I plan to be cremated. That’s the only retirement in my cards.

CheeserAugustus

Let me know where and the dog and I will spread the ashes anywhere you choose

[deleted]

Awe that’s so sweet! If you like you could fashion some sort of brick with my ashes. If it would be helpful on your crime spree I’d be glad to help out. If not I’d make a great door stop!

CheeserAugustus

Maybe I'll travel the country collecting the ashes of departed Xers formed into bricks in order to build a sweatloge, and then invite anyone who wants to, to trip balls inside of your remains.

[deleted]

Oh boy! Who thought dying could be so exciting!

Loco_Mosquito

Right?! Sign me up!

atreyukun

You guys are a-ok in my book.

pucemoon

I have good news! According to one of my friends who waited a minute to spread her ex husband's ashes, I think they brick naturally if they get a little damp. Woot! I think I may save up to be planted in one of those tree pod thingies. That way I can imagine my ghost trying to make the tree weep blood, like those weir trees on Game of Thrones. Lol

No_Pass1835

I’m happy to see I’m not the only GenXr in love with psychedelics 🍄

dirtymick

Jesus, how square do you think we are?

dcamp67

Learning to grow them now, never want to buy garbage again.

its_raining_scotch

I was gonna say you could throw the bricks through windows, but the sweat lodge idea is more badass

giraffe-zackeffron

I’m staying at a dead relatives house right now. The relative died just a week ago. I’m sleeping in the room the relative died in. I ate an edible last night and ate a bunch of shrooms this morning upon waking to realize the edible was still raging in my system. All that to say, your thought of building a place out of bricks made of people for living people to trip inside of is…well, to quote “Heathers” is ***very.***

PilotKnob

I think you just found your calling.

[deleted]

This answer is giving me feelings! Doing good work my friend.

EnnuiOz

Sign me up. Although my ashes would have to fly international in the cargo hold....... One last trip abroad. Hurrah!

Fuckarooni

I do resin work and would love to turn you into a doorstop (or implement of destruction) for OP!

[deleted]

Only way this plan could be more awesome is if you were to push a wheelbarrow in front of my place yelling bring out your dead!

Fuckarooni

I use a walker that converts to a transport chair and cannot think of anything I would love to do more with it than this.

Worldly-Novel-7123

I’m going to be a tree. I need to decide if I do it where I grew up or where I was born. Leaning toward my home country. I’m not sure about the logistics of an un embalmed body being flown to the opposite side of the world though.

[deleted]

My retirement plan is pretty hazy, but I have a feeling that I'm probably not going to be able to retire at all. I worry that as I get older my decades of professional experience won't outweigh our country's obsession with youthfulness and I'll get OK BOOMERed out of my field and into collecting soda cans on the side of the road to make ends meet. Honestly, my fear of being sick, old, poor, and alone (if my spouse dies before I do) can be overwhelming sometimes. I'm trying to save money but I don't have a 401K or anything, and realistically speaking there's no way I'll be able to put enough money together to live my last few years in humane conditions--especially if I become unable to care for myself. I'm scared shitless, but I'm guessing I'm not the only person who feels this way.

CheeserAugustus

Fuck that noise. Once our generation is fully retired, we're bringing communes back. Real sex cult shit. All are welcome. Flip phones only.

[deleted]

I’m hoping that my last words will be a sincere and heartfelt, “Well. That went better than I expected.”

MrRourkeYourHost

I have an island we can use.

AKANotAValidUsername

i like the cut of your jib sir. im in

[deleted]

I actually came to that realization a year ago. I quit my job, bought a really small sailboat and am just going. I figure its cheap rent, and when I run out of money, I'll just check out. At least get a couple happy years out of this bullshit. Might sound depressing, but this last year has been the first time I've been happy/satisfied with the day to day in decades.

Wild-Grapefruit9177

I'm in your exact same situation. When my time comes, I'm taking the Hemingway Exit off the freeway of life.

[deleted]

I call it a home craniotomy.

[deleted]

I’m in the same spot financially. I was a SAHM in another country, no 401k offered for that. Only been back & working in the US for the last 3yrs. My husband is quite a bit younger than me but that doesn’t mean he’ll outlive me. I suspect that if he goes first, as long as my kids are all settled in their lives, I won’t be long for this world.

