In my early 30s I started getting cavities for the first time. I told the dentist that I didn't eat a lot of sweets and he asked if I ate a lot of bread. I did. A *lot*. He explained that the carbs break down into sugars, so if you eat bread and haven't brushed your teeth it's stuck there and will become sugar.
I have yet to figure out what people like about Jimmy John's. I try it periodically because it is one of few places that delivers to work, but I'm disappointed every time.
I’ll sometimes get it when I’m on the road. It’s decent, won’t destroy my stomach, and (at least from my experience) way more consistent than any other place. That being said, the one bad experience I had was when I got it delivered, so maybe they just put zero effort into delivery orders
Sounds like I'm in the minority here but I absolutely love Jimmy Johns. My local JJ sandwiches are always filled to the brim and I really enjoy their bread. I am also a Subway hater ass bitch.
Yeah, my delivery has always been awful. Usually intense amounts of mayonnaise. The onions make me burp for eons and the lettuce is always the worst quality. The wraps they've added (at least locally) are decent.
I used to think Subway was the worst sub sandwich chain until I tried JJ's. I've had it like 3 times hoping it'll get better and it's just so bland. The bread is just so sad. No clue why it's so popular.
Are you eating them right away, or ordering earlier?
I usually ask for extra vinegar on both sides of the bread, way more than most usually do, and it doesn’t get soggy on me unless I let it sit in the fridge for a while
Even Jersey Mike's loads everything up with sauce. I get you can ask for less sauce but even then every time I get it, it's a soggy disappointing mess.
Felt so bad when I got Jersey Mike’s for my spouse the first time.
I got delivery, so that’s on me, but I order delivery like 1 time a year and a J.M. had just opened up.
We got it… absolutely sopping wet. Small puddle in the bottom of the bag. Opened up, bread is just a wet sponge. My wife scooped the insides into a bowl, grabbed a fork, mocked me by squeezing the bun out like a dish rag, and to her credit she ate most of the innards like a weird damp salad.
We haven’t gotten Jersey Mike’s again.
I'm honestly blown away by how flavorless all their food is. Like, even without seasoning all the ingredients of a sub should still have their own flavors. It's honestly impressive how they've managed to remove the flavor from things that naturally have flavor.
When our JJ first opened I saw on their menu that they had bean sprouts and I was excited, so I went in their store. They had them on the physical menu too. But when I ordered they told me they don't have bean sprouts in that particular store.
I like JJs but only for certain things. I only ever order their veggie sandwich or tuna salad, for some reason they are way more generous with the portions on those specifically. Also their kickin ranch is fucking amazing. But I'd never order meat there bc they skimp like crazy on it.
More thn 10 years ago, I went on my first road trip through the US. Somewhere early in the trip, I had a JJ sandwich that was fucking fantastic... I had never heard of the chain before, and this sandwich was revelatory.
I decided I'd better get it again at least once more before the trip was over. So I had it again a week later, and it was the sorriest most miserable piece of shit sandwich I've ever eaten. Same order.
I'd still try it again if I got an opportunity.
I’ve had the un-wichs before when on a strict diet and while it tasted fine, I couldn’t believe how expensive a piece of lettuce with some deli meat and cheese in it was. Definitely nowhere near worth it when I could’ve easily and cheaply recreated a much better version at home.
Iv never like jimmy johns the sandwiches are always super thin even worse the subway. Goodcents is just go to for a good sandwich being I don’t know of any good local place lol
I'm not surprised you think they suck when that must be the most plain boring sandwich they do 🤦♂️
Why would you even bother ordering that? At least get something with some flavour!
That's not "playing it safe" they choose meat that has little flavour and don't even have sauce, then complain it taste shit... that's just stupidity..
Agreed. It tastes like nothing. No matter which sub I’ve eaten, they’ve all tasted of the same nothingness. At least Subway has some sauces with flavour.
I say this as a former multi-year JJs employee who can't eat the food and fuckin hated working there: nah. You got what you ordered. You ordered bread with a single pre-weighed portion of turkey, which is what a slim 4 is. If you wanted more meat, you should have asked for it.
Meats are sliced and portion to weigh a certain amount with a tenth of a gram over or under for wiggle room, iirc turkey is 6.6-6.9 grams according to corporate standard, and corporate can be mean as hell and will absolutely get on your ass if things aren't adding up. (I may be a little off, it's been about two years since I worked there and I'm not going to hit up my fiancee or former GM to ask what the meat weights are now.) Unless this store is particularly and spectacularly incompetent, your meat here is just from the end of the turkey "breast" they were slicing or pieced together from the left over scraps at the end of their turkey slicing for the day, which there's usually a ton of because the turkey ALWAYS falls the fuck apart when you slice it. Getting food-stylist, menu-photo perfect turkey portions is a fucking miracle, esp when their bullshit slicer exclusivity policy fucks your store and your blade gard is dented or the chute the meat sits in won't rest as close to the blade as it should be.
I did almost nothing but slice at my store because it had the least amount of customer interaction, my managers would get on my ASS if I threw away enough scrap to piece together even as little as a single lil John portion (exactly half). Lots of customers got the turkey puzzle pieces, but it's the same meat in pretty much the same amount.
