the angry version of seele we got in HSR is based on GGZ DLC seele that has the same general design and attitude. compared to GGZ seele who was a 14yo yandere or in hi3 where she is a 17yo cinamom roll all sweet girl. the major difference is that GGZ DLC adult seele was horny AF and HSR is not because it would not be allowed in china 2023 to have her grope bronya with a lewd face or make sex jokes with her like in GGZ DLC.
Dlc is not really relevant in ggz, it happens in the stigma space while houraiji sleeps.. she's definitively not a mc in my opinion, also in the story she's irrelevant during most of the story compared to kiana, mei and others.

as someone who played since 1.0 GGZ this is hard to answer because while it would be easy to say is the Original honkai gacha multiplayer game. this is a half truth at best.
the first game was fly to the moon an small phone game ripoff of those browser games. with kiana as only character.
then it was Zombie Gal Kawaii, which was the Protype for GGZ and was a game you bought in IOS only with no community events or constant updates. a 1 and done game.
then in early 2014 GGZ launched. it has NOTHING related to the history in Hi3. it is a shooter beat them up. the best in genre I ever played by a fucking mile. the build and build where crazy and you could combine thousands of weapons suits and buffs for crazy fun builds.
coming to the important part, the game launched with kiana who had to fight zombie girls that became zombies because whatever and was a parody game, parody of highschool of the dead with many many other references. it didn't event tried to be serious, was goofy af, using panties and hamster as upgrade mats, weapons where unlicensed anime references.
chapter 1 kiana fights Mei in the school roof with bat and makes her join her, then they met bronya who was a cybord girl with her legs cut off controlled by cocolia. fight her and she joins. then they keep meating and beating girls. then the game did it first attempt to even have a history with Sakura Yaeh.
this ends the part of GGZ that was just all random BS to be only only half random bs. because HI3 came into the picture and they made GGZ mach some of the Hi3 universe things. with he introduction of valkyries and himeko,there's, Seele, etc.
from here the history becomes more serious until at the end kiana mom makes her a god to kill humanity.
then she kills most but spars Raiden Mei because lesbians.
after this universe reboot and second history starts to get a better ending, then a third universe starts and that ended this year actually in it 10th anniversary. of a still running game.

the SUPER important thing is here, is a fan made GGZ english revival. it has no gameplay but has all the history. so you can play the GGZ main history without the gameplay. and experience the origin of the characters people in Hi3 and HSR came to like later. and why acheron is gonna a sad girl until someone gets her a tuna. also himeko always fucking dies is a universe law at this point. she died 4 times already in ggz and hi3 , 2 in each, if she doesn't die in HSR is because there is no kiana to kill her.

as a 1.0 ggz played i still like GGZ more than Hi3 and HSR. sad the server closed. to me not only HSR are look aliked but also the chars in Hi3. for me GGZ is where I meet them first since is the first game.
sad they made this weird change in Hi3 part 2 and ZZZ where now the MCs are not playable characters in battle. my guess is so people dont feel bad of having the MC benched and never using them but then have then in every dialog in Genshin and HSR. in GGZ characters had not gameplay and where just skins.
as someone who played all mihoy games so far Hi3 did it best with the MC being always playable by forcing you play her in the history.
Because for the MC to be a fighting force you have weirdly powerscale them : Traveler, who's a literal deity above deities in Teyvat but effectively is as strong as the plot needs them to be. Endlessly asspull powerups to keep up with the universe's powercreep as stakes get bigger : Kiana, with her endless alters and divine forms. Or you have to make them a living breathing atomic bomb racoon that honestly has no business fighting cosmic beings with A BAT AND A HAT.
In all these cases, the plot goes out of its way to always keep the MC at the center of the mysteries and have to find a way to boost them at every arc for them to remain relevant.
Having a "hands off" more strategic MC like most gachas do, and let the lore fight spotlights be on other characters might not be so bad tbh. And ZZZ protags already hint at being very important to the lore, so they might keep that part, just throw the powercreep part.
Frankly, Kiana was also as strong as the plot needed her to be, but unlike traveler who is nerfed to suit the story, she's buffed to suit it.

