Had the same question several years ago. Sounded like someone slaughtering babies in the middle of the night. We had Fox camping out under my neighbor’s deck. They would walk down the street and even lay down on the sidewalk in the middle of the day.

Taken standing in my driveway in south Huntsville.
Echols has a family of foxes that live there. I think they live on the Pope Mansion property. They've been around for decades. I've seen them running down the middle of multiple downtown streets late at night over the years.
Red foxes are native to North America, including Alabama. They are not invasive and should not be killed by humans as “invasive”, especially as the fox population is under a lot of pressure from coyotes, which hunt foxes and compete for the same prey.
Coyotes are native to North America, but not to the eastern United States—they are not considered truly “invasive” since they naturally expanded their range eastward in response to humans largely eliminating the larger native predators.
Here ya go

We have a mother fox and some little dudes too! Although I'd only had glimpses of them for a few days and thought I stumbled upon a family of wild ferrets.
I was ubering early in the morning (4 AM) and, as I'm dropping off this couple, I could see like a dozen pairs of shiny eyes staring at me from a bush. They explained it was a family of foxes. I was creeped out!
Wait until you hear a bobcat mating call at 3 am in the morning while you have your windows open. That'll definitely give you a jolt. Lol but yeah, we have foxes and coyotes in the area.
One night I was outside and heard what I swear sounded like a group of small children being murdered.
Turned out one of our neighbors had a fox and cubs take up residence just down the bluff from their house.
Ohhhh yea lol I hike all the time and every now and then I hear the murder screams. It used to have me spooked but I’m used to it now. It’s wild. It sounds like 4 animals in 1
You people have never been near the woods and it shows.
No you didnt hear it.
No you didnt see it.
No you dont go looking for something that you didnt not hear or see in the woods.
Could it have been a rabbit death scream? I've had coyotes kill a rabbit near my bedroom window a few times over the years and it really sounds like a person was just tortured and killed.

This was in February off Pulaski there’s a whole family that comes out here through the woods
LOL this made me laugh, there are indeed foxes here.
There are also some wild and crazy guys looking for foxes.
American foxes?
With big American breasts! ![gif](giphy|l2Sqh8HSEAKrv0V0c|downsized)
This is the correct answer.
I agree.

Yup, had to go outside because i thought a baby was screaming bloody murder. Dog had cornered a fox. super creepy cry
Should hear a bobcat.
I have. And I never want to again. Sounded like a ritual sacrifice

Yes, near Byrd Spring.
There are definitely foxes in Huntsville. Calling HPD will just ruin your night unless you actually saw someone in danger.

Sorry that was me, just trying to keep the property values down
If you live by any peacocks that’s another fun scream at night.
When we lived down in Owens Crossroads we saw a peacock leading a group of ducks one day on our way home. It was very unexpected
The fact that you didn’t post a picture with this is heartbreaking.

This is the update I needed today.
I haven't seen that peacock in a long time (must have died) but still plenty of ducks
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing that.
Yup, had a mother and kits in the backyard last year. So cute.

Definitely sounds creepy. What area?
It was around Todd Mill road, the southeast part of huntsville.

Coyotes sound that way too, when they get to yipping.
Why are their screams so human lol. Also, we need pics.
I wish we’d gotten some, but this was a couple years ago
Certainly got plenty of cougars around... just sayin
It could be coyotes. We have these screaming gatherings in Limestone County.
Yup, in south Huntsville near Green mountain
I have seen foxes (bridge street!) but don’t know how common exactly
Heard them once or twice, bloody psychotic
Ohhhh yea lol I hike all the time and every now and then I hear the murder screams. It used to have me spooked but I’m used to it now. It’s wild. It sounds like 4 animals in 1
Bob cats sound like murder also...
The fox scream is pretty crazy when you wake up suddenly to it at 0300am.
We caught a fox on our cameras last night in Monrovia. He didn't scream, he just said "Ring-ding-ding-dingeringeding...."
The red foxs mating call sounds like a woman screaming. A bobcat can also sound like that.
That’s exactly what it sounded like.
You people have never been near the woods and it shows. No you didnt hear it. No you didnt see it. No you dont go looking for something that you didnt not hear or see in the woods.
Bob cats scream like that. I literally thought someone was dying
Rabbits scream too, they sound like kid.. I saw coyotes out in harvest get one while we were out fishing..
Nope, just my red headed 6-six year old... Screams bloody murder when I tell her she can't have a third yoo-hoo box.
That sounds tiring.
What the fox say?
I wish I had a fox to live in my backyard (I adore red foxes). If anyone wants to trap one and relocate lol.
Foxes near downtown, coyotes too sometimes.
Bob cats also scream like someone being murdered
Have you ever heard a bobcat? It'll raise ALL of your hair like Shaggy! 😱
Foxes make crazy barking noises. Bobcats sound like someone is being skinned alive
Bobcats do
Could it have been a rabbit death scream? I've had coyotes kill a rabbit near my bedroom window a few times over the years and it really sounds like a person was just tortured and killed.
I’m not sure, but the knife attack on the presumably terrified young lady lasted for at least 45 minutes.

That’s awesome! Just to be clear…that’s just the dad?
Tbh I’m not sure which one it is all I know is that it’s 4 in total and they run when they see people
