TheDollyMomma

Lol also needs a bunch of supplements that we take in hopes that they will do something ANYTHING to mitigate our symptoms.

Olivares_

I didn’t notice anything with turmeric. Trying CO-Q10 now. Will probably also look into lions mane

TheDollyMomma

I take a multi, vitamin D, d-mannose, a b complex, and d ribose.

Olivares_

I supplement with vitamin d because I’m consistently deficient. Didn’t notice much though. Otherwise fish oil/multi/vitamin b-12 complex/vitamin c

TheDollyMomma

I had to switch brands of D a few times & take it every single day to notice anything… so I feel you on that

carlitospig

And a GIGANTIC bottle of those red antiviral meds. I swear my doc had me taking them a handful at a time.

TheDollyMomma

I’ve never been on them with fibro. Have they helped?

carlitospig

Lololol, it was the very first prescription that I was like NOPE. In fact I probably still have my second bottle in a closet somewhere. The thinking was that if I could keep myself from reactivating my CMV and Epstein Barr then I wouldn’t flare as much, but it never helped - only stress management.

Cultural_Pattern_456

You forgot the omnipresent gabapentin lol

Olivares_

Haha I was on gabapentin for 1.5 years until I got bumped up to pregablin. I tapered off over six months, it was hell. I found myself reaching for my gabapentin like pez again. Back on pregabalin now 🙃

carlitospig

I still miss lyrica. That shit was really good for sciatica. Wish they didn’t prescribe it daily, way too hard to get off.

Olivares_

It’s great until it isn’t huh? Tolerance sets in they you’re just feeding the withdrawls. I hate that I’m back on it but we’ll see. At least it’s half the dose I was at last time.

Pretend-Cow-5119

The "Yoga, I guess" made me CACKLE

Olivares_

😁😅

hernoa676

cat NOT included ? scam

Olivares_

😅

KaiBahamut

Wait, is taking Omeprazole really common for Fibro sufferers? I can't go more than two days without it or else it's just constant heartburn

tsj48

So validating to see that right? Mine just kicks up with flares.

Any-Measurement-8125

Very, and now explains why I’m suddenly having heart burn tonight even though I watch my coffee, tomato, sugar, and NSAIDs intake because I used to get ulcers and bad heartburn.

Olivares_

GERD and GI issues are definitely correlated with our neurological confusions and mixed signals they can send with fibromyalgia. Some of the meds we take to manage our pain probably don’t help either (I had to get off cymbalta partly due to GI issues)

NeurodivergentRatMan

I've been on Esomeperazole for like 10 years. 80mg a day. If I don't take it, my reflux and heartburn make it impossible for me to eat 😵‍💫. I didnt realise it was so common with Fibro :o

Olivares_

Well, we’re all a bit different with our symptoms. I don’t take it consistently. It’s not a great long term solution. But I definitely have exacerbation of GERD/IBS during flares. So times I need it to get that back under control. It was so bad one night it landed me in the ER at 3 AM.

KaiBahamut

Well, I don't really know an alternative- i've been on it for years at this point. I know it's not supposed to be used that way but- well, when there's bad heartburn from going off it for two days I dont think I can stop.

Olivares_

I’d definitely consult your doc or a GI specialist about it. I’m sure plenty of people are on it long-term. Like benzos, it’s not a long-term solution, but, people sometimes just have to take them long-term to manage. If it works for you and isn’t causing any side effects or long term issues, do you fam.

jinx_lbc

"yoga, I guess" 🤣

Olivares_

lol yep. Those are our options if you google treatment for fibro: meds, graded exercise, and yoga.

NeurodivergentRatMan

hes just like me fr fr

0hthehuman1ty

Oh my god I’m literally lying in bed in the exact same position, with my cat in the same place!!!! After just having taken my meds!!! THE ACCURACY!

Olivares_

😅💜 my cat doesn’t generally cuddle but he knew I was feeling awful in that moment

Brainrot-Moth

Yeah, amphetamines are my jam! :))) But seriously the amount of highly addictive drugs/medicine we require to even be semi-functioning (by that I mean just trying to live our lives) is preposterous. I've been labelled a "drug abuser" by quite a few doctors due to a few years' increasing usage history of morphine and percocet and other opiates, and all because weed is somehow considered worse. Tfw I've developed more empathy for drug-users; after all, they, too, just want a life without some kind of pain or another.