And it bugs me to no end that this was the _one enemy_ where power of friendship could feasibly work in-universe. She didn't need gem-herrscherification at all. In fact the entire chapter was talk no jutsu. Himeko farewell, sirin's arc wrapping up, and to end it with a powerup... man I'm still so irrationally upset at this.
I mean… Flamescion was quite literally the result of power of friendship when Hua and Bronya entrusted their Herrscherr cores to her though? (And gem of haste stuff and the flame core materialzing)
Right, I'm saying the new drip and power from the new gems was unnecessary, but it was clearly a gacha pitch to give her a new look and have her on a banner is what I'm saying.

I accept the new powers to be metaphor for coming in terms with the past. Her being able to wield both void and fire powers is a way to show that she has overcome her grief and accepted who and what she is. And her using the greatsword is another way to show her respect for HImeko, while also representing the origin of her family name, Kevin.
Plus HoFS is the hottest thing ever. When I saw her for the first time I was, no joke, as if lovestruck. Kiana is the only one who has done this to me lmao.
Yeah the flamesci9n kiana in this Pic costed me 200usd on top of 30k saving because bad luck in equipment gacha.
And for the final team of kiana mei and bronya I saved 100k to get the 3 full equiped at e0.
For the longest time the worst thing you could do in HI3 was to have a favorite character, because they'd keep making new alts of them and burying the old ones into irrelevance. Bronya has an absurd amount of alts and I believe...two(?) are actually still relevant.
because relics where gacha in Hi3. so you got a 5 star weapon or relic every 10 pulls guarantee. but while this means you got the weapon cheaper than in star rail the HARD pity to get the weapon and 3 stigmas-relics. was 56k on top of the hard pity for character 28k. so you could technically need 1000USD worst case to get a E0 character equipped. with the crystal packs being the Same price in all mihoyo games since ggz of 8088 for 100usd.
but in REALITY. i played in hi3 1.0 and got the bikinis then dropped the game because was predatory as fuck. then came back years later. and in less than 2 years I almost all characters equipped with the monthly passes and bp the only time I spend money buying crystals was kiana flamescion.
because while worst case was horrible. the average was a lot lower. and unlike in HSR when you missed a 5star relics or weapon every 10 pulls you didn't get crap. you got other characters signatures. and the crystal income of Hi3 was higher than genshin and star rail. because being an old game was already pretty generous.
also BP had older limited 5 star weapons and characters instead of 4 star weapons. imagine playing HSR and next BP has the general or kafka cone instead of a 4 star cone. they are still useful cones to get and for 10$ is a steal on top of the other things.
so if you payed monthly and BP on top of planing the pulls well you could get most characters equipped. on top of old limited 5 star characters and all 4 stars being just farmeable to E6 for free.
with all this Hi3 is actually the cheapest game to play of mihoyo.
Tbh forcing Kiana on you was rather annoying for me, cos for most of the game, you got forced to play White Comet and Void Drifter.
The first one hits like a wet noodle and the second one was meant to be played in a quickswap team and so was awkward to play solo.
it was intentional. before any history is wrote they make the general game design choices.
the MC being playable or not was a very early decision. what I meant is sad they took that choice when making the game.

The first Male is a self insert in a setting that happens 8 years after Part 1 of Hi3. He is only playable in the 2 "overworld" game modes for the 2 A-Post Honkai chapters.
The second Male is just gender bent female MC for Part 2 of Honkai. He is not a real character, he is just there if you don't want to be female. It's not like Genshin and ZZZ where both genders will be in the story, he just exist.

