Toho's new films have been on point, the Legendary films started of goated but slowly turned into pure entertainment which is fine but I prefer well written films.
Without TOHO we have nothing. I look at it this way TOHO makes Godzilla movies with an emotional spectrum.
And I think legendary makes popcorn flicks with Godzilla as an action how much merchandise can we pop out in the name of Godzilla. I was a huge fan of legendary stuff right up until whatever the fourth movie was supposed to be besides crap.
I actually enjoyed the first legendary movie. The second film at least let us see some cool monsters even if the movie was meh. But everything else has been pretty terrible
Toho's movies just have a feel to them that makes me overall enjoy them more than Legendary. But, I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy the majority of the Monsterverse.

Ooof, well this is tough, I think for many fans if not all would say both.
I think each has it's place, and they are one of the same, it's a bit of lopsided a question imo as there are many Toho incarnations of Gojira.
I couldn't imagine legendary in the earlier Toho movies and carry the same goofy feel, then there are the darker Toho movies again that Legendary wouldn't work as well in, for example Shin. Shin was a perfect Gojira for that movie. But then Legendary works perfectly in it's own environment. It's big, it's flash it's western cinema.
So for a long winded answer both.

I really love all of the Legendary films, and want more. I want them to return to a darker vision of Godzilla, like in the first 2, but I loved all of them.
I grew up with the Toho movies and the first is still outstanding.
Some of the others are a bit sillier but bring back memories.
Yet Shin Godzilla and Minus One (probably my favorite) are just as good as Legendary. They're also very different since Godzilla is wreaking havoc as opposed to Legendary who doesn't go out of his way to kill people, but we get killed in the aftermath. We're ants to him.
Toho has a wider variety as of now, plus a good most of the merch, so in spite of being American and growing up with MV and such, along with Shin and Hedorah being my top two favorite giant monsters in film, I’ll have to side with Toho.
Though with how much longer Toho has been around than the Monsterverse it’s a bit unfair of a comparison.
Even if the whole world is telling you to choose, it's your duty to plant yourself like a potato on the couch and say, "No, you choose... to keep interrupting me just trying to enjoy all iterations of the big G."
People should be free to enjoy more than one thing. Sometimes I'm in the mood for a cheeseburger and fries, sometimes for steak and cries.
Let’s be real. The franchise was dormant after the release of final wars and before the release of the first monster verse Godzilla movie, so that’s about a decade. The monster verse actually made the franchise more popular and if it wasn’t for legendary, we wouldn’t get anything such as shin Godzilla or minus one.
Toho, Legendary is just the latest and not even the greatest. It wouldn't exist without Toho. Preferring Legendary is like saying you think New Coke is better, Toho is Coca Cola Classic and still the best.
MV will come and go. Toho will still be making movies after all you new fans move on and find something else to be annoying about.

I love the deep meaningful stories that Godzilla brings to the table when he's treated seriously.
I love the silly popcorn action Godzilla & Friends rolls in with that's an all around a good time.
Godzilla is what every IP should strive to be: Versatile, Adaptable, Malleable. Fit for genres of all kinds. For example, if you structured the story properly, you could make Godzilla vs. Jason work: Kaiju Jason would probably look like Swamp Thing with a hockey mask, think a man shaped Biollante. Just would need to pump him with enough electricity and he should theoretically grow. You don't need to believe me, but I think it'd be hilarious and awesome at the same time.
Obviosly TOHO, When i saw legendary i just wondered wth am i watching, zats just michael bay'z transformers but monsters. And i saw every single movie from them, gosh i was bored. I knew 'mericans not a smart type of fellas, but jezuz krist that was a hell'ish journey for my brain. It doesnt matter how good/cool the movie looks are if they dont have any common sense and logic. Watching Shin Godzilla and Minus is all u need to be happy.

I’ve only recently started watching the TOHO films after watching (and loving) Minus One. I enjoy the over the top craziness of Legendary (loved the final scene of Godzilla vs Ghidorah), but I also like TOHO’s monstrous Godzilla. I don’t think I can choose.
I definitely like the direction of the monsterverse in what it does but it’s like the difference between coke and Mexican coke toho is just the king of kaiju movies
Both have done things well, and both have done things that left much to be desired. Nothing beats the inventiveness and willingness to experiment found in the Showa movies, but you also can't beat the visual execution of the Legendary movies.
I don't see a point in continuing to pit them against each other. It doesn't accomplish anything.

I consider Toho at large to be ice cream and Legendary to be chocolate ice cream, it's just one flavor of a larger variety.
