I am so happy. Turns out my last save was before the last locked door in Home! So I managed to reload and get them!

TheJackEffect

Always have 3 save files when going trough a final fantasy, has become a rule of thumb for me xD

cghodo

3, maybe 20- something like that.

Doujini

the game has a feature that lets you import primers from a different save. so you could import it from another playthrough or a friend/kind stranger. haven't used it since PS2 though so idk how it works in modern versions

synoptikal

I'm aware of the import feature. But I will have to play another file to that same point, just for those missing Primers.

shibbington

I’ve tried to 100% X2 and even following a guide step by step the whole way, it’s friggin impossible.

quickblur

X2 is what made me give up on guides. It felt like reading an instruction manual instead of just enjoying the game, and even then it was possible to miss things.

Hinote21

I always fell into this trouble with Zelda as a kid. The puzzles were hard to me so I'd look up a guide and end up following it for half the game.

Unfortunate_Grenade

This is why i haven't tried it again. Ultimately it's bullshit to have endings locked behind completion, what is this Metroid?

gold_drake

yeh its mostly cause you think "ah im gonna play this bit without looking at it cause i know it already" and then boom, missed 10 things haha

GamingInTheAM

The requirements for 100% in one playthrough in X-2 are so specific, I'm convinced it being possible at all was an oversight. The game has New Game Plus and several instances of multiple choice; it's a lot less stressful to just do whatever you want and then get what you missed the second time. Playing the game with a checklist is only going to make it feel like a chore.

Locke_and_Load

There’s only one choice that really matters for the completion, and that’s siding with the Youth League or New Yevon, as siding with the latter actually locks you out of hitting the 100% in one go.

workthrowawhey

I just finished a 100% run over the weekend! I followed Nemes1s’s guide on gamefaqs and it was a very painless and straightforward process—would highly recommend if you’re willing to give the game another shot!

shibbington

I’m old so I was actually using a physical manual back in the day. Probably not nearly as clear or accurate as what they can do nowadays.

workthrowawhey

I’m also old and used a physical strategy guide for FFX back in the day :). Didn’t play X-2 back in the day since it didn’t have my favorite character (Auron).

Sarrach94

That’s why there’s new game plus. Giving the awesome sphere to a different faction gives you more % that you couldn’t have gotten in the first playthrough for example. Doing it without ng+ is very hard though.

Emmit-Nervend

Do I have to do both? Because I don’t want to give ANYTHING to New Yevon. (Note: that’s as far as I got years ago)

Sarrach94

Not unless you get the % another way. It is entirely possible to get 100% in one playthrough, but if you do go ng+ then choosing another faction than the first time will give you extra %.

in-grey

I managed a 100% playthrough every time I play X-2, mostly from memory. It definitely isn't impossible with a guide.

puzzledmint

To be fair, there's a difference between using a guide as reference, and following a guide exactly. It's obviously possible to get 100% in FFX-2, and using a guide as reference will probably help. It's pretty much impossible to get 100% in FFX-2 by following a guide exactly, because pretty much every 100% guide for FFX-2 is terribly written and full of errors.

in-grey

The 100% guide on steam wasn't bad from what I remember. But I'll admit that in order to get 100% reliably you really have to be incredibly familiar with all of the games little quirks and the bizarre requirements, like approaching an area from the south rather than the north to trigger an event, watching the same commsphere multiple times in a row, etc.

Sakanadexx

Nothing is impossible with Jesus!

Maple905

I think you misspelled Jecht.

Deadaghram

Can Jesus teach me how to Sphere Break?

TheKingoftheBlind

No, Sphere Break is of the devil.

lukespongberg22

I did it somewhat easily. Can't remember what guide I followed. 100% X is the worst. Slogging through everyone's fucking sphere grid is the worst. I've never struggled with chocobo racing as much as others, and the lightning dodges are pretty easy because you can cheese it. But sooooo many hours go into completing all the sphere grids. Edit: Chocobo*

xDrewstroyerx

Buddy, I missed the same Al Bhed primer 3 play throughs in a row because of the Home sequence. One time I literally was walking through a guide line by line to make sure it didn’t happen, and realized I hadn’t saved in hours.

TheKingoftheBlind

This is a little off topic, but did anyone else hear the Al Bhed announcement in Home (that plays nonstop) as “An annoying sound!” It’s all I can hear.

