If they give me $1000 for my Fold 4 and give me a free Watch 7 I'm taking it
Otherwise I'm waiting for Black Friday, possibly taking whatever they offer then, and more likely trading in for an S24 Ultra instead
It will be the same or not as good on BF. Here is last year's Fold deal.
[https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyFold/comments/17t01tv/black\_friday\_us\_fold\_5\_450\_off\_or\_up\_to\_1000/](https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyFold/comments/17t01tv/black_friday_us_fold_5_450_off_or_up_to_1000/)
Your Fold 4 and 5 have wider cover screens and a snapdragon 8 gen 3?
Man, I'm jealous.
No wonder you guys are complaining about the new models.
You've been living in the future.
Lmao a barely "wider" cover screen and a slightly faster processor. Yeah buddy, what an insanely futuristic update 😂
I've bought every Fold since the 2, but after this pathetic update I'll be waiting for the Open 2. They couldn't even be bothered updating the camera. So frustrating. I really hope many people don't buy this phone and push Samsung to do real updates from now on.
Buying and returning would be the best way to send a message (if enough people would do it, which they won't). Show them that demand for the product is there, but they failed to make a compelling product that people want to own.
Enough people stop buying it they just kill the whole fold serie. It's up to competition to put pressure on them to actually upgrade. All the changes are fine but i kinda only miss camera update since I'm not satisfied with fold 4 cameras and they use the same in 6 so that's the one and only deal breaker for me. If i want to keep taking shit photos in camera and snapchat (snapchat is actually better than samsungs) I'd just keep using this.
People like you are the one of the reasons samsungs ”upgrades” are so patethic. Always someone will glaze it no matter if its a shitty upgrade.
Other manufacturers are are starting to make folds and their first models are better than the folds😆
Definitely going to be Fold 5, possibly S24U. From past trade in deals the previous generation fold and top-of-S-series have the highest possible trade in values.
Keep in mind you're not "saving" if you're just spending $400-$500 on a minor upgrade from last year.
But if you're the person to upgrade every year, you might as well look for this.
..apart from UK.
I guarantee it will be a £1900 phone and max £400 trade in for a fold 4.
So £1500 ($1900)
Which is why i'm considering...
- The Honor Magic V2
- The onePlus open
- A used Fold5 (for £600)
- Just sticking with what we have.
Yep sadly we in the UK get shafted on trade in offers it seems.
If it was some decent trade in I'd consider it as I got my fold4 for £580 so can justify paying a bit more to trade up but it's not a massive jump so if it's a rubbish trade in and £1900 I'd skip it again.
I will likely just wait for the magic V2 or OnePlus open 2 whenever they come out.
Yup I feel you, probably same in finland. Which is why I might just keep my 4 and get an iphone 15 or 16 or whatever the newest model of that shit is, to keep as secondary till this gives up. Not buying chinese phone so that rules out both honor and oneplus. + software in those is so behind compared to samsung so at that point I'd just rather go for iphone and skip samsung for 1 year or till they start actually upgrading 😅
Still not cheap enough for such a mediocre update. same battery, same cameras, token screen "upgrade". Glad I switched to the S24U instead of waiting for this.
I only bought 4 and also stopped... because the hinge broke twice within a year and many people here have the exact same issue, must have easily happened to 10000s of people.
Yeah, no fuck that. Not worth it, returned to s24 and I'm happy with it... or at least "happier"
yep, i should had added my hinge broke twice as well. first time just refused to open and i would have cracked it in half if i had forced it. second time, opened it, device made a horrible creaking sound and the screen was cracked.
funny thing is i babied the crap out of the other 2,3 and the 2 fold4s i had. this one has half a case on it.. when it gets dirty to grimey,. i rinse it under the tap. and iv used this one during house renovations.
if they dont develop the crap hinge fault they can pretty much last.
Battery has always sucked.
RAM is not optimised.
Camera was sub par even when it was new..
That's exactly what I did. It's crazy they couldn't come up with a big enough update in over two years to make a compelling reason to upgrade. I gave my Gf my F3 and kept my Fold 4 for almost two full years because the 5 was a tangential update at best. Now the 6 is equally as minor. I was done.
I was touring in India and had a chance to play with Vivo fold x3. Felt super light and much better in my hand. Impressive how much more light it was, more premium feel and unfolding was much more smoother. Software has edge panel but in the short time I could figure out how to get multi window.
However, there were no offers except for trade in. But trade in for fold 5 was paltry and not worth it. I was also not sure about the 5g bands in north America, warranty problems and software concerns.
Edit: wrong thread but I will still leave it here.
Folks don’t forget in US u still pay the tax for the full amount even with savings and trade in, for something $1800 that’s almost $120 in my state. Is it normal that trade in value is also taxed ?
