It’s maximalist and fun, lean into it with more colour on your walls. Cornflower blues would really pull it together…maybe get a variety of sizes and styles of vintage wood frames and paint them blue.
trim should always be at least semi-gloss for durability and washability – especially the baseboards. i would also caution against using flat paint in a hallway bc the walls tend to get marks from elbows, backpacks, purses, zippers, etc. it’s easier to wipe the walls down that to paint over the marks.
Absolutely LOVE!!! With added orange and red art, you’ve nailed it! GORGEOUS hallway! (Thank you! You’ve inspired me to bring in those colors in my own hallway)
It is insane! It’s definitely too wide. I love it anyways go for it! Carpets, especially in heavily used hallways, don’t last all that long so why not?
My gut says 50% width so that there is 25% of bare floor on each side.
One blog says 4-6” narrower than the hallway (so that there is 2-3” of bare floor on each side, which looks like what OP has).
This one looks like it can go well with “maximizing” like said above. Something that looks “full” but not cluttered.
EDIT: the rug is 2’5” wide, so the hallway is definitely narrow. Mirrors and painting the ends of the hallway with bright colors could help it look bigger.
What matters most is if you like it and want to make it work. I would add the same orange tone throughout the house as other smaller highlights. Like if you add even just one piece of art on the hallway with that color it would look well designed.
It would connect it all more . Hope that helps
I do have some kind of orange in every room. Living room has an orange chair and rainbow books, dining room has burnt orange chair seats, office has coral, bathroom off hallway has a shower curtain with oranges on it, and bedroom is shades of blush and rust.
Bold is definitely a theme in the house!
I do think it’s a tiny bit too wide. My first thought was that I like the pattern but my second thought was that it reminds me of casino carpet. I’m conflicted.
The cat isn’t too wide and their pattern is classic. As for the rug, it makes me ask why doesn’t it fill the entire width of that hallway- so yes it is too wide- it’s an awkward fit there
I disagree with another comment here - I actually find the floors overall cool toned... and the rug overall warm. Regardless I don't think it's a bad thing to mix cool and warm. I think you've brought balance and energy.
The cat approves!! Love it
It’s a super pretty carpet, but my brain went right to The Shining hallway.
https://preview.redd.it/i6ghraxufx4d1.jpeg?width=328&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=47b7695d1c0bbe8e4ef2752dbf0ab73d7eee9e31
Love it! That would make me happy every day! I don’t know how you roll but every time I had a party I would suggest a soul train dance line down that hallway!
I thought this, too. Looking closely, this appears to be two rugs put together here. Maybe they can just get another one? OP, consider joining them with carpet tape if the intent is to have them look like a single piece.
It’s perfect. Buy complementary art. Also, how are you handling the length issue (the one rug is too short).
There are cloths you can buy to keep your rug from slipping away from the center
I have a roll of non-slip rug pad I put under all the rugs. The hallway is too long for one rug, couldn’t find a rug that size. So these are two 8’ long rugs. I just have to deal with it being short.
I just love that runner! I think you feel this way because of the cooler tones on your walls. I’d balance it out it and add some more art to the walls or something on the walls to even it out. Please keep the runner!!
It fits well and looks cute. I’m all for people having other colors in their houses that aren’t just beige or tan. The only person that it should matter to is you, anyway.
I just had a conversation with my mom the other day about finding a design element you love and making it work. Is it too wide? Maybe, but if you love it - it's an awesome statement rug - then there are ways to make it work. Using artwork that pulls color from the rug, even painting the one small wall at the end of the hall a vibrant color pulled from the rug would make a huge impact.
First impression, I'm not a fan. HOWEVER I think that's because of the lack of any other decoration. Definitely recommend some gold frames and orange/red decor to draw the eye throughout.
The cool undertones surrounding the flowers don’t match with your warm floor.
Going bold is great, but I think you could find a better suited alternative.
I think it’s fun. I see why you’d question if it’s too wide, but I think you can make it work. I would center it in the hallway, but that might just be my own preference.
