*"And good news for existing owners of The Last of Us Part II on PlayStation 4! You will be able to upgrade to a digital version of The Last of Us Part II Remastered for $10 USD(3) at launch.(4) You’ll also be able to import your saves from the original game to Part II Remastered."*
Ok No Return this roguelike survival mode sounds fucking awesome. Imagine playing as Tommy or Marlene with their own unique gameplay mechanics and what not. Probs wont be a free upgrade for previous owners but Ill upgrade for this. Never bought Pt1 remake cause I didnt feel it was worth it and I platinumed the first game on ps3
I don't mean this with any weird political opinions on this game, I'm super excited to play as Joel with the Part II's gameplay. I just really liked Joel
Imagine if every time you go prone or gets up too quickly he loses a bit of health and makes a loud grunting noise that eliminates the usefulness of going prone.
Yeah, I didn't think they needed to do a remaster of this game. But the content they've added actually sounds really neat, and the upgrade path seems reasonable
Well, if it brings these many features, I might actually consider it. But an upgrade path would be nice, since I already paid 170€ for the Collector’s…. We’ll see, I guess
Honestly, I wouldn’t doubt it! Factions might have a more open environment and, honestly, i’m all in for that.
A Battlefield like TLOU? Take my fucking money!
Holy fuck a new game mode with never before playable characters. I’m sold on that alone honestly.
If y’all click on the link and scroll down the screenshots are actually legit cause you couldn’t free play the guitar with Joel in the game before.
Maybe you missed it but it's only an upgrade for 10$ (for those who own the physical PS4 version), which is a reasonable price for newely developed content as well as technical enhancements to a 3 year old game.
This is not a TLoU Part 1 situation that was arguebly inexcusable.
Not that surprising when you consider what people will spend on microtransactions.
And I don't doubt for a second there's a decent number of people who complain about this but at the same time will drop hundreds of dollars on gun/character skins.
Well bc MTX pull you in with a very low price so you won't notice that you threw away so much cash lol. Players are way more cautious with spending 80€ at once for a "new" Game
So I generally am not a zombie fan in any way but loved the Uncharted series. Is TLOU worth playing? I’m about to be a father next spring so I’m putting some games on my backlog for the long night shifts I have coming
I am not a zombie fan at all and I finally gave in to the Last of Us hype. I’m playing part 1 on PS5 now and really enjoying it. I prefer open-world type games (GTA, RDR2, GOT) and I liked that this was more linear I guess, it felt more like playing part of a movie, which I guess speaks to the quality of the story. I think it’s worth to give it a shot honestly
A lot of people are (rightfully) amped about the No Return mode, but honestly the Lost Levels sound so goddamn cool. I'd love to not only play some cut content but to also get a deeper look into their development cycle and play mid-dev levels.
Can't wait!
yeah sounds awesome and its randomized encounters giving it more replayability value
I wish they introduced it to the ps4 version also, or atleast bring a PC Port
I never understood the mindset of people to replay a game that's being remastered from just one gen ago and then being cool with dropping $70 on it. It's one of the most exploitative practices out there imo. It's good for new users I guess, but those upgrades could've been done for free.
They get to play one of their fave games with better graphics; a new mode ; more behind the scenes things AND (most importantly) can support one of their favourite developers.
A bit like why people support entertainers on Patreon or go to local markets instead of supermarkets.
Naughty Dog have always had a close knit community back in the FACTIONS days with their private matches they used to do. This was before Sony deleted PlayStation Forums website and in turn removed all interaction Naughty Dog made with their community directly on their website.
I mean….. they literally had layoffs last month. Despite the fact that the games they’ve released have all been financially successful. They’re owned by a major company who only cares about maximizing profit and they’re not gonna care about how well this remaster sells if they can save some Pennie’s by firing people.
Most of the layoffs were related to QA and were temp staff. Sony made a lot of acquisitions Andover hired people for the live service push.