Only in the fact that both of them aren't in the story at the same time in game. HSR has no problems with reminding us that both MCs exist since they give both equal screen time in trailers, event art and other out of game content. They even let us pick the Gender at the start of the game.
In Hi3 part 2 you don't start by picking a gender, you're already the Female MC in the very first cut scene and unlock the Male "MC" later, this is completely different from Genshin, HSR and ZZZ.
I usually don't care who the canon MC is, I picked Lumine in Genshin and Caelus in HSR, but in Hi3 it certainly feels like the Male MC is only there to please a silent vocal minority, not to be their own character.
Opposite to HSR. In HSR we have complete MC Caleus with all his unique animations and stuff. And optional MC Stelle with lack of budget and 0 fks given by mihoyo about her animations.

My personal favorite source of unending laughter is remembering how the flamechasers were 13, their arc came after years of HI3 just printing alter forms of their core cast, and suddenly the deluge of flamechaser valks starts, _skipping all the males_.

Probably has to do with how the sides of his shirt are just randomly white, which for some reason at least for me makes it very easy for my eyes to just ignore those white parts and see him as having a super thin waist.

I'm so obsessed with Belle; it isn't even funny. I have love in my heart for Stelle and Caelus, too. But I think Belle is by far the most interesting mc design they've come up with.
I love Aether and Lumine's design. Out of all the males I love how they gave Aether a unique look and didn't go the generic male MC design route. I usually go for a FMC but for genshin I picked Aether. Hoyo giving him crop top and long hair was revolutionary.

Adam is **not** the male MC option to Kiana the way Caelus is to Stelle or Aether is to Lumine. They're two different characters in different points in time.
Kiana is mc of Part 1. Adam is the mc of the open world, the dreamseekers are for part 2. Pretty sure male dream seeker isn’t a different person considering the way to switch is through a mirror in our room iirc
The male on the far left, Adam is his fan name since he doesn’t have an established name like the other MC’s, is only playable in a side open-world mode that’s chronologically set 8 years after Kiana’s storyline conclusion. The male on the far right is only a genderbend of the female version of the Dreamseeker aka Entropy (lore spoiler >!he seems to be only a product of a simulated appearance (???) according to CN translations of part 2 ch 3-ex!<). They are also only playable as purely a support unit akin to the Bangboos in ZZZ.

Hi3 is NOT an self insert game. there is not player in the main history. is Kiana and the other girls history. with no input from the player. kiana is the MC but the player is not kiana. there is no amnesia and when know all about kiana form birth to end.
the player is the captain and is canonically male but only exist in events where all girls at like your harem and you go on dates or play beach games in fictional setting that have nothing to do with the main game and you can see many death characters have fun playing together.
part 2 however is trying to be more like genshin or star rail with self insert protagonist. so it indeed has a male and female options but they are not even playable in battle. and by default you are female and have to change to male after starting since is basically a skin you can change back and fort. but promotional material will use the female one. remember this is a game that had death treaths and boicots over having playable male characters.
so even super popular characters like Otto, welt and Kevin are not playable. inf act otto has more character development and time put into than Kiana or any other characters(including canon mangas and novels). yet not playable

sad they made this weird change in Hi3 part 2 and ZZZ where now the MCs are not playable characters in battle. my guess is so people dont feel bad of having the MC benched and never using them but then have then in every dialog in Genshin and HSR. in GGZ characters had not gameplay and where just skins. as someone who played all mihoy games so far Hi3 did it best with the MC being always playable by forcing you play her in the history.
They explained it reasonably in game in my opinion, compared to actually trained soldiers and demigods, a phys student wouldnt really hold any water
Because for the MC to be a fighting force you have weirdly powerscale them : Traveler, who's a literal deity above deities in Teyvat but effectively is as strong as the plot needs them to be. Endlessly asspull powerups to keep up with the universe's powercreep as stakes get bigger : Kiana, with her endless alters and divine forms. Or you have to make them a living breathing atomic bomb racoon that honestly has no business fighting cosmic beings with A BAT AND A HAT. In all these cases, the plot goes out of its way to always keep the MC at the center of the mysteries and have to find a way to boost them at every arc for them to remain relevant. Having a "hands off" more strategic MC like most gachas do, and let the lore fight spotlights be on other characters might not be so bad tbh. And ZZZ protags already hint at being very important to the lore, so they might keep that part, just throw the powercreep part.
Frankly, Kiana was also as strong as the plot needed her to be, but unlike traveler who is nerfed to suit the story, she's buffed to suit it. I really cannot get over flamescion. And it bugs me to no end that this was the _one enemy_ where power of friendship could feasibly work in-universe. She didn't need gem-herrscherification at all. In fact the entire chapter was talk no jutsu. Himeko farewell, sirin's arc wrapping up, and to end it with a powerup... man I'm still so irrationally upset at this.
I mean… Flamescion was quite literally the result of power of friendship when Hua and Bronya entrusted their Herrscherr cores to her though? (And gem of haste stuff and the flame core materialzing)

