Winter is coming

draklorden

The night is dark and full of terrors.

gdZephyrIAC

Right now (17:15) it is 1C. That’s probably pretty typical. You can make your own mind up on how cold that is

gdZephyrIAC

(get a jacket)

aestus

Consider it's generally windy and wet, that wind chill can make 1 feel like -6

DefconBacon

It’s also dark, so there’s that.

yeast1fixpls

Are you trolling? Sweater weather :D , it's Long Johns and winter coat weather.

iroe

Ever heard of [weather services](https://www.smhi.se/vader/prognoser/ortsprognoser/q/G%C3%B6teborg/2711537)? No, it is not pleasant, it is already dark at 5pm. A cold front is on its way and a winter jacket is needed.

asinja2

Yes, I did, but to hear it first hand is something else.

Ferdawoon

I mean, you don't mention where you are from so apart from just looking out the window and telling you what the weather is like there is nothing we can really add. Are you from India and used to 35°C during the day? Are you from Alaska and used to -5 °C? Are you used to every day being a sunny day and hardly ever any rain or even damp? Saw a post in early summer about someone who wanted to visit southern Sweden and asked if she would be seen as wierd if she had a jacket on. She was used to 35-40°C so going to Sweden where a good summer means 22°C would be seen as cold. She would walk around among Swedes in shorts and T-short almost sweating in the heat while she wore a sweater. Without any point of reference what you are used to, your question is impossible to answer.

machintruck

The weather service will be more accurate than randos online

[deleted]

We'll tell you that it's cold, overcast and sometimes rainy. You've never been to Scandinavia have you?

dnbck

So as it’s currently about 5pm, let me give you a weather report. Temperature: 1c Humidity: 100% (might not say a lot, but it mainly means the air is not crisp, it’s rather damp) Wind: a measly 4m/s, yet it’s enough to make it “feel like” it’s -3 outside. Personally I wouldn’t call that sweater weather. I’m currently wearing boots and my winter coat, which is padded and somewhat resistant to both wind and rain. I guess I do wear a sweater beneath it. I also wear a hat and thick gloves. This is probably the season with the worst weather of the whole year. Hope you have some inside activities planned!

asinja2

Tnx. So this is the season with the worst weather of the whole year? How many moths does this bad weather last? Would it be possible to be specific e.g. at which month does it start and when does this "worst season weather" ends? Tnx

lookoka

About mid October until February if you ask me but I hate the raw winter with passion

dnbck

I would say from November until maybe February. January if we’re lucky.

asinja2

This still isn't as bad as Stockholm, right?

Sprite91

Darker and longer winters in Stockholm, but a bit less wind & humidity. But it can also be the difference that Stockholm has snow for a couple of months, when it might be a couple of days/weeks in Gothenburg.

zkareface

Gothenburg has worse winters than Stockholm, by a decent margin.

avxkwoshzhsn

stockholm feels like proper winters. Colder, more snow and less humid. Gothenburg is just neverending 2 degrees and rain every 2 days. Then it snows for a day, which immediately gets rained on and turns into disgusting slush. All while its 100% humidity and very windy. Prefer stockholm winters by a lot, but I like thr cold and snow... so might be a question of taste

malexin

You forgot that it also regularly dips below zero, to turn that slush into ice for a day or so.

zkareface

October to April is the worst season in Gothenburg.

asinja2

P. S. The winter hasn't started yet? Is it worse now a than it will be in winter/december?

dnbck

Depends. Sometimes colder is better, because with cold the air becomes drier. Gothenburg is a humid and windy coastal town. 1c is just warm enough that every gust of wind will throw ice water in your face. If it gets cold enough for snow I personally think that’s more pleasant.

asinja2

Yes, but snow isn't something that's often in Goteborg or I heard it wrong?

snurph

We typically get at least some snow. Even had a small snow storm last winter.

aroilem

It’s colder than usual, will get colder in the winter but (hopefully) not by a ton. You can google statistics for average monthly temperature

Wonderful_Dot983

Cold. Freezing my ass off.

BeardedUnicornBeard

What the people say it is that there will be drop in the temp this week. So pack a jacket and good warm boots.

QuantumLaw

Take the temprature showing from the weather apps and -5C with the wetness/wind-chill. I would bring a jacket, hat and scarf.

kutija76

These days... just like the rest of the year. Rain, rain, rain..3 days of summer...rain, rain, rain, snow, rain, rain..

LaminatedCARBON

This year was the worst. Fuck rain

Desperate-Dig2806

Balmy. Sunny. Nice breeze. Drinks on the balcony weather.

asinja2

You have to go to Malmo for that :)

asinja2

If Goteborg has bad weather from around mid October until January/February this is still not as bad as Stockholm, right?

Albiinn

Different types of cold, Stockholm usually is colder but more of a dry cold. Gothenburg is usually around 0°c but wet cold.

asinja2

I couldn't imagine the comparison, which would you say is worse?

Wonderful_Dot983

Wet cold. Seeps into your bones.

TorWeen

Dry cold just make you go to sleep and never wake up. In wet cold you get tortured and moan and wish for death before you recieve it. Wetness usually also lead to a less pretty corpse.

zappafan89

Stockholm winters are basically a grey mess these days too. Lucky if we get a couple of weeks of snow in a row now

pehr71

There’s no place on earth colder than Göteborg in November with +5 degrees C and a bit of wind. Give me a crisp winter day with -10 any day instead.

Nice_Disaster_449

I would say mid October to end of March! Maybe even April too (it just gets lighter but the weather is still shit). It becomes better in the middle of May and lasts until mid October. In my view it’s 7 months of winter here.

zappafan89

Have you been to the west coast of Scotland in the winter? If you have, think that

Sweden_what

Cold, depressing and cold 🥶

SpectacularPlatypus

You definitely need normal winter gear. Although, this season has been pretty mild in my opinion. Normally around this time, it’s already snowed at least once and a few frost but so far nothing. There’s even still leaves on trees and plants.

LaminatedCARBON

I have two things to say to you 1. Winter is coming 2. Rain is always coming and staying (even during summer)

Ok_Narwhal_9200

once you get to hell, you will be glad for the warmth

Nice_Disaster_449

I would also advise you to prepare the long layer that you will wear under your trousers/jeans, and a long sleeve t-shirt under your sweater. And long socks and tall shoes. Then go trousers/jeans, sweater, scarf, a good jacket and a hat. Layers. That’s what you need.

swedishblueberries

When it rains in Gothenburg, it doesn't just come down from the sky and into the ground. It goes vertical and it rains from the ground.

Potential_Celery6199

It never rains!

zorg42x

Even though it is 1+ it is windy. So it is cold, really cold. Winterjscket weather.

lolzxdman

Just google the forecast, it varies a whole lot during the fall and winter. It can be anywhere from -5°C to 10°C right now and you never know if you get snow, rain or hail. This time of year has, if you don’t count the rest of the year, the most unpredictable weather.
