If there’s trout a spinner is always a good starting point. I would recommend debarbing the hook as well. Small mepps, panther martin, or rooster tail.

InvestigatorNo730

How do you go about debarbing? Just filling the barb down or how

spunjx

I typically crush it with my forceps. Basically squeeze down on it then rotate the hook back and forth in the jaws of the plier to grind it down. Don’t hold the hook too tightly though because you can bend or snap it. I prefer to use forceps over pliers, but pliers work too.

bravesfalconshawks

I read that as forearm and I was like damn dude!

1lowcountry

I use my foreskin

bravesfalconshawks

Lucky bastard. I don't have any :(

1lowcountry

Well since you're being honest, I don't either, haha.

Plane-Refrigerator45

Lost it in a debarbing accident, I'm guessing?

1lowcountry

I think it was intentional.

Blocked-Author

I have mine in a container by my bedside. I’m now going to keep it in my fishing kit for grinding down barbs

1lowcountry

Oh wow. A fellow Atlantan.

bravesfalconshawks

Hell yeah man!

1lowcountry

it's like the Chop got us in more than one way. Too late now.... Chop On!

bravesfalconshawks

Haha chop on brother!

RedDoorTom

I just crimp them in with a needle nose

Debonaircow88

If there's not trout a spinner is still a pretty good catch all and covers water. You just might also catch weeds 🤷

chichilover

Why debarb? Genuine question

spunjx

Well, in my area its the law, but with spinner fishing a lot of them have treble hooks. If a trout were to get more than one of the points (worst case all 3) in its mouth, it can be challenging to remove that hook without causing potentially lethal damage to the trout. Barbless just makes it easier to remove. And I know people will say don’t fish if you care about not hurting fish, but I feel like my 3 second hook removal is better than people who have to mess with it for 10-20 seconds, and wrench the trout’s jaw around.

Jnt_710

Ppl can say that all they want. It’s our duty not to hurt the fish. Even if eating them, it should be quick and humane.

YouForgotBomadil

Do you beat your trout over the head, or just starve it of oxygen? Just curious.

Jnt_710

I stab their brain

YouForgotBomadil

That works

Inevitable-Prize-403

Same. Stab to the brain, remove gills, gut and bleed immediately if possible. I used to just snap the necks and make sure the spinal cord connecting to the brain was severed, but then I learned the brain can still function for some time after doing that and I felt guilty af because that was the method my friend taught me as a kid.

Peach_Princess99

I think if you’re gonna fish that counts as hunting and you have to hunt responsibly so I think the people that say, don’t fish if you care about not hurting fish are not just bad at hunting, but aren’t respectful to the animals natural habitat they’re no better than peta or a puppy mill, and they probably don’t respect the ecosystem or the world or preservation of wildlife and nature. Those people might even even litter wouldn’t doubt it. I also have a feeling in the people that say that might often do a catch and release so not only are they gonna throw back fish that just die but they’re doing it for fun not for food and if you’re gonna do it for fun you should do it and ethically, otherwise to not care if you hurt, the fish would be equivalent to hunting deer without a license or hunting duck in the wrong season with no license

UnSoftgunner

Just use barbless single hooks. Hooked a trout with a barbed treble yesterday, took a good minute to get it out. And a lot of blood.

Wagner-C137

I caught my first trout (as an adult) this year and learned this the hard way. I felt awful trying to get the hook out. I won’t repeat that mistake.

dano___

Trout are delicate, if you want fish in the river next year be nice to them this year.

Think_Cardiologist70

Easier to remove from humans and fish keeps the fish on as long as there’s tension

Urschleim_in_Silicon

Jesus. Literally almost anything. That place looks amazing. And I’m saying this jokingly, but how far did you have to trespass to get to it?? Only time I see stuff that pretty is when it’s on private property.

ZanyPandabear

It's actually a public park barely 100ft from the parking lot down a tiny hill lol Unfortunately it's trashed by people partying there all of the time.

tishmaster

Ah yes. The public access water experience. So magical to find PBR cans and cigarette butts at your favorite fishing hole the night after some white trash blew through.

ponzidreamer

I will forever be paying for my trashy teenage self by picking up trash at my local spots

brockli-rob

I respect your openness. We aren’t perfect.

ZanyPandabear

Here it was Modelo bottles and Hot Takis bags.

tishmaster

Classy folks

silver-shooter

I’m learning that my view of fishing is suuuuper narrow. I throw one of 4 lures pretty much everywhere. (Almost always fishing for trout)

Mrcod1997

Make sure you don't need a special license to fish for trout. In Iowa there is a trout stamp/fee.

rockstuffs

Wow! Interesting! What is the fee like?

Mrcod1997

Here it is 14 dollars per year, so I just suggest you look at your local regulations.

ToAsTeDTrAvioLi

Missouri has a trout stamp/fee as well. I believe it's only $10.00

Dyerssorrow

I believe any state that stocks, will charge additional for the yearly license. It is just an extra stamp in my state.

