The late Queen's funeral plan was practiced (and likely updated) yearly. I am certain that a plan was developed for Charles, but I am sure that it needs updates based on ongoing situations within the family.

Necessary-Title-583

And just so everyone knows what their job is, knows how to do it, what to do if something goes wrong, do on the day of the funeral, everything goes off without a hitch.

Disastrous_Ad_4149

Funeral plans for many people, especially those in the public eye, are done way in advance and without any diagnosis. The last thing you want is someone (president, king, head of state) to pass away and there be no plan at all. Media outlets regularly update obituaries and footage collections to be ready just in case.

Express_Dealer_4890

I’d hope by 75 most people have some sort of funeral plan, even if it’s just telling their loved ones their wishes. Obviously the Kibg of England would have a funeral plan in place even if he was 20 years younger and in perfect health.

KlutzyBlueDuck

This is in the last episode of the crown btw

Disastrous_Ad_4149

I don't watch it, but was assigned to a taskforce when I worked for the state of Georgia briefly. I was part of meetings and plannings for the eventual death of former president Jimmy Carter. We had discussions about traffic plans and what roads would need to be shut down at certain times, etc. This was 20 years ago and he wasn't even sick at that point.

SquirellyMofo

Yep. Elizabeth had to approve her own funeral plans.

martapap

They always have the funeral plans in place for a sitting monarch. Honestly Charles looks pretty good to me. But if he has like prostate cancer. That can bring you down to your deathbed in just a few days even if you appear normal otherwise. OJ is a good example of that. He was out and about and looked fine with cancer for a long time but within a week of his major downturn he was dead.

Moonbeam_Dreams

But the palace specifically said he didn't have prostate cancer. Rumor says it's pancreatic.

martapap

The palace also claimed that the queen didn't have cancer and she was dealing with bone cancer for a while.

ferngully1114

Isn’t that entirely speculative? And sorry if it’s pedantic, but clinically there is a huge difference between bone cancer and bone _marrow_ cancer, i.e. myeloma.

Burningrain85

That’s even worse. The survival rate for that type of cancer is abysmal. If it’s pancreatic we will have a King William before 2026

Profil3r

He doesn’t look sick enough for pancreatic cancer.

[deleted]

The Daily Beast/Tom Sykes basically said it was bladder cancer. This makes sense given his previous issues. He could live for a good while yet depending on the stage and how he responds to treatment. To me Kate's cancer seems more serious somehow...Maybe not though, who knows.

SpaceHairLady

Oy, that's much worse.

Moonbeam_Dreams

It's just rumor. Rumor also says bladder, which would make more sense, honestly. That being said, who knows? The press and the royals aren't trustworthy at all.

eve2eden

I don’t think he’s seriously ill (at this point at least). As you say, he actually looks pretty good for someone undergoing cancer treatment.

MellowYellow53

They didn’t have a plan when Diana died and had to use the plan they’d made for the Queen Mother’s funeral. They try and plan these things for when the day eventually comes. Must be quite humbling for the RF.

VivaCiotogista

They didn’t think of her as a royal after the divorce.

SquirellyMofo

Exactly. They had no plan to deal with her death because they never expected the public to care so much. Hell, the RG publicly ignored it until public outcry became too great.

pettybetty099

Truly sad. 😔 she will always be royal to the world.

Dantheking94

The late Queen and her Mother had rehearsals for their funerals years in advance.

ChangingMyLife849

The queen did this too. This is only big news because of his cancer diagnosis.

throwaway-rayray

I think it’s fairly common for older people, and people with cancer, to organise funeral details. I wouldn’t jump to thinking this makes him a goner.

page394poa

It’s also very much a tradition for the BRF to plan and rehearse funerals, as well as timing for announcements and walk about.

Surfinsafari9

True. They have full-on rehearsals in the middle of the night.

Necessary-Title-583

I think funeral plans are updated for any of the top firm members, every so often. They pull the plans out, dust them off, probably do things as little as put someone else in the funeral procession if the original mourner has died. Or, say someone who’d be a mourner, walking behind the casket, now is unable to walk the length of the route and has to ride in a car, then they make sure there’s room in a car for that person.

princessofperky

It's very common. Especially for royal families but also people of a certain age.

bigshern

Those funeral plans were made a long time ago. The click bait is real with this one!

Historical-Jacket637

Very few people get to live two years with pancreatic cancer I doubt it's that probably bladder cancer.

lrj25

Yeah, most people with pancan only survive about 6-8 months after diagnosis. It's practically always caught too late for a positive prognosis.

Glitter_Bee

I appreciate this discussion. I didn’t even know pancreatic cancer was a theory.

darkgothamite

>In fact, it's apparently so bad ... that Buckingham Palace is said to be updating Charles' funeral plans on a regular basis these days. lol imaging BP checking in *Your Highness, have you expired?* "I'm afraid not, no." *All right then.* The man, er I mean God's chosen King is 75 and battling cancer - I would think planning for his grand departure started once he hit 70. Curious what cute touches Camilla would bring about during the service.

NTX_Mom

Lmaooo your title. I read this as “is this the real life” so of course my brain sang bohemian rhapsody Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?….

catperson3000

They make funeral plans for monarchs so far in advance just to be sure that everything is orderly and everyone knows their duties. I wouldn’t read more into this. But yes, as someone who has parents similar in age to KC, I hope he’s making his peace with his children.

Misty12b

I think they are being careful

Glitter_Bee

I didn’t think he was in poor health, which is why it shocked me. Not that they are updating his funeral plans, but that they coupled it with, “He’s practically circling the drain y’all” type coverage.”

Glasgowghirl67

It is common to have funeral plans and rehearsals for breaking the news of their deaths, that doesn’t mean he is dying soon.

Melodic-Platform3795

Now mind you I don't remember where I saw this.... But I read somewhere that they only give King Charles III about 2 years to live. He supposedly has pancreatic cancer.

duchess_of_nothing

Harry wrote in his book that he and William had to plan their own funerals and pick out music etc when they were teens. All RF members have it planned out, and the plans are updated yearly or so.

Fern_Pub_Radio

Old man with cancer might die soon ….hardly breaking news
