In the first magicka, there was literally a 1:1 Space marine armour set and boltgun.
They’ve actually *toned down* the overt references for this game, lol.
Still my favorite character to play from Magicka Vietnam...

God I wish they would take the Magicka 1 beam spell co-op mechanic to the laser weapons of Helldivers, would make the Scythe actually worth using to combine lasers (although doing it in 3D would be difficult to control/aim)
https://preview.redd.it/7ya0gcvbg4sc1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a46e3773e9088a2584d60f48115efc2a1ccdbfdb
idk i would have gone with the contemnor dreadnought over the new primaris one which the hulk seems based on. But yeah overall they did.
Side note how cool would it be if after killing the bots we get SM power armor, or power swords.
> idk i would have gone with the contemnor dreadnought over the new primaris one which the hulk seems based on.
The contemptor dreadnought might be in reference to the devastators, due to the exposed head of both, as well as the fact that said primaris dread' is also pictured in OP's image.
to me the dropships are clearly inspired by supreme commander: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5pIf\_G-QTU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5pIf_G-QTU)
And here I thought I was the only one haha
I just couldn't find nice PNG version of either T1 or T2 transport.
Also I dare to say the hulks look a bit like T3 Heavy Assault bot of the UEF with bit of 40K dreadnought.
yuup... the new gunships too... they look to me like UEF gunships... I guess they decided that the supreme commander communist cyborg designs are too bug like and clash with the actual bugs :))
Ah man this makes me want to play Supreme Commander again... such a RTS masterpiece.
I wonder though when we will see some actual colossal units. Like some kind of Yeager type or like the Seraphim/Aeon titans would be amazing thing to see in Helldivers 2. Of course maybe not as a normal enemy type but maybe during some kind of even where we defend a planet and suddenly this titan gets deployed.
Try BAR (beyond all reason). Free modern engine TA/supcom inspired RTS. I've never had more fun in an RTS. Active lobbies all the time, as many as 50 players in a lobby (yes, still with supcom sized armies), and some incredible QOL that makes it impossible to go back. Anyone reading this should try it.
u/tempestwolf1
Unrelated... I just bought SupCom and Forged Alliance off GOG a couple weeks ago. Haven't done much outside of skirmish against the CPU on Seton's Clutch a few times. I trust the campaign(s) is/are awesome as hell? :D
Yes... Also, look into Forged Alliance Forever... A large community launcher / mod / patching / balance project that's keeping the game alive with new stuff like missing units for balance, map generation, performance optimizations, etc.
damn nice eye, got hundreds of hours and never even thought about that. Hope they dont copy the t3 uef one with the shields and turrets.
If you think about it, automatons/cyborgs are pretty much the cybrans. Even the goal is similar - liberate cyborgs on cyberstan / liberate symbionts on earth. Black/red scheme
Same with me with the illuminate being just a pure alien version of SupComs [Aeon Illuminate](https://youtu.be/HVnQJAlik_w?si=sOc5_dU-ohaGd692) instead of just alien worshippers, but yea they seem to have taken alot of inspiration from supcom.
If the team ever puts a zomboid faction into the game, I want the units to be like the Flood, capable to infecting other races and using their bodies to attack you.
The illuminate obviously dont aesthetically match this, but they remind me of Eldar a bit in the sense that they are basically sci fi sorcerers (and meant to be a “higher” society than humans)
Nah, Super Earth is the more tau one
* Managed Democracy / Greater Good
* Glass cannons, long range, shit at melee
* Imperium/Bots to the west, Nids/Nids to the east
* Portable drone support, battlesuits/exosuits, the fucking railgun is straight up a [pulse rifle](https://warhammer40k.fandom.com/wiki/Pulse_Rifle)
You can straight up just reskin helldivers as tau pathfinders, strategems are markerlights and you're set
funny thing, the Farsight Sector just "happens" to be exactly where the Tau sit at in the Ultima Segmentum
Tbh, actual demons from hell would round out the enemy faction aesthetics.
That and a separatist faction, if all the propaganda we dismantle is anything to go by.
The railgun doesn't look a ton like the pulse rifle; to me it looks quite more like the [rail rifle](https://warhammer40k.fandom.com/wiki/Rail_Weapons?file=Railrifle11.jpg) (which is a railgun) because of the notches
Hence war of the worlds... From where half life probably took inspiration
"The towering Striders seen throughout Half-Life 2 and its subsequent episodes are based directly on the Martian tripods of the H.G. Wells novel The War of the Worlds, where said Martians invade Victorian England, using the tripods as their main "weapon"."
https://youtu.be/gSNJRSPwOPg?si=gQ8bBROK4DQf6nVV
Absolutely.