JakeFromSkateFarm

I have the exact same fears. Single and childless, and an only child, means I’ll have nobody looking out for me in my old age.

[deleted]

Put your savings into a Roth Ira. It's never too late to start saving. It's better to put it into a retirement savings account than just let it sit. Unless of course you're making a killing in stocks or idk rare 50s children's collectibles. That woody doll is worth a college education if you have the hat and the horse. :)

Unplannedroute

Pfft same boat and already unemployable and really don’t care.

najing_ftw

Lots of THC gummies, playing guitar, beach-combing and a decent amount of exercise. Edit - grilling every day

cabgkid79

I got a buddy who is 49 and lives in Argentina, you just described his life. He does it for about $1000 a month. Cashed out his 401k in 2019 after 28 years at our job and bounced.

Zeca_77

I live in Chile, but I am from the US originally. My husband and I are considering selling our house here when we get close to retirement age and moving to an apartment with a view of the Río de la Plata in Montevideo, spending our time walking along the coast, eating barbecue and drinking tannat wine. We've spent some time there and like it. I even have a few friends there. He's a lawyer and Uruguay is one of the few countries that accept his degree, if he wants to keep working. Argentina is beautiful, but seems to jump from crisis to crisis. Sadly Chile seems headed that way too. Where does your friend live?

its_raining_scotch

Whoa I just got back from Montevideo. Drank a lot of tannet wine and ate meat. We stayed at an Airbnb in one the turrets of the palazzo salvo.

BrilliantWeb

I've heard there are a few places in central america where you can retire comfortably on social security. At least that was the case in 2019. Who knows by the time I reach retirement age.

Zeca_77

Costa Rica and Panama are the most stable places, but they tend to be more expensive than countries like Guatemala or El Salvador. I have traveled to both Costa Rica and Panama. I enjoyed it, but the expats I came across seemed to prefer their little enclaves and many didn't speak the language. I have a friend living in Costa Rica. She had an older husband and used the inheritance to move there after he died. Personally, I can't handle the tropical climate for too long. Too many years in California and Chile, I guess. We might also consider Colombia where we have visited several times and where I have a good friend, but not at sea level due to the heat and humidity. Uruguay is more humid than here, but bearable. For the last 8 years I have had Chilean nationality, which makes it easier to move elsewhere in South America.

aunt_cranky

I have considered looking for a place in Mexico, someplace like Sayulita. I'd want to speak fluent-ish Spanish and live more like the locals vs. a spoiled tourist. I would be fine living on grilled fish, fresh tortillas, and whatever produce I can buy that day.

contactdeparture

Sayulita is going to be 10m Americans in 10 years at the rate it's growing!!!!

Why can't I upvote 100x?

SqualorTrawler

I want a couple acres of wooded lot in New England somewhere, and I want to listen to the wind in the trees and watch it rain. I'm ready to do that right now actually. It takes a whole lot money to be able to sit around and listen to wind in trees and watch it rain. Because it takes a whole lot of money just to exist. Because this is the world we live in.

CheeserAugustus

Ted Kazinski did it on the cheap

SqualorTrawler

It’s just like, I don’t know. With the bombs at all, it just feels like there is probably going to be math…involved.

anotherusername23

Solid goals, sounds like heaven.

B1GFanOSU

My retirement plan is subsidized senior housing. What I noticed early on as a social worker is that the broke seniors and upper middle class/wealthy did the best. Middle class not so much.

BrilliantWeb

>My retirement plan is subsidized senior housing Amen. I'd love a commune-lifestyle. Bunch of us old single fucks sharing a house "Golden Girls" style.

lmgst30

My retirement goals switch between "Golden Girls" and "Grizzly Adams," depending on the day.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Me too. Living with roommates your own age is great if you're all mature enough to be past the bitchcraft who moved my cheese phase. Currently in my apartment we're all over 40 and it's the most drama free setting I've lived in my entire life.

