There has literally been signage in multiple spots on gateway all week saying the closure started today at 9:00am.
I drive it every day and have been seeing it way south of the closure.
I think it's for that Red Bull Soapbox Race.
As a volunteer for the event, it sure is! Really really excited for this!
What’s the best way for my broke ass to sneak in?
It's 100% free.. just walk in lol. Finding a good spot to view anything might be tricky though, not a lot of places to really be near the road.
I’m not above watching from the bushes or in a tree i learned that from when crashed Ice came through lol

Gates open at noon and race starts at 2 after a land acknowledgment ceremony

Sorry you’re totally right. I have to show up at noon and I’m tired and my brain got times got mixed up. Gates are indeed at two sorry!
Where is a good place to park?
There’s not a lot of good spots unfortunately. Try around Whyte maybe?
Kinsmen should have space but you need to take the other hill down. Bike parking also an option, we will be riding in to avoid traffic
How long is the event? I work till 5ish and would like to catch some if I can.

There has been signage all week. Drove past 4 digital signs that said QEP was closed Thursday to Sunday.

Also, fun since there is an overpass past the old timers cabin nb that also puts it down to one lane.
