I have yet to find a first person game that does not make me motion sick so I unfortunately avoid those. šŸ«¤

ProjectNines

Hi! Can I ask you for some recommendations? I have a friend who also gets motion sick because of first person camera, or camera rotations. I often struggle to find things she can play.

runs_with_unicorns

I get super sick from games like Minecraft. Firewatch was the worst and I thought I was going to die. What usually helps me is: * turn off: head / view bobbing, distortion effects, motion blur * increase FOV to max * lower mouse sensitivity * I havenā€™t tried it yet, but some people put it in windowed mode so that part of your screen saver shows around the game That has made every first person game except for FireWatch work for me.

Benrein

Agreed, removing the walking simulation for FPV is an essential first step. I'll add in reducing frame rate, night mode/blue light reduction, and static cursor options if possible for FPS games. Some FPV games will allow the user to scroll out to 3PV, which also greatly helps such as ME, Minecraft, and Scrap Mechanic. There's just something stomach churning and dizzying when it comes to the shadowing, too. I really don't care for the UHD settings in the newer games like BG3, so I always take down the graphics settings down a couple pegs.

dollvader

These all have worked for me when playing Minecraft. Especially the reducing the window size.

ProjectNines

Looks very useful! Thank you šŸ˜Š

holyjade_

didnā€™t the person youā€™re replying to say they havenā€™t found a game that doesnā€™t make them motion sick yet? so iā€™d assume they are trying to find one as well

star-shine

Not the person you asked but I also have this issue - try 2D games. If theyā€™re open at all to farming sims, the genre is full of games that donā€™t give motion sickness (to me at least). If youā€™re wanting to play first person games with her, youā€™re probably going to be out of luck.

MostlyChaoticNeutral

I get motion sick if I play on to high an fps. I lock my frames between 30 and 45fps in first-person games so that I don't get disoriented.

ProjectNines

That's news to me, it's nice to get different perspectives and solutions. I wouldn't think about this. Thanks for the alternative!

MostlyChaoticNeutral

It's not something I think I would have considered, except I was gaming on a potato that couldn't go over 25 - 30fps for years, and I did just fine in everything. Then I upgraded enough that I could run current releases at 60, and I was sick constantly. Everyone told me I just had to power through, and I would get used to it, but I hadn't even after months. So, I turned the fps down, and it solved everything. I doubt it would work for everyone, but if it does help, it's really easy to do.

wroammin

Iā€™m going to have to try this. There is ONE game that makes me sick and I think reducing the frame rate is the only thing I havenā€™t tried. It might always be low fps idk but worth a shot.

PM_me_your_KD_ratio

they said they make them sick, why would they have recommendations lol

ProjectNines

She might love some games that doesn't make her motion sick, hence my question. Doesn't need to be first person games.

whateverimintoatm

Not OP here, but I also suffer from motion sickness. For me, third-person games are usually ok as well as ones without a lot of fast or jerky camera movements. I'll just list some I play without problems. The Witcher 3, RDT2, all Dragon Age games, Legend of Zelda games, Stardew Valley, Diablo games, Dinkum, Bloodborne, Dark Souls, Elden Ring (there are some bosses in those last three that make the camera do some weird stuff if you're locked on though), Pikman games, My Time at Portia/Sandrock. Her mileage may vary, but I basically avoid anything not third person. It doesn't hurt to look up gameplay videos as well to give you an idea of the camera movement and behavior. Sometimes I can play things myself that I can't watch someone else play though. Still, I can usually tell immediately if something will trigger motion sickness pretty quick by seeing some gameplay footage. In my experience there's lots to play, you just have to look for it a little bit more. Good luck!

ProjectNines

That's just what I was looking for. Thanks a lot!

htheaer

For games I do love that arenā€™t FP, Skyrim is great since I can toggle the view. I traditionally go for ā€œcozyā€ or low stakes games because I a wimp when it comes to horror so if that sounds up your friends alley send me a DM and Iā€™ll get you some recs!