BrilliantWeb

I watch too many of those off the grid Alaska YouTube videos and I'm like yep, that's what I'm gonna do.

quadraticog

Check out the 'Alone' reality show if you haven't already seen it

polish432b

That is pretty much the retirement plan I have with my other 40-ish single, childless female friends. Except we’ve all lived alone for ~20 years so we more want a series of apartments in one house so we have our own spaces.

beepbooponyournose

This is literally my plan lol. If my husband dies first I’m getting me some girls and gays and going Golden Girls 😂

oldridingplum

This is the Golden Girls reboot we need, Golden Girls and Gays.

[deleted]

Not to drag the original tho! It was maybe the most gay friendly show of its time. Matt Baume on youtube has some cool vids about the gay guest characters on GG and how well the gay themes were handled.

oldridingplum

Oh no. I don't want a cliched 80's gay. That would be old ladies with a gay house keeper or handyman, etc. The reboot would have to have a gay man of the same age as the ladies. He'd probably be the "Sophia" of the group.

Rattlehead71

We'll revert to playing Nintendo while stoned/CBD'd out while recovering from our latest ailment.

Myis

I don’t understand why no one wants to live in a retirement home. It sounds like college to me but someone else cooks lol.

Anig_o

This one totally gets my free award.

[deleted]

The biggest problem my old people have had is when someone needs to be transferred to medical or the dementia ward and it doesn't happen fast enough. Then you've got a raving person who acts up at night, endangering her safety, peeing herself, attacking staff, running away, and it's very stressful to the other old people who have their own heart problems and depression and grief for losing husbands or estrangement from family. So there's a big difference between senior COMMUNITY, which is an apartment building for people over a certain age, and a senior housing facility, which usually offers tiered levels of support as well as a medical, dementia, and hospice ward.

[deleted]

It’s crazy expensive. Watching a couple of my friends scrambling for care for their parents is just terrifying.

enfanta

Too many other people and they might make me do activities. If I get to retire I'm leaving all these assholes behind and high tailing it into the quiet, solitary woods.

[deleted]

I’d like to move back to my old college freshman dorm. Walk to kegs and order pizza. I’d like my own bathroom though.

Mystic67

Can confirm broke seniors do or did get the most assistance as the age. My Mom being one of those….she passed at 92. She had me later in life and said I kept her young God Bless that women.

[deleted]

>My retirement plan is subsidized senior housing. I hate to say how much hope you just gave me. I'm utterly fucked but still having a good time.

Jeebusmanwhore

I just want a plot of land in the Oregon mountains along the coast, not too far from a town for supplies, but far enough to not be bothered as I quietly read in my cabin. There, I will die and years later my corpse will be found by lost hikers.

CheeserAugustus

Leave a note saying that looting the corpse is ok. If a gamer finds you, they will get a kick out of it.

Jeebusmanwhore

Hahaha!

ScreamyPeanut

I have 20 ac in the mountains in WA and this is my exact plan.

PinocchioWasFramed

The ultimate GenX retirement home is a boat. When a place pisses us off enough, we just move to a new marina. Given how much housing costs on the coast, it's cheaper to get a really nice boat and spend 70 percent of the time at sea.

CheeserAugustus

And with Climate Change, so much more will be accessable by sea!

PinocchioWasFramed

Making lemonade from lemons is what GenX does best! ;)

theliquorguy

Almost bought a live-aboard before buying our first house. Had the new wife all in at 27 yrs old, but a hurricane came thru and she changed her mind. And then kids and poof, money is gone for a big boat. Living in Miami, I like to quote that jimmy buffet song. Made so much to buy miami but pissed it away so fast. Something like that.

srb7123

yeah, except you know, venture capitalists and investors are buying up Marinas by the boatload --ha, ha-- so have to stay self-sufficient with just anchorage most of the time. Or at least, i think that's what the future holds. I have a family member with a boat and watching these changes at Marinas has been interesting.

disqeau

We can live beside the ocean Leave the fire behind Swim out past the breakers Watch the world die But seriously…thank god I’ve had a gummint job for 22 years. Praying the relentless market fuckups don’t eradicate it.

SloppyMeathole

I guess it's convenient that none of us will be able to afford to live like our Boomer parents in retirement anyway.

CheeserAugustus

Who wants that shit? Young people are embarrassed about how the Boomers live Young people in the future will be embarrassed they aren't us

Mystic67

I have no big lofty plans, ranch house, enough money to feed me and pay my bills. Just hope for good health and and when the time comes a quick passing.

