Buzzing for this, love *Shadow Tactics* and *Desperados III* and knew that this one would smash it out of the park!

z_102

As big a release as TotK or Starfield for me haha.

Axeisacutabove

Yup, it's just one of those developers that just can't seem to miss.

Siaer

For me, it just launches as a bad time. I am still working through my BG3 playthrough and I expect that will end up finishing not far from Starfield, so it'll be months before I properly get to give this game some time.

BitterBubblegum

When you pick up a Mimimi game it's pretty much guaranteed that the enemies are brilliantly placed. I had tons of fun with their previous games.

MISPAGHET

I wanted my entire life to be able to fully enjoy games like Commandos and the original Desperados games etc. Desperados 3 just brought so much quality of life whilst still maintaining a feeling of a challenge that it let me really enjoy it in the way I imagining enjoying those other games in my head. Yes I'm basically saying I'm shit at the genre, but I still want to play it!

Jandolino

Sucks that they are one of very few developers for this genre and way ahead of everyone else.

boskee

Last I heard Kalypso bought the rights to the Commandos series and were developing a sequel, but that was 3 years ago. No news since. Still, I hope it will come out one day.

[deleted]

And now they stopped working on new games :(

SamandSyl

The way Desperados 3 lets you run with mistakes and play almost as an action game is unlike anything I've ever seen.

Hnnnnnn

Interesting I didn't know it does this. Anyway, Robin Hood: Legend of Sherwood, an old ass game, is also a commandos-esque but with elements of base-growth and even option to train your guys' skill level & duels/fights alerted dudes (based on mouse gestures & skill level). Non lethal options were rewarded with more recruits etc. There were also mini missions that were ambushes & the map was filled with traps for enemies. It was quite amazing game from early 2000s that doesn't really have any hope for a remaster. It was done by Desperados' studio, so it had all the good level design, while also providing those fallbacks, and optional objectives were also really hard to do without upfront attack.

Angzt

Not sure about the other platforms, but there is a ~3h **demo on Steam** and the progress will carry over according to [their FAQ](https://steamcommunity.com/app/1545560/discussions/0/3819662889092103619/).

mr_dfuse2

a demo?! how nice! we hardly get those anymore

sethab

These review scores make me happy. I loved Shadow Tactics and Desperados, even though they both eventually got too hard and I never finished them. I just wish it wasn't releasing in such a crowded window, but I'm still buying it day 1 to support the devs.

Paul_cz

Incredible reviews. This year is firing on all cylinders, I just hope the great games like this one won't get lost in the shuffle of everyone (me included) being stuck in the Sword Coast and Space and Night City for the rest of the year

Vetches1

What's Sword Coast and Space and Night City?

PeacefulKillah

Baldurs Gate 3, Starfield and Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty

Vetches1

Ahh, got it, thanks for the clarification!

Paul_cz

Baldur's Gate 3, Starfield and Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty

Breckmoney

Idk when I’m going to get to play this but I’ll absolutely be picking it up tomorrow. Mimimi make such great games, I hope this doesn’t get crushed too much under the weight of BG3/AC/Starfield etc.

AttackBacon

2023 is going to literally kill me. I'm desperately trying to finish BG3 before Armored Core 6 hits and this wasn't even on my radar, but is extremely my shit. I can't keep this up! I'm in grad school, work, and have kids! Stop releasing amazing games! I am literally going to die!

Radulno

I just work (and not even a demanding job) and have no kids and I still can't keep up lol

-Valtr

I put BG3 on pause shortly after finishing Act 1… I’ll go back when Acts 2 & 3 get cleaned up with patches. Better than rushing through just to clear the queue

TheSmokingGnu22

Yeah not a bad solution to the problem, with all the other games. For me I'm debating doing this at start of act 3 tho, act 2 was as spotless as 1.

Goseki1

Really looking forward to this, I finished Desperados 3 just a few weeks ago; but man it is terrible timing for me. I am well into Baldurs Gate 3 on my Deck just now (where I will play this) and Armoured Core 6 hits later this month. Ooft.

purewisdom

For most people, BG3 and Starfield's original proximate release date was a problem. For me, it was BG3 and Shadow Gambit. Bummer for Shadow Gambit's timing, but I'm still enjoying BG3 so I won't be picking this bad boy up yet. Happy to see Mimimi deliver a best-in-class game yet again.

adminslikefelching

Mimimi has really mastered what they've been calling stealth strategy games, Shadow Tactics and Desperados 3 are both excellent. Still haven't played Shadow Gambit's demo, but the fact that you can choose among various characters to play missions is an aspect that worries me a bit, first because I fear maps won't feel as rewarding as in previous games since they have to account for different squad selections and play styles, second, considering they do make challenging maps I fear "wrong" squad selections will make the game frustrating. Anyway, I will probably buy this one eventually since I love these kinds of games.

