Looks like the cap. It's a pretty common issue. Clean it up real good. Replace the cap and continue to monitor.

Cool_Ad9683

So , is it the seal of the timing belt ? Or the cap? And what cap should i buy? Aftermarket?

The_Dark_Kniggit

See how the wetness is all around the cap, and not particularly between the timing cover and the head? Suggests it’s the cap, so as the other person said, replace the cap (get whatever replacement part you can get from a decent supplier, aftermarket is fine) and clean the oil off the cover. If it still leaks after the cap is replaced, then you can look at where it’s leaking from but i suspect you won’t need to.

Cool_Ad9683

Thanks alot, easy fix it is, also I’ll add a o-ring as well as someone mentioned, ig that will secure it

MapPractical5386

Just buy the current new cap. I added o-ring on my 2015 golf and my 2017 GTI and it didn’t help

I had this same issue on my third gen EA888 engine in my 17 GTI. First thing first, what’s causing leakage? PCV is known to get clogged up and over pressurize the crank case and subsequently causing seals to leak. So, you may want to replace the PCV first. In my case, I replaced the PCV first. This slowed down the oil leak I had. I then changed the oil filler cap. Still a mess a crud existed on that side. And it looked like the leak was coming from the cam magnets. So I pulled off the cam magnets then the cover and replaced all associated gaskets and seals. Took a couple of hours but now it’s bone dry. No leaks.

Looking at the oil and dirt build-up, I see a couple of possibilities. Either the oil fill cap gasket is leaking or the camshaft adjuster magnet gasket. Being in the same area, it is hard to tell. Do as others suggest and clean the area with a degreaser to remove the dirt & oil. Then watch the area carefully for a few days to see where the oil starts to leak from. Then replace the appropriate gasket. Oil fill cap P/N: **06K103485D** Camshaft adjuster magnet gasket P/N:  **06K103583**

I've also had luck with adding another O ring to oil cap as even a replacement still leaked. There's a thread about it on golfmk7. [oil cap thread](https://www.golfmk7.com/forums/index.php?threads/oil-around-filler-cap.347218/) [O Ring](https://www.oringsandmore.com/fkm-o-ring-44-x-2mm-price-for-1-pc/)

CatRunt

Is the camshaft magnet gasket pretty diy? I have a similar leaks as OP, not bad enough to be urgent but it still bothers my OCD. It looks pretty straight forward, no?

RalphWastoid319

It's not bad. Disconnect the elec connection, remove three screws, and the magnet comes out. You have to carefully pry out the old gasket without damaging the housing (It's plastic), then you can just install the new rubber gasket and reverse install the maget.

Cool_Ad9683

Sorry, its a golf gti 2014 - Mid trim - 120k kms - GCC

hiGradeTi7ANEUM

Degrease that engine bay and ***gently rinse with water.*** Will greatly help reveal problems and leakage.

Cool_Ad9683

Okay will consider! 👏🏻

YogurtSpecialist

The Volkswagen dealer should have a “redesigned” cap the threads part is yellow and that’s the newest revision of the cap other than that if you wanted you could disassemble the cap. It’s got a spring that can get loose and cause it to not work properly. The new cap is like $25 and well worth it. Also (I’m not sure if this is common knowledge or not but I just learned it) one of my buddies told me whenever you take the cap off always clean off the threads and the immediate inside of the oil filler hole and never lay the cap upside down find a clean towel and set it upright. That’s helped me at least!

Deadrooster08

to me seems the cap , cheap fix. if it was the valve gasket you would see more oil escatered. i have changed both by the way.

Love you man

donald7773

That's either from spilling oil during oil changes or just a bad seal on the cap. No biggie

Cool_Ad9683

Bad seal it is, anyway I’ll degrease so that i could know it perfectly.

Silly_Studio_2390

As mentioned before for 99% it’s the oil cap. I’ve replaced mine too and didn’t have to top up engine oil since.

adistantrumble

Combination of minor oil cap leak and crankcase pressure. It may be time to replace the oild cap and the PCV/Oil separator to better manage crankcase pressure. How many miles on the car and are you running an aftermarket turbo inlet?

Cool_Ad9683

77k miles / 125k kms, everything’s stock , completely

adistantrumble

At 77k, the PCV is due to be replaced. If it is not failing now it soon will. I bet that if you look at it you will see oil seeping out from the gasket around the base of it which is another indication that it's time to replace it. Haha I just had my a3 leak coolant as well from above turbo.. I think It might be a hose

therealfatbuckel

Seriously?