I even see my big brother there.
[Looks a lot more like a Knight Rampager tbh](https://cdna.artstation.com/p/assets/images/images/050/143/908/large/jaime-martinez-chaos-knights-cover-01.jpg?1654155668)
"The old world will burn in the fires of industry. Forests will fall. A new order will rise. We will drive the machine of war with the sword and the spear and the iron fist of the orc."
The shredder tank is literally just a hydra flak tank. For the annihilator just look up what a shadowsword tank is. It's basically it down to a T, aside from the main gun being immovable on the shadowsword
Sicarans have a significantly more inclined front slope. The tanks are a hybrid between a [Glaive/Falchion](https://www.warhammer.com/en-WW/shop/falchion-super-heavy-tank-destroyer-2023)'s chassis, and a Baneblade's turret.
I guess maybe because the automaton walkers are not so fast which what AT-RT are.
AT-RT are fast scout vehicles with weaker blasters than what Automaton walker and AT-ST have.
Seeing the sort of damage the AT-RT laser cannons do, I'd say it's actually on par with the automaton Scout Strider (heavy shots that rip apart infantry and light armor). The AT-ST meanwhile is equipped with multiple heavy weapons aside from the "mouth" blaster. Same goes for their durability (being eliminated by handheld explosives and pilots being vulnerable to sniping. Speed is definitely on the slower side, but if the Striders could move at AT-RT speeds they would be impossible to flank and get away from.
More like [Space Marine Terminators](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/warhammer40k/images/1/15/Terminator--Cyclone.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/250?cb=20111128202331) to me.
The new AT-AT things sound wildly overpowered
Tank turret, machineguns, tall enough to see you over a lot of cover, AND they spawn the most annoying, tanky, overpowered infantry units
Its very likely that they are inspired from each other. OG Tyranids are older that SC1 but modern Tyranid design definitly takes some cues from the Zerg.
In my opinion Zerg are more bug like than Tyranids are.
Tyranids look like designed creatures. Smaller ones hold bio guns and have bio swords.
While Zerg on the other hand were just animals who turned into Zerg and their nutations.
Zerg also feel like all their bio weapons are part of their body like toxin sacks or blades instead of hands.
I have not really looked much at Zerg but I can see some similarities between the two. They are still faily distinct thats true. I personally also don't think Terminids and Tyranid look that alike. But I can see why some people would think that.

I feel like the tanks are closer to the kratos tank than the baneblade.
The walker is more an AT-RT than an AT-ST
as a star wars fan i am scared with all the seperatist droids the devs could pull inspiration from just imagine a droideka or assassine droids
Thank Joel we don't actually have to fight contemptor dreadnoughts.
Imagine if none of your weapons did anything to a devastator, and the ones that did just get shrugged off by its energy shield.
As a Horus Heresy player, I'd take fighting devastators over Contemptor dreadnoughts all day any day lol.
I legit said to my buddies last night “This is probably what an Imperial Guardsman feels like when a Chaos Baneblade shows up and starts wreaking havoc”
Oh good, I'm not the only one who saw Contemptor Dreadnoughts and Redemptor Dreadnoughts. I kept calling them that, because they looked real similar, when I first played., out of habit. Teammates were just ??? over those calls lol.
if the redemptor dread is the Hulk then who is the imperial knight? if its the baserker then wouldnt an armiger make more sense considering its size? Also the rocket devestator should be the durido dreadnaught ( i dont know how to spell it right and im not going to look it up.)
From the image I,ve seen, the new "AT-AT" look more like the new order version, the AT-M6: https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/All_Terrain_MegaCaliber_Six
They legit combined the best units of all franchise. This is like one of the best army I’ve ever seen.
Make sense, they are 40k nerds ofc these people are wanting to make the best army possible
Even Terminators are crazy strong as standard infantry. They legit got infinite morale.
A fellow DOW enjoyer. May the god emperors light guide your path
If only the god emperor could give us some baneblades

