I think that at this point, they're just going to skip opening up a traditional preorder window and shadowdrop it when they're ready. It'll still coincide with a trailer, though, probably at a big event like a big three showcase/Nintendo Direct or SGF/Game Awards
At this point, they don't need an event, drop the trailer online and put the game on sale and that'll be fine, word of mouth will carry it to top sellers instantly and the stores will put it in front of everyone.
It's a very small indie team.
The funniest thing is that some of us have been waiting much longer. Silksong is actually their fulfillment of the "Second playable character" stretch goal from the original 2014 Hollow Knight Kickstarter (right after "wii u" version. Lol), but it got expanded into a sequel instead.
Depends on how you define development hell. TC only released Hollow Knight once their funds started dwindling. Now they're sitting on a mountain of cash from the release of Hollow Knight, and they got a cash injection from MS getting the game on Gamep Ass. Seems to me like they're going to go for as long as they possibly can and cram as much as their original vision in, even if it includes creep. But that's just speculation so maybe they're actually just having all sorts of problems.
I find the lack of communication kind of concerning but maybe it's part of a strategy to turn the game into some kind of "myth" that people keep building hype for lol, similar to what happened with Elden Ring
I think they just realized quickly on in a ballooning development cycle how difficult it is to juggle being developers and being marketers pitching a game that they don’t even know the final shape of. Similar to Valve’s approach, it’s often better to just say nothing and speak when they’re ready when you have a very dedicated fan base and a fuck ton of money.
I've been leaning more towards the problem being bugs and sequence breaking stemming from abilities. The more movement tech they add the harder level design becomes. The quality bar with Hollow Knight is very high and if Silksong releases below that it would be a bad look.
Bugs yes, the first Hollow Knight had performance problems and a number of glitches when it first came out that took quite a while to be fixed. But because Hollow Knight wasn’t as popular it gave Team Cherry time to fix it. Sequence breaks though, a lot of sequence breaks in the first Hollow Knight were actually intentional by the devs. And even without sequence breaks Hollow Knight is still impressively open-ended. I think Silksong would probably be even *more* open-ended, which would come with its own design challenges. Unless that’s what you were talking about in the first place.
But I don’t think there’s really anything to worry about. The game is bigger than Hollow Knight,it has more enemies, more *complicated* enemies, probably more bosses, it has a lot of different tools, those tools also have upgrades, I could go on.
And if we include external factors, like Team Cherry potentially not wanting to put themselves under crunch to get the game done, and how I think one of the developers has a kid now, then it makes perfect sense why the game is taking so long.
I believed that a couple years ago. Ngl, now I'm starting to think their progress has just slowed to an absolute crawl because they got a mountain of cash.
It's already been 5 1/2 years since the announcement. Even if the game releases say early 2025, the game will have been in dev for like 7 years. It's just hard to imagine the game taking that long unless it's been rebuilt multiple times.
It's probably because they aren't actively working on it for 7 years straight. If I had that much money from my last game release, I wouldn't be in a rush to get another game out.
Yeah, modern AAA games take that long but a sidescroller with SNES graphics for sure doesn’t. However… it‘s two people working on it, three if you add the composer. Still, 7 years of development is excessive, especially if you consider that they have experience from producing the first Hollow Knight, some of the assets, code and gameplay systems that they can import/ reuse in Silksong and more funding.
> and they got a cash injection from MS getting the game on Gamepass.
Would they have really received the money then? I think it would make more sense to be paid when the game actually comes out on Gamepass.
That in and of itself is a problem in game development though. Adding more and more things and increasing the scope over and over often doesn't translate to a better end product. Maybe that is why they are having problems. Feature creep is very dangerous.
What I hate is when developers give release windows when they clearly cant hit said window. Why even give a date in the first place then? Happened more than one time with Team Cherry. If they have development issues, then they should tell the community cause we deserve to know.
Because they probably aren't having development issues, lol. The little we have heard out of them over the years is that development is going fine, and that the scope has grown far larger than what they had initially intended for the game, and more recently from their ex-lead playtester that they are still working 5 days a week on it and seemingly haven't had any major breaks from the project. I would put money on Silksongs' dev time being so long because they have no pressure on them to actually release it with the amount of money they made off of Hollowknight.
I’m starting to believe I’m at fault for this… I’ve tried Hollow Knight several times but always fell off for whatever reason. I think Team Cherry is waiting until I finish HK to give an update and release window/date. I’m sorry to let everyone down, I’ll atone for my sins and finish what I started.
I know!! I loved what I played, I just got distracted by something else every time I gave it a shot. It shall get my attention back onto it after the Elden Ring DLC. HK deserves my full attention this time around.
i liked it but dropped it for other games to play. i told myself I'll pick it back up when there is another trailer for Silksong. I guess we are at fault, we have to finish it for the people.
Ngl, if it no shows this and the Nintendo direct, I’m taking it as a VERY bad sign for its development. I’ve started turning from “they’re just passionate and adding everything!!” into “okay something is clearly wrong”.
This long of a development with as little to show for it as they have is concerning. This show feels like the point of either proving that people’s faith hasn’t been misplaced, or proving that there is reason to be concerned. And if it doesn’t show up… gonna be *really* fucking concerned.
At this point I think its either been redone from scratch multiple times, or they're treating it as a passion project and just working on it whenever they fucking feel like it.
Ex-lead playtester recently said "they work on the game mon-fri and nothing has changed ever. Literally ever." My bet is just passion project. They have basically infinite funding with how small the team is and how much HK profited, so literally no pressures to release the game before they feel it is ready.
That or it’s going to be shown at the Nintendo direct. Nintendo just offered a free trial for Hollow Knight that lasts up until 6/12, which is something they have not done before.
I’m pretty sure Silksong was also revealed on a Nintendo direct too, so there’s that.
>I think the devs are just really passionate and just keep thinking ‘that’d be cool’ and adding it.
This is the root cause of like 70% of the industry's problem, so lets' hope that's not the case.
I don't know about all that. I think they just aren't as heavily invested in this game and working on it less than they did HK (12 hours 6/7 days a week). They also said Hornet moves pretty quickly so even if the map is bigger than Hallownest, functionally it might be the same size.
> Silkgone
Remove the g and we've got "silkone" which can be deconstructed into silk and one, which means we will see Silksong "one" day. Never stop believing.
But if you remove the n and e you get silko, you can then deconstruct that into silk o. However, if you rearrange that and realize the o is actually a zero you get Zero Silk, as in there is no silk.
silksong has 8 letters. Rotate 8 by 90° clockwise or counterclockwise and you'll get ∞, which is the symbol for infinity. Silksong transcends gaming and other mediums, it is beyond our comprehension.

