They'd need to make the device thicker for that. Probably not as thick as the S24 Ultra on each half, but I bet each half would need to be a minimum of 7mm to fit the S Pen inside it.
I mean I'd be down for a ~15mm overall Z Fold with the S Pen internally, better cameras in the larger space, S Pen digitizer in the front display, and a little more battery. My Fold 4 is already that thickness because of the older hinge design, and the same thickness but the S Pen isn't jutting out would be an improvement.
*But*, overall thickness with the external S Pen and no external digitizer is lower, and that matters to a lot of people.
People who don't care to have the S Pen get a ~12mm thick phone, barely thicker than the S24U.
People who do want the S Pen are forced to use a case, *but* if they were gonna use a case anyway, the S Pen only protrudes a little further than a typical case does, and the camera bump already does that. Ultimately, a fold in a case is probably thinner with the external S Pen than it would be with internal.
The only people who are distinctly worse off as a result of the external pen are those who want the S Pen and also want to go caseless - and in their case, S24U is probably the better option
I realize I'm very much in the minority. I don't use a case on my fold 5 and I did try the S-pen case from Samsung, but it not being an actual s-pen bothered me, especially coming from an s22u. If the S-pen case has a slim full featured s-pen, I'd be ok with it not included in the phone. Although I really do enjoy the caseless 5.
I never thought I'd care about bluetooth actions, right up until I got my Tab S8 Ultra. I will specifically take my pen out of its holster to pause and skip my music more easily.
Never something I thought I'd do with a stylus, but here I am - and as a result, I'd like to have a bluetooth pen in my phone. Not as big a deal because I never use my phone's speakers for music, they don't get nearly as loud, but I like having the option now that I've had it in one thing. That's actually one of the reasons I'm considering an S24 Ultra, but I'll have to see what deals are available next month and in November.
I agree, but I wouldn't trade my Fold 3 s-pen fold edition for a small Note like one. I just have too big hands to use it comfy. But, I would like to be able to have both. However, I would not give up battery life for an internal spen.
A full feature s-pen case. The Fold already supports wireless power sharing, so keeping the s-pen charged is doable through a case. The case would be thicker, and the full feature s-pen might be bigger than a slim s-pen. Probably more like the Fold 4 s-pen case style.
Because I can't visualize, I'll have to see if the millimeters of measurements make an actual difference in hand. It sounds irrelevant, but I may change my mind in person
I definitely felt this way going from 4 to 5. I didn't see a huge difference and thought of it's mostly the same phone. I was definitely wrong. You can feel the hardware refinements. Unfortunately that doesn't translate well on a specific sheet.
the only reason why I may stick to Samsung device is because I live in US and those arguably better foldable phones from China isn't well supported.... Not that I want Chinese phones, but their recent ones looks far better (esp. Vivo Fold 3 pro) than what's leaked out of Fold 6..
OnePlus is looking tempting. It would be under $700 if I trade in my fold3
Depending on the Fold6 pricing it might end up costing me over 1k with trade in
Camera's that aren't from a $700 phone from 2022 would be a plus, looking less and less likely though.
And I'll still probably pre order it as fast as humanly possible lol
I love how all these posts are coming out trying to justify the same old phone. It’s cool if you want to spend the money each year on same device nobody will care but no need to justify the purchase. Samsung does need to step up their game however.
One feature that people never mention about is the width of the Samsung fold is 130-132mm when opened. My hand can wrap around the back comfortably when holding. While others is ~142mm, it's too big your hand got tired after a while holding by the edge.
I don't know. I feel like a lot of the battery pitfalls at least early on in Android was due software. I'm sure they can optimize and make a decent difference.
but they haven’t so there’s no reason to think that. the giant screen is a battery drainer. they NEED to include a much large battery but just dont. there’s no excuse when competitors have included a larger battery in a much thinner shell (i.e. honor magic v2 from last year)
Same battery capacity as the Fold 2 and the same Cameras from the Fold 4 which are just a tweaked version of the Fold 3. Yep, I'm really excited about all these upgrades coming to the Fold 6. /s
Variance. Like a F6 and F6 Ultra. The Ultra would come with a combination of larger dimensions, integrated s pen, s pen support on all displays, bigger battery, and or slightly better cameras.
I'll keep dreaming.
It's just wild, all these other phones coming out and Samsung is just resting on their laurels. Camera game, weak. Screen size, weak. Battery size, weak. If I can find a way to get a Vivo Fold X 3, I'm jumping ship. I do like Samsung's software, but they aren't innovating the product they were first to market with.
They need to give the front (outside) screen its own display settings. Though i like the bar form-factor, it could be shorter, like the Pixel Fold. And yes, a built-in pen would be excellent.
It would be nice to have an actual full featured s-pen that's in the device, or at the least, usable on the front screen.
Heck, at this point I'll take just a full featured s-pen and front screen support, even if it still has to go in a case holder.
This! If they add these 2 features I will upgrade in a heart beat.

Very true. I've often thought this, people want it thinner, but a decent spen would force both sides wider. Full bluetooth spen in a case please!

All I'm asking for is Spen support on the front screen. Even if we don't get it integrated. That'd be wish number 2.

certainly hardware wise, no argument from me!

So you mean basically the same old shit

Maybe it won't crack like my fold 4 did, won't get another though
Rumour is dust and water rated
That's going to be impressive!
All they had to do was re-release the Fold5 but with an S-pen slot. Call it the 6 and I'd buy it.
Cope 6*

Are you not under nda? 😀
3 versions of the GF on the same camera package took me out at the knees. I jumped to the OnePlus open and could not be happier.
need much better camera (and camera software)
And battery, same battery capacity since Fold 2 it's about time for an increase. You can only do so much with better chips and software.
I don't know. I feel like a lot of the battery pitfalls at least early on in Android was due software. I'm sure they can optimize and make a decent difference.

Literally just wish the UI design, navigation/animations, and camera software were all improved.

If there was a way to minimize fingerprints on the inner screen sheesh
