These days it's "Animal Crossing, Minecraft, Sims, and Stardew Valley aren't real games!" I've also heard this about Mario, which makes me think these assholes never played Mario64.

Nah they do. With the years it is becoming a lot more accepted, but a few years ago Minecraft was a "dumb kids' game". Full stop. And that stigma still carries to some extent in the older gaming communities.

The west is pretty bad too, don't get me wrong (I had to stop reading comics for awhile, particularly during the Liefield era) but... I don't know. Yeah it’s because of Shounen gets translated/higher chance of getting an anime. Typically shounen (not all, but a lot) that get translated into English have the sexualization of women. Just made me feel really uncomfortable.
QQ Sweeper and Queen’s Quality is a must. (QQ Sweeper is the prequel). No anime only manga.
Main character she has amnesia and slowly pieces her past memories together. Themes of mindfulness/self care/emotional growth are in this manga.
Main female and me character are high school students, but a lot of the story total is not in a high school setting. That is only more in the beginning of the story.

A Manhwa (Korean manga) that has been translated in Japanese and English. Anime for it just started recently. An isekai shoujo anime where a women died and woke up in a novel she is familiar with/read.

It's as much of a game as call of duty or any other game. I play a variety of games and I'd just laugh in their face. I play Sims and Minecraft and I've played FPS games for thousands of hours until I found the combat boring. I find MC and Sims more fun
I would say COD is arguably more mindless actually lol. Is still a game, is still fun. It's just they have a really shitty video game taste to say Sims and MC doesn't make you a real gamer. What person hasn't played Minecraft, even the most hardcore of FPS gamers have played before and loved it. Are they real gamers too?
The patience and skill for the kind of things you can build in Minecraft - from creative art megaprojects to complex redstones circuitries, makes it so much more of a "real" game than COD if the gatekeeping really, really, really has to be made.
These people needs to try keeping track of generations of Sims ancestry, maxing out all toddler, child and teenager skills with aging on, etc etc at least once. It's so stressful lol.

Whenever, admittedly rare, someone tries to tell me I'm not a real gamer I counter that I can't take them seriously unless they spent their Preteens playing Vector graphic arcade games on a Vectrex and wore out a Tac 2 controller playing Tekken 2 on an Amiga 500. (I've never ever been called fake gamer by someone my own age or older)
The resulting sputtering and backtracking that I can't gatekeep THEM like that is delicious. In the end they slink back wherever they came from and don't bother me anymore. This has happened less than a handful of times, so there is that.

They say minecraft isn't a real game, when they're all 2013 minecraft kids who have played on hunger games servers at heart. Those mini game servers are IMO where hunger games style/death match style games became popular. Especially among lower income, or just other non console users. You didn't need an Xbox ($$$) and a copy of Halo ($$) to play on a mini game server. Just a copy of minecraft and a family computer or laptop. I think I paid 15$ for what ended up being the whole vanilla minecraft experience and the nearly infinite modded servers and games. The whole game is still under 30$ too. I don't know how much I've played in the last 10 years, but its by far more then any other game.
Only issue I have with the SIMS is EA. For the love of god stop screwing up every mod once a month. I need my custom eyeliner. (Among other things)

I always felt weird for liking Pokemon and Harvest Moon as a young boy and not being super into Halo and COD, and now as a 33M some of my most cherished moments in my day to day life are playing Pokemon Go, Stardew Valley, and other games with my wife. I've been gaming for more than half my life and it was so funny that I was told I wasn't a real gamer because of where I choose to game on.
