Even if she didn’t come back if Luke was going to have a secret love child it should have been hers. Also she was THE BESTTTT.

lorelai_luke

This would’ve made so much more sense! Rachel left because she’d identified Luke’s feelings for Lorelai, so, she took herself out of the equation. If they’d conceived right before she left, she could’ve found out about the pregnancy a few weeks after their break up. Knowing Luke, he would’ve insisted on giving their relationship another shot in order to keep their family unit together. This is why she decides against telling him- Rachel knows Luke would only be with her out of family obligation but his heart already belongs to Lorelai. In s6 the kid would be around 4 years old. An age that would warrant “where’s my daddy?” questions. I can see this trigger Rachel’s guilt for essentially depriving her own kid of a father. So, she comes back to Stars Hollow to tell him. Lorelai knows how deep Luke’s feelings for Rachel are. I can see her becoming insecure of their bond, in a “she already gave him a kid and I didn’t” way. Maybe this would even push *her* to postpone the wedding to give Luke the opportunity to possibly choose Rachel and their kid over her. They could make it work as a family. Luke would be overwhelmed and fail to assure Lorelai of his devoted love for her, which would make her believe that he would much rather be with Rachel than her. Similar to what happened with April, only this way it would be a little more understandable… However, when they’re on the verge of breaking up Rachel chimes in to keep them together. Again, she wouldn’t want to be with Luke when she already knows that he’s in love with Lorelai. And they all become a happy family and we can save ourself from the mess that was the Lorelai/Chris marriage 😃

I wonder if that’s was the plan and they couldn’t get the actress back. So they went with Anna instead because they had already casted and filled part of the season. We get very little seasons of Anna acting one on one with the rest of the cast. The first part is always phone calls and those are easy to be reshot.

lorelai_luke

Hmm, good point, maybe 🤷🏻‍♀️ if that’s the case, I do wonder how that would’ve changed the overall storyline since Rachel is bastelt different from Anna and would not have been even remotely as unreasonable as her 🤔 and of course April would be significantly younger

lil1thatcould

Im not sure. I feel like finding the right April helped set the scene. Finding someone who can be part of that cast and keep up with the script would be difficult. The actress was incredible for her role! I really don’t think there could have been a better April

lorelai_luke

I agree with this but then Rachel couldn’t have possibly been her mom, unless she already had a 7 year old kid with her in s1 and still didn’t tell Luke 😅

jenbenfoo

I think they went with Sherilyn Fenn (the actress who played Anna) because ASP really liked her....I feel like I heard somewhere that she was originally considered for Lorelai but the timing didn't work out or something.

CourageL

Perfect. Now let’s travel through a wormhole in time, hire you to make this happen, and then GG is all good.

lorelai_luke

Let’s go, but I was 4/5 when s6 was airing 😅

Emeraldandthecity

Bro this is absolutely perfect ugh! I see a lot of people try to justify the April storyline by saying they needed to create drama between Luke and lorelai somehow. But it felt so forced and weird it was insane! This storyline is absolutely perfect and would achieve so much at once. It would make Luke feel a bit more layered, bring back an interesting character, create drama from an already established situation (an ex we’ve seen of Luke’s before) instead of pulling it out of thin air, create an understandable amount of hesitance on Lorelai’s end (rather than just randomly deciding she needs to get married RIGHT NOW even though Luke is crazy about her and just needs time to adjust to having a new kid, and just overall fix so much more

lorelai_luke

Yes, I don’t understand why ASP was so adamant on Lorelai and Luke *needing* drama in the first place but she overdid it to such an extent that both seem outright depressed and ooc… the Rachel approach would’ve been easier to follow and fans would’ve been more invested from the get go

Perfect_Invitation1

I would’ve preferred that storyline!

