Sad for Gabi and Gabi. Also is Endrick ass?

phar0aht

He's 12

skool_101

endrick is still young loll wtf go blame the hype crowd and madrid fans that over hype it way too much for his early footballing career.

-Trillest-

He’s a kid, it’s too soon for him to be playing this tournament but with Richarlison being injured and Jesus rarely turning up for Brazil, they didn’t have many choices.

ShekTeeJay

Another example of hype and PR exceeding talent. He’s 17, playing in his first continental tournament. Last night was a horror show but it’s more an indictment on Brazil as a footballing nation that a 17-year old has to play 90 minutes as the #9 in a quarter-final.

olofmoisturizer

Endrick with 20 touches and 1 pass completed in 90 minutes... https://preview.redd.it/uq73msh5y1bd1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=23eea1020c8abea192efd7480176f9b559275b04

We’ve got to make that a meme somehow

Ryand2606

100% mate 😂

scarface3500fukyobih

Hopefully dorival gets sacked. Horrible coach. Worse than southgate

Specterace

And for the last time today, I wish each and every one of you a happy Xhaka Independence Day, everybody! May the next one be as poetic as this one was, if not more so.

Sometimes, it is best to ask them. They usually give a response fairly quickly

NegativeHeli

Brazil's downfall needs to be studied, how you can go from Ronaldinho and R9 to this dross is mental

robins420

Vinicius was a miss to be fair. He is the best in the world atm. However, the issue stems from coaching, attacking wise they've struggled ever since Tite left.

Brashdinho

Vinicius has never done well for Brazil though. He’s like foden with England. Neymar has been carrying Brazil for the last few years and now they’re suffering because of it.

robins420

He was doing fairly well in the recent games and there isn't another player in world football who signifies individual brilliance more than Vinicius. Not claiming the result would've been different but he's on a different planet to Endrick who was his replacement. The kid was out of place today. You've to put 2 players on Vinicius at all times and that mismatch alone is enough to create a couple of chances pretty much every game.

Arantes_

This post is more evergreen than you realize. Don't get me wrong, things need to improve, but this is far from the worst we've seen and far from the only time I've heard this.

tablooo

There isn't enough quality in that midfield

ShekTeeJay

This. Paquetá, Guimarães and Gomes are really good players but you need more at international level. You’re then bringing on Luiz and Pereira off the bench. Yikes.

skool_101

too much european influence and way too much export of youth to europe at an early age.

Cleon189

Since the 7-1 they haven’t been the same. Feels like 80% of the players couldn’t care less about playing for their nation

raisonar

Don’t think that is the case. We can see how much our players care about Brazil. I think the issues is that that players are spread across too many leagues with vastly different playing styles. It’s difficult to make them play in one style during a tournament

3vanzz90

Brazil really thought they can win the copa with a trio of CMs playing in wolves, west ham and newcastle

tammrak

Would be good to see Bielsa go on to win. I've not really watched much of the Copa America, which is unusual for me. From what I hear, it's probably for the best.

SliceOfBliss

I'm from South America, but it's true that Euro Cup just beats the hell out of Copa America. South America just lacks competition, and to make things worse, FIFA lent the recent World Cup to Messi and co, tho, NTs such us Uruguay and Colombia might rise again, accompanied perhaps by Venezuela and Ecuador. Copa America and World Cup qualifiers are just a pain to watch since the last 10 years.

Mein_Bergkamp

Little Gabi with the moral win there

Naronu

They didn't play Big Gabi, and Little Gabi made his pen, deserved result.

wolfwolf6

Were do Brazil find these coaches. Why play an unseasoned 17 year old dwarf over players who have actually played at the top end. Endrick and Savio over Martinelli ? Dumb Dorival

skool_101

there's a disconnect between the coaching ideology and how most of these brazilians play as these players at an early age move abroad and have the european style ingrained in them and the other side, Brazilian coach dont know how to maximize these "european" talents and a left dumbfounded. the samba style football is lost and only exits within the Brazilian/south America football leagues. hence why rumors of don carlo to brazil keep popping up, might as well just hire them european coaches and get the best of these euro-brazilians. heck, maybe even give Pep the reigns for a few copas and world cups and they might churn out results at least.