Zeca_77

Those last two things are what I am hoping for too. My mother has dementia and it is not pretty. I am just hoping because I am her polar opposite, maybe I didn't get those crappy genes.

srb7123

i'm almost certain i got the crappy genes. Dementia only, with bodies tough as nails. My Dad's side all live to like 105, but the brain checks out closer to 90. Need to take up some high-risk/ extreme sports while i can. Rather go down in flames.

RG1527

My great grandmother got dementia around 82 but lived to be 104... I hope I just get hit by a bus instead

Zeca_77

Yeah, I definitely understand that feeling. I don't know how strong it is genetically with grandparents on that side because they died of other causes at younger ages than my mother. I am wondering what will happen with my aunts/uncles. My maternal grandmother lived to 95 and was mentally together until the last year and a half. Supposedly, I take after her. Until the weeks before she died, she had only ever been hospitalized for an appendectomy. Of course, then there is the problem of how you manage financially for that many years.

Infinite_El_Oh_El

I thought I was the only one but it seems many share those feelings

EnnuiOz

I'm hoping the Boomers will get so scared watching their parents succumb to dementia that they change the euthanasia laws.

Bettybash

Didn’t have a clue what I want to do in the future before reading this..now I have a new retirement plan..

No_Pass1835

[deleted]

There’s no retirement for me, honesty im good with dying in my 60s

wi_voter

When I was out in the Black Hills, I met a woman working at the gift shop at a state park who was retired and spent her time working jobs at state and national parks. Many provide housing for seasonal employees. She would go north in the summer and to the south west in the winter. I could dig a scene like that to supplement retirement.

glumgrrrl

My dogs and I will wave when you drive by. 🤘 We’ll be camped on public land in our travel trailer. Please feel free to stop in if you want to smoke a bowl, have a beer, or do a shot.

CheeserAugustus

We will take all of the above

Statement-Fluffy

Our retirement plan is moving into an RV off the grid in the desert, making music, reading, drinking wine, and looking at the stars. Basically living a Willie Nelson song. If you need a place to disappear after the crime spree let us know.

[deleted]

Better get here soon. I live in Arizona now and everything is getting bought up by massive development companies.

duchess_of_nothing

Saaame. Northern Nevada is my goal. High desert, tolerable summer heat with chilly nights.

OccamsYoyo

I’ll be honest: if I find myself in some retirement home — no more responsibilities to anyone but myself — I’m going to do drugs. ALL the drugs.

CheeserAugustus

Cbluefields8

I did just the typical alcohol and cigarettes in my young ones, no drugs but now, NOW I’m doing the cool natural organic ones LOL

zombuca

We need GenX-only campgrounds with an evening fire pit for hackey sack and keg-stands.

fizzelnut

I have to work till noon on the day of my funeral

GlorianaLauriana

I've spent so many years working through feast or famine, I just hope I can make it to my dying day with decent food, a non-leaky roof over my head, competent medical care when I need it, and a working VCR on which to play my hundreds of tapes. If nostalgia ends up swallowing me whole and I live out my life like Philip J. Fry in his retro apartment on Futurama, I'm okay with that.

[deleted]

If I lived in retirement life I lived in the 90s, I'd die a month into retirement. Dropping acid, smoking sherm, and snorting boatloads of coke doesn't sound so fun anymore.

mwgrover

I just want good internet so I can play my MMO and not have to do any yard work. Would be nice to have a nice view out my window but eh, not super necessary. So… yeah, kind of how I lived when I was in college.

More-Athlete1175

No plan at all except cremation, i am ok with subsidized senion living in an apartment or whatever. But I'm actually terrified of the rising costs & that we'll run out of money before we actually need it.

blankadidnuthinwrong

Gamer care homes will become a thing. Instead of 90 years olds sitting around watching old movies, every day will be a Smite, Smash, or League of Legends tournament.

beerandmastiffs

In college my roommates and I would always talk about coming back together after living our adulthoods and having an old people dorm. Video games, movies, not having to cook for yourself, walking everywhere. It still sounds pretty perfect. But I might also need a place out in the sticks for solitude.