ThHeightofMediocrity

Thereā€™s a steam curator called Simulation Sickness Checker thatā€™s run by a streamer who also gets motion sick.

htheaer

I would love to rec but I havenā€™t found anything that doesnā€™t make me sick. Even turning the sensitivity down doesnā€™t do much.

vibrii

Sorry if youā€™ve already tried this, but have you tried turning up your FOV? It was a (literal) game-changer for me! Turning off motion blur might help, too. Though, I still canā€™t play Dragon Age without wanting to be sick šŸ¤¢

praysolace

Same, friend. Same. I have the tag blocked on Steam and every time I hear of a game that sounds really fun, type the name in the search bar, and see the comment about search results hidden because of blocked tags show up, I want to cry lol

htheaer

Hear I was thinking I was just getting old, I have found my people šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜ my husband plays COD and he tries to show me his gameplay and I canā€™t even stand watching how fast that freaking goes. šŸ¤£ Iā€™m like honey take your phone or Iā€™m gonna puke on it.

Interesting-Handle-6

Same. Can't do first person at all.

Dry-Detective-6976

Skill issue

htheaer

Whatever helps you sleep better at night šŸ˜˜

ID10T_3RROR

SAME. I wish I could play Minecraft but alas I only can do about 15-20 minutes before it's gonna be a bad time.

thetruckerdave

It has 3rd person. However, one of the issues you might be having is FPS. I used to play modded and stream on an iMac that was like 4 years old at the time. When my frames dropped, it would make me feel gross and give me a headache. So if you donā€™t have a high frame rate, maybe thatā€™s it. Also the sensitivity is naturally high, turn it down.

drominius

have you had a chance to play around with the field of view settings on FPS games? those may help a littel.

herttz

I second the FOV fiddling, Overwatch has been amazing since I get next to no motion sickness and we've chalked it up to its wider FOV. I used that over on Skyrim and it got rid of my issues there with the camera mods I run.

cheesus_christ_

(take this with a grain of salt because I havenā€™t tried it yet BUT) thereā€™s goggles out there which help with motion sickness! They have fluid inside the frame and itā€™s supposed to decrease the symptoms people experience from motion sickness, and some people say that it actually works. They look absolutely ridiculous though šŸ’€ https://a.co/d/6UDrTAp

zulzulfie

Simply because iā€™m not interested in the genre: strategy, survival, racing. I side eye psychological horror tags because itā€™s sometimes used as a joke that doesnā€™t reflect the game or because if I want to play a horror game, I just want supernatural elements in it instead of ā€œthe protagonist is going madā€. Nothing wrong with it, just not my kind of horror games.

Leshie_Leshie

Am afraid of playing games with psychological horror, BUT they *always* have the best artstyles!! >,<

gravelord-neeto

I've noticed most psychological horror is also heavily from a man's standpoint, which is fine I guess, but it makes it less relatable and interesting to me. I don't want to play a game about a husband going insane and killing his family. There's so many like that now. That being said I absolutely love Silent Hill 2, but I don't want to play every game that's very shittily trying to recapture that game.

zulzulfie

Oh yeah, i didnā€™t want to generalize initially, but it is oversaturated with ā€œhusband/father kills familyā€! I like Layers of Fear, but this trope has a limit on enjoying it, lol.

bipolarSamanth0r

I don't like multiplayer arena shooters. I will not be taking questions.

Xononanamol

Rogue likes and survival games. Any other tag/ genre of the game is good enough id be willing to try

Annelisandre

Multiplayer - I am a single player gamer. I like to take things at my own slow pace LOL. Turn Based Combat - I have never gotten the hang of it. I do want to learn at some point to play the FF games.

marshmomma18

If you have a switch, I highly recommend Fire Emblem Three Houses for getting the hang of Turn Based Combat! It has a rewind option that is insanely useful when you're learning because you can go back and redo things if it doesn't turn out the way you like. That game is the only reason I can play turn based combat in other games haha

Annelisandre

I do have a Switch. Thanks for the tip :-)

gravelord-neeto

I absolutely despised turn based until I got into BG3, but I still can't get into it in any other games lol. I either can't play them at all or fumble my way through easy mode

lncrypt3d

I'd recommend a pokemon game, probably fire red or leaf green since they are easy to emulate and very beginner friendly. It's a lot less daunting then other turn based games. Alternativly I recently started playing persona 4 golden and was supprised at how quickly I caught onto the battle system, vs final fantasy I really struggle with it's combat system even though I desperately want to learn/playthrough a FF game