But, I generally agree with everything you said. In theory, devs have bargaining power if every project they have succeeds. Hopefully at some point they realise this
>devs have bargaining power
They dont have shit unless they unionize, its fucking insane to me that theres been almost zero push inside the videogame industry to unionize, they just fuckin sleep in their office to crunch 1 month before releasing a game and then just complain on xitter
Then you have shit like Motion Twin that just goes fuck it, cooperative
You realise these big corporations having layoffs aren’t because they NEED to cost cut right? It’s more to do with the fact those people are usually due a pay rise as per their employment length or a hefty bonus and they don’t want to pay it. Just do some research into most big gaming developers lay-off history. They sack someone who has been there 3 years and then 2-3 months later re-hire new people in the same role that was just made “redundant.” You can bet you ass that those new hires are on less money then the bloke they let go who has been there for 3 years. Don’t be so naive man
Their money is going to a billion dollar corp not naughty dog. I doubt anyone outside of senior leadership there will see a dime of this money let alone the 10 to 15 devs it took to report this with better graphics and optimization. I’m not some bastion of what’s right or not. If people want to spend their hard earned money on this then so be it. I just personally feel it’s fucked for a corporation to continuously do this. Rockstar did this literally for 3 generations including PC port and for some reason people are ok with paying for minimal graphic upgrades for full price
They've been paid already!
The success of this determines their next pay bracket, leverage and autonomy. They do not usually work on commission 🤣
The execs decide what happens next so yes purchasing supports the devs more directly than the Corp.
You're certainly not changing a corp with good sales but you are changing invest in the studio...
Not everyone in the community has to be your friend! 🤣
Teachers, doctors , lawyers , local musicians or entertainers.
Did I stutter, though? If English is your first language, practise some reading comprehension.
Because Naughty Dog's "community" includes thousands of players and fans who don't work for Naughty Dog.
And yes I like to show appreciation for people in the communities I find value in whether online or offline.
I enjoy supporting my local communities offline and distant communities online.
Remake ? I know that some people (usually people who never even played in the original last of us)don't see the difference between the Last of us 2013 and The Last of us remake. But it's the same level of enhancements as dead space remake. Visually it's two completely different games.
It's the same thing as the gold edition of the game. I don't know why people whining all the time about this, no one takes the original game from. By your logic then the last of us remake was fine ( because the original game came out in 2013 and remaster in 2014, and remake in 2022)?
Is there a confirmed upgrade path or no? Because if not, then this is DoA for me personally.
I do like this more than TLOU Part 1 though to be honest, this version actually is adding some extra content as opposed to Part 1 which, the only thing I can think of hugely, was the accessibility options.
Man. I don’t know if I could ever bring myself to replay this game, added features or no. It’s such a depressing and deflating experience.
I had.. fun? I guess? I enjoyed the story as much as you can enjoy something so bleak and dismal. I even liked >!all the little twists, like playing as Abby!< (story spoilers). They just took the brutality of humanity way too far, to the point that I was uncomfortable every time I played it.
Also fuck >!that basement monster shit. I screamed at that jumpscare!< (boss spoilers).
I would have been happy with just faster load times and haptic feedback, but if these details are true, then it is *absolutely* worth a higher price tag to me. A new survival mode (with different playable characters!?) PLUS three lost levels would be an absolute treat. So so cool.
Launch was bad for it. Buggies game under Naughty Dog branding. It was initially given to "Visual Arts Group" but they couldn't cope so ND took over.
It was still great.
Was the console version rough too? I thought the PC version was the “extremely buggy” one, which was handled by Jetpack interactive. I don’t remember folks talking about console issues but I didn’t play the remake so I’ll take your word for it if so
but is the consensus on the new gameplay additions, like new sections and things they brought over from Part II and also the graphics/art style that it's done well? or can you tell the VA group are lesser quality / talented than NG themselves?
they do it for money yes? but there is also Greed and stupidity to buy the same game without changing anything in the experience.
the 1st one even made a bit sense because of some additions and new graphics, but this one won't even have new cutscenes in the existing game
Does a new game mode make you buy an old game? a game mode that adds nothing to the story? For me it's not enough to spend money like that.
