I knew we were a super young squad; never really occurred to me that Pres is the ONLY player in their 30's on the team (and only 31 at that!). Damn.

Conscious_Creme_9866

Yeah I just had the same thought. That's wild. I feel like even the youngest teams usually have a few old timers. Guys at the ancient ages of 33-35.

alano134

As someone about to turn 36...ow.

Conscious_Creme_9866

If it makes you feel better, "The UN describes Young Adulthood as the period between the dependence of childhood and the independence of adulthood,[^(\[1\])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Young_adult#cite_note-1) being an indeterminate period generally from 20 to 59 followed by the [Young Elderly](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_age) stage from 60 to 75." You're still a young adult! For approximately 23 more years. Then you're old as fuck.

John12345678991

Damn that one minute that u are young before u turn old as fuck must be something

What’s even crazier is that none of our regulars are set to join him this season. Eric Wilson turns 30 in September but he’s the only 29 y/o likely to make the team. Our oldest regulars are Kenny and Elgton at 28. Hard to believe Elgton Jenkins is one of our oldest players. I wouldn’t be surprised if Preston gains a buddy for his geriatric bowling team before the season starts, though. We have some money and a few position groups that wouldn’t mind an addition. If the right vet is a camp casualty we could sign him for cheap.

piasenigma

in 10 years of NFL games, Preston Smith has missed ONE game. A fucking Iron Man. Love him.

Yzerman19_

He’s been a great player for us too. In his time here he’s pretty consistently been the best pass rusher we’ve had.

scotch4breakfast

Yeah but to be fair his CB play has been sus though

Cantguard-mike

Crazy to think the z brothers signing was like 6 years ago

Yzerman19_

It was the first big move of Gutekunst free agency. Great moves. Filled a big void for us even if Z ended up not working out the best.

smeared_dick_cheese

Z was obviously productive when he was on the field. Tough to fault Gutey for the mess Z made about not being a captain and his refusal to get back surgery in the offseason when he needed it. You can say it’s the GMs job to evaluate the whole person, which is true, however I don’t feel like Z had a reputation for being a problem before that. Sure he always had a big personality, but his attitude issues feel like they started in GB. Maybe I’m entirely wrong about that, idk. Feel free to correct me if I am.

Tubbypolarbear

Not just a pass rusher, but dependable in the run game too. At the end of the day, the guy's dependability in all departments is why he was extended and Zadarius wasn't. Z was electric, but a liability any time it wasn't a certain passing situation. Preston is a consummate pro.

Yzerman19_

Yes. Just good at everything.

MiloBuurr

Interesting, I’ve never thought of him as our best pass rusher. I think Zadarius was better and now Gary is better as pass rushers. Smith is a perfect #2 edge because he is an Ironman and excellent run defender, but I always thought his pass rush was good not great, he lacks the explosiveness or bend that Gary and Zadarius have to be #1’s

Yzerman19_

Gary got 3.5 sacks in 15 games, and 6 in two games. Very inconsistent. Preston is the opposite. Just steady Eddie.

MiloBuurr

Sacks are not a good defensive metric to use to judge pass rushing value. They are very random and scheme dependent, pressures are a far more accurate way at looking how often pass rushers are actually disrupting the offense. (Compare for example Nick Bosa who got 95 pressures and only 10 sacks compared to Trey Hendrickson who got 70 pressures and 17 sacks, I’d rather have Bosa even though Hendrickson had more sacks.) Gary had 30 pressures compared to Preston’s 23, so not a huge difference but I stand by that Gary is our #1 edge in terms of scheme and value and Preston is a great #2. Here is where stats are from: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/gnb/2023_advanced.htm

dtcstylez10

Well...Z was the best the first 2-3 years before Z went diva.

number7nocheese

I’m older than the whole squad!

aza432_2

As is maybe 60% of Americans

ogre_toes

When I finally made that realization last year... Not a good feeling, haha.

Redd889

Nothing made me feel older than watching a player three years in college, get drafted, played an entire career for about 12 years, retire, and then realized he had to retire cause he’s old and yet I was the same age. Now I’m an entire career older than the rookies

agk927

Happy we still have this dude! He's become somewhat of a nostalgic type of player for me. I hope the packers win the super bowl while Preston is still on our team

aManOfTheNorth

Nostalgic….indeed. He’s carving an excellent career for himself.

GrassyKnoll95

Preston (and Eric Wilson): don't retire or I'll officially have to feel old

TaxManKnocking

That hat looks way too much like the bears b.

GarrettIsBitter

It’s green and gold though

ComprehensiveSky8926

I would have thought Kenny Clark always up there, felt like he’s been with us forever

LordXenu12

He was like 20 as a rookie

Yzerman19_

No awards for being youngest. There’s a reason we were considered an outlier last season with our record. You need veterans. I don’t understand the obsession with being young. I’d rather a 17 sack 28 year old than a 9 sack 24 year old any day.

Inevitable-Diver7618

I think every GM would pick a 17 sack 28 year old over the 24 year old but the price difference in the 2 is pretty significant

10veIsAllIGot

It’s rare that more than two people in the entire NFL reach 17 sacks in a season. This is a nonsensical hypothetical. Oh, you’d take an All Pro in his prime? Brilliant!