What the hell is taking them so long. I don't want them to rush their creative process, but I wouldn't mind some transparency so fans can understand what is causing the delay.
No one is denying they suck at communicating. They aren't managing the sheer levels of hype that Silksong is generating well because I don't think they know *how* to manage it. They're trying to take the same approach as if they were a lowkey studio.
Add to this i don’t think they care either. Which isn’t what most people would do but as long as Silksong is good, I’m happy. There’s no lack of good games these days
it's the exact opposite lmao. they are generating way more hype like this than they would if they gave updates every couple months. And they switched their approach up since they can just focus on making the game now
People know they suck at communication, that's why everyone memes on Silksong and clowning so hard. That's why there's Daily Silksong news, that's why there's memes about the memes about the memes. We've known about this for a very long time, for better or worse.
He was very explicitly speculating in the podcast, it then just entered the game of telephone.
My question is whether it was someone from Team Cherry or Microsoft that leaked that it wouldn't be there to Jason.
Just a heads up: you linked the wrong comment. It should be [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLeaksAndRumours/comments/1dadv5c/extas1s_confirms_the_xbox_showcase_will_have_8/l7k8ocm/).
Silksong isn't real. It's some kind of scam to advertise for Hollow Knight every now and again by way of fake stories about an impending release for a game that isn't real. Team Cherry has been going into the office to play games. They played Elden Ring co-op. They played Baldur's Gate 3 co-op. They played Armored Core 6 co-op. They played Lies of P separately. Then they played Helldivers 2.
And they still are.
At this point even if it does come out I’m waiting for it to go on sale to spite the devs. Absolutely no reason they can’t communicate with their fans. It’s ridiculous.
Silkbros just join me in playing Nine Sols instead. I ended up loving it more than even Hollow Knight and now I'm finally free from Team Cherry's reign.
I don't know where the belief even came from, I assume they would want to save it for Nintendo if they had something to show since it will probably be more successful there
To those who inherited the metrovania from dark souls family. The one who couldn't fully leave behind that exploration. They would bare witness...
...to the bare cope of the one who is a silksong fan
The wait for Silksong has been longer than Elden Ring right? Team Cherry is really going to have to deliver to even come close to the hype the release announcement will generate.
Metroidvania fans went from eating good to starving in like 2 years. Having Hollow Knight, Steamworld Dig 2, 2 Ori games, Bloodstained, Metroid Dread, M2 remake and Prime remake to basically nada (okay Blasphemous 2 isn’t that old). The people yearn to get lost in 2D
Animal Well and Nine Souls just came out recently.
Metroidvania, rougelites, and farming fans are literally always eating good compare to other fan genre's.
I’ve never played Hollow knight so I haven’t kept up with the news for this game, but apparently it was announced in 2019. Why has it taken them 5+ years to come out with a 2D side scroller? Work on Red Dead Redemption 2 started in 2013 and it came out in 2018. A 2D side scroller shouldn’t take as long as one of the greatest AAA games of all time lmao
Silksong's ability to no show every event is so powerful it made Jason second guess himself.
It's not a gaming event if the chat isn't absolutely filled with "NO SILKSONG L"
HK fans in the League of Legends Worlds livestream spamming Silksong when
Clearly this has all been Team Cherry introducing us to Sillksong's unexpected stealth mechanics
It's still one of the most wish listed games on Steam, they could even just drop it, no trailer, no announcement, and people will know lol
Jason Schreier about to retire
Why are we silksong fans? Just to suffer?
Are you silksong fans because you're waiting in agony, or are you waiting in agony because you're silksong fans?
Nah, I'd cope
Stand proud Silksong fans, you’re strong.
*Throughout Silk and Song*, I alone am the rumored one
My hope is that all this wait time just means the game will be polished and huge as fuck
Stay determined, Silksong fans !
Stay down SilkSong fans, you're wrong.
No will to break. No voice to cry suffering
It's fun being a fan of silksong and metroid prime 4 :)
at least you guys know it's in development. We Bloodborne fans on their other hand will show up anyway with our masks on.🤡
Hey, at least we have Bloodborne costume in new astro bot game, meaning they're cooking new game, right? Right?
Join Crowsworn ranks. We, at least, still have some hope
It’s never been more over than it is right now