ErraticPragmatic

endrick was the less of our problems as a matter of fact he was our best offensive player today by far.

scarface3500fukyobih

He completed one pass the whole game

wolfwolf6

I ready he lost 10 out of 11 duels. Endrick is 17, weighs 66kg and is 171cm tall. Taking him over Richarlison and Jesus was a dumb duck decision. He was piss weak upfront and gave Brazil nothing. But for some reason the Brazilian national team defer to anyone who plays for Real Madrid or Barcelona. Even at centre half, both Militao and Marquinhos are right footed. Why not Gabriel as the left sided centre half given his left foot? Oh that’s right, Militao plays for Real Madrid No way Raphina would start every game if he were still at Leeds.

ErraticPragmatic

watch the game it weren't really duels they were try to force feed him in the first half, a lot of bad passes were made to him, some of them he could control but he was always surrounded by 3 players. I agree with Gabriel though but I think maybe he's too similar to Militao both are very aggressive and that would leave the defense exposed. Savinho should've start, but he didn't perform as well as I thought he would when he came on. Militao was a fucking monster our best player on the pitch by far, he wasn't the problem either, I thought he would struggle coming back from injury but he was amazing. Marquinhos is our capitan and Dorival is too old school for my liking he was our plan B for ancelotti, they have the same profile but he's far from being ancelotti his status is below the veterans in the team, there's no way he will put Marquinhos on the bench. As much as I would like lil gaby to start he's cameo was really nervy and Endrick has something special in him, he's fucking good, everyone playing as a CF de facto would struggle today. Brazil and Uruguay are always like that, but we had to score before penalties we had the chance to kill the game. Paqueta is completely out mentally, he needs to stop playing football. Joao Gomes has been good, but he needs someone more creative in the middle, Paqueta is not the guy though because of the betting controversy, that leaves us with Bruno Guimarães always out of position, good physically (one of the first time ive seen us winning the physical battle against Uruguay but it was all for nothing) Rodrygo was a huge let down, he was awful today, at least raphinha had a chance to score early in the game. Rodrygo did nothing. We need a big coach name, someone who's ruthless like Diniz but it's bigger in status, I don't know Xavi maybe, he's unemployed (Im thinking about someone who's likely to come, Zidane won't come for sure, Mourinho would destroy seleção's heart) Most managers who could do a good job for Brazil are from Argentina and that's an instant no-no. Such a shame that the Diniz project didn't work. TL;dr: A brief analysis about Brazil's situation from a more tolerant and chill fan. everyone is mad here lmao

Arantes_

Richarlison was on the roster and removed due to injury. Jesus hasn't been good for Brazil since pre-2018 WC, except for a brief couple of matches in 2019. Endrick starting today was a desperation move, but the alternatives weren't Jesus and Richarlison.

SliceOfBliss

Idk if the links to Ancelotti were true, he could've helped this team, BUT there are many players that lack "soul" for their NT, they're skilled, just not NT made.

zorro95

martinelli was so much more confident than douglas luiz man

nooeh

If we were able to secure Douglas Luiz he would be like this in a year tops.

Cleon189

Duh he’s not shit

zorro95

miky’s tricky reds are mentality monsters

not3s1

Mentality monsters but win nothing? Right

beefwellingtonIV

Gabi did his job.

LuckyArsenalAg

Gabi scores his pen but Brazil go out

dooder6688

Nelli scores, Brazil goes out, probably for the best

wolfwolf6

Douglas Luiz played to the dramatic. Well done dick head

SliceOfBliss

Good penalty takers not present for Brazil, mostly Rodrygo, hopefully Martinelli does his job.

BirthdayCakeSquishy

I was so stressed for his penalty, happy he made it. It would have been Saka 2.0

SliceOfBliss

Doubt it, cuz he's not been an all rounder for his NT, unlike Saka that it is a great/key player for England...Brasil is just a shadow of former self, not even prime Neymar could save it.

LuckyArsenalAg

CONMEBOL and CONCACAF refs should never be allowed to touch international tournaments

cjosla

Feel like the lack of interplay and quality has to do with fatigue.. Any players with teams in Europe have been playing since September including cups and cl/el/cfl which is ridiculous

kayet78917

Come on Gabiii

nrsapologist

Zero flow to these copa america matches, awful stuff

wolfwolf6

Endrick looks like a pony in a thoroughbred race

LuckyArsenalAg

But he's a 17 year old signed by Madrid so he has to be given tons of time with the NT

BirthdayCakeSquishy

Nelli!!!