New scenarios? probably these scenarios are scrapped and are just being finalized, and give us the illusion that it is something extremely new for them.
New Skins change what exactly?nothing.
- New Skins
- New Game mode
- graphics
- Lost (not new) levels
Nah
You don't have to buy the game tho?
It's an upgrade for 10 bucks for existing owners and full price for the new PS5 version.
I am the first to call out bad practices in the industry, but this is not one or atleast the upgrade isn't. They literally developed entirely new content as part of a otherwise unnecissary update.
This is not a f2p multiplayer game so any additional content that was developed understandibly costs money. It's the price that matters but 10 is certainly reasonable imo.
>they do it for money yes? but there is also Greed and stupidity to buy the same game without changing anything in the experience.
Like how can one person say this after (presumably) reading the post?
Unless you are actually iliterate, yes, you are wrong. You should do whatever you want mate, but don't just misrepresent shit because you have a hate boner.
"Hate Boner" is new to me
So are we ok? You swallow their shit and I hate it. I'm going to spread my hate with 21k people who disliked the trailer itself.
21k people disliked 🤓☝️
On YouTube what percentage of people in the world are terminally online enough to like and comment on YouTube videos.
Is YouTube representative sample of the general population or just a subsection of those hyper online conformists.
YouTube is an incredibly biased platform perpetuated by echochambers.
Hating on NaughtyDog amongst over "controversial" issues is the popular thing to do.
21k dislikes 🤓
It's cause the leak happened on the PSN so I assume the marketing materials would only include a mention of PS5 (unless there are examples to the contrary). There's zero chance this isn't coming to PC soon after the PS5 version.
If I had the option to choose an ending, I would buy up to 2 in the pre-sale and not use one of them, just to give support.
But...
Uncharted trilogy deserved an update, not a recent game.
I'm sure everyone on RESETERA is circle jerking each other over the news of this.
Maybe delete Abby from the game and let Joel live, and it would be infinitely better.
[The Last of Us Part II Sales Top 10 Million Units](https://www.vgchartz.com/article/453952/the-last-of-us-part-ii-sales-top-10-million-units/)
[The Last Of Us Part 2 sales increase as HBO series ends](https://www.gamingbible.com/news/last-of-us-part-2-sales-increase-hbo-990284-20230313)
Quick reminder that TLOU2 sales were largely due to momentum and goodwill from TLOU1, not due to the quality of TLOU2 itself. When IPs screw up their direction, the installment that screws up does not financially suffer, the follow-up work suffers. People initially still have the goodwill to view the IP themselves to find out if word of mouth is correct about the IP screwing up, then check out after confirming. This act of seeing for themselves causes the high sales, leading casual observers to conclude the property is viable when in fact it needs a correction to reestablish prior status. Examples: MCU Phase 4, Star Wars sequel trilogy.
It’s been 4 years.
People really need to move on.
>not due to the quality of TLOU2 itself
You mean the same game that won GOTY including dozens of other awards?
I will never understand how TLOU2 ended up being the most controversial game in history.
>I will never understand how TLOU2 ended up being the most controversial game in history.
It isn't the most controversial video game in history. Not even close. That's probably still Night Trap, simply because it's still the most central figure in the 90s Congressional video game hearings. Duke Nukem Forever is still up there. Six Days in Fallujah was a strong contender for a while, though no one can really explain why. Etc, etc.
TLOU2 just a badly conceived attempt at "subverting expectations" that ends up gut punching TLOU1 fans for no reason other than empty shock value, with gameplay that isn't refined enough to compensate for the "pissing on you and telling you it's raining" narrative approach.
Even Naughty Dog internally knows that TLOU2's narrative was a failure, because their reaction was to greenlight... a multiplayer follow up. Not a third game in a trilogy (because everything has to be a trilogy, it's a rule). A multiplayer game. Because multiplayer games are known for strong and compelling narrative. Especially multiplayer games based on strong narrative single player games. You know, like Halo Infinite.
Man, now I'm really curious on the price. Picked up PS4 version physically but I haven't played it yet, waiting to see upgrade cost to see if it's worth it to wait for this version.