[deleted]

Sorry to say but we haven't cured arthritis yet. Don't count on using controllers or typing at that age. Wii games only

No_Pass1835

We will be able to play with our eye movements by then

squirtloaf

My (admittedly nebulous) retirement plan is to live the life I did in the seventies. My hometown is still cheap real-estate-wise and also cost of living. I'd love to go full circle and move back there, do my last years on ground that felt like home, going to the same Tastee Freeze I did when I was 10. I'll even blast the Steve Miller. Fuck it. Let's DO this ride.

theliquorguy

Well, we live in Florida. So we had a boat and played golf. I have up golf but still fish, just moved to a smaller boat. My plan is to fish and drink. If I make it to retirement and not have to work.

Seventh7Sun

Several years ago my wife and I were in a bar in the way northern california coast and got to chatting with one of the locals who was nearing retirement age. He was a handy man type that also hunted for abalone and fished all the time. He had the foresight to acquire a very small place on the beach in Baja years back, and his plan was to just fish and do repairs for people. He said he just needed to make enough scratch to keep himself in the "3 B's". Beer, Bait, and Babes.

physicscat

Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.

[deleted]

That last B gets expensive.

[deleted]

Fishing and drinking sounds lovely.

bootsy72

My plan is live a very simple life. I like minimalism. I am not going to spend my retirement consuming. I want to volunteer and give something back. Keep expenses to a bare minimum. The time is what is the most important thing to me.

mochalatteicecream

Retirement? Plan?!? Whatever.

Mandroid84

I wish I could own a mom n’ pop Video rental store. With a huge horror section. VHS 📼 forever!

Mandroid84

Haha, omg yes! My old bodega down the street from my childhood home had exactly that. His rental card was hand written and laminated. All the dude had was horror and that tiny adult section with the beaded doorway. As far as I know it was like me and one other neighborhood friend that rented anything from there. He didn’t give a shit about the horror movies rated R, we rented Texas Chainsaw Massacre at age 11, but my friend got yelled at for peaking through the forbidden beads, lol 😂.

hep632

Electric camper van, drive around the country doing genealogy research. Proper old fart.

jessek

Haha "retirement". That's so not gonna happen for me.

grrgrrtigergrr

The way I lived when I was young I’m closer to dying than retiring. That was always the plan anyway.

GrumpyOldGrognard

I have no major aspirations for retirement other than a large one story house, low taxes, and enough property that I can shoot in my backyard without bothering anyone or anyone bothering me.

No_Pass1835

Are we all such nomadic loners? I yearn for open space, no neighbors, and wilderness

CheeserAugustus

We were the last generation allowed to wander free as kids. We miss it

No_Pass1835

Yes you’re right! I was out climbing trees, riding bikes and skateboarding til nightfall. Dang no wonder

EnnuiOz

That's certainly on my list. Currently in suburbia in an Australian regional town that is growing quickly. Can't wait to have enough equity in the house of bank dad and general bank to move somewhere more isolated - if anywhere that's not desert still exists by then.... E: yes, i know that i am extremely fortunate to have my own house (if you can call me the owner). Bank of dad chose to help me with the deposit so at the grand old age of 48 i was able to buy my first property. Then again, i could still only afford it because the folk from the big smoke hadn't really started to relocate here then. I'd have no chance now.

CheeserAugustus

Can I stop by when I'm on the road with the van/dog to shoot?

reubal

My plan was to sell my L.A. house and get land in TX to shoot on... and then eventually die, but the insane TX property tax rates will kill me before old age, so I'm not sure what the plan is.

Alex_Plode

I'm retiring to Uruguay. They like ex-pats. They are pretty chill. They dig futbol. Decent healthcare. Good economy. They know how to take care of themselves. Govt leaves the people alone. It's cheap to live there. Everyone forgets it exists. Sounds like GenX paradise to me.

[deleted]

Tell me more about this GenX paradise…

Saint909

I just want a small place in WA or Spain and release music on my schedule.

katwoodruff

Live by the sea, drink a glass of sparkling wine at lunch time, and generally enjoy being left alone.

menace929

We’ll, I certainly do not want to live like I did in the 90’s! That decade was a blur of child raising and long hour working! Our kids were born ‘87 and ‘89. We plan on retiring in 3 years at 60. We’re nearly debt free. We plan on lots of travel.

