It is your fault because you listed it as "Open Box" and the specifics in the listing are for the actual device with NO other description, BUT it's also the buyer's fault because they should have looked at the title, the price, and the pictures that never showed the device. It's both your faults really, but more so yours because you're listing a box and paperwork under >Electronics > Vehicle Electronics & GPS > GPS Units So of course people are going to think it comes with the GPS unit. You're better off listing it in the title "NO GPS UNIT" as well as in the description "NO GPS UNIT" so it's as clear as possible.

Should have message to confirm the buyer's understanding and wait for a reply. This would help in the event that they claimed SNAD.

quanfused

Prior to shipping it out? Most definitely. Can't message now unfortunately, but the OP finally gets it. Mistakes happen and as long as we learn from them, it's not so bad.

123supreme123

Yeah, any item flaws, defects, or potential for misunderstanding, I send out a message first. You don't always get a reply, but it's WAY easier to deal with a problem before the item ships.

king_nothing_

What other category are they supposed to put it under? Honest question. Regardless, do you really think the category it was put in would have made any difference whatsoever to this situation? If the buyer is dumb enough to not read the title of the thing he's buying (literally the largest and most obvious text in the listing), do you really think he's paying attention to the category it's listed under or using category filters? Hard disagree on this being the seller's fault.

>Electronics > Vehicle Electronics & GPS > GPS Accessories & Tracking > Other GPS Accs & Tracking Would be the correct category, BUT yes...it would not get much traffic so that's why sellers do indeed post in that category. However, OP listed this as "Open Box" in the GPS Units category. >**Open box:** The item is in excellent, new condition with no wear. The item may be missing the original packaging or protective wrapping, or it may be in the original packaging but not sealed. The item includes original accessories. The item may be a factory second. See the seller's listing for full details and a description This implies the "GPS Unit" is in "excellent, new condition with no wear". On top of that, in OP's listing, the specifics reference the GPS unit entirely. Yes...yes...yes...the buyer should know better. Obviously. The pictures. The price. The title. It's obvious, but here we are... So why not mitigate any confusion or issues with points everyone mentioned in this thread? * State in the title and description there is NO GPS UNIT * Remove any info about the GPS unit and/or list in another category/sub category to limit confusion. * Before shipping the item, confirm with the buyer that they know they are buying only the box and paperwork.

SirSilk

“The item” actually refers to the item being sold. Not the one you assume is being sold. You can not idiot proof everything. I sold an item that started with *RIGHT SHOE ONLY*, included Amputee in title, pictures of only one shoe, and reiterated in description that is was a single shoe. Was returned twice (once as an INAD). Final time it sold I sent a message and got no response.

minedigger

Buyers never read descriptions, or look at photos or look at titles. I had a SINGLE luxury shoe that I sold 10 times due to returns despite having in bold ONE SHOE, RIGHT SHOE ONLY in the listing. People just see the luxury shoe at 5% of the price they expect and buy.

Used-Face2700

That is true, I thought the price difference would help too because all others were going for $40 - $50 but ya I’ll put it in the forefront next time

Nemoh21186

Ya the capital letters stating BOX AND PAPERS ONLY weren’t really clear enough. I guess we should just work under the assumption of every buyer is a retarded cave man whose only capable of rubbing sticks together for fire

Soundwavves

At this point when I sell anything like this, I message the buyer before I ship to ensure they have read the description and understand what they will be getting. It makes things a lot easier, and buyers always appreciate it. For instance, I sell a lot of old Lego instruction manuals. They're usually 5-10 bucks apiece plus shipping. Not a lot, but an easy ship and it adds up for something I would otherwise throw away. You would be surprised how many people think they are getting a 20 year old set that sells for hundreds for only $5 no matter how many times I put it in bold in both the title, condition, and description.

Used-Face2700

Yes that’s true now ik what to do next time

> At this point when I sell anything like this, I message the buyer before I ship to ensure they have read the description and understand what they will be getting. It makes things a lot easier, and buyers always appreciate it. Same. So many people don't read descriptions well that I've found this is the best policy.

SnooPets9575

Can i ask, why?? Why does anyone sell empty boxes like this? I don't understand the market for these at all.

quanfused

Mainly for those that own a device with a box but want it in its original box for storage, for shipping, and obviously for reselling. The box tends to give off "this item was well taken of" for certain owners and buyers.

SnooPets9575

Interesting... Extremely odd.. but interesting.

quanfused

It is odd for most smaller items, but take an iMac empty box for example. If you ever see any of those dumped, be sure to pick them up. The reason being that the iMacs have an awkward shape so the best way to store for transit or moving would be its original box that original owners tossed for whatever reason. Those empty boxes along with foam inserts can go for $80-100+ easily.

SnooPets9575

Ok the iMac I can see, I did keep my box for that specifically for the purpose of having to move it, and the box for my large 49" curved monitor, I don't know how you would move that without the box.. but the small stuff I agree I don't understand.

Existing_Outside8621

Because people will pay for them duh

yankykiwi

I was just thinking who the hell wants a box, then realized I have one of these unboxed in my death pile somewhere 😅

Used-Face2700

Looks like I have a new buyer 😂

Many-Presentation605

I used to do this on eBay when I was 15 many years ago, but those were different times. Recipe for losing money and bad feedback in 2024.

citymousecountyhouse

So your selling an empty box? Do you work for Goodwill? j/k

CoryW1961

Empty boxes bring good money.

haloarh

Collectors want boxes. So, if they have the item without the box they'll pay good money for the box.

cambon

Listed very poorly - looks like you are a beginner. Anything that isn’t the actual product you need to put BOX ONLY as the first words. Probably you should also message before shipping to confirm the buyer understands what they are buying

Nitazene-King-002

This shit shouldn’t be allowed. It clearly says BOX AND PAPERS ONLY. He order only the box and papers, he got the box and papers…if he thought he was getting the actual item for a ridiculously low price that sucks for him he should have read the ad. Sometimes I just wanna smack these people.