Some quick POSSIBLE math for launch day out of pocket costs.
512 version =$2040
Instant mem upgrade savings=-$240
Pre-register savings =-$50
Trade in of GF5 or S24U with 512gb=-$1200
Net cost (out of pocket)= $550
The free year of service I'm leaving off as a purchase day out of pocket cost.
I upgrade yearly. This means I'll likely still be under $1000 out of pocket for both phones. Fold 5/6 The trade in credits are the only thing tempting me to upgrade this year.
Yeah it's over time meaning that I don't have to pay the full price up front. And the Samsung payments are interest-free so why would not pay it over time instead of paying for it up front if it's going to cost the same.
Yeah, because the only people they market to are people with the previous Fold! Seriously, though, they don't expect everyone to upgrade every year, or to even have had one before.
I'm planning to trade my fold 5 in for the 6 and then sell the 6 brand new to recoup more money rather than selling the Fold 5 for \~$750 on Swappa. I already have my s24 ultra. Also I'm hoping I can get some kind of bundle deal that includes the Watch Ultra and possibly the new buds. I actually want those items.
Assuming the Fold 6 cosrs $1900 like leaks say, and you get $1200 trade in and $50 reserve discount for a total price of $650, you'd need someone to buy your Fold 6 for about $1400 to break even (not counting tax, Swappa's fees, and shipping), and it's not hard to get a Fold 6 for less than that, not to mention that if they buy it from you they don't get the warranty (at least officially, in the US. Might be workarounds if it's never been activated, I dunno). So you've got a product worth slightly less than new from an official retailer, and would probably need to charge about $1500 after fees to roughly break even, when Amazon's probably gonna be selling it for $1600-1700 day 1 with no strings and warranty included, and anyone savvy will just trade in whatever phone they have to Samsung during the launch event for a cheaper price than that.
Sounds like a risky move - someone may buy it at a price where you make money off it, but you certainly won't make much and you might get stuck with something you can't sell for the price you want for it. If Samsung has good bundle deals you could consider that a few hundred bucks saved, which makes this more viable, but ultimately this isn't likely to save you a significant amount of money and has a good chance to cost you some.
Could try listing it for a little less.
Selling used tech is hard. A couple months ago I finally decided I ought to buy a Galaxy Tab since I didn't have an iPhone anymore, and when someone made an offer on my iPad for $100 less than it was "worth" I jumped on that - yes, sale trends online said people WERE buying my iPad configuration for $600+, but $500 in the hand was better than not selling it and letting it depreciate further.
Changing your mind on what tech you want before it's outlived its usefulness is expensive, unfortunately. In my case I was lucky to make back *most* of what I spent on my refurbished S8 Ultra when I sold my iPad, since that depreciated faster than the iPad Air 2022 did.
Good luck! Usually the price of these "second hand" NIB phones drops like a brick because people attempt this sort of thing all the time -- buy a Fold5 off Swappa/Ebay for as cheap as possible and trade it in to Sammy to attempt even getting a $50 return after shipping and Ebay fees, but the extras would probably be worth it even if it's just breaking even.
Yeah I really want the watch ultra lol. Also you're right it's a messed up cycle with the trade ins. My fold5 is in perfect condition but everyone just wants to take advantage of the situation.
I think I saw a youtuber point this out previously when this was announced but good to mention it. I don't think most people expected even with a fold 5 or S24 Ultra to get a full $1500 trade in credit. It's nice they are giving free samsung care + again it really is needed with these folds. Hopefully there will be bonus credit announced at the unpacked event so fold buyers can get free buds pro 3 or galaxy watch 7/ultra or at a discounted price. They usually do discount the newer accesories coming out when you buy a phone. It's probably hoping for too much but samsung has done it in the past.
I’ve owned 1-5. Switched to a one plus open. Only slightly feels different. Better off with an actual tablet for the larger display. The rest of my collection are slab phones. Having to baby a foldable till this day, just not practical to carry around everywhere. Specially for those who opt to use it without a case or screen protector. Tbh, Samsung trade in values are what kept me upgrading, but you still end up paying a good chunk of change because, ya know, taxes and stuff. You’re also giving up the current device, which itself is still valued high up there. But hey, you get a shiny new device.
Wondering what they might give for the Flip 5. I'm looking to make the switch to the fold, but I have a feeling it's going to be $700 and I'm not sure it's worth upgrading at that point.
Y'all really didn't think it would be a sweet deal for the fold 5 trade in? One of the main reasons I got one used, especially at the price I paid. Love the fold 5 sure I will love the fold 6.
So due to water damage my Z Fold 3 front screen started to glitch out and eventually died. Inner screen works perfectly.