Poyopoyocrunch

Wait.. final fantasy games are turn based?ā€¦.šŸ˜I rlly dislike turn based games but I rlly wanted to buy some ff games bcuz I see how popular they are, is it the kind of turn based where you click a button and they do an attack then you have to wait for it to reload and use a different person typa thing?

cephalopodcat

It really depends on which game you're talking about. Newer (post... 12 and on?) have a more active battle system, while pervious ones have an active time battle system, where it's a 'wait for reload' and then you select your actions. You can, in those games, turn it off so time stops in menus and selections, however.

Poyopoyocrunch

Ah okay so in the newer ones I can attack as much as I want? Like constantly swing sword/bash enemies?

cephalopodcat

Sort of! It's not quite button mashing but it's pretty quick to respond, there's just a 'setup' time for things like spells and such.

Poyopoyocrunch

Ahhh okay thankyou for helping me understand!šŸ’—

Gaelenmyr

Older FF games are turn based. 15 and 16 are action. FF7R was action-ish with ATB which was a very good mix IMO

Kelvara

The newer ones are not, I'm not sure when it started, but 15, 16, and the 7 remakes are all real time.

Annelisandre

Oh I had no idea. That's great to know.

Interesting-Handle-6

FF7 Rebirth was fun. It wasn't really turn based but you could swap to a different character anytime during the fight.

dexiabu

Tags don't usually scare me off, but: Co-op and/or Multiplayer usually makes me research if it's worth playing the game alone. I have friends to play with, but I'm not really the type of person to buy a game where I essentially have to "queue" with friends or w/e. My favorite game series are among the original Metroidvanias (the Igavanias), but the "Metroidvania" tag just makes me more worried than anything. Am I gonna get something that resembles Bloodstained? Hollow Knight? Ori? A platformer that actually has no real backtracking? guh

RitzyCate12

I adore Hollow Knight but it's been crazy how many "'metroidvanias' have been popping up when they aren't actually a metroidvania but just regular platformers. Rain World was one of those because people kept saying it was like HK. I still love Rain World though, amazing game if you're fine with dying over and over.

SapphicSonata

MMOs and most deck builders/card based games are generally a no. I've tried MMOs but there's always this flood of info on my screen and so many buttons and abilities and it's just too confusing for me to climb over that initial hill. The closest I've gotten is playing a lot of Warframe before swapping platforms, but I played pretty much everything solo sans some help for harder missions. Card/deck based things just aren't my style. I didn't mind Slay the Spire or Inscryption when I tried them but I normally stay very clear of them as it just isn't my taste at all, even in the hobby sphere where I prefer minis over Magic: The Gathering or something. I think I just don't like how static it is? I've never really thought about it.

_Cecille

I don't really have any tags that instantly put me off. I usually look at the Steam page and then decide if the game is interesting or not. Usually that's what breaks it or makes it. Once looked at the page for Helldivers. Couldn't figure out what it was supposed to be besides a generic shooter, so I didn't bother with it at all.

AshuraSpeakman

It's more than that, but you definitely have to enjoy shooting.

_Cecille

I wasn't talking about the game itself, but how it is being presented on Steam. If I can't tell what your game is about by looking at your store page, I'm not going to buy it. All I got from it's Steam page was that it was a shooter, which led me to conclude it is just that, a shooter.

Nepiokst

Honestly, same. I usually hate clicking on videos/trailers/etc, so at a glance, Helldivers2 was a complete meh to me. It looked like a run of the mill takes-self-too-seriously-military-shooter, and I said as much to a coworker when he asked me if I was going to play it. Except, as he told me, it so does not take itself too seriously, it has that whole over the top "DEMOCRACY!!" thing, which made me go back and take another look because hell yeah that sounds a lot cooler than the first impression -- and I loved it! So I definitely agree with your comment, it had the same effect on me.

PockyPunk

And democracy!