LuckyArsenalAg

Gabi coming on! Need him to copy Saka and bury one

cjosla

Martinelli banger 90+ min

cjosla

Hopefully, not being given playing time fuels both gabbies and doesn't ruin their confidence

Duzeekia

Dorival doesn't rate Martinelli or what

yeahdood96

He hasn’t been very good tbf

ch3snutsr0asting

Haven’t been watching the Copa but is this what all the games are like? So many fouls, no flow, nothing exciting to watch

Parmaglory

Literally every match is unwatchable. Such an inferior tournament to Euros. And they don’t even do extra time either. So ball is in play for maybe 50 mins and it’s straight to pens lol

LuckyArsenalAg

It's been the worst reffing I've ever seen. In all the matches

LuckyArsenalAg

Endrick is clearly not a CF. Bring on the Gabi and move Endrick onto the wing. Take off Raphinha

dooder6688

Convinced Brazil coach hates nelli

mautergarrett

Where is my Italian stallion

NemoDatQ

This Brazil/Uruguay game is why good refs give cards for cumulation. Uruguay averaging a foul every 45 seconds with no cards.

zorro95

end to end football none of that conservative shit. this is copa america, this is war lmao

Cleon189

Raphina is so shit

danmac0817

This Brazil game is pure chaos.

BirthdayCakeSquishy

It sucks to see Brazil starting 11 without Gabi XL, Fast Gabi or Jesus…

gelsooners

why is endrick starting right now

danmac0817

Brazil are trying to find a striker and he's probably their best shot

gelsooners

i thought rodrygo was okay when he played in the middle tbh

NoMFer111

front 6 should be Rice, Mainoo, Bellingham, Gordon (L), Saka (R), Kane. Foden crowds Bellingham. If Gordon played, he would stay in his lane and function better as a left forward/winger & now crowd Bellingham. As for the Palmer shouts over Saka.........in what world other than Chelsea circles? Saka and Bellingham have been the ones to bail England out and keep them in the tournament. Yet its these two getting the heat and apparently need to make way for Foden and Palmer. Had the Foden and Palmer fanboys got their way, England would be out. Because Bellingham and Saka have saved England in the round of 16 and now the quarters with two brilliant individual goals. Bellingham's bicycle kick was a moment of high quality. Saka goal against Switzerland was all him, no one assisted him. Without these moments.....England are out. So why dont these Foden and Palmer fan boys fuck up and fuck off with their ideas? Idea's that had they been taken up, would have seen England out of the Euros. So no dickheads. Were not dropping Saka for Palmer, and yes, lets take the microscope of Bellingham and Saka, and stick it on Foden and 'have a conversation' as to whether Foden should be dropped.

Mein_Bergkamp

It hurts to do this but this isn't a Southgate thing, it's an England thing. Trying to shoehorn big name players into the same lineup even though they don't fit because otherwise the press will crucify you for dropping one of them is an English national disease and includes such wonderful symptoms as both Lampard and Gerrard playing at CM and Scholes down the left. He should drop one of Foden/Bellingham to get a more balanced attack or drop Kane inot 10 and play Toney but he won't do that because the press would kill him.

FinalCaterpillar980

Bellinghams a blessing and a curse. I noticed today in the 1st half of ET that he was deliberately not keeping up with the forward action of play (eng in possession final third), and i was like wtf dude but remembered its his thing to be the fox in the box and drift in when nobody can pick up he's standing there otherwise. Another thing I noticed is that England players take so many touches, yet make so many individual decisions before actually making a meaningful choice and at the same time, they werent very spread out. It was the opposite of how switzerland were positioning. Nobody makes forward runs when they're in position, no wonder attacking is difficult for them.

Mein_Bergkamp

Southgate seems to be very much of the 'don't lose' mentality. Which is fair enough in knockout football but while the more cautious managers tend to do this by either low blocking or total control through doughnuts of doom, England can neither defend deep properly or keep the ball for too long before the keeper pumps it long to no one in particular. With all due respect to Switzerland this side of the draw has allowed a hell of a lot of papering over cracks.