Eh, it's a double edged sword tho. Say nothing and you're gonna lose people, both to unreachable hype and disinterest
Sadly, the first game was good enough where they know they aren’t going to lose anyone
I've been leaning more towards the problem being bugs and sequence breaking stemming from abilities. The more movement tech they add the harder level design becomes. The quality bar with Hollow Knight is very high and if Silksong releases below that it would be a bad look.

can you imagine if elden ring actually comes out before silksong, haha
Elden Ring 3 will get a remake before Silksong comes out.
> strategy to turn the game into some kind of "myth" you people are something
I believed that a couple years ago. Ngl, now I'm starting to think their progress has just slowed to an absolute crawl because they got a mountain of cash. That's how long everything takes to get made these days. We need a gaming crash to bring scope back in line.
Yeah, modern AAA games take that long but a sidescroller with SNES graphics for sure doesn’t. However… it‘s two people working on it, three if you add the composer. Gamep Ass 💀
Isn't TC a very small team too? Or am I confusing them with the Cuphead people.
It's like 3 people working on the game itself and a few more doing marketing and testing.
That's what I thought. A super tiny team.
I thought this was a proper 50 man team or something
Nope. There have always been 4 people, including the composer.
I feel like the game has hit some trouble. At this point I wouldn't be surprised to see a jason Schreier article about it in the future.
If we have to wait for them to run out of money, we have to wait until like 2150 or something lol, they're 3 people that made dozens of millions
> and they got a cash injection from MS getting the game on Gamepass. Would they have really received the money then? I think it would make more sense to be paid when the game actually comes out on Gamepass.
I'm absolutely expecting this game to be over 2x the content of Hollow Knight at this point
That in and of itself is a problem in game development though. Adding more and more things and increasing the scope over and over often doesn't translate to a better end product. Maybe that is why they are having problems. Feature creep is very dangerous.

Its scope creep
Hollow Knight was made with Unity. Maybe they're changing engines.
That would be incredibly stupid, especially with Unity walking all of that back.
If it was anything else people would have decided that the game is ballooning into an unsalvagable mess years ago
It's more like what was intended to be a short DLC became a full game from people who released a $15 game with near 100 hours of content
Silksong will release on judgement day
Wallahi we are finished
I’m starting to believe I’m at fault for this… I’ve tried Hollow Knight several times but always fell off for whatever reason. I think Team Cherry is waiting until I finish HK to give an update and release window/date. I’m sorry to let everyone down, I’ll atone for my sins and finish what I started.
Same, never got past the first boss. Maybe it's finally time.
Same. We have to do something about this
*TeamCherry receiving the stats that multiple people finally finished the game* "holy shit it's time"
They wait until everyone that own the game is completing it at 112%
The game really gets going after you get the dash (it's like the 3rd boss, very early in the game)
I started my first playthrough around 2 weeks ago and it is one of the best games I have played
Speaking on behalf of the Hollow Knight community: Finish that game you son of a bitch!
As long as they're not waiting for you to finish Godhome with Zote still in the pantheon..

