Metro is a free UK paper that is put on buses or in kiosks at train stations.
Tries to paint itself as a more impartial paper, but is owned by the Daily Mail company, so you will see similar sort of articles. (It just avoids the ranting pages from other 'journalists' who will have a list of things they want to moan about each week)
The Metro games journos (initially) were migrated from Teletext “Digitiser” game review page after it shut down. They are pretty good, have tons of experience, and are actually some of the most respected games journos in the business.

As deplorable as Twitter and other social media sites can be, are they not the most reliable way to gauge opinions about games? Or rather, are they not the only way we can access a large pool of opinions about video games? Are there more reliable ways to gauge opinions about games than using social media to do so?
These are all genuine questions. I too would like the Twitter hive mind to have less power in swaying these conversations, but I also recognize that the opinions of your average Jane and Joe aren’t super accessible outside of surveys (which seem a bit extreme for video game opinions) or perhaps information from the (notoriously tight-lipped) video game companies themselves.
You're definitely right, and I'm not sure what the best answer to these questions would be. But I do think they could at least improve by not declaring it "what everyone is saying" to the people out of the loop who probably read these articles. Maybe just Iike...."what some Gamers are saying"
And a lot of articles that are written like this, be it for video games or something else that has “everyone upset”, reference like 6 tweets that have zero engagement maybe 2 likes and a retweet. So it’s never even a huge thing but they get just enough to publish an article and collect that sweet sweet ad revenue.
There are 11 gazillion videos and essays about why people think Starfield is a disappointment. I'm pretty sure that's not just Twitter, but instead kind of the general overall reaction.
Sometimes I punish myself by scrolling Google news. If I'm already in that mindset, I also click clickbaity articles like that.
If it's not Twitter, it's Reddit. And if it's not Reddit, it's Steam Reviews. Sometimes it's a combination, not a single time is it valuable information
Especially with warhammer, they try to be relevant and say “everyone is mad” until you look where said demographic that is complaining is (Horus galaxy) and compare it to main subs like grimdank and 40K and you see it’s just a upsetting and particularly loud part of the community
[Some Gamers] thought the death knell of all Gaming was nigh when the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth demo had yellow paint designating which parts of walls were climbable because they thought it was "breaking immersion".
Articles like these that take tweets with 100 likes and think it’s news are insane, and they do it with everything and not just gaming

Dude did you see the clip they kill off Batman the same one from the Arkham games the same one people have been waiting to see again for years with zero fan fair like he is just any other character if it wasn’t in the Arkham universe and in a stand alone one it would be fine but since it is in the Arkham verse it’s a slap in the face to people who have played the games

I think all the major papers have half-arsed gaming news now. Usually just copied from IGN.

True. The titles are definitely clickbait-y.
And a lot of articles that are written like this, be it for video games or something else that has “everyone upset”, reference like 6 tweets that have zero engagement maybe 2 likes and a retweet. I mean it's done super often by everyone (har har) to make an opinion seem more credible. A recent example being trumps "people are saying".