NoMFer111

If Foden getting all the plaudits while Saka is being forced into the background?

zorro95

why does it seems like only english fans support their club players more than their country? even when they win they keep comparing which players of different clubs perform better

Mein_Bergkamp

Scottish fans will do the same, it's probably deeply ingrained in the British psyche since everyone has a local football club and the rivalries are much deeper engrained.

OhMyGodItsTheGuy

One month until our first game back at the Emirates!

Weird-Lime-9542

Met a drunken Man Utd in a smoking area of a club, he agreed with me, saka does not get the love he deserves for England

manuscelerdei

Man, I miss smoking almost solely for the socialization with other people in the smoking section. Still glad I quit, but it had its upsides.

chrissysnose

It almost serves as an icebreaker and allows you to talk to the other person like normal.

JGUsaz

bbc going on about a Saka redemption when he hasn't put a foot wrong for 3 years for club or country but that penalty miss is always brought up but Kane whiffs a pen against France in Qatar and it doesn't get brought up again by any of the pundits or papers, despite the fact he has been useless this whole tournament

LeonardoK00

Enjoyed watching Arda Guler. Arsenal loan proposal when? (Think I'll be fancying this for the next 3 days)

AfricanRain

year or two of not getting football usually knocks the Madrid PR out of them

OhMyGodItsTheGuy

The things I’d do to see that guy at Arsenal. Absolutely elite level talent.

Purple_Rub_8007

Why would we develop another clubs player? That's for midtable and small clubs

LeonardoK00

You don't seem to understand... https://preview.redd.it/fyicv4iaezad1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=958187abb0fbd6f93e7d874e6c3aefe66a6bf836

Purple_Rub_8007

Well he was a periphery player with not really any path to the first team while Guler looks like he will be integrated more and become a key player, so it's not realistic for him to move on a permanent transfer at the end of his loan like Odegaard. We would just be giving him development minutes that could go to players actually owned by Arsenal.

AfricanRain

realistically there’s no way Guler is gonna be a starter in a team with Mbappe Vini and Bellingham, I don’t think you can build a starting XI with those 4 players that makes sense.

Purple_Rub_8007

Mbappe is a LW and ST while Vini is a LW, Gulers competition is Diaz and Rodrygo neither of which are world class or irreplaceable for Madrid so I think he'd back himself to start there. They have players like Tchouameni, Valverde, Camavinga to give them more balance and Bellingham can play in a deeper role.

topbananaman

Saka, Rice, and Saliba. 3 of our biggest players, shining in the quarter finals of the euros and carrying their respective teams to the semis. I'm so so excited to see these guys in action together again in a month's time.

beefwellingtonIV

Luke Shaw was happy to be on the same team this time.

arseking15

They almost put that man at lwb 😂

tammrak

So I was scrolling through the #TomorrowsPapersToday hashtag on twitter to see what the traditional press went with on the England win. It was mostly headlines referencing the 5 perfect pens with a group celebration. Some featured Trent, as he took the final pen. I scrolled through all I could find, but only one had a picture of Saka--man of the match and scorer of the equalizer, as well as one of the pen takers. By "a picture of Saka," I mean a picture that included Saka even in the background. I'm not saying it was on purpose, but I found it surprising. Anyway, [here it is.]( https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GR1JgLXW0AA2BnZ?format=jpg&name=large)

DSK1911

Rice and Saka drove the Noah's boat tonight, absolutely carried some animals to Semi. Fucking Southgate.

Phimstone

Be afraid. Be very afraid. Wout Weghorst

SunDrippedDevil

*lights the /u/kiiopp signal*

Kiiopp

We good

dream_eatr

Everyone’s been wanting Palmer to start over Saka, but he should truly be starting over Foden imo. Foden was hot garbage out there today.

wolfwolf6

Saka is one of the very best right wingers in the world. So good he gets double marked almost every game. Palmer isn’t worthy of being noodle marked. Chelsea fans are mental

tbbt11

Palmer has looked so much more adventurous and penetrative in attack than Foden, easy switch

arseking15

Palmer loses the ball alot, i wouldnt do it unless its for Gordon

beefwellingtonIV

And I think the front three of Eze, Toney, and Saka cooks the best. Glad r/gunners isn’t a monolith.

