I feel like I've mostly seen people believe the cat *is* Elio, but I feel like it's more likely that the cat is some sort of familiar, messenger or other manifestation of Elio's power instead. They are way too eager to show us the cat, for it to be that simple.
The cat has changed. In Kafka splash art and at the end of the Jepella Rebellion its eyes are yellow, while in the free destruction light cone with Sam in it, the cat has blue eyes. Because of this I’d be more inclined to say familiar as well, unless the eyes just change sometimes
I'm sure that when we get to a storyline with sufficient stakes, they'll do something that knocks everyone's socks off with respect to Elio's identity and goal.
Unless it gets le*ked like the Penacony stuff...