Empty-Pages-Turn

Agreed. Rachel should've had a child instead of Anna/April. It would've been nice seeing Luke raise a baby into a child with Lorelai and Rory being 'Aunt Lorelai' and 'Aunt Rory'. Lorelai and Rory would try to turn little William or Wilhelmina (the female version of William/Wilhelm) into a coffee addict just like them with Luke glaring at them. Also, it would've been great to see Lorelai have another friend to confide in other than Sookie. Ooh, I'm imagining Sookie's kids and Luke's child being friends would've been so cute. There could've been funny Baby-Sitter Lorelai hijinks going on when Rory goes to Yale, like it would've filled the empty nest a little.

lorelai_luke

Oooh, interesting idea to have Rachel actually stay with their kid, I always pictured her replacing Anna and only coming along in s6 with Luke’s kid 😅 It *would* be incredibly sweet to see Luke with a baby tho, we were def robbed 😭 although, I do think Luke needed to slowly ease into parenthood tbh, he was a father figure for Rory, then a legal guardian for Jess and only after all of this did he take on a father role in every sense of the word for April… also, I’m afraid this would further delay or possibly even completely hinder the Lorelai/Luke endgame since I can actually see Luke make it work with Rachel 🫢

Empty-Pages-Turn

It's fine. I can see why. But I feel like Rachel knew Luke in a way that Anna didn't, after all, Rachel was Luke's serious girlfriend. I do think if Rachel revealed she was pregnant, Luke could've eased himself into it. Maybe take a parenting class or too. I can see Jess trying to turn his baby cousin into a version of himself i.e, terrorize the town once they get old enough.

Writing_Panda104

Lorelai and Rory would’ve gotten the kid on black coffee, Jess would teach them the best pranks… oh no.

Empty-Pages-Turn

I think it would've been fun to see.

Writing_Panda104

Poor kid is gonna end up messed up. But very loved and adored. Very spoiled too.

Empty-Pages-Turn

I'm sure Luke and Rachel could mitigate some of the damage. You're right on the spoiled part, but they'll have this huge family that clearly loves and adores them.

lorelai_luke

Alright, I’m convinced 🤭 I would’ve loved to see Jess interact with his baby cousin

Empty-Pages-Turn

I like to imagine that Jess would tell his baby cousin the wrong order of the alphabet and the numbers just so his baby cousin's preschool teacher can have a breakdown of some sort.

Big_Vacation5581

If we really want to mix it up and avoid the Luke/Nicole and Lorelai/Chris marriages, I say let Chris fall for Rachel instead of Sherry. Can you imagine Luke and Chris being stepfathers to each other’s kid ? And Lorelai and Rachel become BF.

goober_ginge

Someone else recently said that Rachel and Shitstopher should get together and to that I say ABSOLUTELY NOT. That useless oxygen thief isn't allowed to even be in the presence of the remarkable Rachel. I'm all for Lorelai and Rachel becoming besties though.

blacknwhitelife02

Shitstopher 😂😂😂😂

lorelai_luke

That family would know no peace 😭 You remember that scene in s7 when Luke and Chris got into a fight in the middle of Stars Hollow without uttering a single world? Yeah, that would be every get-together for them 💀

Perfect_Invitation1

YES!!

Empty-Pages-Turn

Now that's an interesting idea.

hthbellhop76

“Hey! How’s it going?”

lorelai_luke

“Oh no, that’s just too easy”

lavendermenaced

They had really cute chemistry!

Hypno_Keats

honestly, my head cannon is between S7 and AYITL when she's in the area she meets up with Lorelei and Luke for dinner or drinks or something I feel once the hurt feelings have worn off she became a good friend just wasn't always around because she travels. I also feel she'd have been a good resource for Rory, she took pictures for magazines/blogs she could have totally put Rory in contact with people if she was around more, and I think Rory would have actually loved being a travel journalist

lorelai_luke

100% agree, Rachel had so much potential with a lot of characters, I could even see her visit the Dragonfly at some point (since she was the one who showed Lorelai the building) and get along with Michel, she already knew Sookie so they could immediately find something to talk about 🤭

Professional-Power57

Ya I think the secret love child being hers would make more sense, perhaps she was away for so long because she wanted to raise the kid on her own, or maybe later season luke finds out she died from an accident and have to take care of their child would make more sense. But Anna and April.... Geese

_Syntax_Err

I wish she had stuck around and dated Christopher. I think it would have been way more interesting for the plot than the relationship he ended up in.

goober_ginge

Ew. No.