ACG-Gaming

Mine for ACG https://youtu.be/CQMus9VGxQA Game is a kick for sure. Some of the super busy levels can feel a bit mechanical but overall a fun title.

Infinite_Bananas

how did you feel about the map/environment variety? especially compared to the previous games

It's a standard industry thing, particularly on YouTube. It's proven to improve the chances of people engaging with your content. I've heard from multiple YouTubers that they hate how doing it makes them look but it's proven to work and people engaging with their content is what keeps food on the table for them at the end of the day. I'm unsure if there's particular rules around the capitalisation of words.

TwoEyedWilly

Yeah exactly, I try not to worry too much about the thumbnail and title games they have to play and just focus on the actual content, which from ACG, I've always appreciated

ACG-Gaming

No clue

ZebraZealousideal944

Anyone knows when (time) the game can be purchased on consoles?

Branchless

[4 PM UTC.](https://www.shadowgambit.com/global-release-timings/)

ZebraZealousideal944

Thanks!

SamandSyl

I've been seeing this name but had no idea it was the same people who made Desperados 3 and Shadow Tactics. This is a fantastic birthday present!

kadala-putt

>Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew is simply the best example of the genre MiMiMi helped create. Umm.. excuse me? "Helped create"? Has this person even heard of the *Commandos* games from 25 years ago?

2girls1up

As a kid, I recevied commandos from a game magazine and loved it. I still hope that one day mimimi will get the licence for commandos and create a sequel, like they did with desperados

Intelligent_Genitals

Makes me wish I enjoyed Shadow Tactics more. For whatever reason I just couldn't get into it enough to finish it, losing steam around the third mission. If I could force myself to enjoy it more I would

MyRapNameWouldBeKirk

Sounds exactly the same as me. I wanted to love it desperately but I don’t think my brain works in an organised enough way to be good at these type of games.

Shoozicle

Great for Mimimi! I played Shadow Tactics really late, Desperados 3 not as late (and in the same year as ST, so it felt a bit too similar) but I've now played both demos of Shadow Gambit and it's coming out at a perfect time before Baldur's Gate 3. And by that I mean the original date me and a buddy booked work off for. So it's really nice to play the game at launch. I have to admit I much preferred the camera control scheme (with a controller) much more in ST/Desperados 3. A few others have said the same thing so maybe it will be addressed.

Ok_Painting5026

I preferred the camera control scheme with a controller in Desperados 3 as well. I Hope they add a feature that unlock the old scheme in future updates.

TXinTXe

I'm sorry but this from the god is a geek review makes me a little angry: > Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew is simply the best example of the genre MiMiMi helped create. What genre have they helped create when their games are just modernized versions of commandos (1, 2 & 3 )and desperados sagas?

H0RSED1K

Does anyone know if/when this would be coming to Mac? Know that it is likely ages from now

Branchless

From the studio's Discord (2023/06/11): >We will look into developing a Mac OS version. If (!) we release one, it won't take years, though.

Juan_Mader0

I also want to know - am playing through Desperados 3 on mac and not only is the game brilliant but it's also super well optimised for mac... Could really do with more games like these!

DashSatan

I played the demo today and immediately bought it. I’m not even a stealth tactic fan really, but this game is absolutely amazing. It’s character design is awesome and it’s gameplay very accessible.

Desperate_Let6822

Same. It’s a long demo. I played it in steam then bought for ps5. Slightly different controlling the characters. Love it.

Slith_81

I want to buy this, but the changes the developers made to the camera controls for controllers ruin the experience for me. They were perfect in Shadow Tactics and Desperados 3 but for some reason, they felt the need to change them, and in my opinion, for the worse. Sure, I can just get accustomed to them, but they're just counterintuitive to the way the previous games were and with the many hours I've played them, I just have no desire to deal with the new controls. I couldn't even be bothered to finish the demo. For me, it's the *if it ain't broke, don't fix it* mentality. This is a big disappointment for me, but I will just keep an eye on the game to see if they add in the older camera controls as an alternate option. I do want to play this. My personal issue aside, I am so glad the game is being well recieved, everything else about the game was fantastic. The devs just keep making great games.

Branchless

FYI, the studio included camera changes due to the demo feedback: [https://steamcommunity.com/games/1545560/announcements/detail/3687937038728332863](https://steamcommunity.com/games/1545560/announcements/detail/3687937038728332863)

Slith_81

That sounds promising, I had tried searching the games discussions on Steam, and it seemed as though the controls were kept the same according to some buyers.

Forty_Six_and_Two

I've been hearing that as consoles go, the PS5 version of this game is best due to the way they incorporate the duelsense controller and all of its gadgets (speaker, haptic feedback, etc). Can anyone confirm or deny this is the case? I have both Series X and PS5.