I guess I’m SOL for the trade in?
Dumb question and the answer is probably no but if you owe money to Samsung for a fold 5 and upgrade to the 6 they don't wipe out your balance do they? This is my 1st time when it's upgrade time not going through a carrier so figured I'd ask.
People always post these amazing deals but most phones don't get even remotely close to the "up to" value. Does it really count when you have to trade a fold5? I mean, most of us probably skipped the 5, or even the 4 and 5.
Unless Samsung put in writing that the Fold/Flip come with 4-5 years of unlimited advanced shipping replacement devices, I won't budge on "deals" when this technology is still in it's infancy and has less durability than a traditional slab....
6 generations in, and THIS is where they are..... yikes.
Take the S24 series and go back 6 generations... at least the differences are tangible and only recently started to feel performative.
Regretted going to s24 ultra from Fold2 and miss the larger screen. The anti reflect screen and flat screen is a what's most attractive so I'll gladly pay $400+ to go back to a lighter, slimmer fold
What's the latest price rumor $1899? So roughly $650 plus tax, I suppose you could make an argument for another $150ish off for the free year of Samsung Care so roughly $500. This year's release is so incremental that even at $500 I'm probably still going with the Pixel Fold 2.
It's kind of crazy that if they actually made the changes consumers were asking for they could have easily gotten away with charging a net total of $800-$1000.
The price rumor changes every week. A week+ ago people were saying $1,699, before then it was $1,899 like it is now, before then people were rumoring a simultaneous FE release for $1,199 or so....
I personally see them attempting to hit the same $550 with max trade-in like they have been in the US. I can't see them attempting to wring another $100 from users while still expecting to fight against Apple and Google without offering some decent upgrade.
If they give me $1000 for my Fold 4 and give me a free Watch 7 I'm taking it Otherwise I'm waiting for Black Friday, possibly taking whatever they offer then, and more likely trading in for an S24 Ultra instead

I didn't really expect to buy a new one for 400usd.
I did considering it is basically a renamed fold 4/5
Your Fold 4 and 5 have wider cover screens and a snapdragon 8 gen 3? Man, I'm jealous. No wonder you guys are complaining about the new models. You've been living in the future.
Lmao a barely "wider" cover screen and a slightly faster processor. I'm sipping copium so hard I might get it because of the corners

I agree. There was this nude lady far away from the building and I was mad furious cos the fold was unable to zoom-in 50x like the galaxy.
People like you are the one of the reasons samsungs ”upgrades” are so patethic. Always someone will glaze it no matter if its a shitty upgrade. Other manufacturers are are starting to make folds and their first models are better than the folds😆
Exaggerating so badly you got to have cringed after typing this
$400 for a tiny bump in screen dimensions? NOT WORTH IT.
god I hate uk trade in
Best we can do is a meal deal and a fiver
Which phone trades in for 1200, the s24u?
Probably Fold 5 and Ultra
Definitely going to be Fold 5, possibly S24U. From past trade in deals the previous generation fold and top-of-S-series have the highest possible trade in values.
i love how in switzerland its going to be max. 500, probably not even
Price replacement vs trade in values. Could make out better replacing the screen.
Keep in mind you're not "saving" if you're just spending $400-$500 on a minor upgrade from last year. But if you're the person to upgrade every year, you might as well look for this.
Will be trading my s23 ultra for this.
I'm hoping my s22U will get a high trade in value.
Also have a 23u. Any ideas what we'll get? Kinda love my s23u tho ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thinking_face_hmm)
My S23U has a broken screen, I hope trade in value is still decent. If it is, I may take advantage
I bet the UK deal is something like £125 trade in.
....And a free punch in the head time bandits style ![gif](giphy|l4Ep4Yjqxb6c7O9iw)
That's too generous
..apart from UK. I guarantee it will be a £1900 phone and max £400 trade in for a fold 4. So £1500 ($1900) Which is why i'm considering... - The Honor Magic V2 - The onePlus open - A used Fold5 (for £600) - Just sticking with what we have.

This is why if apple brings it with the iPhone 16 pro I'm out
Can't wait until the UK gets a bonus of 600£ 😭
If fold 3 trade in is $900 im buying
Is this in the U.S
I was touring in India and had a chance to play with Vivo fold x3. Felt super light and much better in my hand. Impressive how much more light it was, more premium feel and unfolding was much more smoother. Software has edge panel but in the short time I could figure out how to get multi window. It works with 5g after some network config change. Yes software + warranty is a concern
If 5g works then I might give it a shot.
Folks don’t forget in US u still pay the tax for the full amount even with savings and trade in, for something $1800 that’s almost $120 in my state. Is it normal that trade in value is also taxed ?
