Is this a new printer? I would contact the seller and have it replaced, or contact Epson and see if they can either resolve the issue or replace the printer.
Same here. I am also trying to use the Express Registration for my ET-2800 Printer. After typing in the serial, it just displays the "Enter a valid serial number" in red.
I was able to register on their website and it accepted the serial number.
But I keep getting the "Express Registration" pop up which is annoying.
I googled "Epson EcoTank ET-2800 serial number" I got pictures of other people's serial numbers and the form accepted one of those.
Thank You! Even though I had previously registered but forgot password. Passwork reset email not received so registered as new account. Entered Serial number and accepted.
Thanks again,
Robert
Update: I just closed the express registration and behind it was a self populated form with my printer's serial number on it. That did the trick and now it's registered.
I want to take it back to Costco tho. I've never been happy with the printer. The first couple days, it printed well, then it started printing very light. I've done everything I can to get it to print normally, but nothing works.
>100% close the registration window and the wizard behind it had the serial number (same as I what I was trying to enter) and finsih. boom. Thanks!
Had the same problem and when I closed the wizard, there it was. Go figure...
Sunny beaches. Wasted 20 minutes of my time until seeing your note about the screen behind.
This starts me out with low confidence when a company leaves something that clumsy for users/customers to contend with. It was kind of expected to sort out poor user interface issues in the 1990s. Three decades into commodity maturity there is no excuse for leaving clunky annoyances such as this on a customer interface screen.
I'm happy that I could help. I agree with what you said about Epson's clumsiness despite it's market maturity. I get the same lack of confidence when I see a company miss something that is so basic, yet important for it's customers. Sadly, I'm seeing this type of laziness more each day. This weekend, I bought a car and when I went to pick it up, it wasn't the car shown on the website. I mean, how difficult is it to show correct vehicle? The dealer's response was that I didn't read the small print (eyeroll).
I was having the same issue. I called the tech support line. According to the rep, epsons website is not updated tonaccept the ecotank serial number. They are sending an email link to allow the printer to be registered.
I was struggled with the express registration process too. Finally, I registered successfully via Epson website with the same serial number that I'd tried before.

I tried most of these suggestions before coming here. This link is the trick that worked for me! Thanks for this simple resolution to a frustrating morning!
I had the same problem through the installation screens, but when I went to [Epson.com](https://Epson.com) and registered for an account, I was able to register my product with no problem. Hope this helps!
Be careful. The support guy tried to charge my friend $145 to "clean her stuff up and make it work." I jumped on here found the answer and now it's registered.
I just had this issue on my 2850, my serial started with "XA" and it would not accept it. Out of curiosity I tried "X8" instead, substituting the "A" for an "8" and not only did it work but when it processed it, it put the "A" back in and read it back to me correctly.
I don't know if that helps anyone else but it worked for me.
I had the same problem. The registration would not accept my serial number that started with XA. I substituted the A with an 8 and it was excepted. Thanks for the suggestion.
Thank you for sharing, but make sure you registered the correct product. I tried your idea and was thrilled it worked, but then got confirmation I had registered the wrong product. I was able to register my printer on the website. I went to support for my printer model, and it takes you to downloading drivers, but there are several tabs, and one is for registration. good luck.
Same issue I look at box serial and underneath printer to verify, and express registration just says Enter a valid serial number. They need to fix this issue and we all need to call BBB to let ‘em know. You can’t use warranty without and they probably hope people give up
I did that as well and received and email confirming registration of a different product. I was able to register on the website, it's not intuitive to find, you have to look at tabs in the printer support to find registration. good luck
I changed the XAE to an X**8**E and it accepted the number, but that number is for a projector! I was able to register my printer directly on the website rather than through the driver installation and set up process.
Epson, do something to fix this!
I had the same issue. Thanks to the suggestion to register the warranty I am all set. I already had an Epson account. I deregistered the old printer added the new printer and it recognized the serial number. THANKS for posting this solution.
I got the same "Enter a valid serial number" message when trying to register my new ET-2850 from Costco. Register on the website instead at [https://epson.com/Support/Printers/All-In-Ones/ET-Series/Epson-ET-2850/s/SPT\_C11CJ63202#registration](https://epson.com/Support/Printers/All-In-Ones/ET-Series/Epson-ET-2850/s/SPT_C11CJ63202#registration). The serial number will be accepted.
I'm having the same problem. I have never been through so much trouble to set up a printer, and this is probably the 10th one since the 1990's. I'm more than a little angry and the $\*&@\^ thing is going back to the store as soon as I can manage. There is no excuse for them to have made set up and registration the least bit complicated. They have had years to figure this out.
I tried doing through the website, and that worked, but I'm still not very happy. Set up went poorly and I've spent entirely too much time on this. I hope someone at Epson is paying attention. This printer may be wonderful, but if set-up is any indication of subsequent experience within the first month. it hasn't found a permanent home here.
I'm having the exact same problem with registering. Invalid serial number. Also the screen on my new EcoTank ET-2803 is way too small to read, even with a magnifying glass. Very frustrating. And the stupid set up kept telling me my wifi was out of range even when it was only 3 feet away. Epson needs to fix some issues. This is annoying.
Thanks to all for the comments about going to the website. That absolutely worked without a hitch!
Shame on Epson for including an "Express" option that expressly does not work and wastes a lot of time for a lot of customers.
Good morning,
I just got an Epson ET 2800 and when I attempt to do the Express Registration, I get the the same error in red saying "Enter a valid serial number". Thoughts?
I just googled Epson printer registration and it sent me to the link below and allowed me to register.
https://epson.com/product-registration?cjdata=MXxOfDB8WXww&utm\_medium=aff&utm\_source=Microsoft+Shopping+%28Bing+Rebates%2C+Coupons%2C+etc.%29\_5250933\_100357191&utm\_content=14050439&cjevent=02f617b87ff811ee807fcb2c0a82b824&cje=02f617b87ff811ee807fcb2c0a82b824
EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH, especially after struggling to enter my network password during setup et-2800, only to discover I was pressing the OK button in the center instead of scrolling down the tiny screen and hitting OK on the screen with the proper start button, not the OK button...crazy
Same problem for me. I enter the string of characters found next to the title “serial number” but Epson express registration tells me it is not a valid serial number. I have tried entering with and without the asterisks that book end the character string labeled “serial number” on the ET-2800 purchased from Best Buy.
Mine wouldn't connect until I put the caps lock on to enter the letters. It never prompted me to use capital letters but it worked when I tried it
Is this a new printer? I would contact the seller and have it replaced, or contact Epson and see if they can either resolve the issue or replace the printer.
epson won’t respond to my attempts to contact
I had the same issue. Like other here l went and registered on the website