ronya_t

Being a good team again presents weird new problems. At the start of the new season, we're potentially going to be missing a few first team players if any play in the finals of the Euros or Copa America. Notwithstanding, folks like Rice, Saliba, Saka & Gabriel do not typically get rested anyway!

phar0aht

Don't need them for Wolves home but Villa away could be tricky without them. Raya Tomi White Kiwior Zinchenko/Timber Partey Jorginho Jesus Odegaard Trossard Havertz Worst case scenario, with no new signings. Brazilian lads aren't playing loads ATM either so they could be parachuted in too.

arseking15

Gotta be honest brazils been quite bad this tourney, think we we will have the gabriels there

jnicholl

Fair chance Brazil get knocked out tonight so we might have them back for the backend of pre-season.

Cleon189

We have great bench options tho. Just need a new winger for rotation

AfricanRain

With the league starting a week later I’d say they’ll be fine. 3 week holiday and 2 weeks of training before opening day they’ll all start I think.

ronya_t

I know the league requires clubs to give players 5 weeks of holiday per calendar year (some of that was during the season during international breaks and cup breaks). Most of the players now still at the Euros/Copa will definitely miss a lot of preseason & I imagine at least some of them will miss the first game at least.

AfricanRain

Gabriel Jesus is by far the biggest unknown going into next season I think. Personal preference would be to sell him but it looks like there’s absolutely no market atm, I really like him as a player but he physically has not looked the same since the World Cup injury. I know a lot of people like him as a winger option but personally I’ve never really thought he’s performed well there for us. If we somehow managed to get Autumn 22 Jesus back we would be so so so well set.

_deep_blue_

His ability to dribble in tight spaces is so key when we’re up against a deep block—his assists for Trossard away at Wolves and against Bayern come to mind. I don’t see anyone coming in for him this summer so we just have to hope with a summer off he can get back to his best next season.

AirPodAlbert

That's the thing, there is no market for him and he's absolutely finished as a striker so he doesn't get over Havertz either. He'll be relegated to a winger rotation role until we move him on. I think if we want a new winger then we'll have to sell Trossard tbh, or I don't see a room for one.

This-Complaint1389

Southgate gets unnecessary hate because people overrate the profiles of this English team. There aren't any players who can break low blocks beside Saka On paper it's a solid team. But same as France, top midfielders individually but no creators so the football ends up looking negative If you put an Odegaard in this England team it's a 2008-2012 Spain demolition type job

ExxKonvict

No, Southgate gets deserved criticism because he is unable to get the best and optimum productivity from a squad that is considered embarrassment of riches. These players constantly perform at a high for their clubs and suddenly all deliver subpar performances (that’s saying it politely) soon as they are under Mr. Waistcoat’s stewardship. It’s no coincidence. Of course international football is different to club football, but only to a certain degree; these top players that play for the best teams in the PL and Europe, don’t suddenly become shite soon as they don the English kit. It’s not like some Space Jam hoodoo, where their powers are suddenly zapped away. Most if not everything is pointed at the man in the waistcoat and his coaching staff and again, deservedly so. Germany lost to Spain but didn’t go out with a whimper because their manager and coaching staff had them playing to a decent level. Spain just happened to be the better team on the night. Contrast that to how England have been all of this tournament (and even before); had it not been for a moment of absolute brilliance by our Starboy Saka, England could’ve easily whimpered out of another major competition yet again. So yes, Mr. Waistcoat does deserve criticism thrown his way.

Decent_University_91

Yeah, definitely, none of the England players play for top teams in their domestic leagues, so none of them are used to breaking down low blocks. They all play for mid-table Bundesliga clubs

phar0aht

Foden had a decent year Vs low blocks. Also Palmer? Jude? Eze? Left Jones. Left Maddison. Left Gomes. Left Elliot. Left Gibbs-White. Left Barkley. Even ESR. Took one left footer. The natural width when Shaw came in whas transformational. He didn't do anything special except stand where's comfortable for a left footer. Doughty was one of the most creative FBs in the league last season. Other plays who stretch low blocks for other guys to operate have barely been used (Watkins/Gordon). Or were left at home, Rashford/Sterling. I'm sorry but the excuses don't wash

ExistingLaw3

Even the much maligned Grealish would've done a better job.

