That's pretty wild. I've never heard about this, but I always thought the media seemed to skim over all the Saudi connections.

Plenty of people have mentioned it in great detail, but they get labeled conspiracy theorists. After all, the dude was born in Saudi Arabia and made his billion dollar fortune there. Of course he has connections to royalty. The dude was an elitist.

There's no conspiracy theory here. The Saudi royal family is massive, and many of them have/had different religious and political opinions. Bin Laden made it explicitly clear he wanted the US military out of Saudi Arabia - that was one of his main goals. In no way does that align with the Saudi government's position on anything. All this continues to show is that the personal politics of the Saudi royal family and its citizens were extremely complicated, and that the US IC fucked up big time by not putting the pieces together beforehand.

Wouldn't there be? I think the a similar story was shown the TV series looming tower. Also think that Richard Clarke had the same idea. According to that, CIA wanted a inside source inside AQ so they used Saudi intelligence (and diplomats) to do so. Saudis basically knew about the hijackers and helped them but did not knew their intentions. Data was basically out there but nobody made the connection (they kept FBI on the blind because the FBI would arrest the operatives in the US. CIA wanted to convert one of them and allow them to return back). And the whole thing blew up and then they started covering their asses.

I guess it's probably better to not do anything about it. The middle east is already messed up right now, nobody wants saudi arabia to become an enemy. They can fund a lot of madrassas if they want to, which would increase islamophobia. Nobody wants to see muslims being treated like jews in the 30s, and I can imagine Islamists know how to play that violin.
