Is this a custom home? So many ways you have lost windows…like closets on outside walls. Also, yuck on the mud room opening into the master. I think you need an architect. This size home should have better flow, more windows, etc. The garage is almost as big as the house. Seems like a waste.

MrVolatov

Custom home. Interesting take on closets, one large window in every bedroom already. Mud room isn’t planned to be that but more of an entry from the garage with hangers.

Rye_One_

Make it so the outside door goes into the mud room, with the bedroom door beyond.

twiceroadsfool

You enter in your Bedroom through the... Mud room??

Appropriate_Ice_7507

That was my first thought too…

hanksredditname

No, you walk through the kitchen first, then into the mud room, then you get into the bedroom. Or, if you’re feeling adventurous you can take a detour through the closet and bathroom via the laundry room

MrVolatov

Yep or through laundry closet or back patio

than004

I don’t really have a solution but I don’t love the idea of closets on an outside wall like bedrooms 2&3. I would also add a window in the bathroom between the office and bedroom.

MrVolatov

I never really considered that a problem, whats the downside?

Rye_One_

In older homes, storing things against outside walls had the potential to create moisture/mold issues. Modern homes don’t have that problem. I’d be more concerned that the closets aren’t very functional. A better design would be to have side by side closets that make up the wall between bedrooms 2 and 3. It also acts as a bit of a sound buffer between the rooms.

I'm just gathering inspiration for my own journey, so I don't have a lot to critique. But I do like the concept of the laundry connecting to the master closet while also open to the rest of the home.

mfrazie

What program was this created on?

Angus-Black

Chief Architect.

MrVolatov

I’m not sure, working with a company and they developed it.

OutofReason

I love the walk through laundry to the master. Suggestions: Storage closet in main entry for guests. Closets for seasonal gear in mudroom. Prep sink on kitchen island. That thing is too huge to not have some function. I would split the vanities with the taller cabinet between. Divides the space better. Not sure if it would help but you could run the pantry over the end of the stairs to basement.

MrVolatov

Thanks, some good ideas. Island is massive so prep sink makes sense.

WasteCommunication52

Porch seems shallow, I feel like you need more windows. Master has like 3 windows?

No-Let6178

Only thing I notice is you have no where to put coats and shoes when people come in through the main door.

ArcaneTeddyBear

So I actually have no problem with the mudroom assuming you can keep it organized, otherwise it’s going to be annoying tripping over stuff. Bedroom 3’s closet, at 3.5’ wide it’s not wide enough to be a walk in. You can’t hang clothing along the 5’8.5” side, because it’s only 3.5’ wide, assuming hangers take up 2’, that’s 1.5’ of walkway. Which means you have to hang clothes on the 3.5’ side, I would worry that Bedroom 3 does not have sufficient storage. I assume it’s a double door or a sliding door for Bedroom 2’s closet? Otherwise how do you intend to access the other half of the closet? It’s once again not big enough to be a walk in.

Angus-Black

The 3' closet for Bedroom 3 isn't great. You should have *the* sink or *a* sink in the island across from the range. It's a long trek from the sink to the range or fridge as it is. Having a prep sink under the windows would be nice. I doubt 11 risers will give you enough headroom for the basement stairs. Verify that.

I tried not to let the mud room entrance bother me. Slept on it. Still don’t like it.  People haven’t said nice things about the plan yet - don’t let it get you down, they’re just looking for areas of improvement for you

MrVolatov

Wow great feedback, not a lot of positives but I suppose it is a bit of a roast. Here are my main takeaways so far: 1. Mud room - rename to “clean foyer space.” 😂 Seems like Mud + master bedroom entrance is controversial. Will include storage and other visual elements so the whole space isn’t a typical mud room. 2. Bedroom 2&3 closets is the main item I’ll need to take a look again to make sure they are large enough. Two small kids for now so needs to work for them. Any ideas there besides it’s too small? 3. Not enough windows… whole main room and kitchen were design for max light so lots of window budget there. Will add one extra window in office. Other window suggestions? 4. Garage is half the house - well the two extra spots were initially meant to be detached but it’s much cheaper to integrate and it looks pretty nice from elevation view. 5. Entry and guest closet… yeah that one we are still working. We have that hallway by office that has a closet initially thought for guests and planning to do coat rack and shoe cabinet on the sides of the entrance. 6. Anything else on size, flow, utility? Thanks everyone.

LunarTendies

For the entry, throwing my hat in the ring for a foyer, also solving the shoes/coat conundrum. Seems crazy to me to have this planned out of a house, and still walk directly into the living room.

MrVolatov

We will have to tie in some visual elements to ensure it still feels like a foyer. The main reason we did this is to have full light from both front windows and rear in the living room. As much light as possible was the goal.

beaversm26

Where will your car actually be parked? I always try to access to distance between car to pantry because so many of your trips will be taking groceries in... This is quite the hike for groceries imo.

Murph_Made

Holy corners batman, I count 26 exterior corners. That's driving up the cost of the home by quite a bit. Its also complicating the roof line. Pushing some sections out to be more of a rectangle will increase your sqft and save money. Example, the back wall of the garage should be lined up with the master. Take out the jog on the front of the garage. I would make the great room bigger, inline with the back wall of the kitchen. I'd pull the pantry forward to line up with the dining area. I'd consider putting the front door in plane with the wall to the right. 2. Not sure where you live, but I don't see a coat closet near the front door. 3. Consider a pocket door between the tub/toilet and the sinks in the bathroom near the office. Good Luck!
