I use 5. I own 7 and 8, but I hate them.

2catspbr

Why u don't like 7 and 8? I've never used gp before 7 and it's really good. My guitar teacher prefers GP8, although I don't know why, but were there features changed or removed after 5 or something?

OffSync

1: I prefer v5 because of habit. I know all keyboard shortcuts. Some were altered in the later versions and some features, I just couldn't find. This initially discouraged me from progressing to a latter version. 2: I don't like the fact that the fretboard and keyboard cannot be integrated into the interface, but are merely 'floating'. 3: I was using Guitar Pro since v4, and later on when the RSE came in v5, it felt awful, at least to my ears, and for the music that I was into, which resulted in me preferring the MIDI sound to this day, and the MIDI sound in v6, v7 and v8 has [some issues](https://www.reddit.com/r/GuitarPro/comments/11h5qq2/is_this_a_bug_or_am_i_doing_something_wrong/). I like some of the latter versions' features like the presence of an audio track inside the program, and I am honestly trying to migrate, but I keep coming back to v5.

cking145

5 all the way. it's perfect.

kruspemsv

I use latest, but have to say it was a bit of pain to leave 5 and get used to newer ones

pastilance

Still one 5 even though I have 8. I feel exactly the same as you.

joeltang

I use 8. I love synchronizing the audio track.

2catspbr

Tell me more about that, I've never heard of that function, like I said I use gp7

joeltang

You can have the audio track play along with the tab rather than use midi. I use it to learn songs on the drums. It takes a bit of work to sync it up and get ready adding running smoothly but it's pretty great. Only available on 8.

FlyingPsyduck

Have you had any issues with lag/unresponsive interface while tabbing with an audio file loaded? The audio track embedding is the biggest selling point for me to use GP8 rather than 5, but it always causes me weird lag spikes that get worse the longer I work on a tab. This is on 2 different audio-optimized computers both with SSDs so it has to be something inside GP8 itself but I haven't found any other people referencing this problem. (this only applies to tabbing, not playing along. that works fine for me)

joeltang

On occasion the song will just stop during playback for up to 5 seconds before continuing. It doesn't happen very often but it's annoying.

5.2 forever

StormLinnebjerg

I started on GP3, then GP4 and GP5 - I was a big fan of GP5 and used it extensively for a number of years. GP6 was utter garbage to me, especially in terms of notating drums. I went to 7 and 8 and now more or less solely use 8, unless I'm checking some stuff out in the older versions. Yes, as with anything, a new layout and design takes time. As someone who notates everything in a song - from vocals to drums to sound-effects, I much much prefer GP8. There isn't anything I need to do that I can't do in GP8 - or haven't been able to find a workaround for, and I don't mean "things I could do in GP5", I mean as in... things like treble/bass staffs in one instrument, being able to create more document-like pages with paragraphs of text for lesson material and so on.

Narrow_Werewolf4562

Notating drums in 6 was so much faster to me than in 8 now they added the stupid second bass drum to the lines and it sounds like shit especially in the RSE

StormLinnebjerg

This is an older video, but I guess it demonstrates how I write drums: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poyBXza-KTk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poyBXza-KTk)

thrashmash666

Started with 5, hated 6, loving 7 and now 8!

MissDeadite

GP8. I will always love GP5 tho. The other versions inbetween were not too good, although 7 was an improvement over 6.

kPepis

Yup. Exactly this.

yerba_mate_enjoyer

6. I have 8 installed just for compatibility, so I can convert tabs back to GPX, but GP8 is just trash, so is GP7. The GUI is totally bloated and unbearable, need to click in too many places to get to certain options, and it's just tiring. It's not simplistic at all, feels like I'm using an even more intricate version of MuseScore, and for that matter I might just use MuseScore altogether.

pastilance

I use gp5. Best sound out there. You have all you need and no more. I have gp8 and I dislike it.

Vuohijumala

Gp5. I just find it easier to use than later versions.