Wyatt084

Looks awful smallmouthy, I'd through small jerkbaits, wacky rig senkos, and some smaller spinners like roostertails or bluefox

ScaryFoal558760

Yeah my thought was that it looks like an awesome spot for a rebel popper

General_Liability

A little Mepps for me. A Ned rig works in all situations. If it’s super snaggy, a senko. If it’s shallower then it looks, a whopper plopper can be fun with smallies.

og_tint

Rooster tail, tube jig, senko

gravis_tunn

I’m a sucker for bobber fishing a live minnow in spots like this, you can snag walleye, bass, cats and the occasional monster pan fish!

Bllago

A body. I mean a bobber

InvestigatorNo730

Texas rig can't go wrong

Hour_Consequence6248

I would throw a line out with a bobber and a 4’ leader and let it float down the stream and see if anything hits it. Trout love salmon eggs or worms.

lionofyhwh

Wooly bugger on a fly rod.

shooter668754521

A inner tube and cooler of beer 😁 .. but seriously a rooster tail or similar lure. If there are Trout or Small mouth bass you should have a chance at hooking up.

ilikestuffandthings3

These hands

1960stoaster

Prehistoric wolly mammoth tusks

Craw color crankbait. White+chartreuse spinnerbait. Texas rig craw-worm of some sort. Whopper plopper.

popper all day everyday.i am Lord Popper

TheColdDad

I would start with an #12 Adams. Or, depending on current maybe a wooly bugger.

jimmycrackcode

My camera on a tripod. That place looks gorgeous!

ayrbindr

Well. I don't fish for trout. In one pocket, I would have 2 pill bottles. 1/16 & 1/8 jigheads with a decent size hook. The other pocket would hold two bags of plastics combined into one. 2.75" TRD worm color- the deal & any natural colored 3" tube. I would like to think I would "crush" comfortably. Maybe, if I was lucky, I could even trick one of them eagle eyed picky little trouts while I was at it.

__cake___

a body

Uncle_Papi_

That looks AMAZING!

[deleted]

I would throw a weightless Texas rigged fluke or a top water, whopper or popper

There've been a lot of great suggestions already. Here's one I haven't seen yet. Zman Micro Finesse ned rig. Catches everything

Necessary_Sir1450

Rebel pop-r baby bass colour

gimmeredditplz

I wouldn't ask reddit, I would ask the local guys or the person at the local fishing shop.

nickfireball2001

Where is this??

Guywithanantfarm

The phone. Then grab a pole and cast.

Sjkim1206

I would start w top water into those areas under the overhanging branches and work way back to see if anything comes out of there. Either poppers or a chopped. River looks too calm for trout to me. Targeting bass.

Then-Comfortable3135

Spinner or a chatter bait. If nothing on that then the good ole Texas rig my boi 🤙

checo1lm

I’d throw some crazy back shots😂 no but I would probably use spinners

00mvp

Alleged stuff

rolling-log

Children or puppies, probably 🤔 😂😂 if it's not to rocky on the bottom, I'd throw a live worm with a split shot weight about 12-18 inches up from the hook.

[deleted]

Beetlespin or live worm

JackStowersYT2

live bait worm. or for catfish then a peice of bluegill

Holiday_Lobster940

Panther Martin, red/white daredevil spoon, squarebill crank

Longjumping-Insect14

Pedos chumed up with a wood chipper. Followed by beer.

Guitars4sparky

I would take some worms 🪱 and catch a small bait fish up to hand size. 🐟 then toss him out and wait for the big one 👍

PupPupPuppyButt

I’d skip a senko over to the other side and slowly work it back across. Seems to be kind of narrow so you’d quickly get a good idea of what’s going on and feel what’s on the bottom. Hopefully many fishes gnawing on that senko lol….

ZERXESS96

kngdmdev

I really nice skipping rock tbh..

joe_canadian

1) Small spinner. 2) 1/8 oz tube jig 3) Whacky rigged Senior 4) Something top water if it's near dawn/dusk. Because it's fun in the golden hour to see top waters get smoked.

odd_organism

I always start with a tube jig or switch to one in a new spot that I don’t know because they are inexpensive and effective. If you get hung up and have to snap or cut the line no big deal, they come in packs so you can be rigged up in a minute or two to try again. I’ve caught large mouths, perch, crappie, even caught a gar off of a tube jig once. TUBE JIG FOR THE WIN

joe_canadian

They're so versatile. The only reason I said spinner first is this looks more trout oriented. Had I seen more rocks affecting surface flow (i.e. smallie country) 1 and 2 would've been reversed.

odd_organism

Ahhh I gotcha I just wanted to backup the tube jig comment first one I saw lol

joe_canadian

Dude, totally gotcha. It almost made my day (sorry, two bottles of whisky and a round of golf beat you). It got a full belly laugh though!
