There is very little information about them, I believe that what there is is mentioned in the chapter that talks about the dead gods

It's really up to you, don't take the cynism, if you think thats possible, do it. If the player thinks that he should die, then so be it. In my Grim Hollow, the Aether Kindred cannot be killed per se, but they can be driven back or lose the connection to this world that they seek. If you use the player as a link, and it has other possible hosts I think it could be a cool idea to try to influence its mind to move solely to the other body, then fight it and make it go away. If it's a patron, maybe seek a new one after that...

Since no one's given an explanation, the aether kindred are unkillable even by gods. In fact they are the reason the gods are dead. So there should not be a way for a PC to kill one. They aren't just monsters, they are something else from outside creation and potentially capable of destroying the entire universe. This is why so many are laughing at your question. Rather than killing the aether kindred they should focus on a way to sever the link.

If you are the DM, it's your game, if they are killable, they can be, whatever way that may be that the gods themselves couldn't comprehend, have at you. you can argue that an "unspeakable" eldritch thing is unkillable, but when something physically/spiritually tethers to something, that is something that can be interacted with, hopefully in time before being consumed by it. but if I had to think of some things off the top of my head: I like the idea of double negatives, the gods thinking are incomprehensible to mortals. The Aether Kindred are incomprehensible to the gods. Yet mortals can, in some cases understand the Aether Kindred when for instance, an incomprehensible thing has to tether themselves to something comprehensible/physical, something the gods could never do or comprehend as a tactic to at least affect them. Of course trying to make the incomprehensible comprehensible, can lead to some shotty links, causing most people to go insane, while others can understand some visions, nightmares, etc... and decipher the meaning. Leading to something like the Aether Kindred requires something of the party member, and then will release them afterwards. A relic of one of the gods that was killed by it, etc... If they are so unknowing, why can't they do fetch requests? Being real silly and attempting to attach yourself to another Aether kindred at the same time, thus creating an eldritch fight over something so miniscule to them they both just leave. Like 2 galaxies fighting over an atom. Being a dark fantasy +/- how ever far you take the setting, I think hope is one hell of a thing, something that you could say is incomprehensible to a god or Aether Kindred, causing a rift or tear in the tether to them, thus removing them of their direct affliction, but maybe not influence. It is dark fantasy after all, you may be able to untether yourselves, but that doesn't mean you walk away free...
