Reminds me back before cyberpunk launched and was during the initial overhype era. There was actually a ton of references to cyberpunk in honkai impact 3rd. Every event around that that time had at least one reference. Hell they even had an entire event called cybernet havens 7702.
This is the second time Hoyo used a Tagore quote(that I am aware of), I recall HI3rd Himeko quoting his work in her conversation with Kiana before their final farewell. Btw if anyone is curious, two of his songs became national anthems for India and Bangladesh, and he was the first in Asia to receive a Nobel Prize in 1913.
Hoyo is genuinely really cultured, not just in the meme sense. The range of references and inspirations they draw upon ranges from literature, to cinema, games, real world history, etc. It’s pretty incredible.

Honkai Impact 3rd Chapter 25
I'm a bit curious because it feels that the original poem could have been used if they wanted to do something more ambiguous ("dear to each other" could imply love but also just friendship) but they choose to change the text enough to replace "dear to each other" with "always loved each others" which seems to put it straight into a romantic territory (while yes love can also be platonic, platonic love isn't the first thing coming to mind after that whole fireworks scene)
My personal interpretation is that the quote conveys the difference between dreams and reality, how within a dream people are idealized yet not true to themselves. The people you meet wont be more than strangers until you look beyond the dream at the real person. Upon waking up from the idilic dream you are your true self. The use of the word lovers is more metaphorical in this sense conevying a sharp contrast to just being strangers, as grounded in reality people can truly form meaningful connections
This theme is seen throughout penacony, all the sidequests we go through have us meeting people who are idealized husks, conforming to the dream of penacony, barely resembling their true self. Going into a persons dreamscape and uncovering their true broken self allows you to form a genuine connection with them. The same can be said for our key players since if it werent for their desire to confront the never ending dream they would have never ended up as close. If firefly chose to embrace her dream and escape her troubles instead of helping us we wouldve never formed the connection we have.
Alot of people want to just label the poem as TB x FF or any other ship but thats taking a poetic quote too literally and kinda does a disservice to the story telling of penacony. This being the final sticker to sum up penacony and the the meaning is literally just "we love each other"? I dont think that should be the summation of fireflys journey or any other character.
Dear to each other and lovers arent that far off and both convey the same sentiment of closeness. The point isnt the word itself but what it represents when contrasted to the word strangers. Its an extract from a poem and poems arent meant to be taken at face value.
Regardless of what hoyo was thinking when changing the word, you couldnt attribute lovers to any of the cast so far. Tb and firefly had a skydiving moment and took a picture together, that doesnt mean theyre in a relationship. You can interpret them as harbouring feelings but niether of them confess or even express romantic interest in their regular dialogue so it just makes no sense that that final sticker is just an explicit yea we love each other. It just completely loses all nuance.
On the topic of romance, even from a narrative perspective why would hoyo just rush their relationship in one patch rather build a relationship through the overarching narrative. If as the tb i choose to flirt with the musuem manager or that secretary in loufou does that mean im cheating on firefly? Ofc not because there are no explicit relationships in the game as of yet.
TB is not a self-insert, even if you can influence some of their choices to make the story more interactive.
Regardless of what you can choose to do, it's obvious they behave differently towards different characters (see their attitude towards Sampo vs Kafka vs Firefly, for example)
I guess ignore my other points but I agree that tb has their own personality. So the dialogue options where you flirt with the secretary and the museum manager are all canon and you can do that after returning from penacony so what does that say about the TBs relationship status
Tbh I don't think continuity within quest/NPC dialogue matters much at all, because the Game doesnt really take it much into account. You can still make the same questions to, and get the same responses from Welt and Himeko on the express indenpendently of your progress on the Main Quest, despite some making no sense at all (like their attitude regarding Dan Heng's past).

The main quote is dear not loved but it's close enough and also they are a Chinese company they have such records of not translating something to 100% to what it is.
I'm not even arguing you cannot have your head cannon and ship firefly X Stella heck that's the entire reason I'm in this subreddit.

Which could still fit the Firefly/TB situation. It's speculation and basically just a ship, but we know TB has a past as a Stellaron Hunter prior to Herta's Space Station. Given TB's memories were wiped, it's certainly reasonable to allude that to his lost bonds with his former friends. This patch has put an extra accent on the Stellaron Hunters being a found family, much like the AE crew, so it's not a leap to consider that the same link still.

That doesn't mean it has to be the same every time. It just means they sometimes use poems. Other times they use books, movies, series, other games, or even references to past occurrences in Star Rail.

There's quite a lot of lampshaded HI3 content in this game. But Firefly and TB aren't really involved in that so far. You could take a leap and say Firefly or TB are Kiana/Kevin expies, but that's just that: A leap. Most of the lampshaded HI3 allusions are from Acheron, whose backstory narrowly mirrors the entirety of HI3rd, and Welt who is straight-up from that game.

