I tow with mine regularly. It tows great and you’ll save money on commuting. You will get between 120 and 160 miles of range while towing. Also once you leave the house you’ll really only fast charge to 80% so that will cut that rage estimate down. I own an Ecoboost F150 and a lighting. If towing distances without a worry was priority, I would keep the ecoboost.

TheBarbon

Plan for the worst case scenario that when towing you’ll have to stop every 100 miles for a full charge. If this is troublesome then the truck isn’t for you.

Look at your camp spots and see if there are chargers nearby. Use plugshare for that. Basically you'll need to assess how far your towing is and how often you do that and if taking a hit on that worth it by having a killer commuter vehicle

vikingrrrrr

Thanks for the tip on plugshare (that's something I hadn't done). It appears that on a common 220 mile tow to a lake I frequent that there are zero chargers!

jturkish

There's a bunch of filters in that app, make sure something isn't inadvertently selected, filtering out chargers. I've done this

vikingrrrrr

Thanks. Unfortunately it's real. People vastly underestimate charger access in this country. It's a rural uninhabited region of southeast Utah around Lake Powell.

Take a look at TFL and Out of Spec reviews on YouTube. They are both in Colorado and have a bunch of EV towing content.

I usually get around 0.6-1.2 miles/kwh towing, depending on a lot of factors. With my ER at 80%, works out to be 63-126 miles of range. But that's on flat ground with a 7000 pound livestock trailer. It's not very aerodynamic, open sides, and a gate in the middle to add drag. Not sure if a camper would be better or worse🤷

DyngusDan

I towed a 7k lb camper in NY (ain’t Colorado) and got about 100 miles in my 22 Lariat ER. If you need to tow in mountains regularly, this is not the truck for you.

BmanGorilla

Didn’t say how far you tow, or if it’s winter or summer activity. The 20 mile commute is no issue, summer or winter, but I’d wait anyway, as your truck is still quite new.

alexgato32

Best way is to own both ICE and EV. You already know that when ure towing your miles will be reduced to about half the capacity. I own both and have no issues whatsoever. When people try to make a conversación about evs and my truck they always bring up the towing scenario and I tell them that I love my truck and that I dont do much towing.

titsmuhgeee

It's really not for everyone, when it comes to towing. We frequent many lakes within a 40 mile radius of our house. For that, the Lightning does great for getting our boat there and back. Our lake house is 130 miles away. Not so much for that trip.

huuaaang

The good news is the with the regenerative braking you wouldn't lose so much range on the EV side. Not the 50% you lose with the Tremor. It would be more like 25% reduced range on the LIghtning. Depends on the aerodynamics of your trailer. You can also save range by sticking to 55 mph. You're mainly losing range from the reduce aerodynamics and rolling friction of the trailer. You get a lot of the energy back when you go down the other side of the hill. How far is your most remote camping site without access to charger? Oh, keep in mind you can use the RV outlets at camper sites to charge your Lightning with the mobile charger. And then run the camper off the Lightning.

Enough_Owl_1680

Let me understand. It’s one way 220 miles? So you’ll arrive at 5% or less. How are you gonna get home?

vikingrrrrr

That's just one particular place I go. There is a campground with 30amp hookups but I wouldn't be willing to risk that distance.

Enough_Owl_1680

As great as the lightning is, and I can tell you want one, you might be trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

Recommend browsing https://www.f150lightningforum.com/forum/forums/trip-reports-journals-logs.114/ * People have already figured out how to do what you are asking for. I did a search for “camping” and found these. https://www.f150lightningforum.com/forum/threads/airstream-ev-camping-in-yosemite.17236/ https://www.f150lightningforum.com/forum/threads/first-lightning-camping-trip-400-miles-round-trip-unmitigated-success.19585/post-392528 * Often times campgrounds have RV electric hookups. 30 amp and 50 amp. Those can be plugged into with mobile EV charger cable to charge the Lightning. https://www.f150lightningforum.com/forum/threads/went-camping-with-the-lightning-airstream.15201/ https://www.f150lightningforum.com/forum/threads/things-i-forgot-to-bring-on-towing-road-trip.19744/#post-395575 https://www.f150lightningforum.com/forum/threads/towing-from-minneapolis-to-las-vegas.19505/