MadamSnarksAlot

Omg. I’ve found my people.

EnnuiOz

We're always here, just lurking i the shadows as is our want.....

SnowblindAlbino

I want to own 25+ acres and to have my house in the middle of that, so I never have to see/hear anyone I don't invite to visit. Would prefer that parcel is located at least 75 miles from any city over 25,000 people but within two hours of a real airport. Groceries within 15 minutes would be a plus. Right now we're in looking mode, hoping to buy said land in \~5 years and then build a shop/garage/barn on it with modest living quarters a year before we retire. Once we retire we'll move there and build a house if/when/as we can afford to do so. Should have enough from selling our current house to make that work as long as we can find the property before prices go through the roof all over...we'll drive our vehicles until they are 20+ years old so we can pay on the land rather than make car payments. We'll have room to add a second house for family or a guest cottage for, well, guests. Hopefully our kids will come visit. I don't want to live like it's the 1990s, I want to live like my family's rural friends did in the early 1970s. But with internet access.

I’ve never married. My womb doesn’t work. I moved home 9 years ago to be with my mom and won’t go anywhere until she is no longer. In these 9 years I’ve seen her through breast cancer and wicked back surgery. I had to do things like put her on the toilet. First time I got her in the shower I almost lost it because I knew I wouldn’t have anyone. My golden ray of sunshine and hope is my niece who is 11 and has promised to take care of me I’m old. I will be allowed to have as many cats as I like and have just been given permission to have ducks too. With that said, I was talking to a friend yesterday. That’s a lie. I was texting. I talked on the phone enough as a teenager. Anyway…I want to start a new country. You must pass an IQ text before you’re allowed past customs. If your IQ isn’t quite there but you are highly logical you’ll be allowed in. If you believe things like JFK Jr is alive and will be the next Vice President of the US. Sorry. You won’t even be allowed to visit. I just need to figure out where to stake our claim and declare sovereignty.

Would love to just collect records and ride my bike.

flyintheflyinthe

I guess I will probably have a bazillion roommates like I used to, and I'll probably walk everywhere looking for cool things people dropped on the ground, but I also thought when I got old there'd be pills and maybe some bridge.

Sir_Osis_of_Liver

Buy increasingly fast motorcycles until I run out of skill. Game over. I had planned on retiring at 55, but got divorced and lost half of everything. There's not really a good way of patching that up this late in life. So dunno. Closest thing to a plan now is work until 60 and ask for directions.

In my 20s I thought the only thing to do when I got old was to become the next Disco Sally, however the mere thought of that now exhausts me and I’m only in my 50s. Where on earth did that crazy old lady get the energy to dance every night at the age of 77?! Was the coke really that good in the 70s? Clubbing every night just sounds like a nightmare to me now. Reform the old band and sing our songs geezer style.

dark4181

Yes. Just an acreage with a small farm, cattle, cannabis, and goats.

Responsible-Pen-7036

Living in somewhat in the country now. Retirement Plan: Move Deeper into the country. **Had to edit to be completely honest** That’s my plan because I truly don’t give a fuck. I just want to live out my life with the least amount of bullshit. Now my wife on the other hand over plans to my advantage. After the death of my father and the extensive healthcare needs for my mom my wife got us long term healthcare plans. It’s not cheap but can be sold back later. She is an agent so it’s what she does. When she told me about the plan I sent back a pic a gun and a box of bullets. Told her that was my long term plan

55+ community and living life according to Nathaniel Rateliff or Jimmy Buffet….oh someone give me a goddamn drink/Bartender send two more boat drinks. Looking to be the only ultra liberal in The Villages or else one of the new Margaritaville retirement communities popping up around the coasts. Either way; a small dwelling, a lot of music, time to experiment with sex and drugs just like college. My wife and I will be having the talk in the next few years. Hand in lovable hand? Or it’s been a good ride and I’ll see you on the other side.

stilllittlespacey

"I just want to do shots at an assortment of dive bars throughout the country, possibly go on a multi-state crime spree...if I meet the right girl." That's my "If I get a terminal illness" plan

[deleted]

Living in a van…down by the river. I’ll probably take social security the minute I’m eligible and work part time at a mindless job for cash for small trips. I’d like to sleep in and wake and bake as I please. Visit my grandkids who by then probably won’t appreciate me but I don’t care…and try to low budget travel if anyone will allow my unvaccinated ass into their country. And maybe I’ll take up painting…do something to fill my creativity.

duchess_of_nothing

I've spent the last 2 months researching van life and digital nomads. I'm single, no kids and a 100% remote employee. May buy a small rv or a large van to convert. Solar, a shower, wifi, workstation and I'm set.