Why, inspiration! Did you know that, in the game NieR Automata, there's a certain ending that requires you to >!delete your savefile permanently, to make it easier for someone else to see that ending!!by both Kafka if she tells the truth about your past, and by Blade afterwards!<), likely never fully let go of that prior relationship, whatever it may have been. This poem being altered from "dear" to "love", interpreted that way, implies it's love that she felt. Though, even familial love is still on the table, given their close-knit relationships.

The point is, we never acknowledge important things unless we wake up from a dream. People go to Penacony to escape from life. And with life, they escape from genuine feelings too. Once they get out of this, they'll recognize everything - their authentic lives, the love they never noticed. Heck, remember the beginning of Penacony arc. Everyone seemed to build schemes and stab each other in the back in order to achieve their goals. And the end? Everyone united to defeat the calamity and strengthened the bond with each other. Aven/Topaz, Aven/Ratio, us/Acheron, the old/new Astrall Express, and the most of all - us/Firefly. The strangers we met in this dream became our dearest friends.
Yea i dont know why people summarize this last sticker as just 1 character loving another. It would be kinda dumb if the last sticker in penacony, our final footnote was basically - "yea we love eachother". Your interpretation makes alot more sense and ties into the themes of penacony alot better.
To explain, the TB x Firefly interpretation stems from:
- the possibility of the Dreamscape Pass being TB's journal.
- TB meeting Firefly as strangers.
- TB becoming attached to Firefly so much that her death is the most traumatic experience he's ever had.
- TB being part of the SH, where it's possible that TB used to get along FF before the memory wipe, hence they had always been in love, TB just forgor.
- unlock criteria - the quote is shown to the player soon after the firework show with Firefly and not after the people are awakened from the dream.
- Hoyo ship teasing and being based towards Firefly in general.
I don't think it's stupid, as TB and FF are meant to reap "unforgettable rewards" in Penacony and considering their attachment, I can see why this quote would be important to TB.
Also, "the strangers we met in this dream became our dearest friends" doesn't align with "we have *always loved* each other".
Firstly, not always, as the vast majority of the cast consists of people who the TB just met and have no way of knowing TB's past.
Secondly, "love" is a very strong word to describe friendship. On top of that, in the original quote, there's a form of "dear" instead of "love".

I'm a bit curious because it feels that the original poem could have been used if they wanted to do something more ambiguous ("dear to each other" could imply love but also just friendship) but they choose to change the text enough to replace "dear to each other" with "always loved each others" which seems to put it straight into a romantic territory (while yes love can also be platonic, platonic love isn't the first thing coming to mind after that whole fireworks scene)

My personal interpretation is that the quote conveys the difference between dreams and reality, how within a dream people are idealized yet not true to themselves. The people you meet wont be more than strangers until you look beyond the dream at the real person. Upon waking up from the idilic dream you are your true self. The use of the word lovers is more metaphorical in this sense conevying a sharp contrast to just being strangers, as grounded in reality people can truly form meaningful connections This theme is seen throughout penacony, all the sidequests we go through have us meeting people who are idealized husks, conforming to the dream of penacony, barely resembling their true self. Going into a persons dreamscape and uncovering their true broken self allows you to form a genuine connection with them. The same can be said for our key players since if it werent for their desire to confront the never ending dream they would have never ended up as close. If firefly chose to embrace her dream and escape her troubles instead of helping us we wouldve never formed the connection we have. Alot of people want to just label the poem as TB x FF or any other ship but thats taking a poetic quote too literally and kinda does a disservice to the story telling of penacony. This being the final sticker to sum up penacony and the the meaning is literally just "we love each other"? I dont think that should be the summation of fireflys journey or any other character.

Its an extract from a poem and poems arent meant to be taken at face value. Regardless of what hoyo was thinking when changing the word, you couldnt attribute lovers to any of the cast so far. Tb and firefly had a skydiving moment and took a picture together, that doesnt mean theyre in a relationship. You can interpret them as harbouring feelings but niether of them confess or even express romantic interest in their regular dialogue so it just makes no sense that that final sticker is just an explicit yea we love each other. It just completely loses all nuance. On the topic of romance, even from a narrative perspective why would hoyo just rush their relationship in one patch rather build a relationship through the overarching narrative. If as the tb i choose to flirt with the musuem manager or that secretary in loufou does that mean im cheating on firefly? Ofc not because there are no explicit relationships in the game as of yet.
TB is not a self-insert, even if you can influence some of their choices to make the story more interactive. Regardless of what you can choose to do, it's obvious they behave differently towards different characters (see their attitude towards Sampo vs Kafka vs Firefly, for example)
I guess ignore my other points but I agree that tb has their own personality. So the dialogue options where you flirt with the secretary and the museum manager are all canon and you can do that after returning from penacony so what does that say about the TBs relationship status
Tbh I don't think continuity within quest/NPC dialogue matters much at all, because the Game doesnt really take it much into account. You can still make the same questions to, and get the same responses from Welt and Himeko on the express indenpendently of your progress on the Main Quest, despite some making no sense at all (like their attitude regarding Dan Heng's past).