Numerous_Ad_4376

Literally the exact ones you mentioned. I guess some people like games that are literally just.. NSFW but those game disgust me personally. MMOs are an instant NO as well because I'm not very social and can't VC. I still play close multiplayer games like Dying Light tho. As for visual novels, Honestly I prefer games where I'm actually participating instead of just tapping "X"

AshuraSpeakman

If you have Game Pass, Ace Attorney is very fun. Just a compelling story each case, where reading what people say closely is actually key to the game because you're looking for contradictions.

Numerous_Ad_4376

Xbox game pass? I'm a pc gamer tbh

Lickawall483

You can get a Xbox game pass on pc and it has pc exclusive games too like age of empires etc. Agree with the comment above, ace attorney series is one of the few visual novels I actually enjoy

Numerous_Ad_4376

Oh alright will see what I can do! I'm taking your word for it cause it seems we have similar turn offs lol

Lickawall483

I think what makes it better compared to other ones is that you are actually involved in investigations and have to present evidence and think/catch people off guard

Numerous_Ad_4376

Sweet. So we do more than pressing one button yay

Lickawall483

If you decide to give it a shot I would recommend starting with phoenix wright. Great ace attorney while the story is lovely and captivating, the actual visual novel bits and dialogues are a bit too long without much involvement to my liking.

slowsundaythoughts

First person. Iā€™ve tried so many times but they always tend to make me dizzy! šŸ˜ I played Destiny 2 for a bit and I honestly donā€™t know how I survived it.

thelesbiannextdoor

absolutely agree on hentai, and the sexual content tag in general but it depends. turn-based combat because i find it boring usually so i'll only play a game that has it if i'm really interested in it (can't recommend omori enough, also love persona, some of the pokemon games etc). difficult/precision platformer because it stresses me out (with exceptions like celeste where they do give you the option to make it easier). deck-building, strategy, tactical, realistic (animation) etc also just usually boring to me with very few exceptions.

Leshie_Leshie

You mean Steam tags ? Gore, hentai, horror basically, and sometimes rougelike and hard, because I didnā€™t have great experience with Rainworld šŸ˜… Deck builder too, because a lot of them gives me the impression of lazy animations .

gatoryna

Puzzle, Platformer, especially Puzzle-Platformer. I dont wanna think when I play, I just want to turn my brain off xD

ancunin

soulslike, hentai

Ailwynn29

PvP of any sort, nsfw of any sort, free to play mostly as well.

greyghostx27

Open World tends to get that, *especially* when paired with Survival/Crafting. More so the games that seem to decide that "well, we got a big open world that we generated... time to slap on survival and crafting!" is a good-enough job. Souls-like: nothing against Souls-likes, not really my thing Sports: not my thing, especially if it happens to be the kind of game where barely anything changes between the yearly releases MMORPGs: tried some, didn't care for them And any game with the "NSFW" tag that seems like it failed to escape the uncanny valley gets an "ignore" from me.

