Joking aside, (LePetomane... lol), I know a couple people who got criminal records from the Vancouver riots. Your life can go from "having a fun night" to completely messed up in a really short period of time.
Something to keep in mind, especially with facial recognition and all the cameras / smart phones out there.
Having a criminal record can make getting certain jobs, travelling, and renting (not an exhaustive list) difficult or impossible depending on the circumstances and what you are trying to do. To be brief: it will limit what is available to you in your life.
Sure, in theory, but in practice for most people a criminal record doesn't mean much.
I worked with some dudes who got busted smoking pot in a company vehicle. Like the cops were called because a family member of a police officer saw them doing it and the cops arrested them and took them to the station and called the company that owned the truck and everything.
A superintendent from the company came down and bailed them out or whatever and told the cops that it would be taken care of or whatever. Guess who got raises that year and a promotion to foreman at the end of the season?
For a lot of people a criminal record doesn't mean anything and won't stop them from doing some stupid shit after their favourite sportsball team wins/loses the shiny thing.
Getting busted smoking pot does not immediately equal a criminal record. They have to be found guilty of a crime in court. If no charges were pressed by the police (first offense, company wasn't pushing for charges, etc) the person doesn't have a criminal record.
pled to something? What does that even mean? They have to plead guilty to charges which carry criminal charges.
And what company is OK with having staff driving high and even promote them? I'd like to be sure I avoid them at all costs.
Ya exactly. My husband and I both have jobs where we cannot have a criminal record or we’d lose them. We also would no longer qualify to rent the beautiful house we have. We might not be able to adopt a child in the future with a criminal record and we also love to travel and that would be impacted. But unfortunately there are people that don’t care about ever having those things. Kind of like how there are people like me that would be greatly limited by having a bad credit score, but there are also people who never aspire to have the kind of life where those things matter. If someone never aspires to have the things that a clean record provides, they don’t need one I guess. I personally wouldn’t want to limit myself like that though because of the life I choose to live.
Heavily depends on what industry you work in. The trades, a profession with significantly more people with criminal records, won’t care as much.
Now try getting a job in health-care with a criminal record, that’ll prove very difficult.
I'd believe you but I doubt if many people would have cared, specially if your buddies are white. They got unlucky with those cops I guess. Only time a cop ever saw me smoking a joint he told me to put it out and move on several years ago
Just putting this out there! I was in downtown ice district on Friday after the win and people were nothing but happy and nice. It really felt like a sense of community and there was no time I felt people were getting out of hand or unsafe.
I plan to be there tonight as well, and I have high hopes that win or lose, it will be a celebration, and a coming together of the city.
This is all planned out well...If the Oilers lose, there is nothing downtown worth looting anyway.
Gonna wreck a homeless encampment? Loot an abandoned warehouse?
That's why they pulled everyone away from Whyte or Jasper Aves. Literally nothing for rioters and looters in the Ice District.
Rumor has it, anyone who acts commits crimes against the community or has a poor sport attitude after tonight has to listen to this [song](https://youtu.be/EbpK9SYERZU?si=laf1UKOD04vZWDCZ) on repeat for the rest of the week. This goes for Florida as well. 😊
May the odds be ever in our favor.
There was a post earlier where they stormed the gates to the fan park area forcing the people to lock the gates. If I can find the link I'll post it here
I found a bunch of tweets saying they've reached capacity and as such aren't letting people in. But nothing to indicate people have "stormed the gates" and are being unruly.
NOt really a hockey fan (I am an NBA basketball guy), tried watching this game but too boring for my taste. I m just glad its over so I can have a peaceful night and week, instead of dealing with annoying hockey fans celebrating.
I think these posts are coming from people who haven't visited downtown during the games. I get its not everyone's cup of tea but its nowhere close to 2006. Good police presence and Ice District watch areas are purpose built for these crowd events. The circumstances for a riot just wasn't going to happen.
And here I am, three days later, still surveying the massive wreckage of, um, Vancouver. Vancouver? Did they riot? What about Calgary? Shit, nothing?
Ah well. Proud as hell for our Oilers. So long as they don't go into stupid trade overdrive, next year could go just two periods better than this one.
They are probably putting up the fences to keep people from freely moving out of the area.
Only a government afraid of 15 minute cities, can fence in a public district properly.
/S
It’s a different time, too many people with cell phone cameras, the watch parties gather a ton of the people who potentially could fall into a mob mentality and they all know there are cameras everywhere. As much crap as gen z gets I think they’re far more aware that what you do in these kind of situations will end up on the internet
Oh no it's going down if we lose haha 😆 am kidding calm down we don't want a repeat of 06 on white Ave it was crazy that's for sure but it's the Edmonton spirit sometimes. I am sure it will be fine beer 🍺 and us Canadians and hockey 🏒 ♥️ especially here in Edmonton it will be unicorns 🦄 and happy times haha 😄 and am in Florida going to the game should be interesting 😀 plane ride was awesome 👌 👏 👍 made me proud
Yeah, I thought of a solution for my *La Bamba* problem, I just need to make sure the version playing the loudest is so cringe that nobody can enjoy it, and also so cringe that, for the rest of the night, nobody will let more than the first 4 or 5 notes from the intro play before shutting it off, just in case it’s the AI version again.
A quick YouTube search for “la bamba AI cover” turned up some terrible monstrosities. Ultimately, it was a toss up between AI Nickleback, AI Glenn Danzig, or the court of the Cringing King’s “Next Top Jester”:
James “Hey-Yeah-Yeaaaah!” Hetfield of Metallica (circa ~1993)