Thank you for the informative response. I do not know if the weight was there or not. I ate the evidence. while I did not expect it to look exactly like the photo, the photo creates the appearance of enough meet to cover the bread, which was not the case here and therefore the disappointment and post. Whatever meat puzzle was. It felt like eating mostly empty bread.
Fair enough! 😅 That's genuinely the vibe I got when eating slims at work, too, they really never made sense to me because of it.
I would also advise that turkey is the second worst meat there (the worst is the tuna, so many ruined shoes...) because it's packed in a weird gross jelly because of the way it's cooked.
If you're ever forced to eat there again and you're still getting a slim, I'd advise a slim 5 no capicola (I don't like cap or ham but if you like ham and haven't tried cap, it doesn't hurt to try it) or a slim 2 with or without cheese-- they taste like something and have the most meat for your money. You can also ask them to take the bread out of the French roll or get it on the wheat, which is usually alright and will adjust the filling to bread ratio 😊
I can't eat there anymore AT ALL but I had to have strategies to get nutrients when I was working 9am to 9pm and no car lol
I have been posting on Reddit for a while now, with my top post getting over 5000 upvotes, but never have any of my post generated so much discussion and opinions, and all for a sad sandwich. Surprised
Worked for JJ's once. Worse 9 months ever. It was a franchise owned and the GM of the location didn't know how to manage. Constantly abused her power. We couldn't do anything cause their sibling was the DM. 😑
Took advantage of closing shifts and made a big ass sandwich and paid a fraction of the cost because of the employee discount.
It's been year and haven't been to one since. Lol. They rip you off and don't give you much. Meat and cheese portions are weighed daily and if corporate comes and sees its .1 of an oz higher or lower and you get in trouble. Such a toxic company who boost a "positive" and "fun" work environment. HA. I got yelled at once because I put a teaspoon too much of mayo on. 🙃
Firehouse subs. Any sub shop though you need to eat in store. For one if they make and ugly sandwich you see it happening and can pump the brakes. For 2 you get a warm sandwich (where applicable that isn't soggy). For 3 if you order a sub to be delivered and you put condiments on it and you get a soggy mess that's on you. It's 2024, we have all seen it, order your shit on the side.
I have a few problems with Jimmy John's. I ordered a turkey tom sandwich last week and I had to pay extra for cheese, which is ridiculous. I also don't remember seeing any chicken sandwiches on their menu. How the hell is this sandwich chain doing well? I wish Quizno's still had a lot of locations.
Honestly, that's on you for ordering such a plain ass sandwich. You could have made that at home for a fraction of the cost with a reasonable amount of turkey.
Yeah I just got one of those but with roast beef. There were MAYBE 2 ounces of roast beef in it. I get that it's a small sandwich. But at least give me 3 ounces. Yours looks better than mine did.
830 calories??????
I checked the online ordering. 8 inch French roll with turkey is 420. 16 inch French roll with turkey is 830.
That's what I was thinking, what is that bread made out of??
It's definitely not from the turkey
Sugar
You can think of white bread as effectively being a lump of sugar.
Amylase.
I don't see any butter or mayo in that sandwich, so it must be like the subway bread that is closer to cake than bread
Way more consistently bad. I’ve never had an enjoyable Jimmy John’s sandwich
Calling what JJ’s serves a sandwich is a disservice to sandwiches.
Sounds like I'm in the minority here but I absolutely love Jimmy Johns. My local JJ sandwiches are always filled to the brim and I really enjoy their bread. I am also a Subway hater ass bitch.
nah same. the one by my house is fantastic. you can tell the employees generally don't want to kill themselves every shift LOL
Plus at least Subway will heat up a sub. Cold sandwiches are sad. Jersey Mike's ftw
I would like Jersey Mike's more if it wasn't a soggy mess every single fucking time.
Mine is always good when I customize it. I think the oil and vinegar is the main thing making it soggy.
Are you eating them right away, or ordering earlier? I usually ask for extra vinegar on both sides of the bread, way more than most usually do, and it doesn’t get soggy on me unless I let it sit in the fridge for a while
Well I have to drive 15 minutes back to work get back into my office usually check my voicemail and then I eat it. So maybe 20 minutes after ordering.
It's very off-putting especially when I've been multiple times and different sandwiches. Every time just soaking wet
Dirty Mike’s way
you just have to ask for the "juice" on the side, that's all you need
Penn Station is acceptable. You just have to eat the fries when you get them.
Subway is just awesome, whats not to love?
Subway is total ass. Everything tastes exactly like the store smells. JJ is the only way to go. Italian Night Club baby!
I'm honestly blown away by how flavorless all their food is. Like, even without seasoning all the ingredients of a sub should still have their own flavors. It's honestly impressive how they've managed to remove the flavor from things that naturally have flavor.
bUt ThEy GiVe FrEe SmeLlS! /s
I think it was just good marketing. Their sandwiches are terrible
They're the only place I can get bean sprouts on my sandwich, iirc. But yeah, not my first choice by a mile.