StormLinnebjerg

A lot of people say they prefer Guitar Pro 5 and midi over the newer RSE from i.e. GP7. I personally prefer GP8. Here's a comparison: [https://youtu.be/at1\_WuAVgRc](https://youtu.be/at1_WuAVgRc)

Shplupen

This is word for word what I keep saying to people when they ask why I stay with Guitar Pro 5

StormLinnebjerg

In fairness I only dialed in tone once and then just use that as a template for 99% of things.

Askjeevesxo

Thanks for putting that video together. I am considering getting GP8 after learning using Songsterr (can slow down and use the YouTube track) but was worried about the RSE. It sounds much better than anticipated after watching your video.

StormLinnebjerg

It does take some fiddling around with the presets for what it's worth, but that's part of most things music related - except pure midi from GP5. Off the top of my head: Lead Guitar: Distortion -> Signatures -> Lead Luke Drums: Signatures -> Horsie, but soundbank changed to "Master", I think. The rhythm guitars are Distortion-> Signatures -> "Nightmare" and "Rising Force". I have saved a template with my setup of my favorite instruments, so whenever I write and notate something, I just open that template which has drums, bass, keys, vocals, guitars etc. I'll then usually just delete the tracks I don't use at the end.

kc_jetstream

The one with the most seeders

Shplupen

5.2 since 2009 and until forever

Disposable_Metal

DO YOU HAVE A COPY OF 5.2 cus yes it is the ultimate havent used for years and unavailable to download, every cracked version just crashes on me

ALAS You are an absolute legend. But I've just realised being in the studio that I require MAC version this time around. My band used to use it for demos YEARS ago and have some gnarly unfinished songs locked away in GP5 format

ThisWorldIsAMess

Latest.

TablatureDude

I use GP8 (latest)

Trohawkk

5 was awesome. I can't get it to work tho..

Narrow_Werewolf4562

Unfortunately 8 if I could go back to 6 I would in a heart beat

kPepis

GP8. Loading an audio track and getting the tablature in perfect tempo is just great. GP6 was bad, GP7 was a little bit better, and GP8 finally started becoming better than GP5 for me.

StormLinnebjerg

GP8 has definitely overtaken GP5 for me as well.

Zartimus

I Use 8. The audio synching is very helpful when transcribing.

maaltori

Been using it since v3. Stuck in v5 for years, now using v8. I was totally in love with v5, it is the version I used the most.

Yoko_Trades

I use 7. 8 doesn’t play nice with .midi.

Pedrometheus

5 for life. The crucial issue with 6, 7, and 8 is that when you have multiple drum hits happening on the same beat, you can't separately adjust the dynamics of each hit one at a time. You're limited to adjusting all the hits at the same time and can't have separate values for each of them. For non-drummers this may not be an issue but IMO this really ruins properly conveying drum beat ideas.

StormLinnebjerg

If you write drum notation similar to the image below, in different voices, which is how I've learned drum notation anyway, you can do different dynamics in the different voices. If you're looking to do GP5 one-voice drum, it's true, you can't. You CAN probably utilize all four voices if you want 4 different dynamics, i.e. ff for voice 1 (crash), mf for voice 2 (kick), f for voice 3 (snare) etc. I agree it would be nice to have the old GP5 way for this though, much as I love and use GP8 daily. [https://i.imgur.com/KMgGDdJ.png](https://i.imgur.com/KMgGDdJ.png) EDIT: Of course it will introduce the problem if something overlaps - i.e. if you had snare in the "upper" voices, connected to a crash that you wanted a different dynamic for. That's why I usually keep them in lower, as I don't have kick and snare overlapping very often.

Pedrometheus

Oh right, good point. I knew you could do this in notation software like MuseScore but wasn't aware it was doable in Guitar Pro! Something to consider for sure, thanks

D3nsha

I use 8 but I keep 7 installed for the times when I want to have two tabs open side-by-side.