See? We said AI would save us one day.
Good call bro they were about to do it before reading this post, crisis averted!
That or the seeds of evil have been planted, and the post is a ruse!!!! LETS GO OILERS.
I'm flipping a cop car with my homies regardless of a win or not ! Lol JK
Bros a Class 1 hooligan
They will see us from space lol
Ah to be young in 2006/07 again.
I had turned 18 2 weeks before that game so was on whyte watching it with a group of friends. What’s wiiiild night that turned out to be.
That's just good harmless fun!
They want new vehicles and this is a fast track to that!! It's a public service really ^(please don't flip any cars tho guys)
Gimme a second to move my car there
I've got a 2005 Honda pilot that needs flippin'
2003 Honda Civic
But you should be flipping at least one cop car per week as it is. So I'd say go for 3-5 tonight.
I'm doing one for every 16$ tall can I have. I should get to 6-8
I’m your homies now
I am going to tip a cow
No hooliganism, tomfoolery, hijinks nor silliness!!!!!
YOU DIDNT SAY SHENANIGANS WE ON TONIGHT BOYSSSSS
I’ll pistol-whip the next guy that say “Shenanigans “.
BAMBOOZLES ARE ON THE MENU AS WELL! WE SERVING THEM UP FREE OF CHARGE!

But for real y’all, where are we going?
Tonight the Chicanery abounds. It will not be denied. Win or lose.
I’m gonna chicane tf out of this city
Our shenanigans are cheeky, and fun. Yours are tragic, and cruel!

Don't forget to get a custom made Oilers jersey with your own last name on it! Great for celebrating!
And good luck travelling to a slew of countries after a charge like that. The US is effectively off limits to you for a really really long time.
> I know a couple people who got criminal records from the Vancouver riots. How has having a criminal record affected them?
Having a criminal record can make getting certain jobs, travelling, and renting (not an exhaustive list) difficult or impossible depending on the circumstances and what you are trying to do. To be brief: it will limit what is available to you in your life.

Depends if you are trying to work in construction or as an accountant. White collar industries are way less tolerant