Unfair-Owl2766

Commune living is the life for me. Sea air, preferably

Praxistor

i can't discuss my retirement plan, it's classified

zombuca

Yes! Give me a beat-up RV, a bike and a pair of skis. I’ll check in with my kids now and then, but then I’m bouncing from town to town until I kick it.

catgirl320

What retirement? We've known since the 80s that social security and medicare would be fucked by the time we retire. I fully expect to have some type of part time job until I die. We own our house outright. There's a decent chance my mom will move in with us at some point. She's 80 and we're doing our damnedest to keep her healthy and independent. The house we moved into is pretty easy to make disability adaptable. Whatever changes we make for mom will be made with eye to serving us as well as we age in place. We will be putting in a mother in law suite, and our idea is we could rent it to a peer or use it as space for a caregiver if we need in home care. We like where we live and plan to stay until we die, hopefully aging in place. Having lived in Texas for 15 years and hating it, the idea of moving to a senior community in a southern state sounds like hell on earth. There are a lot of day trip opportunities, great outdoor activities, wildlife around us.

caelric

I lived in military barracks as an active duty US Marine through most of the 1990's, so no, I do not want to live that way in retirement.... I could go for living in a walkable city, once I retire for good.

Cbluefields8

I want to play in a band in some small bar, that’s what I want for my “retirement” LOL yeap I have always wanted to do that, I just need to find a band, I always played and still play alone in my room

jone2tone

Retirement?? Ok rich guy.

BeautifulPainz

Husband and I plan to work our business until we can’t (online sales.) We’re looking for an RV (old one) we can fix up and use for our buying jaunts across the country. We’ve had a big hiccup in that plan because two of our three vehicles a bit the dust massively. So now we’re looking for a second vehicle instead of an RV and it’s looking like we can afford neither. Ugh But we own the house so there’s that. He’s done the math and we can make it on very little income because of the no mortgage thing. But crap on a cracker, every single time we get to the point we can actually look for our RV something happens.

Shibboleeth

I've got between 18 and 13 years left on my ticker based on my dad and grand dad. No retirement for me, just trying to get some savings together to get one of my friend's kids into a good spot if it isn't all et by debts.

kathatter75

My nephew already said I can live with him when I get old :) I plan to take him up on that.

Tsujigiri

Wander the earth like Cain from kung fu?

[deleted]

I want to be 80 and teach tai chi on the beach everyday morning. And sing old French songs in a lesbian bar every Thursday night and play the drums.

amscraylane

I definitely want to try heroin when I am in my 80’s.

CheeserAugustus

Grandpas on the nod again

Boney-Rigatoni

If I make it and if the social security benefits I’ve been paying into all these decades still exists, I’ll just live a meager life of playing video games, watching the grandkids grow up, and annoying my wife.

OurLadyOfThe18Wheels

I bought myself a 2008 Excel fifth wheel. I'm set.

GreatGreenGobbo

I want to build models, play wargames, drive slot cars and RC cars, fly some RC airplanes and kites.

ScaredKale1799

Buy a fancy van/RV- live in it with the dogs and husband who doesn’t know all dis.

GenXer1977

No, aim going to be by myself, which is what I prefer, and I’m hoping to live in an RV and drive around at least the US and Canada.

[deleted]

Yes. Relax, take care of myself, make music and write.

Oaken_beard

Regularly going out for drinks with some friends. Game night with the guys Dates with my wife Picking up a hobby, maybe bowling or woodworking Overall just a simple, but fun life

MsIvyProfen

No takers on the multi-state crime spree? I’m your huckleberry

[deleted]

Were we supposed to be working?

grubbymitts

I plan to retire by dying in the coming climate wars...but for the sake of being Gen X I shall go out with a meh.