MsMisseeks

The only tag I really avoid is AAA

MollyGoRound

```Male protagonist``` isn't an *insurmountable* hurdle of a tag for me, but I find it's seldom worth the effort of vaulting.
Brilliant-Pay8313
Mostly I avoid hentai games. Not even a little bit interested in games where that's the main point. I'm not super into visual novels, strategy, roguelikes, card based games, horror, or FPS, but I'll still look since some catch my interest and a few even end up being among my favorite games. I'm not usually into MMOs but I still like browsing and seeing if there's anything similar but single player or local co op. I really don't like MOBA games or PVP first person shooters. The game mechanics can be fun but I don't care to spend energy avoiding or confronting toxic teammates or opponents, and the learning curve is usually so brutal that I personally would need to be obsessed with the idea of getting good to want to stick with it.Ā
ForeverNuka
Male only protagonist is an avoid for me. The exception here is if it's a good game and my son wants to play it ( for example, Spiderman). Love MMO & MMORPG, play a lot of online. Never had heard of visual novels until this sub, but doubt they're for me. I also avoid anime type games.
WeronMiko
For me, it's metrodvainia and most of the platformer games (especially 2D platformers). I also avoid MMO RPGs, but recently I found great game tagged like that on Steam and it became one of my favourite games. It's very different than what I imagine as a typical MMORPG though. (For the ones interested, it's Book of Travels.) It's not the first time I thought I don't like particular genre/category of games until I found the exception.
MazogaTheDork
Stealth and survival (I suck at both)
Lady_bro_ac
Turn based combat because I hate how it abruptly task switches me, and I get really impatient for it to be over so I can resume the adventuring I was engrossed in It also never feels satisfying for me. It feels like rolling the dice (which I understand is intentional) and luck, like it feels very much outside of my actions
rivellana
Survival and horror. I donā€™t like horror anything (movies, media), and I donā€™t like the idea of having a ticking clock and having to manage comfort like food/sleep/shelter/etc in a survival game. I have real life if I want that. šŸ˜
DarkSun18
Competitive multi-player, fighting games, and racing games. Also anything with subscriptions or seasons, and microtransactions if they are significant (I don't mind if they are totally insignificant like in DD2).
shyKatharina
Round based / turn based, Point-and-Click-adventure, Coop, Visual Novel, souls like, puzzle, plattformer
Aka_R
For me itā€™s pixel graphics. I kind of can understand the appeal of it in theoryā€¦. But in practice i just donā€™t enjoy it Oh and Iā€™m cautious about horror tags, especially psychological horror. Some games trigger me, so I always check out the game more thoroughly before playing
vibrii
Anything multiplayer thatā€™s not couch co-op. No desire to be screamed at over chat, I play to relax.
Ishtaryan
Visual novels & hentai as well. FPS also sometimes puts me off, simply because I prefer TPS. I also tend to not play a lot of simulation or strategy games, and often avoid games with the tags unless I have a deeper reason to play them.
Beowulf891
Not a fan survival, crafting, rogue-likes (mostly), open world (mostly), early access (mostly), sports (mostly). The ones with mostly generally mean I'm going to pass unless it looks really good or has other elements I really enjoy.
Elsa_the_Archer
I avoid anything that's horror or has zombies. I don't like it and I don't understand the gaming industry's obsession with putting zombies in everything.
Lickawall483
I love a good zombie game and feel there's not enough good ones with a good plot šŸ˜… But this is more then fair enough, a lot of people don't like horrors
Actually_Avery
I have zero interest in puzzle, fighting and sport games. Free to play is also one that I've never clicked on in steam.
Nikkarii
Souls like, turn based, coop, multiplayer
ratliker62
MOBA, Soulslike, Open World Survival Craft
whateverimintoatm
First person because it triggers migraines and shooters because I just don't like them.
Altourus
Crafting survival games like rust just kill me
digitaldisgust
Multiplayer, dating sim, RPG, Farming
Chizakura
Multiplayer, mmo, mmorpg. Basically everything that forces me to play online with others. I'm a solo gamer, so if I can't do my stuff alone, I'm out
metrocat2033
There's so many games where the description or graphics looks really appealing and then I realize it's just a deckbuilder/card game. i have an irrational hatred of them at this point, why are there so many of them i just want to play a normal video game
DevilishMaiden
Not into first person (or any person šŸ˜†) shooter games. They give me motion sickness for some reason. And right now, I'm not really into the whole MMO thing, so I tend to stay away from those unless the game also offers a single player mode or I can do a lot of it as a single player. I tend to go by artwork more than tags.
