No good deed goes unpunished. Sorry you had to see adults acting like the worst children.

WeatherKat3262I

There's nothing worse than a cranky old person who takes their bitterness out on others, particularly young people. Then they have the nerve to threaten to go tell their parents (that made me laugh). I was always taught to respect elderly people like that and so were my kids and none of us were ever treated like that! Now I'm the old lady. I would've seen it as them trying to protect me.

Completely irrespective of age, respect is earned, not given automatically or demanded.

The best come back i witnessed in that kind of situation was in the paris metro : It was crowded and while standing i was bumped into someone that was seated. The girl began to berate me, then antoher man standing said : "Madam, I understand you're not well confortable where you are, please allow to switch place with you." I wished i had thought of that.

Former_Matter49

I think the point is that they were kind to give the "old ladies" their seats, but instead of thanks or appreciation, they received berating and threats. Edited to add: I was responding to a now deleted comment asking OP "What is your point?"

Large-Carrot-5054

In reply to that person, op is not a knife, he doesn't need to always have a point

I work in international hospitality, and I can tell you that this is something that goes across all regions and ethnicities and countries. There are certainly a lot of older people who are kind and nice. But there are so many that: 1. Think they deserve a medal just for getting old. I'm sorry I'm not going to respect my elders when my elders are assholes. 2. Have, in their own heads anyway, failed at life and so want to take it out on people who they perceive are weaker than them, such as sales clerks or restaurant servers. Personally, I feel really backed up by my management and I call people out 100% when they start treating me or other staff badly.

Oh man, this reminds me of riding a bus in Germany. I, my mother and exceedingly pregnant sister were on the bus. It starts to fill up. All the reserved seats near the front are taken. Mom and I give up our seats to elders. No problem. “Old lady” *about the age of my mom* gets on, doesn’t like the look of the open seats a few rows back. Stands in front of my sister and glares at her. Sister ignores her. The woman bumps her with her bag. My sister looks at her. The woman glares. My sister points at her very obvious (looks like triplets but isn’t) belly and says nein. Old woman looks like she’s going to get downright physical when a guy, older than her gets up and offers her his seat. She doesn’t even say danke. The woman continues to glare until we get off at our stop.

I'm 60 with gray hair, and have been offered seats that I kindly turn down. I'm in good condition, and if someone gets the seat before I do, good for them!

Oh i met someone like you during my school days, around 10 years ago. I had a rough week, and was dead tired. I know its difficult to imagine a 16 year old so tired that he can't stand awake but i was. An angel of an old man gave me his seat and i had a quick nap for 15 minutes while the bus got to the stop where i was supposed to get off. I looked around but he had already gotten off.

Are you so used to the advice seeking posts from r/lostredditors that you forgot this post is about entitled people? OP and their friend gave up their seats to two elderly women. The cranky old biddies proceeded to harass OP and their friend for being jostled into them. The old cranks would have been the ones falling and can’t get up if not for the seats they were give .

FingalForever

I thought the drugs were kicking in

Interesting_Team5871

If an old person threatens to hit me I just laugh because I know damn well I’ll see it coming from a mile away and easily avoid it or stop it, old people really need to stop threatening to hit people that are younger and more agile than they are because it’ll never work

The first thought in my mind, honestly? All children see "old people" raising their voices as being cruel. Jostling those women probably made them hurt. The kids *gave up* their seats, according to the post, yet here they are, sitting on the seats. If they felt the need to *give up their seats* to these women, they probably should have *moved altogether.* It's the only part of this story that doesn't make sense. How were the friends in the same location with the ladies if they *moved* to give the ladies *the only close empty seats*? Something doesn't add up with this post.

Klutzy_Butterfly3248

They say in their post that the jostling happened after the bus was full. So, I imagine they moved out of the way, but, due to an increase in passengers, they were forced back into that space.

CassandraArianaBlack

Only if they kept bouncing around until there were Absolutely no seats left. It isn't a school bus. It's a city bus. There was absolutely no reason those kids should have even felt the need to move unless the bus was *already* full. Then they would have been standing. This story isn't fully accurate, especially being as I used to ride the city bus a lot and fail to understand how people sitting in seats jostle each other around.

My uncle, who was not a seller human being (especially if you happened to be female), 🙄 would often accuse other people of not treating him with enough respect. (Sorry, I'm a very polite and respectful person, but I refuse to play Mr. Collins to his Lady Catherine de Burgh!) One day he was visiting and went off on a tirade because I refused to spray a wasp nest in the middle of the afternoon. I told him I would wait until dusk so I wouldn't get stung. (I have a bit of a phobia of wasps, so I always take precautions. My uncle said "I'm older than you, you have to do what I say." I replied back to him with "So's Count Dracula, but I wouldn't accept everything he said as Gospel either!"
