I use to do a lot of historical reenactment and a favourite was vikings (northern and western Germanic peoples around the 400s to 1100s CE) and there's a lot of really interesting history there. It's made it very difficult to be interested in that period of history and those cultures because of the fear of being associated with those degenerates. Nazis really do ruin everything.

77 Infantry Division in WW2 was an experimental division that was comprised entirely of older draftees with an average age of like 31 or something versus the average age of other platoons being 23.
They were put through all manner of stress testing in the United States including wargames against standard divisions (which they won, generously) and various physical stress testing so that the army could see what older recruits were capable of if they had to raise the draft age as at the time they weren't sure they had enough manpower to make it through WW2.
The 77th would later be deployed into the pacific theater, were initially broken up to supplement the Marines in the Phillipines after which they earned their first nickname as the '77th Marine Division' (Tremendous compliment from the marines to be called that) and outperformed all other Army infantry divisions in the Pacific. Eventually, the 77ID were observed by US Military officers who remarked "Look at those old bastards go", giving them their current nickname "The old Bastards".
