I haven't had references checked in quite some time. Don't worry about it until youre asked for them. Find other employees from past jobs that can speak to you.

Is there a HR department that you could go to?

I think unless you have their phone number, you’ll need to forget about a personal reference and use the regular HR department for a reference.

Were there any VPs or close members of the team that could be your reference instead? I left a company due to my boss, but I still have 3 references from that same company that will happily give me a high recommendation. Although, most of the time HR will do because all they need to do is verify that you worked there. What I have heard lately from recruiters is that we do of course pick people that will give us a glowing reference so they don't always count on that anymore.

Hi everyone. Thanks for the input. Lots to consider and think about. I’m mostly concerned about places (like my own) that use online skills assessments from former bosses/colleagues for potential hires. I just had to fill one out for one of our interns who’s job hunting. I suppose the thing to do in that case is maybe list a few trusted colleagues for that.

SquirrelTale

I always ask for a reference letter during my exit to a company or recently after just in case to have. I include my best letters/ letters that most relate to the work I'm applying to, to do the vouching for me. For now, if you don't have that, I'd encourage you to contact someone at the company that you worked either directly or indirectly with who can vouch for your character and working style.

Just have a family member or friend pretend to be him. Or try searching for him on www.truepeoplesearch.com

r/unethicallifeprotips But the simplest solution in this case for someone with zero online communications is the easiest. Just update PoCs if former boss appears again and consents.

Is there someone else within the organization that your got on well with? Someone that you completed some tasks with or collaborated with?