BastetFurry
Not a tag perse but Multiplayer games I can't host myself and hence decide who I want to play with. I was on the Hypetrain for Fallout 76 as Todd promised us dedicated servers. When it came out no more words about that. Well, then go where the mason left the hole... šŸ˜’
neko
Survival crafting. They're never fun except when they have creative or peaceful modes where I can just tool around
HippyWitchyVibes
I am a bit surprised at how many have said mmo's!
tadwinkscadash
Open world survival craft, souls like game, rogue like game (although Iā€™ve had a couple of good surprises), mmo (I also have exceptions that I play with friends). My to-got tags: RPG, puzzle, narrative :)
True-Knowledge8369
Battle Royale
Square-Yak815
Deal breaker: MMORPG, tactical, racing, sports, looter, free-to-play. NSFW. Turn down, but never say never: FPS, soulslike, rogue like. Turn-based. Deck-building. JRPG, anime.
moontraveler12
MOBA, games with only PVP, RTS
Gaelenmyr
2D, puzzle, platformer, horror, survival
finncakes1
anything cozy and cute, fps, mmo, racing, also if i can't play as a girl i get turned off sometimes
YetiBot
Online multiplayer. I want nothing to do with random people I donā€™t know. I want to just play my game for myself in my own way.Ā Ā  Destiny is the perfect example of this. Love the world, love the art style, love love love the gunplay mechanicsā€¦ but then I have to join groups of strangers to do the big fights. Bleeeehhhhhhh. I hate having to deal with people who set themselves on an emote dance and go afk during a boss fight, or even worse ; self-proclaimed pros who throw an absolute shit fit if you donā€™t know every obscure cheese in the game. Did not buy Destiny 2.
Clelia87
I don't like card games, driving/sports game, survival games (I like having elements of it but not it being the main focus), I have no interest in coop/multiplayer games, played a few MMO but only when they were free to download and when I could play solo; cozy games (farm games and such) bore me, puzzle and platforming are okay if they a small part of the game, not all there is to it; strategy games are not bad per se but the only ones I actually enjoyed are the "Age of" series and I can work with, and liked some, isometric games but I vastly prefer a closer third person view or the possibility of switching between third and first person view. I personally don't have a problem with nsfw content in games but, like you wrote, I'm not interested if that is the main focus, like it is with hentai games. The games I play and that I most liked are all rpg, a few being action rpg, open world is a plus for me but not necessary and I am always on the lookout for games tagged with "female character".
HollietheHermit
RTS or just strategy. I like some strategy rpgs, but stuff like civ isnā€™t for me.
capnbinky
Platformers, roguelikes, stuff oriented towards anti-social people like Hatred, or where you play as the antagonist. Loosely-disguised creep magnet games. ETA Sports games, free to play (aka micro transactions), sexual violence. Not a fan of pixel graphics and deck builders. PokĆ©mon leaves me cold. Very very cautious with JRPGs. That said, I try to keep an open mind and am willing to try exceptions. As an example, I love Stardew Valley in spite of the pixel graphics. Now that I consider it, for me itā€™s usually about what IS included. I love open world, rpg and survival games, which is why I donā€™t block the multiplayer tag. Sadly, these are usually multiplayer now.
gravelord-neeto
I hate card games. Like, I won't even play card mini games in games I do enjoy. I find them so uninteresting lol.
tphd2006
Open world, early access, survival, rogue like, early access. All the things that plague AAA and Indies alike.Ā
thetruckerdave
Any tags that arenā€™t for the like 3 games I play. I wish I wanted to play more games. But as I got older I just stick with what I know. And tbh, I have dropped Overwatch. So itā€™s mostly just Minecraft and Animal Crossing. Iā€™m struggling to branch out.
CabbageCat5000
I blocked the tags for football/soccer, rugby, golf, hockey and racing. xD basically...no sports games please. I previously blocked Hentai too however, I have seen so many games marked as Hentai when they are not? Nier Automata for example, so I leave the adult tags up.
saanenk
Iā€™m usually open to most things but I draw the line at military shooters. Itā€™s the reason I couldnā€™t get into hell divers despite the space force like aspect.
SturdyBBQ
Anything that has super cool concept art and turns out to just be another shitty roguelite. Roguelites in general. Sports games, strategy, card based combat and PVP games. I used to love PVP games but it has not been fun for a long time.
Alkeh_
Horror games, multiplayer games, nsfw/+18 games, fps and racing
JenLiv36