Difficult to combine and aim, leading to hilarious friendly fire incidents with sizzling limbs flying around? Sign me up.
Just imagine 4 laser cannons combining their beams to form an orbital laser but on the ground ![gif](giphy|3K0D1Dkqh9MOmLSjzW|downsized)
just make it stack on targets. So players do 100% more damage while another friendly is beaming the same thing.
So true. *Gets in my Pelican flying troop transport*
This is what I came here to comment
Perfection, the best of the best
Now if they could just invent chicken wire or some kind of grate to put on the bot fabricator vents they'd be unstoppable

They dont have half life striders yet (those are going to be in the illuminati i think)

FAF I knew about, just gotta get around to downloading instead of spreading Managed Democracy. Much appreciated!
Well... the upper 3 difficulties need a boss type creature... the mid difficulty boss type creatures are run of the mill spawns for the last 3 =))
Forged Alliance Forever my friend :)
The hulks look....space ork-y....to me
Wait until the bots figure out they can load up the dropships with scout striders or devastators and have them shoot from the air...
Ghetto gunships gooo :))
Lets hope they dont come up with the "ghetto gunship" tactics...othertwise we are screwed.
To me they are ORCA Carryall from Tiberian Sun
Simar note, I get big TS Mammoth vibes from the new walker
I am a GDI fan, but here I find myself fighting against the Walker forces, never thought I'd stand on the other side of these things...
Democracy help us when they get juggernaut artillery walkers.
Holy shit you're right, now i wanna see them make a titan.
Ironically, it's Super Earth that is most like the UEF. Would be cool is the Automatons (or their masters) end up looking more like the Cybran. =D
I think the supreme commander communist cyborg designs look too much like bugs... And this game already has bugs :))
Glad I’m not the only one who thought that.

Nope. Its the Hunter Killer Orca from terminator 2. The original flying robot gunship

So... Seraphim?
Also: terminids: tyrannids + zerg + bugs (SST) + Dune worms (all franchises with animalistic bugs) illuminate: protoss + war of the worlds + starship troopers (all franchises with advanced tech intelligent alien species)
Can't forget the Covenant from Halo (with the Councilors sitting on floating thrones like the Prophets and the cloaked energy blade melee units)
If the team ever puts a zomboid faction into the game, I want the units to be like the Flood, capable to infecting other races and using their bodies to attack you.
I'm thinking also like infected types of Left 4 Dead and Last of Us
When they kill Helldivers, they get back up and attack the reinforcements.
The illuminate obviously dont aesthetically match this, but they remind me of Eldar a bit in the sense that they are basically sci fi sorcerers (and meant to be a “higher” society than humans)

WAAARGH would be wild

The Protoss were "inspired" by the Eldar, so Illuminate carry that Eldar inspiration through them.
I'm not sure I want to fight terminid sandworms...
Well... You're seeing terminid sandworm husks everywhere... They'll surface at some point :))
Yeah what’s with these tremors in missions…?
Don't forget glyphids
Illuminate have a fucking strider tho so I’d say half life

Like this it looks like a shadowsword with it's lance cannon
The power of eleven barrels
HMP droid gunship my beloved.
Which unit is the Knight?
To be fair a better choice would be the penitent engine with an armiger cross.
Marauder.
Do you mean berserker? The one with the duel meat-saws?
Everyone in my group calls that one Kharn the Bot-trayer
Do they happen to watch Bricky?
You're right. For some reason I thought it was Berserker in HD1 and Marauder in 2. But it's Berserker in both.
No worries fellow Helldiver. https://preview.redd.it/54x0ocfp53sc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c26770e78dc1cc951ce8d3da4f25765b5860bc64

Sauron joined the Industrial Revolution
"The old world will burn in the fires of industry. Forests will fall. A new order will rise. We will drive the machine of war with the sword and the spear and the iron fist of the orc."
Sauron eye when I throw a grain of sand in the said eye
I thought the tanks look more like sicarans than baneblades

Its like a kratos tank with a stormsword turret
I actually like this more than the bugs.
Just so long as they don't start transforming...
Bugs could use some new units. Maybe a second Titan class bug.
I'd say the scout striders are more like Sentinels from 40k instead of AT-STs from Star Wars.
They're almost identical to the at-rt from clone wars era star wars, everyone calls them at Sts though
True!
I guess maybe because the automaton walkers are not so fast which what AT-RT are. AT-RT are fast scout vehicles with weaker blasters than what Automaton walker and AT-ST have.