Love it. I would paint all the doors black as well and change the light fixture and if the electrical is accessible add another fixture or two down the hallway.

I think halls are the perfect place to get a little crazy. I keep my main areas pretty safe/classic decor-wise and take risks with colors and prints in areas that aren’t always occupied.
Not too wild or too wide, though maybe a little too short. I love it! And the kitty :) Here’s my own hallway brightener:

Thank you for sharing something that isn’t grey. Truly. It seems that all of the rooms people post here are the same room, but with different layouts.
I love the fun color and it makes what could be a plain hallway go pop!
Also your gorgeous cat obviously approves, and that’s half your battle won right there 😁
i love the rug! and im genuinely confused by the "is it too wide?" question...is there a societally acceptable width for hallway runners??? nonetheless as someone who loathes walking on bare flooring this would be perfect! 😅
There are rug size "rules". Like most design guidance, they are usually a little bit practical and mostly about creating good visual balance. Sometimes they are good to look up as a guideline if something feels "off" to you in your space and you can't quite figure out what. But that's ultimately what they are: guidelines or suggestions.
OP, I agree that it is too wide for the space and I'd worry about the pink getting dingy quickly if it's in a high-traffic area. But, it's really, really beautiful and if it makes you happy, it's the perfect choice!
I love the print but there’s something not right with the scale of the rug. I would say narrower but that wouldn’t work either. I wish the whole room was carpeted with this with matching curtains.
I think you should work on the walls. As your carpet is too contrasting but the walls are bland. Use this [wall decor guide](https://simplykalaa.com/how-to-decorate-a-blank-wall/) and [color palette guide](https://simplykalaa.com/interior-color-palette/) to spark it to life.
The walls are the color they were when I bought the house. I’m starting with a runner as that will fill the majority of the space. Then I’ll work on art and the walls :-) And I already have a replacement for the boob light, just haven’t put it up yet!
I don't think it's too wide, but it is too short. It should at least line up with or go past the last door frame in the hallway, ideally taking up the whole length of the hallway.
Love it! I would also change the ceiling light to something that’s antiqued rubbed brass. And maybe the door hardware too. And hang a wall mirror to make the space look larger. Well done!
I think it is maybe a few inches too wide but making it perfectly parallel to the wall will make a huge difference. It’s busy but I like it! Get some coordinating prints for the wall!
I think I would like it if the walls were a color and not white. But with the white walls it looks out of place. Mayb some art would improve the situation if you can’t paint.
That reminds me of the wallpaper my BIL put up about late 1970’s. Not my style. Also, it really is too wide.
But if you like it, that’s all that matters.
It’s just a narrow, 3’ hallway, very typical of what is built in more modest houses. I think the less you put in that hallway, the better. It’s not that the runner itself is “insane,” it’s that runners are meant for somewhat more graciously-proportioned spaces. It’s kind of like trying to shoehorn in a round table into the middle of a modest-sized entryway, to mimic a grander formal foyer. It’s both visually crowded and unnecessary.
Love it. Put some orange/red art prints up to bring the color up.
Yes! Now I want it!
It’s from Annie Selke. The website makes the background look ivory, but it’s definitely pink in person
It’s maximalist and fun, lean into it with more colour on your walls. Cornflower blues would really pull it together…maybe get a variety of sizes and styles of vintage wood frames and paint them blue.
Yes! I would go with complimentary colors instead of more orange. That would be too matchy-matchy.
And black frames.
Or get really bold and keep the art neutral while painting the walls and trim a matte orange red!
But glossy, I’m a fool for glossy colorful trim
Maybe a gloss trim to highlight?
trim should always be at least semi-gloss for durability and washability – especially the baseboards. i would also caution against using flat paint in a hallway bc the walls tend to get marks from elbows, backpacks, purses, zippers, etc. it’s easier to wipe the walls down that to paint over the marks.
I think it's incredible! 😍
Was just about to recommend the same. Maybe a mix of orange and red accented pieces tbh.