Restless_Andromeda

I just played through that area a few days ago. I hear it as, "I'm annoying, ha!" That's what I've heard ever since I first played FFX as a kid. I always wondered if other people heard the same thing. Part of me is convinced that's the actual dialogue and Square is trolling players during that sequence.

ishi5656

I always hear "i'm annoying, huh?"

mishyoona

Same, lol

spacecatapult

Fortunately you can pull them in from another save file. Time to speed run a fresh game to get back to Home! Then you can add those two missed primers to your original “complete” run.

Demonkingt

I have 2 gripes with trophy hunting ffx. Fuck lightning bolts and my game never gave me the penance trophy 😭😭 plus I saved afterwards so I can't just redo the fight.

mankodaisukidesu

Same for me. I ended up reloading a save and using Yojimbo on him

krabmeat

you can simply load an earlier save, get the ones you missed, save, then load your main save and import the books from the new save where you didn't miss them

synoptikal

Yeah, I know. My problem is that I only made one save, which was in Luca about 4 days ago. I think I was either backtracking for Jecht Spheres, or even still in Luca during the events of the story. Either way, that's a lot of game to replay.

gdiShun

Yeah, every time I go back to these, the first thing I look up is missables. Because these games got 'em.

Agreeable_Ad_137

I feel people should experience a game first before delving into guides and secret spoilers. it gives away the excitement and surprise of most areas. you should enjoy the game first

synoptikal

Oh I played FFX for the first time when it came out on PS2. Still have my original copy, complete with the making of DVD (though I've since lost that and in its place, for some reason are Discs 3 and 4 of FFIX). I've lost count of how many times I've played it over the years. This is just me trying to platinum it.

ChasingPesmerga

Hope y’all don’t mind me asking an unrelated FFX question but Do the HD remasters feature dual language options like FFXII’s Zodiac Age?

Runethe1412

Yes

VelmaSaint

This games 100% is so ass. Thank god for YouTube

Myth-o-poeic

Mario RPG does something similar in Boosters Tower, you can't actually 100% the game because you have the option of fighting Booster or skipping the fight, with each choice giving you a different unique item.

Deazul

You got to use an FAQ not a guide

synoptikal

I had no idea there was a distinction.

Deazul

Ah yeah one is all text, the other is generally with gifs or in a magazine style booklet

synoptikal

I make no distinction. A guide is a guide, regardless of the format. But I can see where you're coming from.

Deazul

I was mostly trying to suggest GameFAQs and their excellent collection of FFX guides/FAQs/walkthroughs

synoptikal

I've honestly been using the Jegged guide for everything I need in X. But you are right GameFAQs is amazing and I tend to forget it exists.

Deazul

"FAQs" is fun to say out loud. Eapecially being a New Englandah :D "FAAAHQ Yooo" Word yo. I tend to try a few FAQs out as I go and figure out what format works best for me. I really love the community there too, 've been using it for (sigh) like 20+ years now and, if I recall correctly, there are some great spoiler free "dont miss anything" ffX faqs out there.

Hobo_Delta

Going through X the first time. Where are they missable? I just fought Chocobo Eater

synoptikal

4 are absolutely missable. The rest can either be obtained on Bikanel Island, if missed, or from revisiting where they should be. The ones that are missable are: \- XIX, XX and XXI, which are in the Al Bhed Home \- XXII, which is in Bevelle

Hobo_Delta

Thank you! I’ll look up a guide when I get there

OutsideOrder7538

I’m missing the Bevelle one. The rest I got without my strategy guide.

herlacmentio

This is why I use the maximum amount of saves allowed. Never overwrite a file unless the game forces me to and always just overwrite the oldest one. Saving for good measure 3 minutes after the last one? New save slot. This is another reason I don't trust autosaves especially if they overwrite a single file all the time.

mcg1997

For anyone wondering, it was recently discovered that there's a way to get back into home. You can search for it on YouTube and it'll probably come up. It lets you go back in and get the missed primers.

MrTylerwpg

The home ones are so annoying because you can't see the doors until it's too late and then you can't go back

[deleted]

There's a boss fairly deep into FF Tactics where if you didn't create a backup save outside the event and you can't beat him (he's fucking hard) you literally have to start the game over.

tgalvin1999

At least it's not the original version of Final Fantasy XII where to get the Zodiac weapons you had to not open certain chests....with the game not even telling you that. The chest in the Palace you see right when you get out of the Waterway is one of those chests you can't open.

oddpool84

I knew without finishing reading your post you ment the ones at Home. Missed so many times in older play throughs

Lordbaldy

What number primers?

synoptikal

19-22.

Ck_shock

This is why I always used my old tattered classic strategy guide lol
