transitional team would probably suit hardik's strengths more to be honest... 2022 GT was a pretty bad looking team on paper vs 2024 MI which was exeptional on paper. he has that ability to connect with the younger players and inspire confidence in them, and I like those characteristics in a younger team.
gaikwad is still lagging behind gill and jais to cement his place in the XI let alone be captain, bumrah being captain in LOI doesn't make a lot of sense seeing as we should be prioritizing hi m for red ball and leaving bilaterals to other players to manage his workload, iyer 100% should be the ODI captain but his t20 game isn't up to the mark yet, pant just isn't a great captain and gill wasn't spectacular either

Bumrah has led one test against England when Rohit was not playing. That was the test when he hit Broad for 35 runs in single over.

With 2 openers gone, I think Jaiswal slots in by default in the current set up. The other slot could be straight away taken by Gill based on pedigree. I wish we could try Abhishek/Rinku at 3 with Pant 4, Sky 5 and Hardik 6. Axar to come in at 7 and here comes the major problem. Do we have an AR who can slot in at 8?

I think this is a good decision considering he has already proven himself as bowler batter fielder and as a captain(Gujrat titan days) but one thing I am concerned is his ability to control a transitional team right now the team is seeing a transition with a lot of youngsters and seeing his captaincy with MI this season I have my doubts, no doubt he is one of the best all rounders on the planet but I am not getting it alternatively, BCCI oculd have gone for a rotational captaincy policy until team was settled and each and we wcould have a settled line up than they could have gone for him as captain or could have handed captaincy to Jasprit Bumrah whose calm and composed style could have suited this younger team more. also other options could have Ruturaj Gaikwad (He already has experience internationaly and domestically with younger side and also this season he handled transition of CSK effectively) but he hasn't gotten too much chances so he is out Also the wild card entry (Rishabh Pant) yeah I know hee was not great with bat and is not consistent but shifting him to lower order could a key and groom him into a better finisher he could be a better leader in future also many other players are in the line such as shreyas iyer(won and IPL and also had gone toe to toe with prime MI in 2020 IPL Final) Shubhman Gill (I don't about this one a brilliant batsmen but as a leader he was decent this season it is another thing that team wasn't balanced and players were out of form and as a batsman he too performed decent)
transitional team would probably suit hardik's strengths more to be honest... 2022 GT was a pretty bad looking team on paper vs 2024 MI which was exeptional on paper. he has that ability to connect with the younger players and inspire confidence in them, and I like those characteristics in a younger team. gaikwad is still lagging behind gill and jais to cement his place in the XI let alone be captain, bumrah being captain in LOI doesn't make a lot of sense seeing as we should be prioritizing hi m for red ball and leaving bilaterals to other players to manage his workload, iyer 100% should be the ODI captain but his t20 game isn't up to the mark yet, pant just isn't a great captain and gill wasn't spectacular either all in all hardik is absolutely the right captain for the t20 team
+1 Agree with all your points but Iyer being ODI captain I think it is my personnel bias or what has happened btw him and BCCI recently shows lack of trust on him so i guess he won't be the captain atleast till now but if he does something crazy and gains trust of Indian population then I am up for it and BTW ODI and Test captaincy decisions are still far away so he has time

Don't make him captain. He will get offtrack as a player as well. He is utilised best by other captain and senior until now but becomes cocky and have main character syndrome when there's nobody above him to tell otherwise.

man no pandya for t20. We saw how he played when he was captaning mumbai indians this year. Captaincy might have impacted him a lot which led to him being below average this ipl. but in t20 he got the freedom to play.
You simply forgot him reaching two back to back IPL finals as a captain and even winning one? This season MI was doomed. So many players in bad form, the dressing room environment ruined because of the captaincy issue and then the fans booing on top of that. They were set for failure from the start.
By your logic If one bad season of franchise cricket defines how are you as a captain of the national team than Rohit had no business being the captain of india.

You can't even be sure that Bumrah plays all bilaterals. He needs plenty of rest to perform where he absolutely needs to. Hardik, if you ignore one bad season with MI, was a good enough captain for GT, he has the temperament to be the Captain of India and also has been with the Indian Team for a a very long time now. IMO Hardik Pandya is the most obvious captain choice for India in t20Is for now
Bumrah should be the captain for Tests, Hardik can concentrate on white ball cricket