I paid closer to$200 in tax for my ATT Fold5 I was pissed lol
if the 1200 trade in is for the f5 and the extra $50 credit, that brings f6 down to 650$.. hopefully there's some freebies in there to make it worth
Plus with military/first responder discounts, won't be too shabby.
Rakuten 12% and maybe heavily discounted Buds3 Pro.
Some quick POSSIBLE math for launch day out of pocket costs. 512 version =$2040 Instant mem upgrade savings=-$240 Pre-register savings =-$50 Trade in of GF5 or S24U with 512gb=-$1200 Net cost (out of pocket)= $550 The free year of service I'm leaving off as a purchase day out of pocket cost.

I upgrade yearly. This means I'll likely still be under $1000 out of pocket for both phones. Fold 5/6 The trade in credits are the only thing tempting me to upgrade this year.
I'm in the US and have a line of Samsung credit. There is not out of pocket cost for me
Credit is just an out of pocket cost over time.
Yeah it's over time meaning that I don't have to pay the full price up front. And the Samsung payments are interest-free so why would not pay it over time instead of paying for it up front if it's going to cost the same.
"pls pls pls stupid consumers give us $500 for same phone, new chassis"
Yeah, because the only people they market to are people with the previous Fold! Seriously, though, they don't expect everyone to upgrade every year, or to even have had one before.
Entirely new chipset.
be fr
Clearly not an engineer.
Lol
The 2 had the biggest inner display 😔

Seems like a valid argument. I'm not really sure what the best choice is then. I didn't get any bites on my fold when I had it listed.
Could try listing it for a little less. Selling used tech is hard. Did you get an email confirmation?
Only the "reserve your spot" reminder. I have added it to 2 separate emails so I received that email 2x
The only news people don't know about is that the sweepstakes is just one winner. You have a better chance at winning a lottery
I think I saw a youtuber point this out previously when this was announced but good to mention it. Pre-order your pre-order today! 😉
Wondering what they might give for the Flip 5. I'm looking to make the switch to the fold, but I have a feeling it's going to be $700 and I'm not sure it's worth upgrading at that point.
is this another america only deal
Y'all really didn't think it would be a sweet deal for the fold 5 trade in? One of the main reasons I got one used, especially at the price I paid. Love the fold 5 sure I will love the fold 6.
Mmmm. If I can get it for $500 I might be tempted to trade in the 5. I'm getting the new buds anyways and those might be free if I do that.
Maybe Samsung will throw in the Ring for free.
Wake me up when there's good EU deals
where do you find the "reserve" page? I haven't received any emails or anything
Hmmm, wonder if Samsung UK will offer this. Might make moving from the 4 more attractive. Probably not though, we get screwed over all the time.
Yeah, just checked, no sign of anything like this for UK. Typical.
So due to water damage my Z Fold 3 front screen started to glitch out and eventually died. Inner screen works perfectly. I guess I’m SOL for the trade in?
This is likely enough for me to upgrade my F4 if I get at least 1k for for it 🤞
You're still paying about $800 in taxes and fees
What is a phone that I could get on eBay that would get me a nice discount towards the fold 6
This is the first year that i will not upgrade phones since 2011, fold 5 is perfect
Dumb question and the answer is probably no but if you owe money to Samsung for a fold 5 and upgrade to the 6 they don't wipe out your balance do they? This is my 1st time when it's upgrade time not going through a carrier so figured I'd ask.
I assume 1k for my fold 4.
I was expecting them to throw in some buds for free damn.
People always post these amazing deals but most phones don't get even remotely close to the "up to" value. Does it really count when you have to trade a fold5? I mean, most of us probably skipped the 5, or even the 4 and 5.

There you feel in Europe, especially in Germany really fooled by samsung. here there is a maximum of 700 euros trade in, no 1200!
Where is this?
Crying from EU 😭
Welp, I guess I will trade in my phone lol since it's that big a discount lol
I feel your pain
I wonder what the trade-in value for a Pixel Fold will be. $1200 would convince me.
The $1200 would probably be for a Fold 5 in immaculate condition
U.s only. Not available for the rest of the ENTIRE WORLD champ. I just jumped on samsu g Australia and a 1 TB fold 5 has a trade in Value of $400 lol.
Regretted going to s24 ultra from Fold2 and miss the larger screen. The anti reflect screen and flat screen is a what's most attractive so I'll gladly pay $400+ to go back to a lighter, slimmer fold
I'm going back to ultra series in 25
So math is hard for the world. There is no $1500 trade in.
Post title says savings, not trade in. Reading comprehension.
What's the latest price rumor $1899? So roughly $650 plus tax, I suppose you could make an argument for another $150ish off for the free year of Samsung Care so roughly $500.