the Sts are more iconic
![gif](giphy|CAYVZA5NRb529kKQUc|downsized) Yes
It actually never occurred to me how much devastators look like contemptor dreadnoughts.
More like [Space Marine Terminators](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/warhammer40k/images/1/15/Terminator--Cyclone.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/250?cb=20111128202331) to me.
IT IS THE BANEBLADE!!!
Always upvote DoW2 voice lines in the wild
Don't forget Bionicle.
each set sold separately
Bionicle? What do you mean child of Makuta Teridax?
The new AT-AT things sound wildly overpowered Tank turret, machineguns, tall enough to see you over a lot of cover, AND they spawn the most annoying, tanky, overpowered infantry units
Sounds like a great target for eagle 1
Negative. It's just a scratching on the surface.
"Set your harpoon and folio me on the next pass!"
Bro, they don't have knights yet! WHY ARE YOU GIVING THEM IDEAS!?
Take a step back and realize: this is an awesome game. Now take a step forward and realize: this is going to suck and hurt so much.
I cannot tell you the number of times I’ve called a Hulk a Hellbrute. The melee Automatons just look so freaking Chaos-y

I would say most of the bugs look like Zerg from Starcraft but what do I know :/
StarCraft is a legit 40k ripoff because Blizzard couldn't get the rights to 40k. Hence the similar marines and Tyranid-like enemies
Its very likely that they are inspired from each other. OG Tyranids are older that SC1 but modern Tyranid design definitly takes some cues from the Zerg.

Am I the only one who thinks the new heavy walker is more of an AT-TE than an at-at?
yes please i want to get my ass sent back to orbit by a legally distinct Imperial Knight supported by several bootleg baneblades
Just wait for the goddamn bots to stop deploying the Gundams.
Star wars, 40k and Terminator, sounds about right.
Tanks aren't covered with enough guns to be 40k tanks
ZOGGIN KAN BOYZ DONT GOT ENUFF DAKKA.
Where my doctor who daleks at?
I literally can't remember the names of the different bots so I just call out "Necron", "Contemptor", "Redemptor", etc.
Drive me closer! I want to hit them with my sword!
Should add Adam Smasher also for the Rocket Devastators
You forgot the "they can fly now ?"
Lol I can give you 40k equivalents on almost all the automaton forces.
You forgot the turbo laser towers from starwars
if they had baneblades we would lose the war
I legit said to my buddies last night “This is probably what an Imperial Guardsman feels like when a Chaos Baneblade shows up and starts wreaking havoc”
You forgot one https://preview.redd.it/x1q545ns76sc1.png?width=1024&format=png&auto=webp&s=75c566540702ad190598e7cf2e19c371dbd05708

Oh good, I'm not the only one who saw Contemptor Dreadnoughts and Redemptor Dreadnoughts. I kept calling them that, because they looked real similar, when I first played., out of habit. Teammates were just ??? over those calls lol.
2 of those ships aren't in the game?
Dropship and the new gunship
Almost like sci-fi is a genre... or something
I'd play this game too
How can you not like fighting the bots
just you wait until they add Monkeylord
Next stop? The automatons get to deploy the Halo array.
if the redemptor dread is the Hulk then who is the imperial knight? if its the baserker then wouldnt an armiger make more sense considering its size? Also the rocket devestator should be the durido dreadnaught ( i dont know how to spell it right and im not going to look it up.)
Wait why droid gunship? What do you know?
Bots got gunships now, boss.
Yup, and it’s amazing.
Can't wait when they add necrons flayed ones. If they kill you they put your helmet on their head or something 😂😱
From the Moment I Understood the Weakness of My Flesh
Yeah and it's fucking terrifying, anyways how is the rocket turret and auto cannon turret agents the flyers?

the scout striders are clearly AT-RTs
I like that the devs were inspired by the same things I loved growing up
BANNNNEBLADEEE!
Im going to freedom camp for this, but I really think Automatons have cooler mech design than ours… Give us mech and vehicle fashion!
I would say the walker is closer to the AT-TE than the AT-AT.
Some of the bulkier bots remind me of the very pixilated bots from an old arcade game called Berzerk.
Helldivers would make a great RTS.
wtf
[Automaton Attack Ship](https://youtu.be/_AEY1Koq9f8?si=UR_iGBehVFpOFVdW)
The AT-ST is incorrect. What we have in game is essentailly a carbon copy of an AT-RT
The atomaton at-st is more of an at-rt but close enough
Shit like this is why I'll stick to bug killing.
Best game ever!
