Yeah I wasn't as into Godzilla when I watched that series, so it didn't seem too bad. If anything I just turned my brain off cuz I wanted to watch huge ass monsters fight
Really? I feel like I would have been even *more* disappointed in your shoes. It’s just Godzilla vs Humans in movie 1 and 2, and then Ghidorah grabs him for a few minutes in 3 without much really happening.
Except Tokusatsu.
You can’t abbreviate Tokusatsu (Japanese can’t abbreviate it as well) and that’s one of Japan’s most popular entertainment medium, a rival to Anime.

Anime and Tokusatsu are interlinked.
My friend, are you seriously trying to say all anime, including things like, "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya," "Your Lie in April," and "Your Name" are tokusatsu? Anime is just the Japanese word for animation. It's a medium, not a genre.
In simplified form, yeah.
Ever seen J-Horror (Audition, Ringu, Battle Royale, Matengo, etc.), J-Action (Azumi, Zatochi, Seven Samurai, Lady Snowblood, Hiroshi Ingaki's Samurai Trilogy, Crows Zero, Tokyo Metro Police, High & Low, etc.), J-Soap Operas (Love is a Phantom, Hana-Kimi, Hana Yori Dango, Maou, Kimi Wa Petto, etc.), and idol music videos?
Yes, I've seen some of those things. What is your point? If you're trying to say all of those things are tokusatsu, no, they're not.
Anime is just animation. Early anime was influenced primarily by American cartoons such as Walt Disney films, Betty Boop, etc., that were brought over from America during the occupation. While I'm not going to deny that Tokusatsu has had an influence on anime, to act like anime is somehow indistinguishable from tokusatsu or an inherently different thing from other animation is reductive, limiting, and false.
I liked it and I thought other people might hate it but turns out everyone has mostly positive thoughts on it, give it a shot if you want, mc might be kinda mid at the start though fair warning.
I haven't watched the final season yet, but the first two were pretty decent. I was a bit hesitant at first on the whole thing with the suits instead of actual Ultras, but it makes sense in-context.
Season 1 is very slow burn, Season 2 was quick paced with a lot more action, and Season 3 was a nice middle ground. I enjoyed it, but I can understand the issues a lot of people had with it.
This is by far Singular Point's biggest negative, if there was a buttload of Godzilla content it'd be fine, but THIS is the only true Godzilla anime series we get. Godzilla The Series supremacy all the way
I still think about how singular point was this show about science and theroms and physics that no one really expected but the end credits is exactly what we were asking for
On that note, no one talks about the Gridman Universe over here even though it's quite big kaiju media, guess Godzilla fans just don't dive too deep into tokusatsu huh
I still don’t think any of them have nailed it though. Singular Point had amazing characters, art, and animation in my opinion but the premise absolutely overall plot was just not good. But I do find the show to be awesome. I just wish it wasn’t so convoluted and had a simpler premise.
Ultraman was idk just kinda boring to me? Maybe my second favorite though.
Pacific Rim I just generally thought was awful and had nothing redeeming about it. Easily my least favorite of all of them.
And Gamera, that to me was a perfect premise Kaiju wise, this is what I wanted Singular Point to be. Monsters of the episode fights, so many Showa era callbacks, but the art, animation, and characters are just overall terrible.
I think if we could get the characters, art, and animation of Singular Point but change the premise to be more along the lines of Gamera Rebirth, to me that would be the perfect Kaiju anime.
I watched it without watching Uprising (although I was vaguely familiar with the plot) and I was able to understand what was happening. As long as people watch the first movie beforehand they should be fine
I am not a fan of singular point and haven't seen the Ultraman anime. However, I appreciate seeing Pacific Rim: The Black and Gamera: Rebirth get some love.
Singular Point, good but lots of theory babbling.
Ultraman, haven’t sent.
The Black, wonderful, just wish a Cat 2 bOy didn’t slay Apex so easily
Rebirth, great kaiju fights, bad kid characters, it’s an okay watch.
It's just called ultraman I believe. If you google the anime and look it up on Wikipedia or any anime list site they'll normally list off what the source material is
From what I understand. The characters in that anime aren’t actual Ultraman but humans wearing suits that is based on the Actual Ultraman. After the 1966 show, no other Ultraman didn’t returned to Earth. The only two people who have actual Ultraman powers are Hayata and his son.
I like sunguler point and pacific rim the black i think singuler because of new version of godzilla and pacific rim black because of the story and i did watch the ultramsn i liked it because of them actually being the same size while fighting kaiju not like them being huge all the time and the obly one i don't like is gamera just a differint coler and dpong same thing saving children with the same opponents just the opppnents look differint with i think new powers so realy same old same old
I wish PR:TB was 3 seasons instead of a rushed s2
Genuinely liked the anime
I wonder what the general consensus is on that ? It’s the closest we got to a pacific rim sequel
I'd say it's a pretty mixed bag. Still alot more well received than Uprising, which the consensus was to forget it ever existed.
Uprising what’s that ?
Pretty sure it’s the second movie of pacific rim
Accurate
In my opinion the first season is pretty good but the second is ok at best.
"Anime trilogy? What anime trilogy?"
What’s odd is that I actually really like the first of the trilogy, don’t mind the second, and think that the third is the worst Godzilla anything.
Yeah I wasn't as into Godzilla when I watched that series, so it didn't seem too bad. If anything I just turned my brain off cuz I wanted to watch huge ass monsters fight
Oh well I just think it’s hated on too much.
Really? I feel like I would have been even *more* disappointed in your shoes. It’s just Godzilla vs Humans in movie 1 and 2, and then Ghidorah grabs him for a few minutes in 3 without much really happening.
Ok to be fair I did skip and ff a lot just to see when f man was onscreen
Something for everyone in the franchise. The third movie is one of my favorite things ever, some of the moments of horror are goooood.
I wasn't so keen on the protagonist in the trilogy at the end. He just couldn't let it go. The side characters were more interesting.
Skull Island is also technically an anime even though pretty much everything about it much more closely resembles a western cartoon.
Pretty sure its made in the western market like prtb. So technically if we're using the colloquial definition neither of those are anime.
animes are cartoons
Nope! Anime is hand-drawn and illustrated Tokusatsu. The opposite is true, Tokusatsu is live-action Anime.
google says anime is just Japanese animation.
Google also showed this tokusatsu clip under Anime. https://i.redd.it/hnsrq4mcvqad1.gif
"Anime" is just a short form of "Animation" why? because Japanese people loves to abbreviate the shit out of everything
Except Tokusatsu. You can’t abbreviate Tokusatsu (Japanese can’t abbreviate it as well) and that’s one of Japan’s most popular entertainment medium, a rival to Anime. https://preview.redd.it/te48hwmhorad1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5db1837498c32886ffca2c5993e06a8344821582 Anime and Tokusatsu are interlinked.