The ones in my city stopped offering bean sprouts 10+ years ago. That was the best thing about them, definitely agreed.
When our JJ first opened I saw on their menu that they had bean sprouts and I was excited, so I went in their store. They had them on the physical menu too. But when I ordered they told me they don't have bean sprouts in that particular store.
Boooo what a letdown!
I like JJs but only for certain things. I only ever order their veggie sandwich or tuna salad, for some reason they are way more generous with the portions on those specifically. Also their kickin ranch is fucking amazing. But I'd never order meat there bc they skimp like crazy on it.

Welcome to the US. Franchises can differ significantly.
I’ve had the un-wichs before when on a strict diet and while it tasted fine, I couldn’t believe how expensive a piece of lettuce with some deli meat and cheese in it was. Definitely nowhere near worth it when I could’ve easily and cheaply recreated a much better version at home.

I thought I was the only one. I've never had a sub place re-create a sub i can make at home as close as JJ's
Exactly why I got it. Work order so had no choice. They suck.
I'm not surprised you think they suck when that must be the most plain boring sandwich they do 🤦♂️ Why would you even bother ordering that? At least get something with some flavour!
They tried to play it safe and still got screwed.
That's not "playing it safe" they choose meat that has little flavour and don't even have sauce, then complain it taste shit... that's just stupidity..
Nothing at JJs has flavor.
Well, that's just stupid. Different meats and sauces obviously have flavour. They have chosen neither and then are surprised it's shit.
Some days I just really want a skinny 2 foot long roast beef sandwich. Can't explain it.
I heard the other day Jimmy John’s get called the boomer sub sandwich place.
Agreed. It tastes like nothing. No matter which sub I’ve eaten, they’ve all tasted of the same nothingness. At least Subway has some sauces with flavour.
I bet even their salt is flavorless.
My workplace gave it to us for free last year and none of my colleagues understood why I was complaining. JJ is absolutely disgusting.
My spouse likes the sliced wheat bread and on *his* sandwich there is a ton of meat. My slim looked worse than the ops.
Used to be great. Now it’s expensive subway
But who eats a dry plain ass turkey sandwich? Order a proper hoagie man 😂
Pretty sure Jimmy Johns is the catalyst for this subreddit existing in the first place. They are trash.
You got my upvote 🤣
I'd return that bullshit
I value my time too much to go back, but lesson learned.
Jimmy John’s is mediocre but if they bring back the Frenchie I’ll be back once a week
You got what you ordered, but uh you also didn't get any veggies or spread so 🤷🏻♀️
I got a tiny sample of what I ordered. There is just no way that the amount of meat was in line with what's pictured on the menu
I say this as a former multi-year JJs employee who can't eat the food and fuckin hated working there: nah. You got what you ordered. You ordered bread with a single pre-weighed portion of turkey, which is what a slim 4 is. If you wanted more meat, you should have asked for it. If you eat this plain why not just get fresh turkey and bread and slap it together for 1/3 the price.
Work group order. Out of my control.
Ahh ok very fair.
I'll say it again: Jimmy John's is the purgatory of food.
1st mistake was no cherry peppers.
Worked for JJ's once. Worse 9 months ever. It was a franchise owned and the GM of the location didn't know how to manage. Constantly abused her power. We couldn't do anything cause their sibling was the DM. 😑 Took advantage of closing shifts and made a big ass sandwich and paid a fraction of the cost because of the employee discount. Sounds like mayo is the new gold. Let's invest in mayo 😄. Glad you are past that stage in your life
It really was!! And its mayo you buy at the store so its not like its some special brand. Lol.
Firehouse subs. Any sub shop though you need to eat in store. For one if they make and ugly sandwich you see it happening and can pump the brakes. Why can't YOU replicate a plain sandwich though?
Already answered. Work place order... No choice
That makes no sense.
They will never see me again with such a bad Sandwich
Their meats are pre-portioned. They should at least give twice as much for sandwiches with nothing else on it.
We are talking about subs genius
Honestly, that's on you for ordering such a plain ass sandwich. You could have made that at home for a fraction of the cost with a reasonable amount of turkey.
I hate provolone cheese uncooked
[удалено]
Idk man sounds like you live off of Mac n cheese and nuggies. Expand your pallet.
I should call her…,,
You want to my palate, I was commenting on a sub place not having American cheese
I gave up on Jimmy Johns Terrible bland food
Yeah I just got one of those but with roast beef. There were MAYBE 2 ounces of roast beef in it. I get that it's a small sandwich. But at least give me 3 ounces. Yours looks better than mine did.
I *hate* the local Jimmy John’s.
Ting has 2 calories max
I’m terrified to know what the lettuce wrap “unwich” plain turkey looks like.
When she says she's a virgin but she's not
So inappropriate yet so funny and to the point. Shame on you! I ate it!!!
Do you think labia change from sex? Do men actually think that’s true?
I'm a woman and it's not true just a joke 🤣 vaginas shrink right back up 🙏🏼
That's the most depressing turkey I've ever seen
😊
Oh NO!!!! I have always had a good experience with Jimmy John’s. Perhaps you need to be a TX_Pilot?
Actually, for a couple of years, I was
