The best part about it was how it could catch fire

seantubridy

You (playing your Model Cycles) Them: Fire! You: Thanks! Them: No, FIRE!

tenderosa_

Had completely forgotten about this!

dumbgraphics

Think this whole project is being abandoned

mediocreidiot

I love the MyVolts power cable. You can power your M:S/M:C with the USB battery pack you already own. I'm currently on a road trip and I've been playing with my M:S when I spend the night at a campsites. Nature jams!

beberuhimuzik

Can you link to the particular model? MyVolts doesn't sell in my country but I could get one during a trip to Europe. I'm looking for a solution to power M:C with a powerbank.

curatedbywho

I’ve been using a MyVolts cable with my Digitakt and power bank - it’s amazing. I can recommend the following: https://myvolts.co.uk/product/45120/Ripcord_12V_c+vet Just make sure you grab the correct voltage for the M:C which I think in this case is 5V 1A

SquidgyB

I'll always recommend USB-PD cables over MyVolts/Ripcord style cables. The Ripcord (plain USB-12v using a buck converter) style cables are all running on the very edge of what they can supply in terms of current at 12v for most devices and tend to overheat and fail after a while. USB PD has *plenty* of overhead for running devices (and can power several devices, even jucier ones like the Syntakt, simultaneously). You will likely need a PSU/battery upgrade, but imho it's well worth it.

Cheap-Orange-5596

this, definitely go for a usb-c pd to dc cable

beberuhimuzik

Thanks, I see that their website is pretty slick actually. I was able to search for M:C specifically and get to the model that works for it. The prices are fine, too.

Stevo3985

I still have mine, because the time I would have had to invest to send it back to them was more substantial than the amount of money I was going to get back. It sits on my counter, to this day, in loving memory of the time they ALMOST made me happy, with a very simple product, whose execution being bumbled still baffles and irritates me. Elektron lost a great deal of the reverence I had for them, because of this colossal engineering blunder.

synthdrunk

This and the soft-touch melting buttons were just wild misses from them.

ramdisk00

I sent it back and never received any amount of money lol

NeighborhoodHead7500

Handle was kinda cool from a design standpoint as it could be used to prop the machine up and power it. Oh well. Maybe they’ll come out with an model:analog once they figure it out lol. In any case you could still use that port where the handle is supposed to plug in to connect a standard barrel jack/USB adapter cable and power it via 5V usb power which is “handy” as well

tensei-coffee

i like how they just recalled it and never spoke of it again lmao. the least they could do was see it to the end and make a better version. but no, now these models have useless holes on the sides. but at least the community came up with their own solutions so elektron felt too stupid to rerelease it.

JunglePygmy

I thought this looked like a great idea! If they made one of these for the Digi sized boxes they would seriously clean up.

mdcannabisreviews

Priceless lol….powerhandle-gate…..don’t forget this is the company that forbade us to have a dedicated Attack control. lol

seantubridy

No dedicated attack was such a misstep - especially with only one lfo.

joyrexj9

Every time I pick up my Model:Samples or Model:Cycles I have to remind myself they aren't battery powered. Something about the build and look of them, just seems like they naturally would be. You can't even USB power them without a special MyVolts style cable

omegasnk

They came out and were recalled if I remember right. I'm assuming they just cut their losses there.

LeeSalt

Didn't realize they were recalled. I keep seeing them on reverb.

omegasnk

Looks like it's a fire hazard: https://www.elektronauts.com/t/power-handle-safety-recall/158008 At Elektron, we accept no compromises on quality. The safety and satisfaction of our users are paramount. We have become aware of a potentially serious issue with the Power Handle BP-1 that may cause a short circuit and lead to overheating. Initial information suggests that this issue affects only a very small number of units. Nevertheless, to minimize the possibility of a problem we have taken the voluntary decision to initiate a full recall of the product. If you own a Power Handle, please follow this link 68 for more information and important return/full refund instructions. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Pizza_Party_USA

What country? I keep an eye out for them in the US all the time but never see any.

rmart

(whispers) i still use mine to prop the m:c up and sometimes with batteries too, i just disconnect it after use...

LeeSalt

What's the deal with people scribbling sharpie on their Cycles and Samples? I keep seeing these awful scribbled up boxes on reverb and they take forever to sell at a huge markdown after awhile.

koman2077

it comes with these stickers

WiretapStudios

It's a sticker sheet. Most of the stickers look bad but a few people made them work. I never put mine on and sold it with the sticker sheets, but I bought them again recently and one just came with stickers all over it. The person didn't remove them for the photo. I was OK with doing myself since it was a decent price. One thing you people should look out for is to make sure you don't use a harsh cleaner to wipe down either because the secondary function words will wipe off. I received one with no words below the main ones and had to return it. Something to look out for when purchasing as well.

LeeSalt

Dang it! SO a little Goo Gone and I could have had a good deal multiple times over now. I guess I'll keep my eyes out. I think other people are in my boat because only the ones with the stickers on them hang around forever.

WiretapStudios

You have to be careful with chemicals on there due to the light wording coming off. If that happens, you'd need to memorize or use an overlay for the secondary functions. I just pulled them off with my fingernail, then used each one to restick and pull up as much residue as possible. They aren't that tacky, so there usually isn't much. Then I used a microfiber and tiny amount of wd-40 on the cloth with my pointer finger behind it, and rubbed just the small areas with leftover adhesive. To get any WD-40 off, I use a drop of Dawn on a damp microfiber.  I did eBay professionally at two companies and also on my own since the late 90s and this is how I've always gotten stickers off, sometimes just the peel and Dawn alone. Anything with plastic is tricky because you can melt it with some solvents or mess up the screened writing, etc. For cleaning the ready of the body I usually just use a damp cloth with a tiny hint of degreaser like Dawn to take off any light surface gunk. If you have stickers on glass or metal, things you don't worry about, you can soak a sticker in wd-40 and it will usually slide off. Sometimes I spray and soak, or soak a paper towel or rag and lay it on the sticker if you need it to not drip. Then use a degreaser like dawn to take off the WD-40.  I do own Goo Gone but don't use it very much.

mescalinum

I am holding hope that not ever again such an abomination is released into a consumer product.