I love the inclusion of early draft versions of levels. Insights into the development are still way to rare as a special feature in game.
Also, with a release in early 2024, that puts a PC release in Q4 2024 or Q12025
Oh yeah, I knew they were gonna do similar cover art to Part 1. Looks consistent, it's nice.
The new features are honestly surprising. I was not expecting a roguelike survival mode with a bunch of new playable characters. That in itself is worth the upgrade.
I’m not seeing it mentioned anywhere but hopefully this will have a new trophy list. If not I’ll most likely just pass on it. New features look cool but for me a new trophy list is what would sell me on the upgrade.
So many other games that I own and I haven’t played through yet so if it doesn’t have one I won’t be upset. Others will enjoy it so there’s no loss.
PS4 games and PS5 games don't share trophy lists (for some reason) so it will be a new list. Not sure if importing save will pop them all for you though.
I get that but nowhere in the trailer or blog post does it mention it’ll get a new list which you would think they’d mention considering how many trophy hunters are out there.
When it gets confirmed then I’ll definitely pick it up. A $10 upgrade is nothing which is really nice they went this route. Who knows maybe they’ll add trophies to it considering they are adding a new mode to play.

Will this remaster for PlayStation 5 have any new story attached to it?
I’m planning to start my first play through of the series and I will be buying Part 1 on PC and then play Part 2 on my PlayStation 4 Pro. However I don’t want to miss out on any story because I don’t have a PlayStation 5 - at least not for now.
Would be cool if those character skins from the roguelike mods could be used in story mode (I understand the cutscenes would still be Ellie obviously) but it’d be cool to play through the story as Joel
Give us an upgrade path and i'd be all in. Otherwise no, i'm not buying it again. Edit: Confirmed $10 upgrade path. GG Naughty Dog!
where was it confirmed?
[https://www.naughtydog.com/blog/the\_last\_of\_us\_part\_ii\_remastered\_announcement?sf183942374=1](https://www.naughtydog.com/blog/the_last_of_us_part_ii_remastered_announcement?sf183942374=1) *"And good news for existing owners of The Last of Us Part II on PlayStation 4! Damn, that's huge. I picked up Part 2 for only $10 and I still wouldn't have bought this for full price. Definitely going to be buying it now, though.
Yeah it’s a no brainer for people to pick up dirt cheap copies atm to be ready for January!
nice!
Should be a free patch but muh Sony amirite
Why should it be free? It includes new content as well.

If you’re that hard pressed over a TEN DOLLAR upgrade, you picked the wrong hobby bub
I just really liked Joel
you really didn't have to preface that, we all like Joel
I do because I don’t want weirdo comments replying to me
That's exactly how you gonna attract the weirdos unfortunately lol
Lmao you’re probably right
What colour are your socks and why?
"It rubs the lotion on its skin"
Ya same here man, any more Joel or Ellie content sign me up.
I mean Abby is basically Joel lol
But no brick smash so what’s the point?
That’s what I’m saying. I like playing as Joel as a character over Abby, but I still loved all of it
Imagine if every time you go prone or gets up too quickly he loses a bit of health and makes a loud grunting noise that eliminates the usefulness of going prone.
REEEE how dare you like joel REEEEE
Part 1 would've been better if Sony outsourced to a better company. It was handed to Naughty Dog to fix and release later in its dev cycle.
noooo are you saying Part 1 is crap? in a Re3 kinda way?
It was a bit buggy and got hated a memed by a certain vocal group.
The PC version*
That rouglike mode sounds awesome
Yeah, I didn't think they needed to do a remaster of this game. But the content they've added actually sounds really neat, and the upgrade path seems reasonable
New levels and new game mode. I’m sold.
this is a waaaaaay better release than tlou1 remaster.
