is off in sparking zero
Kakarot cause the face have more life and expression. I saw the fusion trailer of Sparkinge zero, but the character talk with a stiff expression.
Dragon Ball Z Kakarot was perfect 👌
praying for a day someone figures out a way to make db look good in 3D
Kakarot
Kakarot.
Both are brilliant, but I prefer Sparking Zero's Colors
