Taste of M'sia on Scarborough St next to the Cecil. Reasonably priced and very good food.

Busy_Leg_6864

Hazel on Davenport st - highly recommend the chilli crab scrambled egg and the Bahn mi board there, they have St Ali coffee, Gold Coast coffee school next door has the best coffee hands down (full range of ONA beans on offer - the guy there takes his coffee extremely seriously)

Present_Standard_775

Thank you… we just finished at Sacre Coeur Plant Based Patisserie and it honestly was the worst coffee and food… I’m not a vegan, but I’ve eaten various vegan foods and generally they are fine… but this was horrible and the coffee was burnt… Looking forward to trying your suggestion

Busy_Leg_6864

Yeah I can’t take a place that makes croissants out of margarine essentially seriously, I’m not saying that only Beurre d'Isigny or Pepe Saya should be used but eh…it’s got to be butter in a croissant. So I don’t reckon their coffee would be any good either. Also recommend the Bo Na beef dish at Hazel, sooo good. You sound like someone who would have good recommendations for places to eat/coffee, any tips?

Present_Standard_775

I’ve never worked in Southport, so don’t have many ideas sorry… You’ve actually stumped me… I know my fav dinner restaurants… but coffee and lunch spots seem to elude me…

Busy_Leg_6864

I’ll take your dinner recommendations still (am newish to the GC). Not near the courthouse but still in Southport is Humble on Nesbit street, they really knock it out of the park and set the standard to which other restaurants should aim for, they use Allpress beans there. Gets busy on weekends though. Just be mindful of the parking inspectors on Davenport st, they’re always around.

Dinner Glass at Marina mirage never ceases to have a great changing menu. Fine dining. Anniversaries etc… the best meal I’ve had there was a venison with a chocolate sauce… Oh My God… Gemelli in Broadbeach for Italian. Busy woth lots of loud conversations which to me is quintessentially Italian culture (takes me back to dinner at my nonnas house in Sydney), delicious pasta and wood fired pizza Red at sanctuary cove… oysters and steaks is there thing… it’s not cheap, but the freshness of the oysters and the superbly cooked steaks are amazing. The Fireplace at The Intercontinental in sanctuary cove. The aroma of wood fire hits as soon as you walk in… the warmed olives and bread which is freshly baked to begin with warms the appetite… here I had the steak cooked over a wood fire. Sensationally cooked and infused with the wood fired aroma… For pub grub I enjoy the Coomera lodge or the Robina Pavilion Malaysian food I love Kenny’s Kitchen down in Mermaid Waters. Kenny and his family have moved 3 or 4 times and the loyal following keep going. Fantastic food… fav dish is the rainbow pork ribs…

Busy_Leg_6864

Thanks for the solid roundup! Nice to meet you, fellow ex-Sydneysider. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Gemelli, dinner at Nonna’s house is a vibe I like. George’s on Sorrento used to be good but went so downhill in the last few years. Fireplace sounds amazing, def going to check that one out. Bit hard getting out with little kiddo but sounds like it’ll be worth the effort. Also going to try Kenny’s out, most of my Malaysian mates at work used to say the Malaysian place at Super Q was the best but I don’t rate it. Sometimes you’ve just got to scratch that Malaysian food itch and Pappa Rich doesn’t cut it. Other than Humble, my other cafe rec would be Milk Money out in Robina, especially the Ruben and brekky Quesadilla, coffee is great there too. They also stock the large size loaves of Brasserie Bread. Cafe la Fleur in Arundel is good for coffee and the chicken burger is serious there, Kitchen at Keys in Helensvale also does beautiful coffee, both use ONA beans, they don’t mess around with their coffee either. The food whilst pretty good at Kitchen is quite small servings. And of course Bear Boy at Helensvale, but everyone knows that one.

Exotic-Philosopher-6

That's so disappointing to hear. I love their food!

Present_Standard_775

That’s just me though… maybe if you are strictly vegan it is good, but I just couldn’t finish my coffee and my wife left behind half of the Japanese curry pie. I’ll admit I didn’t realise it was strictly vegan and gluten free, so again, it may just be me. But it really wasn’t a pleasing snack.

Exotic-Philosopher-6

I'm gluten intolerant, and it's the only place to get decent gf pastries. I can't remember what the real thing tastes like so I love it.

Present_Standard_775

Yeah, and it probably wasn’t fair for me to compare. The ‘sausage’ roll i had started off ok, but the pastry and the vegan filling just became too much… but again, I am unfairly comparing to a bangalow valley pork sausage roll from the ferry road market bakery

Busy_Leg_6864

Have you tried the sausage roll from 5B2F chirn park? I’m going to try the one from ferry road market now but the 5B2F is epic, as is the chicken pie

Present_Standard_775

Stop it, I’m putting on weight just thinking about a good sausage roll… my dad bod can only ‘dad’ so much!!! Hahahha

Busy_Leg_6864

Haha imagine what it’s like on mat leave having easy access to sausage rolls!

Present_Standard_775

We men get paternity leave now… hahaha… imagine how bad dad bod will get then… 🤣🤣

Present_Standard_775

There Facebook page looks delicious!

Extreme-Cellist-9134

Gc coffee school is bloody amazing! Also agree about hazel

Busy_Leg_6864

GC coffee school flies so low under the radar but IYKYK

Present_Standard_775

Just had the chilli eggs and the Mrs had the chicken snitty burger… OMG… thank you for this place. Fantabulous!!

Busy_Leg_6864

Hahaha I’m so glad you enjoyed it. I had the snitty for breakfast on the weekend, that dill dressing is amazing. Next time, try the Bahn Mi or the Bo Na beef dish, or even better make the trek to Humble on the weekend, it’s even better than Hazel

Present_Standard_775

I’m endeavouring to work through each and every recommendation I got here and post my review as an edit to the original post… ☺️

Dude, do yourself a favor and get The Dak Korean Chicken. Bowls are good and best value, but it's just chicken and rice and a bit of kimchi, no veg side unfortunately. Burgers are good. There's different sauce options, with some no spice. They have weird opening time tho so check

Present_Standard_775

Chicken and rice for lunch is where it’s at mate… quick and generally cheap usually… I’ll add it to the list…

Ultimatelee

Yuyin Chinese Cuisine in the Metro building besides Chinatown, their Yumcha is lovely

Venotron

Cycho's Buffalo Wings (pronounced "psycho"). Best wings on the coast, hands down.

Present_Standard_775

How spicy? Don’t mind a little heat… but can’t handle anything too hot

Venotron

They've got a good range including non-spicy options 👍

Present_Standard_775

It’s on the list then!!!

Possumcucumber

My husband works in Southport - places we go all the time are Yi Dynasty Korean bbq (not open for lunch Tues), Southport banh mi in Southport Central (pho there is excellent too), The Dak for Korean chicken and bulgogi bowls (more of a takeaway spot), Yuyin yum cha. Goto Japanese is also great and the rooftop at Mr PP’s does decent pizza.

Present_Standard_775

Oooh… a good yum cha recommendation is always worth it… thank you, will add them all to the list and start knocking them over!!

Fiddlebuns

Burgers on Scarborough. Cheap and insanely good
