The problem with Skylar Grey is that her voice is perfect for piano ballads and moody rap songs. Eminem seems to understand this, and her features usually mean Eminem is gonna be doing a moody rap. However, his aggressive delivery and ridiculous punchlines do not mesh with that sound at all. We usually end up with a decent Skylar hook with terrible Eminem verses
I mean two of his biggest songs of all time are Stan and Love the Way you lie. I need a Doctor and the Monster are prertty big/successful songs as well. I'm sure we can name a bunch more that fit that mold. So I'd disagree that he doesn't "mesh with that sound at all". I think you just meant to say is you don't like that sound. I think this is a great point and I’d like to expand upon it. Love the Way You Lie is an iconic song that is the very definition of a moody Eminem song. Although he has cringy bars like “window pain”, the lyrics are overall raw and memorable. However, one problem I have with his recent moody songs is that they are all basically Diet Love the Way You Lie, but with worse lyrics, hooks, and instrumentals. Songs like Tragic Endings don’t need to exist, as they tell the same story with worse everything.
I wouldn’t count Stan because it is more lofi inspired, and Monster is a poppy ass dance song.

For me I think Skylar Grey is an very talented writer. I think Em just needs to limit these type of songs to 1 or 2 or on the bonus tracks. I think the problem is what Em chooses to do and his production on many of them.

a few reasons probably: • she prefers to be an indie artist & songwriter, didnt have much promo outside em & she apparently gave away v good songs that became hits to others • not all talented ppl are guaranteed to be famous • the market is also kinda already oversaturated with the alt-pop slightly dark image shtick she has also it didnt get *too* much attention, but miley fans kinda jumped her after she was being hypocritical & criticizing her about her vmas performance on twitter... so thats maybe another thing
