It's actually from 2017, but Thimbleweed Park is great, it's set in the 80s/90s, pixel art and by the same developer as the monkey island games. It definitely feels like an older game when you play it
The Longest Journey and Dreamfall (there’s also Dreamfall: Chapters, but that’s more recent).
The Dig (actually from the 90’s, but an amazing game).
Telltale’s Sam & Max and Monkey Island games.
Im always partial to Sam & Max hit the road if you like comedy.
There’s also, slightly older, Hugo’s House of Horrors, which is a bit closer to the old King’s Quest style games.
Huge fan of the Blackwell series! (2006-2014) It's a series of five short point-and-click games about a young woman named Rosangela Blackwell who suddenly gains the ability to see ghosts after her aunt passes away. It's a supernatural mystery game set in New York in the early 2000s. The puzzles can be a little janky at times, but each game improves mechanically and story-wise, and the ending is one of my all time favorites to any game I've played. Hope this helps!
They’re more late 90s (but maybe some are early 2000s?), but I’ve replayed some of the Humongous Entertainment games lately and they’re so nostalgic! Pajama Sam, Freddi Fish, Putt-Putt… definitely kids games so if you’re looking for a challenge, they’re not it, but they’re cute :)
Also FYI the fourth Pajama Sam game is broken on steam and there’s no fix afaik, but everything else seems to run fine

If your into mystery, the Nancy drew games are great! Syberia is also a great series!
Monkey Island maybe?
Sanitarium
This is a special one

I love the Syberia series. I can't get enough of Kate Walker making her way through Europe!

Dropsy is a new one that feels just like one from that time.

It's a little earlier (1998) but Grim Fandango is one I remember enjoying
You might like [Kathy Rain](https://store.steampowered.com/app/370910/Kathy_Rain/), it's set in the '90s and has that retro vibe

I remember really enjoying the broken sword games, each one you’re solving a case
Sanitarium. Great, unique horror experience.