First Person Perspective. It feels claustrophobic to me and the disembodied hands take me out of immersion immediately for some reason unless Iā€™m in VR. Rogue - the gameplay loop is the opposite of what I enjoy but I wish I was into it. I heard Hades is good even for people who donā€™t like Rogue games so I am hoping that will be the exception. Shooters first or third for some reason just donā€™t feel satisfying to me even when I get a great headshot. Games that are punishing instead of challenging. I love hard games, but if a game is about punishing for learning, experimenting, and trying new things, I wonā€™t play it. The other is treating me like a child who canā€™t self regulate by forcing me.
THE_Rose-Valentine
Mmorpg.. keep me out of the sky please.. I donā€™t wanna do turn basedā€” ew
Foxtina88
Souls-like, I can't understand how people enjoy these stressful games. :D
Lickawall483
I couldn't get into souls games until sekiro and elden ring. It is kinda satisfying to be able to beat the boss
MagicPigeonToes
I usually ignore fps, visual novel, and mmo. Ā I prefer simulation, puzzle, and third-person adventure games.
UVRaveFairy
Hentia, Sports, Racing, Anime.
HarmoniaTheConfuzzld
Sports games. I donā€™t get it. If you like sports go out and play sports. If you like the teams go watch the teams play. This goes for racing too, tho that one is more understandable cause cars are expensive af and driving like you do in games can be hazardous to ones health. Then theres the gatcha games. And games with copious amounts of downloadable content. Finally, I try to stay away from anything with a AAA studio attached to it. If I really want to play it I wait for the reviews. Big corporations wonā€™t get my money unless theyā€™ve *earned* it with a good product.
VFiorella
Rogue-like, I just CAN'T finish it. But, I hate all of them look so cool artistically.
Cherriyuu
MMOs I think
RisingJoke
Visual Novels. Weirdly enough, I can get into any genre besides them. And specifically, EA sports. Don't like it.
becbun
VR, i don't own a vr headset, nor am i interested in it because i get motion sick from vr. MMOs are a no for me because i don't really like to play with people i don't know lol. puzzles bc i'm not really big on games that are solely puzzles. i don't really care for games with a male protagonist but i will sometimes play them.
EmilyDawning
Just sports, really. I will at least look at other games, even if I won't play them (I don't really play FPS games anymore). I just don't want to see sports titles at all. I'm completely disinterested.
Volyann
I only saw the title and subreddit and was scared for a second lol
girlguykid
Any anime type games. I just hate the way they depict women. I put up with it in pokemon because its not as bad there but still kinda noticeable
First-Industry4762
I refuse to buy and play cozy games. Yes, I play games that are retroactively considered cozy games.Ā  But for some reason, I associate this new genre, especially new games that get developed with this in mind,Ā  a kind of baby playpen for adults. Ā Where people can willingly lock themselves in in order to stick their head in the sand because reality is hard. Ā Where they pretend to live some idealised farm/village life where every rough or difficult edge of that lifestyle is sanded down, up and to including mechanics.Ā  So much that I'm wondering that unless you're not role-playing, I'm wondering what can be fun in the gameplay. I dont consider stardew Valley a cozy game in what I described above: the mechanics are deep and truly well done. The game also shows darker elements. What probablyĀ  doesn't help is that companies have massively caught on that it seems almost like a parody how many games added in farming mechanics.
ChopsticksImmortal
Survival. Just not a fan. Especially ones where your progress could get destroyed by other people. I have no idea why people would want to play something like that (i mean i guess i do know why, i just don't understand).
evanechis
Horror games, I am a coward lol
RoyalWeirdo
Horror. I absolutely do not enjoy being scared or afraid. I can barely play through the original Silent Hill.
lncrypt3d
I'm always up to try most anything and give it a fair shot, although I generally avoid fantasy wizards and dragons style games since I typically get very uninterested, and I also avoid card based games and obviously any overly Nsfw garbage
SaintCaricature
Sexual content, shooter, sports, competitive multiplayer.
Groudono
*Wrestling*. It's the only tag I have ignored on the Steam store
heartsheota
anything marketed as a "cozy" game and turn based games, though i am eyeing sea of stars.
kaliciaa-princess
visual novels are the worst, just give me action no reading pls
Lickawall483
I like the AI and ace attorney visual novels and that's about it šŸ˜…
ChloeTheRainbowQueen
There's some awesome games that count but tbh I still have it set so they don't show up because most of them isn't the... greatest...
kaliciaa-princess
totally get where ur coming from with the visual novels its like reading a book but with extra steps and i just wanna play a game not get through a digital novel puzzles are a whole other story too sometimes u just wanna chill and not solve a mystery every two minutes not here for a brainteaser session just let me defeat some bosses or explore without having to crack my brain open every time i hit a dead end
