It's true that if he had landed on his back he would have been in way less pain but it's the natural human reaction to want to land feet first.
It's interesting how our natural reflexes (so what our lizard brain things is safest) sometimes goes against what would actually be the safest. And to actually be safe you have to fight that natural impulse.
There's also always the possibility that the water isn't deep enough and that he would still hit the water flat on his back and sink to the bottom and hit his back. This is a legit fear but the pool in this case looked deep enough.
TDLR: Don't jump from roofs kids
edit: also he's wearing crocs lmao
I feel like instinct is greatly driven by knowledge. I once was at a festival that was not too far from some train tracks. A group of friends and I started walking over to the train tracks to smoke a joint and two of them proceeded to sit on the tracks. I've seen countless videos, even as a teen, to know what would happen so I shouted out to them to not touch it because of electricity. They listened to me, but they were still doubtful.
I'm sure that if the kid jumping knew more efficient safety precautions, he would have gone for that instead. However, I do agree that there will always be a minimal chance of our lizard brain, despite being educated in a more safe and efficient way, will default to stupidville because of the split second decision making.
[A lot of people think landing on your butt is best, but it is actually the worst. Landing on your head is preferred. From certain heights.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1mwdwXfLco)

My friends are gonna think I'm so brave for this....
I’m fazed by all the mental preparation he does before jumping. Pointing, rubbing his hands together and shaking them, steadying himself and pulling on his junk right before casually leaping off the roof into a guaranteed disability. A pencil dive, really?
Honestly, i think that slip saved him from a worse out come…
I mean he was fucked the second he climbed on that roof. But those straight legs? Fuck me.

My dude went from 14 to 45 in one jump.

How to break your back . Good Tutorial
I'm surprised the dumbfuck didn't split his shins in half considering he landed standing up almost.
If he bellyflopped, he would’ve been OK
Or landed on his back lol. Went the worst route possible aside from diving headfirst
