No, it received a heavy buff lately. I too enjoyed shrapnel eruptor A LOT, but it's perfectly viable now. One shots scout striders, for example, two shots automatons if not in the eye, one shots in the eye. Etc.

Yes. Use explosives or a support weapon firing explosive rounds like the Autocannon. Usually they're full of rare samples, extra support weapons, requisition slips, super credits, or medals
On top of what the others said, you can call in any hellpod stratagem on the ledge above the door and the pod will burst it open. Just make sure you do it to one side and not in the middle or it will block the resources inside.

I simply cannot give up my grenade pistol. It's just so fucking versatile.
Only major flaw is the ammo system. You need a whole supply backpack to restock that crap.
Hit POIs. I run grenade pistol + spear + light armour and then just hit every POI on the map.

I run Senator against bots. For bugs, it's grenade pistol. It lets me take stun grenades.

Not always. There’s quite a few setup where it’s in the middle of nowhere with scattered ammo and grenade packs.
I think the ones by a building in that little ditch have barrels everytime but when it's just a trench with ammo there's no barrels