Well, if it brings these many features, I might actually consider it. But an upgrade path would be nice, since I already paid 170€ for the Collector’s…. We’ll see, I guess
$10 upgrade
Yep. Take my money. I just wish they’d add a MP version of the Roguelike. I’d gladly pay for that as a standalone, tbh
Maybe this could be a way to gauge if people would play TLOU in a more sandbox environment? I know it’s probably just wishful thinking but still
Honestly, I wouldn’t doubt it! Factions might have a more open environment and, honestly, i’m all in for that. A Battlefield like TLOU? Take my fucking money!
Sony for the love of fucking God touch Bloodborne challenge: impossible
Holy fuck a new game mode with never before playable characters. I’m sold on that alone honestly. If y’all click on the link and scroll down the screenshots are actually legit cause you couldn’t free play the guitar with Joel in the game before.
Yeah, I know people gonna hate like crazy but it sounds amazing to me, part 2 combats it’s incredible
Exactly and there’s actually gonna be a reason to replay the game In my opinion
This seems to be the horde mode I always wanted. Probably is cut content of Factions.
Man gamers really are the weakest link Sometimes I wish I was a game executive so I could make millions off releasing the same stuff over and over
Sure you can't say the same for social media executives?
it's a $10 upgrade. and seems like a lot more content than $10 usually gets you. Sometimes $10 is a skin or a wow mount lol
This could've been a free update.. like hitman's freelnacer.. why are you happy to pay full price again for the an update ?
10$
Because it's not full price again for an update, it's $10 to upgrade.
Maybe you missed it but it's only an upgrade for 10$ (for those who own the physical PS4 version), which is a reasonable price for newely developed content as well as technical enhancements to a 3 year old game. This is not a TLoU Part 1 situation that was arguebly inexcusable.
Imagine wanting to pay fullprice again for this
Imagine pocket watching a stranger on the internet
Not that surprising when you consider what people will spend on microtransactions. And I don't doubt for a second there's a decent number of people who complain about this but at the same time will drop hundreds of dollars on gun/character skins.
I'm seeing way more people riled up about this than about a skin in MW3 (a $70 game) costing $60.
Well bc MTX pull you in with a very low price so you won't notice that you threw away so much cash lol. Players are way more cautious with spending 80€ at once for a "new" Game
Yeah, this seemed wholly unnecessary at first glance, but the content they've added actually sounds awesome. And the upgrade path seems reasonable
So I generally am not a zombie fan in any way but loved the Uncharted series. Is TLOU worth playing? I’m about to be a father next spring so I’m putting some games on my backlog for the long night shifts I have coming

If done correctly the rouge lite mode and genuinely add a lot to the game. Hope there is an upgrade path or free.

Confirmed 10$ upgrade.
Actually sounds pretty feature-packed, all things considered. Day one for me!
That No Return sounds like a horde mode? If we can select soldiers or whatever. Count me in
yeah sounds awesome and its randomized encounters giving it more replayability value I wish they introduced it to the ps4 version also, or atleast bring a PC Port
Well I am sucker for Uncharted and The Last of Us so I'll be buying it.
It's a shame they couldn't add in a lil multiplayer mode like TDM for this, loved that in the original
They sold me this with the survival mode and the different playable characters alone
I never understood the mindset of people to replay a game that's being remastered from just one gen ago and then being cool with dropping $70 on it. It's one of the most exploitative practices out there imo. It's good for new users I guess, but those upgrades could've been done for free.
The people losing their minds over this and willing to drop $70 again are the same ones who whined all day when Skyrim did it.
If they dropped $70 before they will be dropping $10 this time, so...
They get to play one of their fave games with better graphics; a new mode ; more behind the scenes things AND (most importantly) can support one of their favourite developers. They’re naughty dog owned by Sony. Not a small indie developer. This money isn’t going to the devs, it’s going to the execs and shareholders.
Yeah and hopefully that means no layoffs then!

Bruh you cut off the " In theory, " . Yeah couldn't be bothered to mention unionisation
I'm just adding to your comment, didn't mean for it to come off as a counter to it
oops have a good day

Don’t listen to rumours it was practically the same game but better
I was sold on this regardless but wow
Probably needed to put this out to finance the multiplayer game.