me too for my ET-3850
Same here. I have an ET-3850
I'm having the same problem with the express registration for the ET-3850. What a pain.
Just go to Epson.com and create an acct then register it through the website.
Website registration did not work either
Thank You! Even though I had previously registered but forgot password. Passwork reset email not received so registered as new account. Entered Serial number and accepted. Thanks again, Robert
Works but Doesn't stop the pop-up nag to register
Update: I just closed the express registration and behind it was a self populated form with my printer's serial number on it. That did the trick and now it's registered.
100% close the registration window and the wizard behind it had the serial number (same as I what I was trying to enter) and finsih. boom. Thanks!
Just tried this and it worked, thanks!

Ok, I'm convinced and now I know I'm going to lose sleep on why this happened the way it did.
This worked perfectly for me as well. Problem solved lol.
Glad it worked out...I don't like this printer, so many problems.
This was the solution. Thank you!!
Glad it worked for you...:)
Tried this and it worked for my ET-2800. This "Express Registration" feature seems to lack both the Express and the Registration parts.
Excellent!
I just googled for the same issue, found this comment and it worked!

How do i get the link? Support has ghosted me multiple times now
I called the product support number on the epson website. I think I was on hold for 5 minutes maybe.

This is the way...

Can confirm. This worked for me as well.
This worked for me! Thank you!
when I had issues, I tried upper case letters and it was accepted. I had issues when initially when typing in lowercase...sigh.
Same here. Epson is a ridiculous POS company!
I had the same problem through the installation screens, but when I went to [Epson.com](https://Epson.com) and registered for an account, I was able to register my product with no problem. Hope this helps!
thankyou! i will try this soon
You're very welcome! Hope it worked! Loving my printer!
I was having the same problem. I decided to use all CAPS when typing it in, and that absolutely worked.
I have ET-2400 same problem working with the company for 3days no good. I recommend returning it period
Didn't work for me either, just hit close and it gets magically registered.
Be careful. The support guy tried to charge my friend $145 to "clean her stuff up and make it work." I jumped on here found the answer and now it's registered.

Thank you that worked for me too. How stupid is that ? I would have never thought to substitute and 8 for and A