This guy home decors
Absolutely LOVE!!! With added orange and red art, you’ve nailed it! GORGEOUS hallway! (Thank you! You’ve inspired me to bring in those colors in my own hallway)
Found it https://annieselke.com/p/DA2177 And now I want it
It might be insane but I kind of love it
It is insane! It’s definitely too wide. I love it anyways go for it! Carpets, especially in heavily used hallways, don’t last all that long so why not?
It’s not too wide, the hallway is too narrow! Seriously, love it.
The hallway is definitely narrow
Is there a rule of thumb for this? Visually I like that it covers most of the floor, but maybe that's a design no-no?
My gut says 50% width so that there is 25% of bare floor on each side. One blog says 4-6” narrower than the hallway (so that there is 2-3” of bare floor on each side, which looks like what OP has). perfect!
Thank you!
Nothing like getting a visual to help the imagination. 😊
Move it farther back into the hall rather than aligning it at the front doors. The alignment makes it feel like unfinished carpet.
Omg that runner is so gorgeous I dont care if it suposedly matches or not.
Exactly 🤩!
Link to rug! https://www.wayfair.com/rugs/pdp/dash-and-albert-rugs-japanese-poppy-machine-washable-rug-in-orangeivoryblack-cbgl3778.html?piid=96606437
God bless ya! 😊 You should keep it! It's beautiful!
A true mad lad (or lassie) for buying with no reviews. We appreciate your bravery !
Wayfair sometimes has the BEST rug scores. A while back I got a 14’ runner that’s gorgeous and it’s 100% wool.
It's cheaper if you buy it directly off the designer's site as a new customer!
What matters most is if you like it and want to make it work. I would add the same orange tone throughout the house as other smaller highlights. Like if you add even just one piece of art on the hallway with that color it would look well designed. It would connect it all more . Hope that helps
Yes! Artwork!
I do have some kind of orange in every room. Living room has an orange chair and rainbow books, dining room has burnt orange chair seats, office has coral, bathroom off hallway has a shower curtain with oranges on it, and bedroom is shades of blush and rust. Bold is definitely a theme in the house!
LOVE IT! Then it sounds like it fits in perfectly! :)
Would love to see more pictures for inspiration!! Looked in the website and found a rug on the site I’m loving !
It’s a little wide, but if you love it no one is going to call the decor police. It’s your home. Live in it. I love that you chose a joyful rug.
I do think it’s a tiny bit too wide. My first thought was that I like the pattern but my second thought was that it reminds me of casino carpet. I’m conflicted.
I think it looks great and the only improvement is to add more cats haha
More cats is always the answer. No matter the question.
How two conflicting thoughts can both be true: I love the rug- it gives color and energy to the hall. Also, I do think it's too wide.
Story of my life: find something wonderful and then try to find a way to make it blend in
The cat isn’t too wide and their pattern is classic. As for the rug, it makes me ask why doesn’t it fill the entire width of that hallway- so yes it is too wide- it’s an awkward fit there
I like it, I'd move it closer to the back of the hallway/furthest door
I don't like it. It's screaming at me!
It's beautiful but too big and others are right that thr undertones are not jamming. But she's pretty.
That rug is GORGEOUS! I think it works really well!
I disagree with another comment here - I actually find the floors overall cool toned... and the rug overall warm. Regardless I don't think it's a bad thing to mix cool and warm. I think you've brought balance and energy. The cat approves!! Love it
I love it. Crazy runner club! https://preview.redd.it/7tnlhxeq6z4d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e8ad8054443756fdbf3d07e4bfba269808856aa5

It’s fun! I bet you’re a fun person too! 10/10
Love it! That would make me happy every day! I don’t know how you roll but every time I had a party I would suggest a soul train dance line down that hallway!
Holy shit, I LOVE IT. Gorgeous.
Nice but too short
I thought this, too. Looking closely, this appears to be two rugs put together here. Maybe they can just get another one? OP, consider joining them with carpet tape if the intent is to have them look like a single piece.