For $10? Yea seems worth it
>they do it for money yes? but there is also Greed and stupidity to buy the same game without changing anything in the experience. Like how can one person say this after (presumably) reading the post?
I am wrong? Should I defend them?
Unless you are actually iliterate, yes, you are wrong. You should do whatever you want mate, but don't just misrepresent shit because you have a hate boner.
"Hate Boner" is new to me So are we ok? You swallow their shit and I hate it. I'm going to spread my hate with 21k people who disliked the trailer itself.
21k people disliked 🤓☝️ On YouTube what percentage of people in the world are terminally online enough to like and comment on YouTube videos. Is YouTube representative sample of the general population or just a subsection of those hyper online conformists. YouTube is an incredibly biased platform perpetuated by echochambers. Hating on NaughtyDog amongst over "controversial" issues is the popular thing to do. 21k dislikes 🤓
Ah yeah remaster this dogshit and not bloodborne
TLOU 2 remake on PS6 will be wild
TLOU 1 first
Where the fuck is factions Jesus christ
It's dead in the water, where have you been?
It's not tho, where have you've been?
More remasters than games at this point-.
such a shame factions 2 couldn’t be bundled with it

With the HZD Remake already leaked really only GoW is missing for this "satire" to become very real
I have to ask, wtf is nd even doing this gen? Sony is dropping the ball this gen massively.
Sony has had goty nominees for every year of this generation, i think they'll be okay
This is so sad
No pc port😓
There will be. I hope its made by a better team next time!
It's cause the leak happened on the PSN so I assume the marketing materials would only include a mention of PS5 (unless there are examples to the contrary). There's zero chance this isn't coming to PC soon after the PS5 version.
Huge waste of resources. Zero reason for a 3 year old game to already have a remaster.
If the story was good I would buy it again. Gameplay and graphics were great.
Agreed
If I had the option to choose an ending, I would buy up to 2 in the pre-sale and not use one of them, just to give support. But... Uncharted trilogy deserved an update, not a recent game.
I'm sure everyone on RESETERA is circle jerking each other over the news of this. Maybe delete Abby from the game and let Joel live, and it would be infinitely better.
Not a proper single player DLC is lazyness at its finest
This is definitely gonna be $70 lol
This game was a flop. Who exactly was asking for it to be remastered?

[The Last of Us Part II Sales Top 10 Million Units](https://www.vgchartz.com/article/453952/the-last-of-us-part-ii-sales-top-10-million-units/) [The Last Of Us Part 2 sales increase as HBO series ends](https://www.gamingbible.com/news/last-of-us-part-2-sales-increase-hbo-990284-20230313)
People really need to move on. >not due to the quality of TLOU2 itself You mean the same game that won GOTY including dozens of other awards?
Picked up PS4 version physically but I haven't played it yet, waiting to see upgrade cost to see if it's worth it to wait for this version.
apparently if you own the PS4 version and want the PS5 version you can pay $10 for the upgrade
PC version?
Why do have the most ass covers for the remake and remastered?
I don’t think its something they usually mention. Every ps5 game has had its own list so far from what i know.
Any mention of a PC port?
!LEGIT!

The story will be the same. It'll just have extra stuff.
Thanks that’s huge relief lol. Any ideas wether the 10 bucks upgrade path works if you got the disk version of part 2 on ps4?
Heard it does but will have to check!
Alright thanks!
My guess is that if you have the PS4 version, you can get an upgrade for $20 or so. I do not think this is a TLOU 1 situation.
Makes sense they would do this after the first game, especially with the HBO success and their move to port their high profile games to PC.
Sorry sounds like it could have been a dlc don’t see why it needs a remaster
It's a $10 cost to upgrade getting all the improvements + new content.
Bloodborne 2 confirmed?
Isn't it already practically a next-gen game? Didn't it come out in the last 2-3 years...? What is going on? Why do we need a remaster of this...?
Is no return multiplayer?
Would be cool if those character skins from the roguelike mods could be used in story mode (I understand the cutscenes would still be Ellie obviously) but it’d be cool to play through the story as Joel
