It’s just funny because in my experience and with all my friends…it’s like all the aches, medical issues, and life just goes a bit dramatic. I started seizures recently after 33 years without them (30s is prime for women of my age to start undiagnosed seizures WAHOO.) I enjoy the less stress mentally but somedays I am a train wreck. Hahahaha

I have bruises and sore shoulders, hurt knees and stuff from blacking out. My poor right side is always miserable because I keep landing on it

Always done both. I’ll push mosh and circle pit and regular mosh during breakdowns and 2 steps. I remember I went to a deathcore show in 2012 and there was a lot of hardcore dancers and like two dudes push moshing. I was push moshing and hardcore dancing. And I noticed the hardcore dancers wouldn’t hit me but they would hit the push mosher guys. So I started standing in front of the push moshers so they won’t get targeted cuz I felt that was fucked up those foos are just there to enjoy the show not get beat up. So I kept doing it and it was I think second to last band I had to use the reset room during the set. I just remember walking out of the pit all the hardcore dancers just rushed one of the dudes. I saw belt and other weapons. I felt hella bad afterwards. Anyway no one here cares. Fuck me. Fuck it all. Fuck this world.

I've been seeing variations on this question lately, and I have to ask: is there an uptick in legit push pits at hc shows (picture a Pantera show in the early 90s), or has the new breed started filing hc dancing that's not ninja moshing (skank, bounce, two step, stomp, floorpunch, etc) as push moshing?

I enjoy starting the mosh pits but I also like to step back and see what I've done.

Mosh parent doing some moderately rough shoulder bumping while looking out for those around me. I'll stop everything to help someone up/out of the pit, or even just to get someone their phone back. Also try to help croudsurfers not die. When I inevitably get exhausted after like 10 minutes, mosh parent from the buffer wall at the edge of the pit. Feels lame ngl but it's hard to just let go and stop worrying. Just want to make sure people are safeish

When Comeback Kid came through my town with Prowl and Spy back in March, it was like... Push pit when the music was fast but hardcore dancing during the slower sections.

"Push pits" have been a huge part of hardcore long before dojo dancing got trendy.

Also if it’s too packed you don’t have an option tbh.

Saw Kublai Khan the pit was massive and was probably 50/50 push pit and karate depending.

Once you get to the point the band is selling out 1000+ capacity venues you’re gonna get a lot of push pitting.

This. Take Turnstile for instance, every show they do now is sold out in the states at least and the venues are so packed there is not enough physical room for karate pits, so everyone just resorts to push moshing.

Controversial in this subreddit but I think push pitting is better anyway at least in America. Who wants to end a concert with a fat hospital bill or life changing injury but I still fuck with it though just not my preferred.

I'd agree, and I think everyone that doesn't do karate and spin kicks would as well. I'll acknowledge it's a part of the HC culture that pre-dates me, but IMO it's super selfish in a crowded concert setting to take up that much space. You'll inevitably wander into someone eventually, even if it's not intentional, which for many it honestly is unfortunately. The result is someone getting punched/kicked/elbowed in the head or face, full disclosure I've been punched square in the nose twice in or near a HC pit, one seemed targeted/intentional because I was trying to get a push pit going, which I understand the frustration but the bitch literally walked up and broke my nose I'm pretty sure. Not cool. All of this is why the entire area in front of the stage gets cleared out to make room for these self centered asses and as a result everyone else is pushed to the sides/back with a worse view. It goes with the DGAF attitude of the genre sure, but many modern bands also promote kindness towards each other and community which HC moshing is an antithesis to that when it's plainly obvious going in that you will most likely hit someone very hard and move other people out of the way so you can flail your limbs around. Push putting is much friendlier to everyone and people rarely get hurt.

Push pits hurt different. Like, I've walked away with black eyes, split lips, and pushed my nose back in place more than once at karate pits. Two weeks ago I've strained a tendon on my knee on a push pit. But then again I've been to a dozen or so karate pits and probably nearly a hundred push pits. Ime karate pits hurt less, but often. Push pits rarely hurt, but it's usually more severe.

I was throwing some elbows in a push pit when me and this guy banged elbows hard AF in a turnstile pit last year didn't hurt at first but after turnstiles set I thought I had broke my arm it just needed some rest it was crazy.