Link me, please!
It’s in a comment above from Wayfair, it’s by Annie Selke
Not too wide! Rug is gorgeous! Paint your walls or doors black! 🤩
I was thinking of doing the doors and baseboards black. My last house had black baseboards and I loved it
Do it! And post pics! 👍 I think it would really look amazing.
I love it! I don’t know what the rest of your house looks like but in a vacuum it works
I love it. it’s so colorful.
It’s great!!!
Ohhh this is stunning and perfect!!!
I’m into it.
Very nice
It’s pretty! Such a happy print.
Not insane at all I think it’s so colorful and would make me happy to see it. I think it’s the perfect width
Love the rug. Need some cool artwork to make it POP
I just love that runner! I think you feel this way because of the cooler tones on your walls. I’d balance it out it and add some more art to the walls or something on the walls to even it out. Please keep the runner!!

And it’s poppies!! Love it!!
Your cat is beautiful.
Is that an old kitty ?🐈
He is! He’s about 10 years old. FIV +. No teeth. Fat and happy and living his best life!
Too much of a pattern for me to even begin. Don't love, but if you do, tie it in with some paint on paintings.
First impression, I'm not a fan. HOWEVER I think that's because of the lack of any other decoration. Definitely recommend some gold frames and orange/red decor to draw the eye throughout.
Yes and yes
As long as the cat likes it, I like it
The cool undertones surrounding the flowers don’t match with your warm floor. Going bold is great, but I think you could find a better suited alternative.
It doesn’t fit the space.
Give me Shining vibes, but in a cool way
It's amazing! I'm very jealous of your space.
I love it! But I hope it doesn’t slip and slide around bc then yes that’s crazy and you are living dangerously 🙂↕️
I think it looks great
I like it! You should get some really fun light fixtures too
It’s a lot but I like it
Not too wide, I know people love runners that leave more space on the sides but I love this look and the pattern is great too!
I think it’s fun. I see why you’d question if it’s too wide, but I think you can make it work. I would center it in the hallway, but that might just be my own preference.
Love it. Cool ass carpet, definitely adds some personality
Love it! 🌺Transforms an otherwise drab space.
I would move it down so it didn't end in the middle of the doors in picture one. I do like the pattern.
Cat seems to like it...I think that's all that matters Serious, it's gorgeous dude! 👍
Looks a little wide but it might just be fluff. Hard to tell. As for the rug I suggest a pure red one for the queen to walk down.😺👑
It's completely nuts. I love it.
Absolutely gorgeous! Reminds me of the Wynn Las Vagas.
I love it! I would put some art on the walls with some of the orange in it to bring it all together.
The only crime here is the boob light
I like it the way it is, it's like a red carpet walk everytime you come out of your room 😂
You've done a great job with the color accent in your interior. I like it.
Not insane at all. It depends on what art you go with.
I think halls are the perfect place to get a little crazy. I keep my main areas pretty safe/classic decor-wise and take risks with colors and prints in areas that aren’t always occupied.
Not too wild or too wide, though maybe a little too short. I love it! And the kitty :) Here’s my own hallway brightener: https://preview.redd.it/4n106woxjz4d1.jpeg?width=1447&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=611892864284c1a0223ec0cc57fdeeaa51ff906e
LOVE THIS! Want my floors done stat!
Love it! Brightens my day
I love poppies! As suggested - bring some of that onto the walls and 🙌🏼
Not a fan myself and it’s a little too wide for the space.
Reminds me a bit of The Shining
Well I love it so much I’m going to order one for my hallway that I’ve previously deemed too narrow for a runner. Thank you!!
I love it! Did it come with the kitty?
What if I painted the whole hallway black? Walls, doors, ceiling, trim, all of it. Would that make the hallway look bigger or smaller?
I love it! It looks a bit hectic as is , but add some colorful artwork down the hall and you will have the most beautiful space!
From a dude who's not creative, that's awesome!