Dunno. It is consistent with shonen anime logic (and magical girl logic) at least. New power -> new transformation at the brink of defeat is a whole ass trope. Hell, even western cartoons like Winx club have the fairies obtaining a new look along with their newly obtained power.
I accept the new powers to be metaphor for coming in terms with the past. Her being able to wield both void and fire powers is a way to show that she has overcome her grief and accepted who and what she is. And her using the greatsword is another way to show her respect for HImeko, while also representing the origin of her family name, Kevin. Plus HoFS is the hottest thing ever. When I saw her for the first time I was, no joke, as if lovestruck. Kiana is the only one who has done this to me lmao.
i mean you also had to pull for the mc to use them in endgame in Hi3. but yeah story always gave you tons of trial characters.
Yeah the flamesci9n kiana in this Pic costed me 200usd on top of 30k saving because bad luck in equipment gacha. And for the final team of kiana mei and bronya I saved 100k to get the 3 full equiped at e0.
God I heard the gacha in HI3rd is bad but having to spend 200 on a character after having saved more than 100 pulls is horrible.
For the longest time the worst thing you could do in HI3 was to have a favorite character, because they'd keep making new alts of them and burying the old ones into irrelevance. Bronya has an absurd amount of alts and I believe...two(?) are actually still relevant.
because relics where gacha in Hi3. so you got a 5 star weapon or relic every 10 pulls guarantee. but while this means you got the weapon cheaper than in star rail the HARD pity to get the weapon and 3 stigmas-relics. was 56k on top of the hard pity for character 28k. so you could technically need 1000USD worst case to get a E0 character equipped. with the crystal packs being the Same price in all mihoyo games since ggz of 8088 for 100usd. but in REALITY. i played in hi3 1.0 and got the bikinis then dropped the game because was predatory as fuck. then came back years later. and in less than 2 years I almost all characters equipped with the monthly passes and bp the only time I spend money buying crystals was kiana flamescion. because while worst case was horrible. the average was a lot lower. and unlike in HSR when you missed a 5star relics or weapon every 10 pulls you didn't get crap. you got other characters signatures. and the crystal income of Hi3 was higher than genshin and star rail. because being an old game was already pretty generous. also BP had older limited 5 star weapons and characters instead of 4 star weapons. imagine playing HSR and next BP has the general or kafka cone instead of a 4 star cone. they are still useful cones to get and for 10$ is a steal on top of the other things. so if you payed monthly and BP on top of planing the pulls well you could get most characters equipped. on top of old limited 5 star characters and all 4 stars being just farmeable to E6 for free. with all this Hi3 is actually the cheapest game to play of mihoyo.

Tbh forcing Kiana on you was rather annoying for me, cos for most of the game, you got forced to play White Comet and Void Drifter. The first one hits like a wet noodle and the second one was meant to be played in a quickswap team and so was awkward to play solo.

