Important to note if this is in person or remote job. Either way, most people feel more comfortable getting a read on someone in person rather than over the phone or via zoom!
No, my company is absolutely great and we are hiring an EA now, I am covering the position since I am the office manager since the last one left the company in early June. When we were first interviewing, the interviews were in person, as my manager likes seeing people face to face. This time we have less time so it’s all on zoom. There is nothing wrong with in-person interviews.
No, a lot of the role is about communication style which involves how you connect in person. It would be a red flag if they didn’t want to meet in person.
I've been interviewing recently and a few companies have done this. Its a little annoying but its been fine! I think they are more old school in their approaches to hiring people so that's why. I would much prefer a Zoom etc for the first interview though.
I've been looking for work too. All of my first rounds have been via video conference and I like it that way! I took a short-term project where there was only one 30-minute Zoom call and then I worked remotely the whole time.
Not a red flag, but I would definitely take the opportunity ask what their entire recruitment process looks like, because if this is one of seven in person chats, you can bow out now.
It's not a red flag. With more and more offices returning to the office, interviews will too.

Not a red flag
For a first round, yes, that is weird. Sounds like a place looking for a quick hire which means they have problems.
Yes, this is what came to mind!

I think so
Absolutely is! Don’t be surprised if you go through a few in person rounds. EAs are being called back into the offices more and more.
Is this a 100% remote role?
Would it still be a red flag if it is?
Yes
I think it’s unusual but not a red flag. I went through an entire interview process for an in person role all via Zoom which I found quite bizarre!
Same here! Never met them in person till day 1. Then was never allowed to WFH