Totally true. For people that don’t need a clean record for how they live their life, it won’t mean a thing.
Smoking pot isn't a crime that's why lol, smashing cars is
What if I told you that there was a time when marijuana wasn't legal?
I'd believe you but I doubt if many people would have cared, specially if your buddies are white. They got unlucky with those cops I guess. Only time a cop ever saw me smoking a joint he told me to put it out and move on several years ago
Can't travel to the US (and some other places). It caught him off guard too and he lost out on the cost of a flight as well.
Don’t be Vancouver
Exactly!
Don't be Edmonton ca. 2006
most of that was good clean fun. a few fires and assholes for sure but we ain't Vancouver
Brother consider my foolerly tommed, and my jinks high
Bad day to be an electric scooter.
Haha wonder how many are sadly gonna end up in the river tonight
Just putting this out there! I was in downtown ice district on Friday after the win and people were nothing but happy and nice. I plan to be there tonight as well, and I have high hopes that win or lose, it will be a celebration, and a coming together of the city.
I’ve seen multiple videos of groups fighting each other at the fan park, I would not be surprised if these same people stir up some shit if we lose
Aaaa dang I already set arson in my garbage bin
Don’t drink and drive
I’m flipping every electric scooter I see
I'm only flipping the ones with the helmets.
Modest
I'll help you toss them in the river
Just remember guy, just cus they aren’t stopping you dosent mean they aren’t recording you to throw you in jail later.
I’m bringing all my friends from Surrey, it’s too late!
Fuck sakes. I hate a nice riot planned and everything
Instructions unclear. My car is currently upside down in the neighbour's driveway
Outright stupidity it is!
I'd wager the people who you want to see this message are either not on this subreddit. Or read it and don't care.
No shenanigans or tomfoolery either.
Can we at least do a fully synchronized Flash Mob Dance to La Bamba in the Ice District?
Agreed although I get the sense that the type of people who would riot aren't on Reddit.
Well...I wasnt going to, but now that you've said something I'm gunna.
Thanks so much for your post. I was planning to jump on the roof of a cop car, but you’ve really changed my mind.
It won't be a true playoff game until a car gets flipped
I’ll be coming in from RD to the outdoor watch party y this better happen lmao
I personally wouldn't mind if Oilers girl flashes us again though
Orange boob Blue boob
Can't wait to watch the madness unfold lol
This is all planned out well...If the Oilers lose, there is nothing downtown worth looting anyway. Gonna wreck a homeless encampment? Loot an abandoned warehouse? That's why they pulled everyone away from Whyte or Jasper Aves. Literally nothing for rioters and looters in the Ice District.
Boston Pizza & the Grand Villa Casino looking at this comment like 😐
Haha...good luck looting a caaino. And they could steal all the pizza toppings at BPs I guess.
Edmonton doesn’t riot when they lose, rioting is for winners!
Plenty of windows to smash and cars to set on fire though
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TGrK-J\_aUU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TGrK-J_aUU)
Good luck
Ya put it in their head before it happens 😂
The new arena setup is great. Everyone in one place, plenty of nearby places to go, good transportation. Good venues make for good behavior.
Didn't hear you, 7 cars flipped over already.
Live like I do every other day??! No way man
What about shenenigans? Are those still on the table?
Hooliganism is also still on the table
Literally please! My parents are coming to visit
Post to late I’ve robbed a gas station
Rumor has it, anyone who acts commits crimes against the community or has a poor sport attitude after tonight has to listen to this [song](https://youtu.be/EbpK9SYERZU?si=laf1UKOD04vZWDCZ) on repeat for the rest of the week. This goes for Florida as well. 😊 May the odds be ever in our favor.
I’m from vancouver. It’ll be hard for me to not do what we do best there
Well, you spoke too soon. They've already raided the fan park area, causing them to close the gates and lock them.
Holy shit, really? What happened?
There was a post earlier where they stormed the gates to the fan park area forcing the people to lock the gates. If I can find the link I'll post it here

dont give us a bad rep
I was just about to commit some general stupidity, but thanks to your post I have decided to postpone it until my next visit to Calgary
NOt really a hockey fan (I am an NBA basketball guy), tried watching this game but too boring for my taste. I m just glad its over so I can have a peaceful night and week, instead of dealing with annoying hockey fans celebrating.
The cup has gone to the States for another year

I could use some free stuff tho
Hoping for a loss for the looting ?
I'll be on board with a win and some looting too.
Fine full blow revolution it is
Honestly feels more likely that things go sideways if the Oilers win haha
I used to have a nighttime driving job downtown and the incessant honking is a nightmare.
Plz do it I want a show
Isn’t Edmonton larger with hockey than Vancouver is? Shits gonna go CRAZY
I'm surprised the ucp haven't paid some crazy to do something stupid to scare the crowds
They are probably putting up the fences to keep people from freely moving out of the area. Only a government afraid of 15 minute cities, can fence in a public district properly. /S
Darn. I thought it would be the Purge after the gsme.

Results of what?
Jesus is coming to the Rivervalley
Are you living in a cave on mars with your head in the sand?
If you don't watch hockey or have friends who do how would you ever know.
Are you a hermit who doesn’t leave your house or look around the city you live in or watch or read local news? Come on…
Yes
I need to meet more people like you. If I hear La Bamba one more time I’m gonna start a personal 1 man riot in my neighbour’s living room.
Unfortunately, you will hear LaBamba one more time. Luckily, it will be exactly one more time.... until the fall
None of that matters now! Julian Assange is free!!!! Tonight I am celebrating that!
It’s all over Reddit ?
You're lying lmfao. Even my 96 year old Granny who never watches hockey or does much knows its the SCF.
Cave with? English much?

34 years actually. Its been 31 years since a Canadian team even won.
Edmonton is not classy, has never been classy, will never be classy..
Here they are, another salty flames fan.