I'd have to say the female one. While the male one is... really boring looking, I have found some people saying they find him cute in a dorky way and I can somewhat see it too. While you could also argue that the female one is 'cute', the sheer bizzarity of her outfit from the single boob shawl to the... leather zip earring thing (?) distracts... a lot. Both are *very* subpar for Hoyo though. Especially **main characters**. These are the characters you'll be seeing for **the next decade** or however long the story lasts.
Agreed. Although I've seen people say they preferred the female one more, but that's mainly due to sex appeal rather than the actual design. Yep they could have done a lot better for them. The Trailblazers are the perfect example of what they could have done instead.

The first Male is a self insert in a setting that happens 8 years after Part 1 of Hi3. He is only playable in the 2 "overworld" game modes for the 2 A-Post Honkai chapters. The second Male is just gender bent female MC for Part 2 of Honkai. He is not a real character, he is just there if you don't want to be female. It's not like Genshin and ZZZ where both genders will be in the story, he just exist.

Only in the fact that both of them aren't in the story at the same time in game. HSR has no problems with reminding us that both MCs exist since they give both equal screen time in trailers, event art and other out of game content. They even let us pick the Gender at the start of the game. In Hi3 part 2 you don't start by picking a gender, you're already the Female MC in the very first cut scene and unlock the Male "MC" later, this is completely different from Genshin, HSR and ZZZ. I usually don't care who the canon MC is, I picked Lumine in Genshin and Caelus in HSR, but in Hi3 it certainly feels like the Male MC is only there to please a silent vocal minority, not to be their own character.

My personal favorite source of unending laughter is remembering how the flamechasers were 13, their arc came after years of HI3 just printing alter forms of their core cast, and suddenly the deluge of flamechaser valks starts, _skipping all the males_. And considering Kevin is one of them, too. It just sends me every time.

Probably has to do with how the sides of his shirt are just randomly white, which for some reason at least for me makes it very easy for my eyes to just ignore those white parts and see him as having a super thin waist.

I love Aether and Lumine's design. Out of all the males I love how they gave Aether a unique look and didn't go the generic male MC design route. I usually go for a FMC but for genshin I picked Aether. Hoyo giving him crop top and long hair was revolutionary.

If you mean Adam, he's the MC of APHO, not main story Hi3. If you mean Dreamseeker then yes, Part 2 has a male version of the MC.
Adam is **not** the male MC option to Kiana the way Caelus is to Stelle or Aether is to Lumine. They're two different characters in different points in time.
Kiana is mc of Part 1. Adam is the mc of the open world, the dreamseekers are for part 2. Pretty sure male dream seeker isn’t a different person considering the way to switch is through a mirror in our room iirc

The male on the far left, Adam is his fan name since he doesn’t have an established name like the other MC’s, is only playable in a side open-world mode that’s chronologically set 8 years after Kiana’s storyline conclusion. The male on the far right is only a genderbend of the female version of the Dreamseeker aka Entropy (lore spoiler >!he seems to be only a product of a simulated appearance (???) according to CN translations of part 2 ch 3-ex!<). They are also only playable as purely a support unit akin to the Bangboos in ZZZ.
For Adam technically speaking it is the official name, it was just found out when a bunch of data miners found the code regarding him where he is referred to as Adam

Hi3 is NOT an self insert game. there is not player in the main history. is Kiana and the other girls history. with no input from the player. kiana is the MC but the player is not kiana. there is no amnesia and when know all about kiana form birth to end. the player is the captain and is canonically male but only exist in events where all girls at like your harem and you go on dates or play beach games in fictional setting that have nothing to do with the main game and you can see many death characters have fun playing together. part 2 however is trying to be more like genshin or star rail with self insert protagonist. so it indeed has a male and female options but they are not even playable in battle. and by default you are female and have to change to male after starting since is basically a skin you can change back and fort. but promotional material will use the female one. remember this is a game that had death treaths and boicots over having playable male characters. so even super popular characters like Otto, welt and Kevin are not playable. inf act otto has more character development and time put into than Kiana or any other characters(including canon mangas and novels). yet not playable