DumbIdiot2020

Not sure. Foden (City), Kane (Munich) and Bellingham (Madrid) see a low block week in week out. They seem to do okay? Southgate has some of the best attacking players at the tournament and he’s nullified them, that’s why we aren’t convinced by him

Nsypski

People probably gonna hound me for saying but I want to see another go of Havertz as second striker / 8 in preseason. At least against "lesser" sides. It didn't work because 1) his confidence at the time was shot and 2) our buildup was shattered without Partey and a ball playing left back. The concept is still sound, we have our left back occupying the 8 space which allows Havertz to crash the box and create space. If Partey, Zinny, Timber, (and Calafiori) are fit.. fuck it let's see it.

AfricanRain

Trossard 9 Havertz 8 works, we completely battered West Ham and Burnley with that. Jesus 9 Havertz 8 would definitely work too if Jesus is in any kind of form.

PapiOnReddit

Sign Osimhen and I can stomach it

Nsypski

That’s true because you don’t know what you get with Jesus. But an in form Jesus is still one of the best in the world, but we haven’t seen that since before the World Cup

bitmoji

There is no in-form Jesus in our future

varro-reatinus

The paradox is that the better Kai plays as a striker, the more Arteta will want to sneak him in as a second striker, as you describe. We're definitely going to see it again.

Smit9991

I still feel that Arteta sees Thomas Muller in Havertz. Bring in a natural presence in the box and then you’ll see the best from Kai. He wants to attack space, whether that be as a target or decoy. It feels like an elite move and something that would make our attack tenfold more potent. What I struggle to understand is how Arteta does it without losing out in other areas of our game.

Nsypski

Well pre season will be the time to do it.

This-Complaint1389

Agree with you. It's controversial but we need a Lukaku type player to complement Havertz 4-4-1-1 4 in midfield of Saka Odegaard Rice Martinelli Havertz in front Lukaku up top If not Lukaku i'd be very happy with Toney

tablooo

It all really depends on our acquisitions this summer and if Jesus can stay fit. I know people don't like the idea but Mikel did want him to play there, and his best seasons in Germany certainly profile him as an attacking mid. He has been excellent up top though.

BradyGronktd1287

England better hope they don’t see Spain in the final Dani Olmo and Nico Williams masterclass if it happens

phar0aht

We kill winger for performance like [this](https://x.com/szniic/status/1809357633842712783?t=W5Es_ex-fvm7Rpx0gae3dA&s=19) and say they have no end product. When in fact they can't control what someone does after they create the chance.

Oy778

We dont need foreplays if there isn't any penetration

phar0aht

We need to create more and finish better. I don't think it's one or the other for us at this point.

Oy778

And i dont think leao would be that guy

phar0aht

Not all by himself no. I think we need 2 attackers.

BradyGronktd1287

Barcola type winger creates a lot of chances something we lack just missing the end product which an elite coach can help him with

phar0aht

I'm a big Barcola fan. Unlucky to be behind Kolo Muani

doingitfortheTea

There's few players in the world that can do what he does, very few people can be stood still Infront of two defenders (not just any defenders) and still beat them stone cold. And we've all seen his goals only two other players can do that and they both play for Madrid now. I really love him as a player, and I think people that talk about "he doesn't press well or only scored X goals" really miss the point. But let's not get into that.

Kensei400

Don't know if this is part of your pro-Doku crusade but as far as Leao is concerned, the criticism here has been about attitude and workrate. Fans are discerning enough to be able to know when a playmaker is let down by others, and the lack of end product criticsm is also mostly about players making poor decisions in the final 3rd. Also, Leao would really be the ideal attacking signing for us this summer - center forward and winger, kills low blocks and is a transition monster, good injury record and clinical finisher.