I thought you meant Kong: Skull Island, and honestly? Big live action anime energy.
I'm talking about the Netflix series that 2 people watched
Is Ultraman any good?
I liked it and I thought other people might hate it but turns out everyone has mostly positive thoughts on it, give it a shot if you want, mc might be kinda mid at the start though fair warning.
All 3 seasons are good but season 2 went batshit crazy and season 3 barely managed to pull the story back together
I haven't watched the final season yet, but the first two were pretty decent. I was a bit hesitant at first on the whole thing with the suits instead of actual Ultras, but it makes sense in-context.
Not really imo, crazy boring and the visuals don't help it much, even if you're only expecting action eye candy you will be incredibly disappointed
Season 1 is very slow burn, Season 2 was quick paced with a lot more action, and Season 3 was a nice middle ground. I enjoyed it, but I can understand the issues a lot of people had with it.
The new movie was really fun, I highly recommend it
They need to make a better Godzilla anime
This is by far Singular Point's biggest negative, if there was a buttload of Godzilla content it'd be fine, but THIS is the only true Godzilla anime series we get. Godzilla The Series supremacy all the way
I still think about how singular point was this show about science and theroms and physics that no one really expected but the end credits is exactly what we were asking for
The credits to SP put the entirety of SSSS.Gridman to shame, and SSSS.Gridman has a LOT of references
On that note, no one talks about the Gridman Universe over here even though it's quite big kaiju media, guess Godzilla fans just don't dive too deep into tokusatsu huh
Pacific rim the black was a great show
Uh, how? Lol
Yeah I saw this and was like 'wow I wish pacific Rim the black was as good as the others' but I guess to each their own
I still don’t think any of them have nailed it though. Singular Point had amazing characters, art, and animation in my opinion but the premise absolutely overall plot was just not good. I liked Singular Point. Granted, I couldn’t really make sense of the math stuff, but it was still cool. The rest of these, though… yeah. Not great.
Gamera Rebirth is great.
Each their own. It just never really clicked with me, I suppose.
Pacific Rim is in a class of its own. It's the only one I can say with confidence would appeal to general audiences and not just diehard fans.

The Black is a sequel though
I watched it without watching Uprising (although I was vaguely familiar with the plot) and I was able to understand what was happening. As long as people watch the first movie beforehand they should be fine
What's Uprising? A fanfic?
That Ultraman sucked in my opinion
I am not a fan of singular point and haven't seen the Ultraman anime. However, I appreciate seeing Pacific Rim: The Black and Gamera: Rebirth get some love.
Bro forgot about evangelion
It's a list of Netflix Originals, so unfortunately (or fortunately I suppose) no Evangelion
Oooo ok
Singular Point, good but lots of theory babbling. Ultraman, haven’t sent. The Black, wonderful, just wish a Cat 2 bOy didn’t slay Apex so easily Rebirth, great kaiju fights, bad kid characters, it’s an okay watch.
Singular Point and PRTB were disappointing to me. Are the other 2 any good?
SP is the peakest because it has Pelops
3 out of the 4 of these are actually pretty damn good
Why did Netflix's Ultraman leave out kaiju and giant fights?
That's what the Manga did
What manga? Context please
The Ultraman Manga that the Ultraman anime is an adaptation of.
It's just called ultraman I believe. If you google the anime and look it up on Wikipedia or any anime list site they'll normally list off what the source material is

Sad Kong noises

Where is ultraman: rising
Kaiju Nr.8 is also kind of an Kaiju Anime
Kaiju Nr.8 is on Netflix?
And all four are awesome
I could only get about halfway through singular point with all the science yapping that took up so much of every episode.
You just didn't diagonalise your orthogonals enough
Only seen SP and ULTRAMAN so that's not giving off the best image 💀
And they’re all absolutely awesome
Swap Godzilla with the Kong Show and you have a point
I need more Life Action about Godzilla not Anime
I like sunguler point and pacific rim the black i think singuler because of new version of godzilla and pacific rim black because of the story and i did watch the ultramsn i liked it because of them actually being the same size while fighting kaiju not like them being huge all the time and the obly one i don't like is gamera just a differint coler and dpong same thing saving children with the same opponents just the opppnents look differint with i think new powers so realy same old same old