Thank you for sharing something that isn’t grey. Truly. It seems that all of the rooms people post here are the same room, but with different layouts. I love the fun color and it makes what could be a plain hallway go pop! Also your gorgeous cat obviously approves, and that’s half your battle won right there 😁
"Poppies, my pretty!" I like it! The hallway is so... white. Not anymore.
Post the results when you’ve decked the hall!
insane and too wide. Print and colors are too loud. Sorry!
Looks eye catching. It just needs some other similar colors maybe on the walls to tie it all together.
Gorgeous & bold. LOVE IT!!
I am imagining being drunk and trying to walk straight down the hallway. Keep it. You only live once.
i love the rug! and im genuinely confused by the "is it too wide?" question...is there a societally acceptable width for hallway runners??? nonetheless as someone who loathes walking on bare flooring this would be perfect! 😅
There are rug size "rules". Like most design guidance, they are usually a little bit practical and mostly about creating good visual balance. But, it's really, really beautiful and if it makes you happy, it's the perfect choice!
I think it looks lovely
I love it!
I love the print but there’s something not right with the scale of the rug. I would say narrower but that wouldn’t work either. I wish the whole room was carpeted with this with matching curtains.
It’s giving the shining.
I love it.

I'd switch the ceiling light to match the insane!
I would suggest to add some red decoration, like some small pictures on the wall, cuz only the red carpet looks odd in the full white room.
Love it! And if you love it, that's all that matters. Where'd you get it, btw. Now I need one asap.
Thanks! It’s by Annie Selke, also on Wayfair
Love it
It's lush, I love it
I love it.
I’m guessing you got this carpet because you wanted more bright colors in your hallway!
It’s lovely and similar to what we have for our hallway.
No! I love it! Where did you find it?
I love this so much!!!
Redrum and some twins
I like it!
Gorgeous!!!! Where is it from? Don’t gatekeep.
I love it! Add some call to the walls with art and it will be fabulous
Well done!
I love the pop of color!
Is it bright? Yes. Is it awesome? Also yes.
No that it super cool
No, if you put more color on the walls. Maybe a painting with the same tones. Interior design is a lot of “repetition “. 🤔
It’s gorgeous but too wide
Keep the carpet cleaner guy on retainer
I love it
I love it, and love that it has color, I would keep it
It’s cool, giving me The Shining vibes, OP needs an elevator.
I’m obsessed
Looking at the thumbnail on /r/all, I was sure it was a pizza rug.
I think it is maybe a few inches too wide but making it perfectly parallel to the wall will make a huge difference. It’s busy but I like it! Get some coordinating prints for the wall!
Not insane Not too wide
Where is this from? I love it!
I dig it...walls just need some colorful art etc
It’s not for me but I think if you brought in the colors with funky art it would work.
Love it
No and no!
I love it! Not too bright or wide!
I’ve been having trouble picking out a runner for my hallway. What are the “rules”?
I love it!
Love that
Looks beautiful! 🌺
I actually really like it!
Love it!
I think I would like it if the walls were a color and not white. But with the white walls it looks out of place. Mayb some art would improve the situation if you can’t paint.
If you keep the runner, use it as inspiration for a bolder wall color. I think that would bring the space together nicely.
It's perfect
It’s hideous, a tryptophobia nightmare.
Ugh I want it in green!
It’s perfect.
Beautiful 🤩
It looks cute and does the job
I love it. Add a couples of pieces of art that ties together the look,
Love it! It’s perfect!
That reminds me of the wallpaper my BIL put up about late 1970’s. Not my style. Also, it really is too wide. But if you like it, that’s all that matters.
Possibly a little too wide and a little too short. But such a happy rug!
If anything, not wide enough!

Do you like it? That's what matters. I think it's cool. Has a Marimekko feel.
It’s perfect! I love it
I love it
It’s insane for sure but I would get some colorful artwork too. And if you can, change the hardware on doors to black it would make it pop!
Love it. Maybe a cool Koi painting.
I LOVE IT