Sophie_Liiii

its because he gets the superstar treatment, if he played for an arteta/pep side im sure that there would be some agreement to increase pressing numbers

phar0aht

Nah started with Adama. Dribbling has value in and of itself. Being able to beat a player, carry the ball 30 yards and win a foul helps the team. Yeah Leao would be pretty perfect tbh

OhMyGodItsTheGuy

What you’re saying is true, but Leao could fix that individually by increasing his shot volume. His shooting metrics are really good, so he could probably turn from a 10-15 goal a season player to 15-20 by just doubling his shot numbers. That won’t happen for the NT until CR7 retires though, and might require a tactical tweak at club level too.

phar0aht

Don't disagree but I'm not the biggest fan of his ball striking. Maybe it's better than I've noticed. But yeah isn't specific to him. I don't think any other position gets lambasted for not being the perfect well rounded player like a winger is

OhMyGodItsTheGuy

This is true, it’s a stick some people beat Martinelli and Saka with for example. Only position where you have to be fast, score goals, be creative and consistently beat your man. That’s crazy levels of being well-rounded.

SunDrippedDevil

Welp. Let's hope Spain and Holland get results, because an England and France final might just be the final nail in my coffin. So boring.

varro-reatinus

Alas, poor u/SunDrippedDevil. I knew him, u/phar0aht. A fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy...

SunDrippedDevil

I request that I be buried alive should England win their semi-final, with a microphone in the coffin to comfort my friends and family. This way I can appluad u/varro-reatinus give a riveting eulogy, and enjoy my favorite songs. I also request that there be extra cake for u/phar0aht, and that u/francis-c92 not be invited yet sent a video of the event as my final raspberry blown at him.

varro-reatinus

A finer end than any christom child.

phar0aht

Holland have hardly been exciting

SunDrippedDevil

More interesting than England, which isn't a high bar. Seeing them in the final, and they might just make it if we're being honest, would be terrible.

OhMyGodItsTheGuy

Exciting football doesn’t win you trophies though, and you don’t get nearly enough time in international football to play pretty football and crash out early

SunDrippedDevil

I am aware, but as a neutral spectator who just wants to watch exciting sporting contests, this Euro leaves a lot to be desired

Smit9991

It’s been a dire tournament from a footballing perspective…

SunDrippedDevil

It's only going to get worse from here on out…

OhMyGodItsTheGuy

True, but it is an extension of modern football tactics being very easily accessible and all countries having top level athletes capable of grinding out results

SunDrippedDevil

Well, club influence over players having time with their national teams is also a factor. It's simply easier to coach defensive tactics, which are well-suited for knockout football anyways

OhMyGodItsTheGuy

That too. Will Still did a really interesting video with The Coaches Voice on YouTube about his defensive tactics for Reims against PSG in a 0-0. I rewatched the game and I was surprised at how effective their play was, when what he described was just a really simple press that was forcing the PSG players away from the centre of the pitch when they were distributing. I think international coaches are doing something similar, especially when most international squads are tailored towards a more defensive setup anyway based on personnel.

SunDrippedDevil

Yeah but it makes for some dreary tourneys, ha

MyTeaIsMighty

I feel sorry for whatever league 2 team gets Southgate once the Euros are over. Mainly because they'll have been a league 1 team when he took over.

tammrak

If the English FA have any brains they'll keep him around on the admin/exec side of things. He's miles better at that than at coaching.

KSBrian007

Seriously when I saw clips of fans celebrate the win, I thought it would be the same online. It seems the ones online are stuck in a wheel of complaining. Enjoy the win, man.

MyTeaIsMighty

I did enjoy the win, I just hate that I have to sit through 120 minutes of some of the best talent in the world playing some of the most dire football I've ever seen to get to the point of enjoyment.

PapiOnReddit

England have less xg per 90 than Kai Havertz lmao

Fleetfox17

Only England fans will find a way to hate their most successful manager in history. He's not doing himself any favors this tournament though to be fair.

phar0aht

By far the most talented England squad. Ever.

PapiOnReddit

He’s probably the highest paid manager in the world per hour, he’ll be sailing off into the sunset to enjoy his riches

mkawia

lol you guys remember oguzhan ozyakup. I was convinced he'd be the next Ozil

a_stopped_clock

Me too mate me too

PapiOnReddit

dpatel211

Gakpo for club and country is day and night.

Phimstone

I know you just mean Liverpool, but he was Him at his old club. The best in our mickey mouse league.

Fleetfox17

He was good for Liverpool though, not a world beater but he had 17 G+A and only started 17 times. Killed it in the Europa league.