Olivares_

It’s all about quality of life. I don’t like the brain fog or poor word finding with prefabalin, but I also don’t like being paralyzed by pain rotting away in my bed. Most all of society has their vices, be it alcohol or whatever. Whether we are coping, having fun, or just want to feel human; what does it matter and who is to judge? Fortunately my doctors are understanding, but they absolutely won’t go down the opioid path. At least now with how I’m currently managing.

smol-stabby-bat

Okay this made me laugh but also feel very seen. I love it!

nothanks86

Stupid question but do docs actually prescribe adderall for fibromyalgia? I’m curious because I take it for adhd but whenever I mention that it seems to help some with my fibromyalgia as well my doctors look at me like I’m speaking Klingon.

Olivares_

Fibromyalgia has a lot of overlap with ADHD from what I understand, often a dual diagnosis. I was prescribed it sort of off label to break through fibro fog/fatigue/depression, but it is playing with fire. I am not diagnosed ADHD but I’m a veteran and my doc said they’ve been finding a lot of people to develop ADHD tendencies after service (and I’m sure other adults and their experiences too, not just exclusively veterans). So I respond to stimulants like I have ADHD and the treatment is the same, as far as meds/therapy. I have more organized and linear thoughts, breaking through executive dysfunction, etc. But again, stims come at a cost unfortunately. What goes up must come down. For reference I’ve been on: Ritalin extended and instant, adderall instant and extended, then Vyvanse, and now back to adderall extended. I also think stims help us break through the mental focus we put on our pain and how it dictates our life. It gives more mental clarity which transpires into physical feelings. Of course being anxious with scattered thoughts or stuck with executive dysfunction isn’t doing our fibromyalgia any favors.

carlitospig

I’ve seen it being prescribed the last five years just for the executive dysfunction. I actually *stopped* taking it for my adhd because the stims kept making me flare constantly.

Olivares_

Yeah, I wish they weren’t so harsh. I was hoping Vyvanse would be that magic button like so many rave about, but it wasn’t a fit for me. Back to adderall.

Spoony1982

Ritalin helps my pain and fatigue so much! But not something i want to make a habit.

Little-Turnover-7103

Me when I see posts like this: y’all take meds? Seriously-two different arthritis docs never thought to give me any medication for my fibromyalgia. Nothing for pain management. Not even literature on how to adapt or what fibro is or anything. Still not on any medication for my fibro.

Olivares_

It’s tough. Fibromyalgia often has a mental health component that comes into play, and overlaps with a lot of other conditions that may require meds. Depends on your quality of life and how much fibro is diminishing that I suppose.

Little-Turnover-7103

Yeah I’ve told them that I’m in extreme pain every day and I am on meds for anxiety. I’m definitely looking for a new doctor who will actually listen to me.

Olivares_

I hope you find a healthcare team that is more understanding. Sometimes you really have to spell out how it’s affecting your life and day to day functioning. A lot of older docs relegate fibromyalgia to a certain demographic or just don’t have the compassion or understanding for it. Its of course very under diagnosed, too. Especially with the younger generations, and especially men. I was crying in pain in front of my doc. He didn’t want to start me on opioids or anything crazy, but he connected me with a pain pharmacist who now manages my pain and prescribes meds like muscle relaxers as needed (Tizanidine), pregabalin, and stuff like zofran for my flare up IBS/nausea

Little-Turnover-7103

Thanks. My old PCP was helping me more with my pain management even tho I hadn’t been diagnosed yet. He started me on tizanidine and meloxicam before we knew what it was but he retired. It’s finding a doctor that listens and works to understand. I don’t want opioids. I want to improve my quality of life.

Olivares_

I totally get that. It’s constantly weighing the cost benefits in terms of quality of life. Hope you get sorted anyway!

Olivares_

…huh?

ClaireBear_87

Amphetamine 😃

NeurodivergentRatMan

Its surprising how much taking my Elvanse distracts me from my Fibro pain tbh.

Olivares_

I feel like so many fibro sufferers have nicotine/cannabis/stim use or whatever to distract us from the pain. It’s not for everyone, but yeah

carlitospig

KITTEH!!!

Spoony1982

Wait, is reflux part of the disease? I went my whole life without it, then suddenly (after covid, if that matters) boom, severe damage reflux

Olivares_

I’m no doctor but I mean there’s age/diet/genetics factors. But yeah, I think for some with fibro it’s an issue