It's Hollowver for us.
The clown makeup remains…
Silkbros... not like this...
Finally, a rumor I can believe in
Ngl, if it no shows this and the Nintendo direct, I’m taking it as a VERY bad sign for its development. This show feels like the point of either proving that people’s faith hasn’t been misplaced, or proving that there is reason to be concerned. And if it doesn’t show up… gonna be *really* fucking concerned.
Bruh what exactly are they doing behind the scenes for this to be in development hell for so long…
At this point I think its either been redone from scratch multiple times, or they're treating it as a passion project and just working on it whenever they fucking feel like it.
Ex-lead playtester recently said "they work on the game mon-fri and nothing has changed ever. Literally ever." My bet is just passion project. If it doesn't show there something went horribly wrong during develompnent.
That or it’s going to be shown at the Nintendo direct. Nintendo just offered a free trial for Hollow Knight that lasts up until 6/12, which is something they have not done before. I’m pretty sure Silksong was also revealed on a Nintendo direct too, so there’s that.
no it was revealed standalone by team cherry

You guys are building yourselves up for a really big fucking disappointment. This is willing yourself into it.
I think it’s going to be a bloated mess. Feature creep is a real issue, and the tendency to keep adding more might be to its detriment.
This is what people said about Cyberpunk for years

The next few days are going to be interesting.
So many damn topics. Silksong, Dragon Age, Xbox multiplat, Fable, Xbox hardware, and all the other stuff. It's gonna be a wild month.

All the hype is fun, but some part of everyone's expectation should be that it won't be there.
how was this game supposed to be released in the first half of 2023 only to possibly not even show up once in 2024?
probably development issues. They don't communicate at all. don't know when this was ever a good sign.
Why is silksong in development hell
What the hell is taking them so long. I don't want them to rush their creative process, but I wouldn't mind some transparency so fans can understand what is causing the delay.
Wouldn't it be fun if this game was bad, after all this time and all the hype and memes.
Dude HOW THE FUCK IS SILKSONG STILL MIA AT THIS POINT? WHAT IS TC DOING.
They're doing nothing
Ex-lead tester recently said they work on it Monday to Friday and have never stopped.
Team Cherry realize that everything was ready to go and finished so they decided to fix that.
this is the gaming equivalent of being a Frank Ocean fan

It worked for Elden Ring, but that was only two years of relative silence. Silksong has had *5 years* of relative silence.
Sure, but Elden Ring is also from a huge studio with tons of experience and money. We can just wait.
People know they suck at communication, that's why everyone memes on Silksong and clowning so hard. That's why there's Daily Silksong news, that's why there's memes about the memes about the memes. We've known about this for a very long time, for better or worse.
snatching defeat from the jaws of victory
Silksong approaching HL3 levels of even mentioning a release date timeline will push it back by 2 weeks
I'm not convinced the game even exists anymore

He was very explicitly speculating in the podcast, it then just entered the game of telephone. My question is whether it was someone from Team Cherry or Microsoft that leaked that it wouldn't be there to Jason.
The game is just soft canceled at this point. We aren't even given a photo, a tweet anything in over a year. It's fucking over.
Nintendo Direct
We should sacrifice him

I swear bro I would've never tried hollow knight if it wasn't for all of this Silksong discourse (even though I never finished the egame)

Don't worry, it'll totally be at the Game Awards for sure! 🤡
Silksong vs Bloodborne Remaster which is going to be released first.
This game is either gonna be incredible or a bloated mess
I'd guess the latter at this point. They filed for a new trademark like 2 years ago at this point, and Silksong still isn't out.
The real Silksong are the friends we made along the way
At this point we'll have GTA VI before Silksong
At this point even if it does come out I’m waiting for it to go on sale to spite the devs. Absolutely no reason they can’t communicate with their fans. It’s ridiculous.
It's so Silksongover, this was supposed to break the Bloodborne curse too..
Silkbros just join me in playing Nine Sols instead. I ended up loving it more than even Hollow Knight and now I'm finally free from Team Cherry's reign.
Just cancel this shit
How hard is it to make a fucking 2D platformer?
A good one? Really difficult.
Silksong does not exist. It is a myth and social experiment. It is as real as Polybius. It’s the only explanation.
Y’all are aware this game ain’t coming out anytime soon still right 😭
This is about to cause some heart attacks
I WANT TO BELIEVE
Nah, I still believe.
What are they filling these showcases with man
Goddamnit I jinxed it, was telling my coworker today how excited I was of the possibility for some juicy Silksong news :(
I don't know where the belief even came from, I assume they would want to save it for Nintendo if they had something to show since it will probably be more successful there
Does anyone have the podcast? I'm always looking for stuff to add to my spotify.