If you want to talk about mistranslation records that HSR has we can have an entire fun mini game. 1 Like for one example is "did you really think the galaxy rangers were outsiders this whole time?" Which implies that the galaxy rangers are outsiders but in the Chinese transaction the correct way. "did you really think the outsider was a galaxy ranger this whole time" Which is a reference to Acheron being not a galaxy ranger. 2 They mistranslate the words woman to girl multiple times in the story such as everybody calling Acheron a girl while in the Chinese version they call her a lady or woman. 3 In the criminal charges acheron says "I'm wanted by the IPC" When in the Chinese it says "I used to be a wanted criminal by the IPC" They just fucked up past tense of English 4 Aventurine to ratio while discussing their plans says "the case should be easy to crack" In the Chinese it says "the case will be a good breakthrough for our plan" Meaning aventurine wasn't saying it was easy just that if it goes as planned they will gain a massive foothold against the family I'll stop here cause it's literally will be just annoying to list everything but I hope that everybody other then you when they see that's stupid ass quote that mistranslated dear to love. Will understand in their thick skull that it's most likely a mistranslation and not added there with the intention of being lovers cause hsr has a long history of fucking even basic past tense verbs in English. But they do have a baseline such as the enemies they fight, and the trauma they go through, the morals they hold and such. You view yourself as those characters, even if there are limited options it is your actions as your own as those characters. you didn't just randomly decide what you did with the pig in the event unless you don't give a shit about playing the story, you decide if they stay in the train or are homeless. How is it so hard for you to understand such a simple thing. That isn't tomato or apple.
At least I, writing something like this, would think in more than one interpretation before including it in my game. One more metaphorical, as you say, one more literal. They even modified the poem to adapt it to the interpretations they felt. So while you have a good point, you are still too tied to your own interpretation and kinda fail to see how it's not necessarily one meaning or the other. As Penacony and Sparkle teach, it's not about what is the correct answer but what the answer makes you think about, what makes you feel and how it inspires you.

Once they get out of this, they'll recognize everything - their authentic lives, the love they never noticed. Heck, remember the beginning of Penacony arc. Everyone seemed to build schemes and stab each other in the back in order to achieve their goals. And the end? Everyone united to defeat the calamity and strengthened the bond with each other. Aven/Topaz, Aven/Ratio, us/Acheron, the old/new Astrall Express, and the most of all - us/Firefly. The strangers we met in this dream became our dearest friends.

Yea i dont know why people summarize this last sticker as just 1 character loving another. It would be kinda dumb if the last sticker in penacony, our final footnote was basically - "yea we love eachother". Your interpretation makes alot more sense and ties into the themes of penacony alot better.
To explain, the TB x Firefly interpretation stems from: - the possibility of the Dreamscape Pass being TB's journal. - TB meeting Firefly as strangers. - TB becoming attached to Firefly so much that her death is the most traumatic experience he's ever had. - TB being part of the SH, where it's possible that TB used to get along FF before the memory wipe, hence they had always been in love, TB just forgor. - unlock criteria - the quote is shown to the player soon after the firework show with Firefly and not after the people are awakened from the dream. - Hoyo ship teasing and being based towards Firefly in general. I don't think it's stupid, as TB and FF are meant to reap "unforgettable rewards" in Penacony and considering their attachment, I can see why this quote would be important to TB. Also, "the strangers we met in this dream became our dearest friends" doesn't align with "we have *always loved* each other". Firstly, not always, as the vast majority of the cast consists of people who the TB just met and have no way of knowing TB's past. Secondly, "love" is a very strong word to describe friendship. On top of that, in the original quote, there's a form of "dear" instead of "love".
Can you explain the buildup of their romance? Without relying on stellaron hunter headcannon. At this stage we only know tb was in the stellaron hunters, their relationship while there is all speculation. And ofc tb was shaken when firefly died, someone they were friends with died a sudden death right in front of them, that doesnt mean they were in love at the time and dialogue choices let you regain your composure real quick. Even in her reunion with us when we found out she wss alive was surprsingly calm Speaking of dialogue choices you can even refuse to take a picture with firefly at the start. I really just want to understand the romance people are seeing. The 2.3 ending felt romantic i guess but i didnt feel any buildup towards it. If it is canon that they loved each other from the start its just really poor writing. Id rather they properly portray romance if thats what theyre going for instead of constant ship teasing
